Anyone who thinks Lord Fraud ‘mispoke’ or was just ‘thinking outside the box’ when he made the shameful comment that some disabled people are not worth the minimum wage has really not been paying attention.
This is the man that helped devise the despised Atos benefit assessments that have driven disabled people to suicide and ill health in the name of strippping their benefits or forcing them into endless ‘work related activity’. The same Minister whose department introduced the Work Programme, on which sick and disabled people can be sent on workfare, potentially for months on end. Lord Fraud was simply saying what he, and his colleagues in the DWP believe, that disabled people lead ‘wasted lives’ and as such do not deserve the same rights as other workers. That is why this Government has introduced scheme after scheme aimed at coercing – and in some cases forcing – sick and disabled people to work without any pay at all.
There doesn’t need to be a conversation about what Lord Fraud said, as some commentators have suggested. A conversation that is unlikely to include disabled people or claimants themselves if this week’s news coverage is anything to go by. The man is a nasty and vindictive piece of shit. And he needs to go, now.
Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) have called an emergency protest calling for his resignation tomorrow (Monday 20th Oct) at 12.30 pm outside the Department of Work and Pensions in central London. In the words of DPAC:
“Freud is the architect of the government’s noxious welfare reform programme that is pushing disabled people off benefits and causing untold distress and misery, in too many cases leading to suicides and avoidable deaths.
The policies Freud designed show utter contempt for disabled people. Hallo Johnny. Two days ago I formed an idea about Freud’s statements and their possible conseqences. It is simple. Even if these disgusting statements were not intended to reach the public, they can be used by governments, and not only in the UK (I hear they have reached the Netherlands). If minds and opinions are successfully manipulated to let a drastic fall in the minimum wage be implemented, then wages at higher levels might well drop too, almost automatically. Other Welfare State provisions can also be adversely affected.
Lord Fraud is now hiding behind the other CONS wit a gagging order. So if Lord fraud goes the whole of the CONS go. Safety in numbers. Stripped of his knighthood – de-knighted as plain old mr Fraud.

The councillor who admitted setting up a sham company with the express intent of underpaying an employee, and negating the minimum wage, via a service company has managed to walk away unscathed… he should be sacked for that fact alone, and prosecuted for the offences by HMRC…. although knowing HMRC they would probably charge the poor bastard who was tricked into being a “director.”
The other galling fact is the councilor also gets paid a large amount from one of his companies which is paid to “house the stock” (as the DWP/Fraud like to call the disabled and sick) of disabled people while then employing the disabled to cut the grass on the cheap buy setting up a sham company.
As the CONs have said they are putting £50 Billion a year on the Disabled & disabled Services. Meaning sham companies like Disability Confident PLC trading on the Stick Exchange. Disabled people will see none of that money !!! £50 billion times by 5 years = £250 Billion spent [Money Laundered] on the disabled.

We we have to draw a line in the sand here: if a person is doing a JOB and they are doing that job to the required standard in terms of competence and productivity them they are entitled to the same remuneration irrespective of whether they are disabled, black, Jewish, previously long-term unemployed. Let’s take an example: we have too job centre “advisers” sat side-by-side and they are both doing the SAME job and reaching the SAME sanction targets then why should one not receive an Easter Egg or £25 M&S voucher for reaching their targets just because they happen to be in a wheelchair? It’s nonsense! I suspect that Lord Fraud and the BBC are attempting to conflate a JOB with ‘supported employment’ which isn’t really a job in the full sense of the word. If my (disabled) child is doing a PROPER JOB just like a PROPER EMPLOYEE I expect her to to the PROPER PAY irrespective of her disability.

