Griff Rhys Jones Is A Joke That’s Not Funny, Let’s Make Sure He Fucking Knows It

Fitzroy_Square_London

Fitzroy Square, that Griff Rhys Jones says was a slum until he moved in.

This rich often conceal their arrogance and sense of entitlement under a cloak of humility or even fake concern for the normal people whose work and money funds their lavish existence.  But not Griff Rhys fucking Jones whose recent comments about the proposed mansion tax reveal the ugly face of greed and privilege.

Most people under 35 probably don’t have a clue who he is.  He rose to fame as the one who wasn’t funny on the BBC’s satirical Not The Nine O’Clock News Show in the 1980s before going on to become comedian Mel Smith’s sidekick in a series of boring television shows.  Now he seems to have one of the weird deals that vaguely famous smug twats get with the BBC where all they have to do is go on holiday and the station will send along a licence-payer funded camera crew and pay them vast sums of our money for doing fuck all.

Despite this gilded existence he never stops whining.  In his latest outburst he whinges that he will move abroad if any tax is introduced on his luxury central London home that he says was a slum when he moved in 15 years ago.  They really think this way.  If they move into a mansion that could do with a lick of paint then they think then they are hard done by, like a poor person.  Never mind that he also owns a huge property in Suffolk that he never stops complaining about either.

Of course what he’s really pissed off about is that he’s made millions out of  London’s soaring house prices and now might have to pay a meagre tax on his windfall.  The same housing boom that has made much of the capital unaffordable for normal people who unlike Griff actually have to work for a living.  He just expects money to keep falling from the sky.  This is the kind of swaggering audacity that has seen the rich dragged from their beds and murdered in more enlightened periods of history.

If Gryff Rhy Jones had been born on a council estate he’d probably be a junior manager at some Wonga branch now, taking out his bitterness on the staff he considers beneath him because they earn 50p less an hour than he does.  That’s if he managed to climb that high.  He’s quite likely to have ended up sitting in Wetherspoons all day boring people shitless with his embarrassing attempts at being funny and trying to blag a pint off anyone unlucky enough to sit down next to him.

But instead he went to public school and then Cambridge ensuring that even someone of his mediocre talent could rise through the media elite to become a very rich man.  Its about who you know and how much money you’ve got, not what you know in his world.  It’s certainly not about what you do, because Griff Rhys Jones hasn’t actually done very much at all.  Yet he still gets to lecture us from the pages of The Daily Telegraph where he says he says he’s not going to ‘squeal’ just because that’s what people want from the rich.

It’s time to make an example of someone.  If Griff Rhys Jones doesn’t like it here then he should fuck off as quickly and quietly as possible.  Or better still be deported.  Until he goes he should be reminded every single day what people think of over-privileged self-entitled parasites like him.  We don’t want you Griff.  And neither does anyone else.

The newly energised Class War have called a demo in Fitrovia Square on  Saturday November 22nd from noon where they will be calling on Griff Rhys Jones to fuck off.

In the meantime tomorrow’s Poor Doors demo outside 1 Commercial Street, London E1 has a bonfire night theme.  Others are planning fun and games in central London.  Help this year’s Guy Fawkes Night go with a bang and get out on the streets.

  1. My comment to Gryff Rhys Jones is “Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out mate.” Good riddance, let’s hope he goes soon, one less rich arsehole stealing my oxygen. Pity we can’t make it permanent.

  2. He’s a total muppet and that’s putting it mildly. One of the establishment who had all the help in the word to make it. But who, when asked to fork out a bit more, becomes all uppity. A waste of space like most of them are.

  3. “The newly energised Class War have called a demo in Fitrovia Square on Saturday November 22nd from noon where they will be calling on Griff Rhys Jones to fuck off.”

If that’s not the best reason for a demo I don’t know what is. We should hold more “fuck off” demos.

