A flagship Tory council has caused outrage after sending out a Christmas card which appears to stereotype social housing tenants as feckless drinkers who will not pay their rent.
The card (pictured), sent by Hammersmith and Fulham Council, warns tenants not to over indulge at Christmas ending with a stark warning to ‘Pay Your Rent’.
Speaking to BBC London, local resident Tina Buckley said a card had even been sent out to her 81 year old mother who has been a tenant for 60 years and never been behind with her rent. Slamming the council’s campaign Ms Buckley said the cards were a: “disgusting, threatening and insulting piece of literature masquerading as a Christmas greeting”.
This is not the first time that Hammersmith and Fulham have shown utter contempt for people living in social housing. This is the council that wants to force some tenants to work unpaid or face eviction after all. Now even at Christmas there is no let up from the stream of vile propaganda aimed at those on low incomes or living in social housing.
And why the fuck shouldn’t we have a chance to over-indulge at Christmas if we want to. Hammersmith and Fulham Council want to strip every last sliver of pleasure away from the lives of those with least. Even a Christmas drink is unacceptable when there’s the Bedroom Tax to pay.
It is hard to imagine more affluent groups in society being treated this way. The tax office are not hanging round the City of London warning yuppies not to snort so much coke this Christmas that they have to dodge their taxes again. Yet if you are poor then expect council busy-bodies to be watching over you constantly in case, just for a second, you manage to grab a little bit of happiness from life.

Easily managed, small weekly service charge managed by residents could be used as a repairs fund. Keeps any work available to local tradespeople as well instead of big contractors.
The years some of us have been in our council houses they should be giving them to us, they have been paid for 10 times over already and these new privatized housing associations that have took them over have bought more new vans to run around in than they have people to put into the properties they have stolen.

there is much that could be written about current economic circumstances and the grossly disproportionate affects of it on the poor atm, the housing crisis and how to solve it in a humane social manner…but the bottom line is that the owners of properties protect their own interests by supplying a plumber, (+ the plumbing in social housing is likely to be well lagged and of a high standard), just as any homeowner would…cascading water can do a lot of damage….people who don’t pay their rent always hear about it….
I pay my rent to housing association but fucking hell when it comes to repairs you cab wait ages days and days and its fucked up mess with one contractor having to fix the fuck up by previous contractor ..
it wouldn’t be the first time everyone went on a rent strike, tenants’ (somewhere in Liverpool did) once, trouble is with this country no-one sticks together, hence it gives the gov a licence to do what they want

There is a European initiative to get a Citizens basic income discussed in the European Parliament. It needs a million signatures by January 14 in order for it to trigger a debate in the European Parliament.
I know the EU isn’t perfect, but this isn’t about the EU but about the citizens of a lot of European countries.
A Universal Basic Income makes a great deal of sense, and would blow huge holes in a couple of other things that have universal in them!

And are saving up and waiting for delayed benefits so they can use every penny of it to pay SOME of their rent. All the goods and services cancelled by working parents for their kids/families at christmas, like parties or taxis or childcare, entertainers at kids’ parties…. could mean other businesses going to the wall – and each case meaning another load of families will be put out of work and into financial not-chocolate.

I am a hard-working Member of Parliament, so poorly paid, although I am a millionaire, that I had to claim over £6,000 expenses to meet a bill to pay for electricity to keep my horses warm in their stables. This brought home to me the need to continue to bear down on welfare in order to continue following the Osborne plan to cut the deficit.
Times are hard and we are all in it together.
My suggestion was to cap child benefit at the first two children only, saving billions and discouraging spread-your-legs, working class, sluts from giving birth to baby after baby, by differnt fathers, confident in the knowledge that money from hard-working taxpayers who want to get on will be diverted to help keep this trickbabies alive.
If this was the case people like Bob Cratchit wouldn’t impregnate their wives so frequently and hard-working rich men, like Ebeneezer Scrooge, wouldn’t have to pay subsidence wages which reduce profits and curtail vital investment in the British economy: hard winters would also cull disabled and sickly tykes like Timothy “Tiny Tim” Cratchit, saving the National Health Service and Department of Work and Pensions hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on keeping such wretches alive.

