The Working Class Is Back In The Game, Let’s Make Sure We Fucking Stay There

fucking-angryI was fucking angry when I wrote this post in the early aftermath of the referendum and I’m sorry if I offended anyone.  Of course not everyone who voted Remain was part of the pampered middle class and some of the racism from the Leave campaign was as vile as anything we have seen in decades.  I should have mentioned that, and equally that Remain were all too happy to exploit racism when it suited them.  And I forgot to mention that Nigel Farage is a cunt.

I was angry though, at the sneering abuse from a metropolitan elite that assumed working class communities were racist,  thick or uneducated because they refused to vote in the interests of the privileged.  I was furious, and astonished, that a vote for an institution that would rather non-Europeans fleeing war drown in the sea than cross its hallowed borders was presented as the anti-racist choice.  And I was dismayed that EU imposed austerity, that has brought such devastation to so many lives,  was air-brushed away in favour of some sentimental notion of harmony that is apparently so flimsy it will fall apart unless it is imposed by an authoritarian neo-liberal superstate.

As ever, there was little thought for the poorest in the EU referendum, wherever they came from.  No cares at all for the EU migrants set to face a four year freeze on benefits in the event of Remain winning.  A wilful ignorance of EU rules that were already leading to the deportation of homeless migrants and which are soon to be used to attack those who have come from Europe and can’t find a job – or who don’t earn enough money.  And of course these rules are set by an EU Parliament that has little more than a handful of Black or ethnic minority MEPs but dozens from the far right.  Fortress Europe as a force for anti-racism?  Don’t make me fucking laugh.

It is clear that class, and perhaps more precisely income, was one of the largest drivers of the vote to leave the European union.  As voices from the forgotten North have pointed out, there are many communities that have nothing left to lose and who hope, as we should all hope, that any significant change could be a change for the better.  That just for once the powerless could seize some control and inflict a crushing blow on the bankers and bureacrats that have driven so many into destitution.

Of course many of these voices were drowned out as television crews scoured the poorest parts of the UK looking for the most racist person they could find and giving them unprecedented air time in a bid to smear the entire working classs. Yes, immigration was a factor in some people’s vote, but rarely the only factor.  The Remain campaign though, and the media that supported them, were intent on portraying this as the sole reason anyone could possibly want to leave the decaying monstrous European Union.

It is true that immigration often leads to economic growth and that this can increase jobs.  There is ample evidence to support this.  But to claim that these benefits are felt uniformly across society is a deception.  The sad fact is that austerity plus the current neoliberal management of migration has impacted on housing, wages and services in some areas, and in particular in places that were already desperately poor to begin with.  These impacts may be relatively small in economic terms, but when you’ve got fuck all then relatively small can be the difference between keeping a roof over your head or not.

This may be an uncomfortable truth for the left,  which is rightly committed to anti-racism, but it is a truth.  To insist that people are liars or racists when they describe what is happening in their lives is a path that will divorce the left from the poorest members of the working class completely.  In many cases it is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic communities that are raising these concerns, places far more diverse than the latte-slurping metropolitan enclaves where white middle class self-styled anti-racists only ever speak to a migrant when they are at the check-out in Waitrose.  It is time to listen, without pre-judging, to what many working class people in the poorest parts of the country are saying.

That does not mean pandering to racists, in fact the opposite urgently needs to take place.  More than ever racism must be confronted, whether that’s organised fascists or loud mouthed dickheads who’ve deluded themselves that just because the UK voted out of the EU it means we all agree with their spiteful bigotry.  But it does mean having difficult conversations, and thinking difficult thoughts and recognising that having concerns about immigration policies, at a time of savage austerity, does not mean someone is automatically a closet nazi or swivel-eyed extremist.

There has been no attempt by the government to mitigate the scarcity caused by  austerity in deprived areas that have also seen high levels of migration.  In fact they have done the opposite with vicious cuts to benefits and vital services.   If that causes divisions in our class then that is all the better for their neoliberal aims.  Migration – a normal human phenomena – has been weaponised by capital across Europe to drive down the living standards of the working class.  Free movement was not granted so we could all have nicer holidays, but to create a flexible, mobile, precarious workforce to allow the continent to compete with China, India, Brazil, or whoever this week’s scary foreign bogeyman is.