  4. I was interested to read in the Guardian that he paid nearly one and a half million quid to buy the place – which was converted from a suite of offices, apparently. Some “slum”! To hear him speak, he picked it up for 4 figures at a fire sale… um, not exactly.

But then, taxing the rich was never about revenue; it was always about ensuring that this head of privilege-fed entitlement never built up in the first place. About creating a society where Billy Butlin shovelled money at charities, saying “it’s millions of pounds for them; it’s millions of sixpences for me”. And frankly, it probably created a more innovative, creative economy; look at how innovation in the UK has all but vanished in the post-Thatcher years, compared with the UK’s foremost position in developing the computer industry during the preceding 30 years.

Taxing the rich makes for a fairer society AND a fleeter economy. And the only counterargument to that is a dog in a money manger.

  8. Mansion tax quit threat: Bonnie Greer suggests Griff Rhys Jones donates Fitzrovia property

    Camden New Journal
Published: 3 November, 2014 By RICHARD OSLEY

BONNIE Greer has lashed out at her neighbour, the comedian Griff Rhys Jones, over his claim that he would “probably go and live abroad” if Labour’s plans for a mansion tax became reality.

She sent a series of angry tweets, suggesting that his property in Fitzroy Square could be used for the homeless, students or a local doctor’s surgery.

“The Infrastructure Bill opens up public land to be sold off to private companies. 38 Degrees members have stopped the sale of our publicly owned forests once before – now, we have to do the same again. Our forests our too precious to lose. “

  11. “He also owns a huge property in Wales”. Sorry to nit pick, Johnny, but don’t you mean Suffolk? (I clicked on the link, but there’s no mention of Wales. Only Suffolk.) I guess that’s how he came to be mates with the late, lamented John Peel, another Suffolk resident. And Peelie usually had such impeccable taste, too…

    • yes I meant Suffolk, thanks for spotting it

    • He also has, or did have a farm in Pembrokeshire that he renovated and let out as holiday accommodation. It was featured in a series of programmes made by BBC Cymru Wales. It’s in a very picturesque area called Preseli, and probably worth a huge amount of money as it’s not uncommon for mere cottages in that part (and I mean the two up, two down variety) to go for sums of 250,000 pounds. Time was when holiday cottages in Wales got burned down as a protest at the lack of affordable housing for locals priced out by the wealthy.

Sadly the BBC in Wales is even more sycophantic than the BBC in England, so celebs with even the most tenuous connection with Wales get star treatment. They positively wet themselves and inspire nausea in me when it comes to the Welsh Pretender (Charles Windsor)

    • Those are not even jobs they’re talking about! That article is a load of cobblers!

What world do these tits live in? How many more medical specialists do they need? It says ‘Funding will be used to set up training for new employment specialists and clinical teams’ What a bunch of pompous shite!

      • MP’S are now voting on clause 4 of the modern slavery bill that makes it an offence to exploit labour
The regulation is already contained within the Human Rights Act, the UK parliament has never upheld Human Rights Legislation so why the interst in this all of a sudden?
Gangmaster legislation should be applied directly to the DWP who utilise paid bully boys to enforce free labour, slave trade………….
With regards to the ventriloquists dummy, Rhys Jones, slam the door behind you, you toffee nosed cunt. You will not be missed, but get up the noses of your new neighbours……………….

        another Andrew Mitchell of showbusiness…………..

        • HUMAN Trafficking within the UK, from the DWP/JCP to WORKFARE PROVIDER to PLACE OF LABOUR. Trafficking involves the transportation of persons in the UK in order to exploit them by the use of force, violence, deception, intimidation, coercion or abuse of their vulnerability. The form of exploitation includes sexual and bonded labour exploitation and servitude. Those who are trafficked have little choice in what happens to them and usually suffer abuse due to the threats and use of violence against them and/or their family, or through debt bondage.

        • Landless Peasant

          The UN’s International Labour Organisation (ILO) defines Slavery thus;

“work or service which is exacted from any person under the threat of a penalty and for which the person has not offered himself or herself voluntarily”.