Incidentally, a well known supermarket chain has opened in my neck of the woods recently and seems things haven’t been going too well. So they’ve been open about two months and already have paid off a load of PT staff! What’s the betting they will be replaced by Workfare drones working for their dole? A blind student was reduced to tears when she was refused service in a Tesco store for taking in her guide dog. Maya Makri, 39, was “horrified” on Monday when a cashier at a Tesco store in Swiss Cottage, London, told her that “pets are not allowed”.
Makri says staff refused to acknowledge that her black Labrador Jemma was not a pet, despite the fact she was wearing a fluorescent high-viz jacket and harness labelled “guide dog”.
Makri told the Evening Standard: “I pointed out that this was no pet, but a guide dog. This should have been immediately obvious from the dog’s high-viz harness and fluorescent guide dog label on the lead.
“I repeatedly said that I was registered blind and that this was a trained assistance dog, to no avail. Various customers tried to back me up, but we were shouted down. I burst into tears outside the store in sheer frustration.”

Makri says that initially she was contacted by customer services at Tesco and offered a £20 voucher.
A spokesperson for Tesco has said: “We do allow guide dogs in stores and have reminded colleagues of that. We also offer customers with guide dogs help with their shopping, if they would like assistance.”
The news comes after hundreds of protesters staged a mass kiss-in in the aisles of a Sainsbury’s store in Brighton on Wednesday. Two gay women had been threatened with ejection and told that a customer found them “disgusting” when they shared a brief kiss.
Annabelle Paige, 22, an English literature student at the University of Sussex has said she was “deeply hurt and upset” when a security guard asked her and her female partner to stop kissing or leave the supermarket.
Sainsbury’s apologised for the incident, by saying “it is clear that Miss Paige and her partner were not behaving inappropriately and we are very sorry that they were treated in this way.”
Last month Sports Direct was also criticised, when a security guard allegedly barred a group of 11-year-old Jewish schoolboys from entering the store by saying “no Jews, no Jews”. The security guard at the store in Borehamwood in Hertfordshire has been sacked and will be the subject of an investigation.

Slightly off topic, but one 24hr supermarket in Cardiff (can’t remember which) talked of banning people wearing pyjamas shopping in the small hours. I understand that Tesco and others ban barefoot shoppers. Why? we aren’t handling produce with our feet. A thing about bare feet? Well, I shop regularly while wearing sandals with my bare feet in full sight, so what’s the difference?
I see Mark Harper, his junior, tried to pass off Fraud’s comments as “use of inappropriate language”. These people are completely contemptuous of the public.
Also, Cameron, in PMQs, said nobody in his government holds those views. A complete lie, as Fraud had recently uttered such a view.
And others tried to defend him saying he was saying some disabled people want to work for less than the minimum wage, etc. – so in that case, why did Fraud’s apology say all disabled people should get the minimum wage?
(Not that an apology is worth anything – it is merely a way to try to avoid resigning.)

People who are rushing to the defense of Lord Freud need to be reminded that he is the architect of the draconian welfare reforms, and unjustly escapes opprobrium because Iain Duncan Smith is the public face of the DWP. Freud’s policies, including the bedroom tax, have driven the sick and disabled to suicide, trapped them into poverty and destitution, and hastened their death. Food bank use has soared and malnutrition has increased dramatically.
Lord Freud insisted that it was not possible to carry out cumulative impact assessments on disabled people and told the Daily Telegraph in February 2008 that he believed fewer than a third of those receiving IB were legitimate claimants. He has refused to consider exempting disabled people from the bedroom tax, despite new research that suggests many are facing eviction from their homes.
Full disclosure: Since January 2012, I have been reporting voluntarily to the UN’s human rights office, in Geneva, on the welfare crisis for Britain’s sick and disabled.

“If a severely disabled person cannot produce more than the minimum wage’s worth of work, no employer will be able to profitably employ them.” – cleverly spun by that prick Sam Bowman of the far right-wing Adam Smith Institute. At no point did Fraud mention severely disabled persons or whether or not they were as productive as an able-bodied employee. Or even if their disability in any way actually affects the job they are doing. Fraud was talking about disabled person doing exactly the same job as an able bodied person but being paid only £2 an hour just because they were disabled in some way.