That doesn’t mean free movement is automatically bad just because it has been imposed by capitalists – the ability to live, visit and work in any Euopean country is truly a wonderful thing.  It is a freedom that is certain to continue even with the UK outside of the EU.  But it costs over seventy quid these days just for a fucking passport.  That’s a week’s money for someone on the dole before they even step on a boat.  And if they do get on a boat they’ll lose their benefits because you aren’t allowed to go abroad if you’re claming Jobseeker’s Allowance.   At a time of such rampant inequality this freedom to travel across the continent is invisible to the poor.  Many who voted Leave will have never set foot in another European country – not because they are racists, not because they don’t want to, but because they can’t afford it.

The dream of a truly integrated Europe, or indeed world, will never be anything but a middle-class fantasy under current economic policies and whilst the poorest are suffering like never before.  Fascism is stalking many countries despite their membership of the European Union.  If there is one thing that is certain it is that they are organising here as well.  The  political chaos that has ensued in the wake of the referendum is creating a vacuum at the heart of the UK’s political system.  That is a fucking opportunity.  The far right know this and the more the liberal left sneers at the thick racists who didn’t do what they wanted then the stronger fascism becomes.  There seem some who will almost relish any increase in far right activity, as an opportunity to say ‘I told you so’.  This is a truly treacherous position.  There is no excuse for standing on the sidelines now, whichever way you voted.

The UK is facing a period of political instability that has not been seen in generations.  There is barely even a government at the moment and the Tory party are just as split as Labour.  We are about to see an unelected, inexperienced Prime Minister trying to hold onto power during a period of enormous turbulence.  Meanwhile austerity continues apace with the introduction of Universal Credit set to cut the incomes of the poorest even further.  It is easy to generalise, and I have done, there were many subtleties at play during the EU referendum.  But what can’t be ignored is that a large proportion of the working class demanded change and politicians are terrified.  The working class is back in the game, let’s make sure we stay there.

And that means taking real action, not just shouting slogans or marching pointlessly behind ever more irrelevent leaders.  It means those that may have concerns about immigration policies standing side by side with immigrants themselves against racism and benefit cuts because we are always stronger together – and there is a difference between policies and people.  It also means those from more affluent areas listening to and trying to understand what many people in the North, Wales and parts of the South, have been saying – despite being ignored – for over three decades.

It will require doing the hard work, the boring stuff, and an anti-fascism that not just engages in set piece punch ups with the far right but addresses the reason those cunts even exist.  Most of all it means a class united, whatever people’s race, colour or creed- with no tolerance for bigotry, including the elite, liberal sneering at the poor that has been all too evident the last few weeks.  Because then we might actually start to fucking win some stuff.  And that will mean another Europe really is possible.

Here’s some things coming up that are taking place in London and elsewhere over the next few days.  Support DPAC’s national day of action against disability assessors Capita this Wednesday (13th July), in person if you can or online – events have been organised around the UK.  Groups organising under the Black Lives Matter banner are also holding protests this week against racist policing, including one in London tomorrow (10/7/16) beginning at Oxford Circus at 10am.  There’s another solidarity protest with the migrant cleaners currently on indefinite strike doe to the shit wages paid by property vultures CBRE being held on Wednesday 13th July from 5pm at 100 Wood Street, EC2V.  On Friday 15th July Class War will be marching on Boris Johnson’s house in Islington because why should that wanker get away scot-free after the chaos he has caused in the capital and beyond.  Then there’s a boring as we make it People’s Assembly demo in central London next Saturday 16th July.  Get along to everything you can and let’s seize the initiative.   Our time is now if we choose to live it.

……………Remember the CAIT RILEY judge who announced workfare did not amount to slavery………..

The ruling against Cait Riley and Jamieson Wilson (Unpaid work schemes ruled lawful as high court rejects Poundland case, 6 August) that the government’s workfare schemes are legal sets a dark precedent for unemployed and working people. Whatever the courts say, workfare is a violation of human rights. Judge Foskett said in his ruling that “characterising such a scheme as involving or being analogous to ‘slavery’ or ‘forced labour’ seems to me to be a long way from contemporary thinking”. This is of course the case if by “contemporary thinking” you mean the thinking of the 1%, of the government and big business.