          Sound familiar?

          • Yep LP. Workfare, Mandatory Work Activity and Community Work Program, all fall under that ruling. They’re all slavery. But this corrupt bastard government employ lawyers to try to get round all HR legislation by any means necessary.

    • ………..another failure before it starts, a programme developed by a group of professionals who wish to safeguard their own positions by inventing another regime that the gullible have agreed…………

“more than half of people with mental problems wish to get into work with some support”

Where do they dig up all this claptrap?, they invent it to justify their own ends.

It reminds me of the doctrine of BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL CLAPTRAP that the DWP sought to introduce to examine disability and work. It is based on the premise that disability is not physical but only exists in the mind, the preferred system used by disability denial private health insurers…………

The DWP and the rest of the peripheral work bullshit experts are always slow to divulge actual figures of success because they don’t exist, just the trickle of increased deaths that they seek to hide………..

Never mind baulking at the truly heinous and vile thoughts of Freud paying two quid an hour, these twats would try to pay the people with mental problems, lollipops and marbles for an eighty hour week……….

  12. Granted Griff Rhys Jones shouldn’t moan, bearing in mind his wealth. But this mansion tax is a massive cop out by Labour. Instead of trying to fairly tax corporations, he is going for the low hanging fruit. I have no sympathy with those in 2 million pound mansions, but many have that value due to rises in property prices for years and some owners are retired and don’t have tons of cash or much cash at all. Some do, some don’t. That is why Labour’s policy is pathetic. It ignores the huge wealth and low taxes of the corporations. Their level of tax has been steadily falling since the 1980s with the help of all governments since that time, including Brown who further cut the tax ‘burden’ on mega-corporations. So I think this mansion tax policy needs to be put in context.

    • My heart bleeds.

    • Landless Peasant

Yes it’s Miliband’s way of trying to look like a proper Socialist without really doing anything, but at least it’s a payback of kinds for the Bedroom Tax.

      • Weird, I thought Miliband was doing all he could to try and avoid looking anything at all like a real Socialist. Idiot – had he embraced Red Ed and run with it Labour’d probably be 25 points up by now…

    • Do corporations get rich themselves, or do they simply funnel money into the pockets of their directors and large shareholders, and out of everyone else’s pockets – workers and customers alike?

I mean, absolutely we should do something about corporations evading tax. But it seems to me that a more root and branch consideration of what it is corporations do and how they can be compelled to do something else might be needed. For example, instituting mandatory earnings ratios enforced by the tax system (where, for example, you go up a tax band for every 10:1 your wages are above the lowest paid worker in the company), reviving profit-related pay schemes, revising the fiduciary duty of directors so that they’re no longer compelled to put the shareholders’ voracity first and foremost, and granting a company’s workforce the same voting rights as shareholders enjoy, regardless of whether they own shares. As well as reintroducing the basic workers’ rights eroded by successive neoliberal governments.

This, by the way, is all pretty centrist stuff. Nothing terribly radical in there. It’s a measure of how right wing the debate has become that you just know that any politician suggesting these things would be painted as someone simultaneously more revolutionary than Bakunin and more authoritarian than Pol Pot.

  13. Reblogged this on Jay's Journal and commented:
Rhys Jones is one of those idiots who because they are rich, are also above everyone else. Sorry puppet, but you are neither wanted here or needed here. Your “money” doesn’t do anything for the economy so you should be taxed for your “mansion” – if you don’t like it, then go abroad and stay there – you won’t be missed.

  14. Its a bit harsh saying he wasnt funny as generally he played the straight man.
O.k., when he wasnt the strait man he wasnt much mirth either, but it needed pointing out.

  15. Griff Rhys Jones is Roy Chubby Brown’s alter ego.

  19. So many DWP press Releases over the past 2 days. At least 20. Rush rush !! They read like they were rushed about 5 minutes of non English gabble !!