SACK HIM: Lord Freud
WHAT a strange affliction which seems to be gripping some of the ministers of this government.
Firstly we have welfare reform minister Lord Freud’s statement that disabled workers might not be “worth” the full minimum wage.
Strangely, a comment made in a fringe meeting, not the House of Commons or another forum where his views could be roundly challenged. Somewhere where, some might suspect, those making such comments might seek to “preach to the choir” of those they imagine hold views such as theirs.
Somewhere where, unless someone is filming it and putting it on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter, comments like that might never see the light of day in “mainstream media” circles.
As I write this column, he has apologised, but he remains in government. Just why is a mystery. If the man refuses to go with grace for an attitude towards disabled workers which stinks from here to Westminster, his Prime Minister should man up and sack him.
A vote of no confidence in him looks set to be tabled by the Opposition tomorrow.
A new petition calling for Lord Freud’s sacking is now trending on change.org.
Then, today, we have media reports that Andrew Selous, a Justice minister and former parliamentary aide to Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, told a fringe meeting that “disabled people work harder because they’re grateful to have a job”.
The Independent on Sunday reports that Mr Selous made the comments at a Centre for Social Justice fringe meeting, where he was speaking on the government’s reforms to the criminal justice system. Tania Bassett and Dave Adams, two senior members of the Napo probation union, which opposes the reforms, were sitting in the front row.
Ms Bassett told the newspaper: “There was a lot of muttering, like ‘I can’t believe he just said this’. He was talking about employment for offenders, suggesting that, like disabled people, they’ll work hard.”
Mr Selous defended his position by saying: “My recollection is that the point I was making was the feedback I had… that employers are often very, very pleased with disabled employees; they work harder, they are loyal. These are good reasons to employ disabled people and offenders.”
Disability rights campaigners say that the use of the word “grateful” was misjudged.
It’s a front bench foot-in-mouth disease.
It all smacks of the worthy and unworthy poor distinctions of this current government to me.
Now, we have the worthy disabled folk, grateful for their chance to work, Cratchit-like in their “God bless us, every one!”
But then there are those who simply don’t deserve that minimum wage, through no fault of their own, of course, but – still…..
What next? Who should be in the next layer of gratitude for being given a wage? The poor, the disabled, women who decide to have children?
People with disabilities should not have to feel grateful for basic human rights of any kind, including a decent wage.
They should not have to feel a burden on society.
Because how we treat those who are less able or ill is the measure of us.
And this government is falling short of the measure by which I want my country to live.
Substitute the word illness in this quote for disability: “Illness is neither an indulgence for which people have to pay, nor an offence for which they should be penalised, but a misfortune, the cost of which should be shared by the community,” Aneurin Bevan.
THE case of Risca teacher Philip Meredith – cleared of any misconduct by the General Teaching Council for Wales – shows just how unacceptable it is that anyone should have to wait for three years for the allegations against them to be decided upon.
Mr Meredith said that he was not told for 10 months what the substance of those allegations were after he had been suspended.
Then, it was three years of agony waiting for all the school, local education authority and GTCW processes to be completed.
During that time, he was making ends meet with supermarket jobs and could not return to the job he loved.
For three years.
This case surely should prompt an investigation into how it has all taken so long, and that investigation should be made public.
Mr Meredith’s school employers, the LEA and the GTCW are all publicly-funded and must answer to us.