“130,000 LABOUR PARTY MEMBERS DENIED VOTE”

A separate legal action is being brought by a group of members excluded from voting in the contest because they did not sign up before 12 January, and have not signed up separately by paying £25 to become registered supporters.

That case could be heard in the high court before 4 August and will determine whether around 130,000 excluded members will be able to take part in the voting.

Police are investigating allegedly hidden payments totalling £30,000 that were made to a Conservative MP’s general election campaign.

Northampton South MP David Mackintosh received three donations of £10,000 each, the source of which were apparently disguised, according to the BBC.

Police have confirmed they have received information from the Electoral Commission and are considering whether electoral law has been breached.

“YOU SCRATCH MY BACK AND I WILL SCRATCH YOURS”

Mr Mackintosh, who was previously the ex-leader of Northampton council, has said he will “cooperate fully with the police”.

He added: “I had no reason to believe that the donations were from anyone other than the named donors.”

The cash came from a company at the centre of a probe into the disappearance of millions of pounds of public money – as revealed by the BBC in April.

1st Land Ltd received the majority of a £10.25m loan made to Northampton Town Football Club by the Borough Council in order to rebuild its football stadium.

But the project was put on hold after contractors were not paid. A similar situation occurred with an £8.75m project, where the building loan was paid to 1st Land Ltd and another company.

The donations, made between April and May 2014, were made by individuals with links to Howard Grossman, who owned 1st Land Ltd, according to the BBC.

              Of which:

        • “JUDGE PHILIP SALES, BLAIR’S JUDICIAL PUPPET AND BENT AS A NINE BOB NOTE”

………………A PRAT IN A POWDERED WIG

In what is a consolation victory for the Labour Party’s establishment in the Court of Appeal, it has been revealed by WikiLeaks that there may be more to the decision than meets the eye.

After Sir Philip Sales QC overruled the previous High Court decision to allow the 130,000 disenfranchised Labour Party members to vote in the up and coming leadership election – notorious whistle-blower Wikileaks revealed that Sales had been a Blair insider for years, having been recruited as Junior Counsel to the Crown in 1997.

#Corbyn vote exclusion Court of Appeal judge Philip Sales was Blair insider for years https://t.co/j7ozmxFE1g & https://t.co/75Q8E0rVPT

          — WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) August 12, 2016

The literature cited by WikiLeaks confirms that immediately after Labour’s victory in the 1997 general election, Sales was recruited by Tony Blair. Interestingly, it also reveals that Sales used to be a practising barrister at law chambers 11KBW, of which Tony Blair was a founder member. At the time of the appointment, there was uproar over Sales’ appointment and plunged Blair into a cronyism row.

According to The Guardian’s coverage of the sexual discrimination case brought against Sales’ appointment, a source close to the case referred to 11KBW as a ‘network of old boys and cronies’, and that there was ‘no coincidence that the appointment came from Lord Irvine’s and Tony Blair’s old chambers’.

Since his appointment in 1997, Sir Philip Sales managed to rack up a hefty bill to the taxpayer as the highest earning lawyer in the entire government. Moreover, as a key part of Blair’s legal team, he also defended the Government’s decision against holding a public inquiry into the Iraq War in the High Court in 2005.

Clearly, there is no evidence of wrongdoing, only that of a conflict of interest. Sales’ deep involvement in the Labour Party during the Blair years will raise questions about the legitimacy of his shock ruling in favour of the National Executive Committee, especially as there was an evident breach of contract.

Despite these 130,000 members being told in black and white that they were eligible to vote in upcoming leadership elections upon registration, today they have been officially cast aside by their own party in an attempt to skew a result that is already a foregone conclusion. The biggest kick in the teeth, however, is that the permission to do so was granted by a former key lawyer of Tony Blair’s Labour government.