  20. Back to the topic – What craps on TV tonight !!

  21. This poor excuse of a human made a career out of comic relief – he seems to think the less well off are purely there for his own advancement – well hopefully no more – Griff, the truth of the kind of person you are and who you really care about is plain for all to see – you are not welcome, TV’s will be turned off en masse at the sight and sound of you so bye bye boyo time for you to go and take your dirty money with you, I’d rather starve than take a penny from you, I’ve got pride just the like the true Welsh have and you have nothing that could possibly interest me if it makes me one iota like yourself.

  22. Griff Rhys Jones was more than a mediocre comedian.
Not the Nine O’Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones were both very good shows. What he says about leaving the country does not alter the fact and to say that he is a rubbish comedian is unfair and unworthy.

On the other hand his former success does not exonerate him from being a first class arse with third class opinions.

This is how it goes Griff. People in council houses with a single spare room are given an option; cough up the cash or fuck off to a smaller gaff.

Therefore it is only fair that a person owning (not necessarily even living) in a mansion, presumably with many unoccupied bedrooms should be given the same option. Pay up or fuck off.

    Not nice is it Griff?
Not nice for the poor bastards that were so distressed they took their own lives. They didn’t have the funds to bugger off somewhere nice like you.
They didn’t have the funds to bugger anywhere.

  25. Reblogged this on Beastrabban’s Weblog and commented:
I actually like Griff Rhys Jones, and do find him funny. But The Void’s point remains. He has now joined the ranks of overpaid and overprivileged celebs, who at the merest hint that the government will increased tax go into paroxysms of fury. Others of the same ilk, who’ve threatened to leave the country include Phil Collins and Michael Caine, now returned, but still moaning about having to work at his age to support ‘layabouts’.

Jones is also another example of the way hot, iconoclastic satirists can become the very people they lampooned and ridiculed. One of the sketches on ‘Alas Smith and Jones’ showed Jones standing in front of a mansion, speaking to the camera. ‘So, do the BBC pay their reporters too much?’, asked Jones’ character rhetorically. ‘This is (so-and-so), standing it front of his front door’. And the answer to the question is obviously yes.

  26. I’ve always thought (in fact l know). l know he’s a pompous bastard; if taxes do go up, and that fucker wants to go. Let the patriotic English man leave(!) Only suits these narcissistic fucks to be sooooo, British when it suits them.
I doubt if this man (if l can call him that) would give you the steam of his piss.

terrible, cutting to the marrow to feed the rich with lucrative investments to also ensures large voter groups for neoliberalism…

  27. Even as the sardonic straight man Griff Rhys Jones was never funny, the UK alternative comedy from the Thatcher era was overrated crap that was as safe as houses or should that be mansions.

  28. “He rose to fame as the one who wasn’t funny on the BBC’s satirical Not The Nine O’Clock News Show in the 1980s before going on to become comedian Mel Smith’s sidekick in a series of boring television shows. Honestly, you flatter him!! ;o)

  29. Respect and thanks for the blog. Griff Rhys never was funny; a sideman for Mel Smith, a man who whatever his politics were, was funny and had passion. The point of this whinging idiot is lost on me. Perhaps this is what the Telegraph is doing to try and connect to it’s slightly less sclerotic readers. Good luck.

  30. at last i can see a good reason to vote labour.

  31. “The DWP won’t tell us exactly where it sends people on placements for fear of protests”

    Indefensible defence.

    by Anoosh Chakelian Published 4 November, 2014 – 13:52

Department for Work and Pensions’ extraordinary defence of its actions at a tribunal.

The Guardian’s report of an outrageous story, in which a man who was let go at the end of a temporary job was ordered by the department to work for the same firm for six months unpaid, yesterday included details of DWP’s actions at a tribunal where it is battling the information commissioner and court judgments ordering it to reveal where it is sending potentially thousands of people to work without pay.