A second government minister made contentious comments over the disabled and their role in the workplace at the Conservative Party’s annual conference last month, The Independent on Sunday can reveal.
Andrew Selous, a Justice minister and former parliamentary aide to Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, told a fringe meeting that “disabled people work harder because they’re grateful to have a job”.
His comments are revealed just days after David Cameron faced calls to sack Lord Freud as Welfare Reform minister after a recording emerged of him telling a separate fringe meeting that disabled people were “not worth” the full minimum wage. The IoS has learned that Labour will hold a vote of no confidence in Lord Freud, in the Commons. Labour will table the motion tomorrow and the vote will be on 29 October, the first available opportunity, when it has its opposition day debate. Labour sources said the pressure would be on the Lib Dems to back the motion after Nick Clegg said last week that Lord Freud’s comments were “deeply distressing and offensive”.
In a further development, David Blunkett, the blind former Cabinet minister, said people with his form of disability should be able to work on “equal terms”, after the journalist Tom Utley wrote that his father, the late Daily Telegraph journalist TE Utley, was happy to work for less money than his sighted colleagues.
Responding to Mr Utley’s article in the Daily Mail on the Lord Freud row, Mr Blunkett told The IoS: “I am very sorry that Tom Utley recalled his father’s situation in this particular dispute. He was always applauded for being able to work on equal terms and to use his remarkable memory… to do his job. It saddens me to have his memory diminished in this way.”
While Lord Freud apologised for his comments, supporters have insisted that he was discussing the idea, previously backed by Labour and some disability groups, for the Government to provide additional support to employers who take on disabled workers.
The emergence of a second minister’s comments risked adding fuel to the row. Mr Selous made the comments at a Centre for Social Justice fringe meeting, where he was speaking on the Government’s reforms to the criminal justice system. Tania Bassett and Dave Adams, two senior members of the Napo probation union, which opposes the reforms, were sitting in the front row.
Mr Adams said: “I was shocked. It was one of those moments where you think ‘did he really just say that?’.”

Privately, disability rights campaigners are split over whether Mr Selous’ language was offensive or not, though most agreed that the word “grateful” was misjudged. A spokesman for Disability Rights UK said that case studies backed up Mr Selous’ views, pointing out that many disabled people are “pretty determined to do well”, but he added “it’s not necessarily about gratitude”.
But Kate Green, the shadow Disabilities minister, said: “These new comments about disabled people from another Tory minister show they just don’t get it… Many would love to work, but Tory policies are failing disabled people.”
On the Labour motion, shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Rachel Reeves said: “David Cameron’s failure to act after Lord Freud said that some disabled people are ‘not worth the full wage’ is astonishing… it’s clear the mask has slipped and the nasty party is back.
“Labour will table a motion of no confidence in Lord Freud because we believe it’s completely unacceptable that David Cameron has failed to sack his minister for Welfare Reform.”

Of course, it won’t stop with the disabled… why should an unemployed person be paid the full minimum wage? They were unemployed after all!

Hundreds of people demanding the resignation of welfare minister Lord David Freud rallied outside the Department for Work and Pensions in London, Monday.
Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) organised the protest after Freud, the Conservative MP and Minister for Welfare, was recorded saying that “there is a group” of disabled workers that are “not worth the full wage” during a Conservative Party conference in September.
The protesters then marched down the street, temporarily blocking traffic, to join the nearby Occupy Democracy protesters, who have been occupying Parliament Square for five days.
Nearly 24,000 people have signed an online petition at Change.org calling for David Cameron to sack Freud over the comments.

I believe that there should be a level playing field, and that there should be full freedom of movement for all EU citizens (I’d like all people, everywhere to have that same freedom too, but it has to start somewhere) but part of that level playing field needs to involve the establishment of a European minimum wage so that migration is truly from choice and not merely as a result of a choice between destitution/poverty at home and relative prosperity in the wealthier areas of Europe.

I beg to differ but it was the EU that raised the pension age for women, the uk sent in a token man as a red herring to the European courts to have his pension age reduced to that of a woman’s i.e. 60years old under the equal rights act.
The EU raised womens pension age instead as I predicted it would and the UK slapped another year on top of that.

Using a renegade company, ATOS, not recognised by any health organisation, ONLY BY THE sECRETARY OF STATE, my benefits were stolen to order……………….
My change of circumstance is simple, i have been left to exist on £32 per week since last july, some fifteen months ago.
Less than half the amount afforded to an able bodied person.
This action is in breach of Disability Discrimination Acts, Equality Acts and MULTIPLE BREACHES OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACT.