I am no fan of New Labour but give our labour council credit where it is due, they have allowed us to keep 4 months bedroom tax to buy xmas presents, I think the economy in our town would have ground to a halt without it.

Problem solving skills: If you are dissatisfied, find the person or people responsible and get them to sort it out.
Tory rhetoric: We only have these problems because we inherited them from Labour. Labour are responsible for it, so why should we change anything?
Translation: If you’re dissatisfied with the state of the government, don’t blame us. We’re completely irresponsible. Just vote Labour back in and hopefully something will be done about it.
Conclusion: Both parties want me to vote Labour. I, however, remember the last Labour government and I’m not stupid. I’m also not going to bow down and do anything the ConDem regime beg me to do. Therefore, I’ll vote Green in 2015.
Trouble is there is only one Green MP at present and most likely no Green MPs after the next general election. Think about it there are only really four possible outcomes under a first-past-the-post voting system with three significant political parties:
(1) A Labour government (which would repeal the Bedroom Tax);
(2) A Tory government (which would strip housing benefit from the under 25s, limit tax credits and child benefit to the first two children, and do fuck knows what else if given half a chance);
(3) A Lab-LibDem Coalition… basically the same as (1);
(4) A Con-LibDem Coalition… basically the same as (2).
Personally I’d prefer (1) or (3) and therefore will be voting Labour in 2015 because at the very least the fucking Bedroom Tax will be made history.
Fuck Labour, set of cunts.
If not Labour then Tory it will be.

this is not new, LUMINUS ( who are run by a freak who is running a cult) have been sending out cards like that for at least ten years and they claim to be christian ! damn shame no one will take notice of us (luminus shut us down at every move) we have a ROOM full of proof about their cult, the bullying of us and much much more, they are also under a conservative council, they have ruined our lives , given me a life long debilitating illness from their stress( medically proven) and had me labelled as mental because I am trying to blow the whistle on them, they shut down my support group that i started for other tenants to try and get some back up, I am writing a book on them and everything they have done, would give it to the local paper but they sponsor them so they do not write bad stories about them, I am not mental I am qualified in three careers that I can no longer work in due to my illness, this town is desperately trying to hide something, why do people not actually see what we have got when we ask for help rather than condemning us with lies ???

A depressed blind man killed himself after he was left penniless because his benefits were slashed, an inquest heard
Desperate Tim Salter struggled to even feed himself when controversial private firm Atos ruled he was fit for work, despite his failing eyesight.
The 53-year-old, who also suffered agoraphobia, was about to be kicked out of his housing association home when he hanged himself in the hall.
A coroner ruled the Government’s decision to axe Tim’s meagre incapacity benefit contributed to his death.
And the former assistant store manager’s sister Linda Cooksey told how his fitness to work test was carried out by a physiotherapist with no experience of mental health issues or knowledge of his blindness.
The 60-year-old said his family never even knew about his money problems until after his death.
She added: “Stopping his benefits sent him over the edge. When his small savings ran out he got in trouble with his rent, and his £30 disability allowance a week just wasn’t enough.
“Tim ran out of money. He was a proud man and never let on to anybody. It’s so sad. I want everyone to know what this government is doing to vulnerable people on benefits.
“He had a certificate to say he was blind. When we got into his house there was no food, he practically starved in the last weeks.”

South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh said: “A major factor in his death was that his benefits had been greatly reduced leaving him almost destitute.”
Tim died on September 25.
An eviction letter from South Staffordshire Housing Association was found in the bin by his family.
He was registered partially-blind in 1994. His eyes were damaged when he tried to kill himself in 1989 after losing his job.
His family has written to David Cameron about his Atos treatment.
The housing association insisted help was available for those struggling to pay rent.
And the Department for Work and Pensions said Tim had the right to appeal its decision.
Verdict: Suicide.
A coroner ruled the Government’s decision to axe Tim’s meagre incapacity benefit contributed to his death”.