Its defence at the tribunal was essentially, “if people knew what we were doing then they would protest”:

The DWP is basically acknowledging its approach of “forced employment” regarding jobseekers is so bad it’s worth protesting against, which suggests its schemes such as the Community Work Placement are being implemented for the wrong reasons.

A scandalous picture of suffering, trauma and destitution is painted by a former Work Programme adviser who was tasked with getting claimants off the employment and support allowance (ESA) sickness benefit.

Speaking to the press for the first time since she quit the job last year, Anna Shaw (not her real name) says: “Some of my clients were homeless, and very many of them had had their money stopped and were literally starving and extremely stressed. Many had extreme mental health conditions, including paranoid schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar disorder and autism. One guy [diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and homeless] came to see me for the first appointment and mentioned that he had not eaten for five days. I offered him my lunch, thinking he would refuse it out of pride, and he fell upon it like a wild animal. I’ve not seen a human being eat like that before.”

    • “CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER” (DEFINITION)

…………………….it fits the DWP and the cronies who enforce it’s policies, like a glove…………………………….

The common law test to impose criminal responsibility on a company only arises where a person’s gross negligence has led to another person’s death and (under the “identification doctrine”) that person is a “controlling mind”, whose actions and intentions can be imputed to the company (that is, a person in control of the company’s affairs to a sufficient degree that the company can fairly be said to think and act through him). This is tested by reference to the detailed work patterns of the manager, and the job title or description given to that person is irrelevant, but there is often no single person who acts as a “controlling mind”, particularly in large companies, and many issues of health and safety are delegated to junior managers who are not “controlling minds”

It has said the debate should also look at whether some current Westminster powers – for instance on the delivery of some benefits – could go straight to local government.

The wrecking process to undermine the Scottish Parliament and universal social security.

…………….and yet another night passes when countless thousands take to the streets and the governments favourite tools of misinformation, the BBC and SKY, tow the party line.

If you want to know the truth, go beyond the 6 jewish run media corporations that control all news and go on the internet, the final vestige of what’s really happening in the world today……………..

Six major corporations control everything we are told, they are the forefront of corporate greed, the mind control of the masses.

Last nights MILLION MASK MARCH, signaled to governments across the globe, that the people are fed up with being pissed upon, whilst the media report that it is “RAINING”……………………

Gloves are now coming off as the fight for democracy states a challenge to the might of corporate rule.

Behind the scenes, governments will be in shock and awe at the swathes of political unrest.
Instead of listening to the people they will be drawing up plans to quell the uprising by using police brutality, increasing weaponry and deploying the armed forces.

  41. In his rush to dismantle the welfare state IDS missed the trick of federal welfare where the responsibly is devolved to local councils to dispense the monies to their preferred clients and be squandered to incompetence and corruption.

A good policy in principle but the UK does not have the honourable local political class to action at a local level.

    • I wrote a poem called ‘murder on the dance floor’,my usual jokey style but I can’t recall it now, I know it was about the blair government and who would replace him and his ministers. The school disco indeed.

    • Hope they get wiped out in Scotland nothing but champions of corruption. All Jim Murphy has to offer the people of Scotland is an ideology of self destructive narcissism.

  46. DWP Press Release – 6 November 2014

Overpayment error in the benefit system falls by £100 million

Official and claimant error on benefit overpayments has fallen to the lowest ever – 1.3% of welfare expenditure – down £100m last year.

The government expects the rate to drop even more with the introduction of Real Time Information (RTI), introduced in August.

This means benefit claims can now be cross-checked against earnings and pension income from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) immediately after each payment they make. Previously this data was submitted annually.

The statistics out today also show Jobseeker’s Allowance fraud and error overpayments dropped to their lowest recorded level, having fallen by £40 million in the last year.

Total fraud and error in the benefits system stands at £3.4 billion or 2.1% of overall welfare expenditure. Total overpayments due to claimant and official error fell from £2.3 billion (2012/13) to £2.2 billion (2013/14).