Terry McGarvey, 48. Dangerously ill from polycytheamia, Terry asked for an ambulance to be called during his Work Capability Assessment. He knew that he wasn’t well enough to attend his WCA but feared that his benefits would be stopped if he did not.
He died the following day.
Elaine Lowe, 53. Suffering from COPD and fearful of losing her benefits. In desperation, Elaine chose to commit suicide.
Mark Wood, 44. Found fit for work by Atos, against his Doctors advice and assertions that he had complex mental health problems. Starved to death after benefits stopped, weighing only 5st 8lb when he died.
Paul Reekie, 48, the Leith based Poet and Author. Suffered from severe depression. Committed suicide after DWP stopped his benefits due to an Atos ‘fit for work’ decision.

On appeal, a judge overturned the Atos decision and ordered them to leave him alone for at least a year, which they did not do. In desperation, Chris took his own life, unable to cope anymore.
Peter Duut, a Dutch national with terminal cancer living in the UK for many years found that he was not entitled to benefits unless he was active in the labour market. Peter died leaving his wife destitute, and unable to pay for his funeral.

Julian Little, 47. Wheelchair bound and suffering from kidney failure, Julian faced the harsh restrictions of the Bedroom Tax and the loss of his essential dialysis room. He died shortly after being ordered to downgrade.
Miss DE, Early 50’s. Suffering from mental illness, this lady committed suicide less than a month after an Atos assessor gave her zero points and declared her fit for work.
Robert Barlow, 47. Suffering from a brain tumour, a heart defect and awaiting a transplant, Robert was deemed fit for work by Atos and his benefits were withdrawn. He died penniless less than two years later.
Carl Joseph Foster-Brown, 58. As a direct consequence of the wholly unjustifiable actions of the Job centre and DWP, this man took his own life.
Martin Hadfield, 20 years old. Disillusioned with the lack of jobs available in this country but too proud to claim benefits. Utterly demoralised, Martin took his own life by hanging himself.
Annette Francis, 30. A mum-of-one suffering from severe mental illness, found dead after her disability benefits were ceased.
Ian Jordan, 60. His benefits slashed after Atos and the DWP declared Ian, a sufferer of Barratt’s Oesophagus, fit for work, caused him to run up massive debts in order to survive. Ian was found dead in his flat after taking an overdose.
Janet McCall, 53. Terminally ill with pulmonary fibrosis and declared ‘Fit for Work’ by Atos and the DWP, this lady died 5 months after her benefits were stopped.