Work and Pensions Minister Mark Harper said:

“Too much money has been needlessly wasted in the past on fraud and error, so it’s good news that we’ve brought down claim errors to a record low. Now thanks to our new IT advances, we will be able to track both fraud and error in record time.

“But there’s more to do. We will use everything in our power to stop people who cheat the system stealing money from hardworking taxpayers, as part of our long-term economic plan to make a fairer welfare system.”

The data for 2013/14 revealed that:
•benefit fraud is at £1.2 billion or 0.7% of welfare expenditure
•claimant error overpayments have fallen to 0.9% or £1.5 billion of spending
•official error overpayments have dropped to their lowest rate of 0.4% of benefit expenditure or £0.7 billion

In 2013/14, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recovered nearly £1 billion that had been overpaid due to benefit fraud and error across Great Britain, an increase of 30% over the last 3 years.

Ministers launched a major advertising campaign last month targeted at nearly 50 towns and cities across the country to bring down fraud and error. A range of television and radio adverts, posters, letters and Facebook ads are being used in each region to urge claimants to report changes in their circumstances or risk a jail sentence.

New rules were also announced this year to further deter claimants from committing benefit fraud and make sure stolen money is returned including:
•introducing tough new rules so that 40% of individuals’ benefits can be taken to repay stolen cash – on top of any fine or custodial sentence handed out by the courts
•increasing penalties that someone committing fraud can receive from £2,000 to £5,000, without taking them to court
•using bailiffs to confiscate high-value possessions from convicted benefit fraudsters
•continuing to roll out Universal Credit to more sites, which is expected to reduce fraud by £1 billion in 5 years when it is fully in place across the country
•extending the loss of benefit for offences which result in a conviction of 13 weeks for a first offence, then 26 weeks for a second offence and 3 years for a third offence
•issuing a new £50 civil penalty for claimants who negligently give incorrect information on their claim or fail to report a change in circumstances which results in an overpayment

Further analysis of individual benefits reveals fraud and error for:
•Jobseeker’s Allowance fell to its lowest ever level – from 4.1% (£210 million) in 2012/13 to 3.9% (£170 million) of expenditure in 2013/14 – with claimant error reducing and fraud falling to its lowest rate since 2006/07
•Pension Credit decreased to 5.9% (£430 million) of benefit expenditure in 2013/14, from 6.4% (£490 million) the year before – and fraud, claimant error and official error have fallen
•Employment and Support Allowance is at 3% (£310 million) – this is the first financial year fraud and error has been reported
    •Income Support is at 4.5% (£170 million)
•Housing Benefit – which is administered by local authorities – is at 6% (£1.4 million)

I like this guy. I am a relation of Rowan Atkinson whom he knows. Griff is very down to earth and sweet – much like Rowan. Leave him alone.

Why should people have to spend their hard earned money on taxes? It’s stupid. I think taxes should be fixed rate for everyone. It’s nasty to make rich people who have worked pay more taxes than bums on benefits who have 10 kids and get drunk.

Almost alltoday’s fortunate sons (and daughters) are DUMB TRUST FUND BRATS or people with dull-normal intelligence and boyish charm (Lasses:
born to privilege and/or great body) who schmooze the right folks, rapidly ascend the corporate ladder, lad by lad by virtue of their birthright/contacts/brown-nosing,then upon reaching the pinnacle of wealth and influence, slag the “little people” indiscriminately and at will.(It’s MUCH WORSE in the U.S. and not as bad, though certainly unsightly here in Canada, where I’ve always dwelt.)
This is why the “Western Euro-Zone” (U.S.U.K.,Australia,even perhaps, though not nearly as likely,Canada)face the probability of revolution by 2025,as the masses overthrow their overlords ala (but hopefully not with the same mass murderous results,.i.e.,Stalin) Soviet Russia, whose revolution reaches its 100th anniversary in Oct.2017.