You’ll know the observation attributed to Gandhi that “the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members” – or, if not, you will recall a similar sentiment expressed by someone else. Samuel Johnson, Dietrich Bonhoeffer … just about anybody who’s ever appeared in a GCSE textbook has come up with such a line.
For most of my life the truism has seemed precisely that: so uncontroversial as to be a cliche. Sure, you could argue the toss over what good treatment means, or who should be included among the vulnerable. But no matter how moth-eaten and means-tested their welfare state, how dilute their social democracy, the first world, G7-club British would never publicly repudiate their commitments to the sick, the elderly, the poor. Until the past four years, and the election of a government that treats disabled people with a scarcely believable callousness.
The prompt for this piece is of course Lord Freud’s musings on whether people with disabilities should work for £2 an hour. Or, rather, it’s the debate that has dutifully followed in parliament and the press over what the welfare minister meant and whether in private he’s a sensitive flower. Because such semantics are entirely to miss the point. The comments are just the smallest injury Freud has dealt disabled people. Under the benefit reforms and spending cuts brought in by Freud and his colleagues Iain Duncan Smith, George Osborne and David Cameron, people with disabilities have been hit harder by austerity than any other group you might think of.
To be disabled in post-2010 Britain is to be unsure when and whether your benefits will be paid because the new system keeps chopping and changing and growing historic backlogs – so that even a parliamentary select committee describes the switch-over as a “fiasco”. It’s to be constantly monitored on whether you really are disabled, because the Department for Work and Pensions is animated by only one idea: that someone, somewhere, is claiming something to which they’re not entitled.
It’s also to hear that the private firm doing the assessments declares as fit for work people on the verge of death, such as Linda Wootton, whose employment and support allowance (ESA) was cut off while she lay in a hospital bed, drowning in her own body fluids. It’s to rely on social care, which is now just someone popping by on a flying visit, forever on their way to the next “client”. It’s to see your benefits slashed and to hear of more cuts to come. And it’s to be classified as a scrounger – for the cardinal sin of not being as well as other people.
Anyone who relies on public services and welfare – the unemployed, the young and very elderly and the low-paid – will recognise some of the above. But the point about people with disabilities is that they often rely on a range of services from the welfare state. The worse your impairments, the more you’ll need public support – not just specific disability benefits such as ESA, but housing benefit and social care too.
The bedroom tax might as well have been explicitly designed to wreak havoc for any disabled people who need an extra room for equipment or a carer. And historic cuts to local government budgets mean that care is being slashed.
A relatively small group is being whacked again and again by Cameron and co. Researchers at the thinktank Demos last year observed that 120,000 faced a “triple whammy” of losing a number of core disability benefits all at once; 99,000 would see cuts to four benefits at once. At the same time, the Centre for Welfare Reform estimated that, compared with the average, people with disabilities would be hit nine times harder by austerity; the total hit for those with severe disabilities would be 19 times greater.
Going by GDP data, this country has never been so wealthy. It certainly has the money to look after a group that Gandhi and you and I would recognise as being among our most vulnerable. Indeed, just a few weeks ago, the PM announced that, if re-elected, he would find the cash to cut tax bills for high earners.
Which leads me to the conclusion that the reason coalition ministers don’t mind slashing entitlements for disabled people, are quite happy to use them as guinea pigs for new benefits that don’t work, and to chuck them at incompetents such as Atos, is because they couldn’t care less. That’s also the most generous interpretation one can put on the comments made by Freud. A man who’s been working at the heart of government for six years and who was once a journalist for the FT can’t be described as inarticulate. If his words, or those similar comments made by senior Tories Philip Davies or Andrew Selous, were carelessly chosen it is because the speakers don’t care about the people they’re airily discussing.
Contempt for disabled people runs right through coalition policy. Just look at how the government is scrapping the Independent Living Fund (ILF) – a small cash pot that ensures about 19,000 severely disabled people get the support they need to live in their communities. The court of appeal last year declared the fund’s closure illegal; but armed with some extra paperwork Duncan Smith and his ministers reannounced its abolition by next March.
Ever since, as the tireless blogger Kate Belgrave has documented, the Disabled People against Cuts and other campaigners have mounted increasingly dramatic protests – and this week they go to the Royal Courts of Justice. We should all hope they win. If they lose, thousands of severely disabled people will either be prisoners in their own home or shut up in a far more expensive residential care facility.
This isn’t a partisan issue. Freud got his first job from Gordon Brown, and Ed Miliband has no plans to save the ILF or to significantly deviate from the coalition’s cuts. In our name the political classes are destroying the lives of disabled people: through cuts, through anxiety and through vilification.
The coalition has so thoroughly vilified “scroungers” that hate crimes against people with disabilities are rising year on year: up 13% since 2011. Forty per cent of incidents are violent. Take the visually impaired man walking in Brighton last year, who was asked by a stranger what it was like to be blind – before being set on fire. Campaigner Paula Peters tells me she’s been spat at in the street, while friends in wheelchairs have been shoved into oncoming traffic.
Austerity is the incompetent treatment of the symptoms of a dysfunctional economy rather than its cause. Housing benefit bill too high? Don’t build more council houses, cut welfare! Paying too much in tax credits? Don’t get employers to pay more, cut benefits! Rather than help create decent jobs, Cameron and Freud prefer to drive Britons off welfare into cut-price employment. That logic is at its most naked and futile in the treatment of disabled people. They are being beaten harder than anyone else; yet no amount of guff about shirking will suddenly make them less disabled.
The day before writing this I spoke to Angela Smith. A master’s graduate from Warwick, she has cerebral palsy. After being made redundant in 2011, she has just landed herself a new job. But she did it despite the government, not because of it. The jobcentre was no use and neither was her employment agency. Now she’s back in an office, the state’s Access to Work scheme is taking ages to provide the necessary help. That’s something Freud might care to help with. As Smith points out, support would have been much more use to her than the threat of sanctions and cuts. “David Cameron’s son had a very similar condition to me,” she told me. “I don’t understand why he can’t use his personal experience in making better policies.”

Denis Jones, 58. A disabled man crushed by the pressures of government cuts, in particular the Bedroom Tax, and unable to survive by himself. Denis was found dead in his flat.
Shaun Pilkington, 58. Unable to cope any more, Shaun shot himself dead after receiving a letter from the DWP informing him that his ESA was being stopped.
Paul ?, 51. Died in a freezing cold flat after his ESA was stopped. Paul appealed the decision and won on the day that he lost his battle to live.
Chris MaGuire, 61. Deeply depressed and incapable of work, Chris was summonsed by Atos for a Work Capability Assessment and deemed fit for work. On appeal, a judge overturned the Atos decision and ordered them to leave him alone for at least a year, which they did not do. In desperation, Chris took his own life, unable to cope anymore.
Peter Duut, a Dutch national with terminal cancer living in the UK for many years found that he was not entitled to benefits unless he was active in the labour market. Peter died leaving his wife destitute, and unable to pay for his funeral.
George Scollen, age unknown. Took his own life after the government closed the Remploy factory he had worked in for 40 years.
Julian Little, 47. Wheelchair bound and suffering from kidney failure, Julian faced the harsh restrictions of the Bedroom Tax and the loss of his essential dialysis room. He died shortly after being ordered to downgrade.
Miss DE, Early 50’s. Suffering from mental illness, this lady committed suicide less than a month after an Atos assessor gave her zero points and declared her fit for work.
Robert Barlow, 47. Suffering from a brain tumour, a heart defect and awaiting a transplant, Robert was deemed fit for work by Atos and his benefits were withdrawn. He died penniless less than two years later.
Carl Joseph Foster-Brown, 58. As a direct consequence of the wholly unjustifiable actions of the Job centre and DWP, this man took his own life.
Martin Hadfield, 20 years old. Disillusioned with the lack of jobs available in this country but too proud to claim benefits. Utterly demoralised, Martin took his own life by hanging himself.
Annette Francis, 30. A mum-of-one suffering from severe mental illness, found dead after her disability benefits were ceased.
Ian Jordan, 60. His benefits slashed after Atos and the DWP declared Ian, a sufferer of Barratt’s Oesophagus, fit for work, caused him to run up massive debts in order to survive. Ian was found dead in his flat after taking an overdose.
Janet McCall, 53. Terminally ill with pulmonary fibrosis and declared ‘Fit for Work’ by Atos and the DWP, this lady died 5 months after her benefits were stopped.
Stuart Holley, 23. A man driven to suicide by the DWP’s incessant pressure and threat of sanctions for not being able to find a job.
Graham Shawcross, 63. A sufferer of the debilitating disease, Addison’s. Died of a heart attack due to the stress of an Atos ‘Fit for Work’ decision.
David Clapson, 59 years old. A diabetic ex-soldier deprived of the means to survive by the DWP and the governments harsh welfare reforms, David died all but penniless, starving and alone, his electricity run out.
Chris Smith, 59. Declared ‘Fit for Work’ by Atos as he lay dying of Cancer in his hospital bed.
Nathan Hartwell, 36, died of heart failure after an 18-month battle with the Department for Works and Pensions.
Michael Connolly, 60. A Father of One, increasingly worried about finances after his benefits were cut. Committed suicide by taking 13 times the fatal dose of prescription medicine on the 30th October – His Birthday.
Jan Mandeville, 52, A lady suffering from Fibromyalgia, driven to the point of mental and physical breakdown by this governments welfare reforms. Jan was found dead in her home after battling the DWP for ESA and DLA.
Trevor Drakard, 50 years old. A shy and reserved, severe epileptic who suffered regular and terrifying fits almost his entire life, hounded to suicide by the DWP who threatened to stop his life-line benefits.
Death of a severely disabled Dorset resident, unnamed, who took her own life while battling the bedroom tax.
May their deaths be avenged.