          • “REQUIRE A BENT DECISION, GET A BENT JUDGE”

SIR PHILIP SALES QC, ……….So bent he could hide behind a corkscrew……

He was called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1985. In 1997, he was recruited as First Junior Treasury Counsel (“Treasury Devil”), a private practitioner barrister who represents the UK government in the civil courts.[3] This caused “consternation” among senior lawyers, according to The Times due to his young age.[4]

Sales used to be a practising barrister at law chambers 11KBW, of which former Prime Minister Tony Blair was a founder member. At the time of the appointment, there was uproar over Sales’ appointment. According to The Guardian, a source close to the case referred to 11KBW as a “network of old boys and cronies”, and that there was “no coincidence that the appointment came from Lord Irvine’s and Tony Blair’s old chambers”.[5] Sales also defended the New Labour government’s decision against holding a public inquiry into the Iraq War in the High Court in 2005.[2]

“THE DWP’S BOGUS HEALTH ASSESSMENT STAKEHOLDERS”

          Dear DWP,
This is a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The DWP states in its notes sheet “About your face-to-face assessment” (ref WCA AL1C 02/15) on page 2:

“A fully qualified Healthcare Professional who works for the Health Assessment Advisory Service will carry out your face-to-face assessment.”

For a person to work for an entity it needs to have a legal entity/personality in the UK (e.g. be a limited company). I can find no record of a legal entity called “Health Assessment Advisory Service” registered with Companies House.

RFI1: Please tell me the nature of the legal relationship between the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and “Health Assessment Advisory Service” (e.g. is it via a contract?).

RFI2: If a contract or legal agreement does exist please provide me with a copy (or direct me to it if it is held online). I remind the DWP of its duty to confirm or deny. Also do not refer me to the contract with CHDA as that is not the entity I am asking about.

RFI3: If “Health Assessment Advisory Service” is a trading name then which legal entity is trading as “Health Assessment Advisory Service” and why is that not made clear in the ‘notes sheet’?

I’m sure that the DWP won’t care about this but if “Health Assessment Advisory Service” is a trading name of CHDA limited then the stationary being used to call ESA claimants to attend WCA is in breach of the Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008.

          Yours sincerely
          John Slater

      • “INSTITUTIONAL FRAUD OF THE DWP”
        STEALING DISABILITY BENEFITS

The one fundamental issue that still lives on, despite the games playing by the Government, HMCTS and Judiciary, is that the Welfare Reform Acts, did not repeal the Right of Supersession, Social Security Act (1998), meaning that all of the Migrations to ESA have been unlawful. As the DWP have not been superseding the earlier awards of benefit. (
To explain Right of Supersession. basically. where an existing claim is in place, the onus is upon the state to prove sufficient change that would required a supersession (to amend or terminate the award) it is an underpinning principle of the Social Security Acts.

The WCA however places the onus upon the claimant to proved entitlement, so they are not legally compatible.

The Underlying issue here is that both the Secretary of State and the Department of Work and pensions where fully aware that their actions had been and remain illegal amounting to a level of institutional fraud, that dwarfs the whole of last decades figures on claimant fraud/error combined.Despite this being a legal requirement since 1998).

…………how many more disabled claimants must die to make the welfare state more attractive to a takeover by the private sector?

  3. I’d be genuinely interested to hear your views on why some of the most working class areas of Scotland voted to remain. In North Edinburgh and Leith, one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Scotland, the remain vote was 78%. In fact, the largest leave vote was in rural Moray which is relatively affluent. I’m assuming you don’t think everyone in Scotland is a quinoa obsessed hipster…

    • Moray is not as affluent as you might think, and there is a fair bit of poverty about. It is true, there are a goodly number of well to do folks around, but that is not the overall picture of things. There is also a fair number of folks who have moved there from elsewhere, partly due to the military airbases. These tend to be a bit better off too. It does have to be notes that some of the local fishing communities did have issues with EU policy, most of which is decided for the local area by Westminster. But other fishing areas did not vote in such large numbers for Leave. The Moray vote is a wee bit more complex than other places for these different reasons. A vote outcome that leaves a lot of ppl in the area a bit puzzled.

Johnny Void – Yet another excellent post – summing all of it up very rightly in total truthfulness as you see it (and as do most ‘informed’ people also).
(By the way do not worry about the language – it certainly does not offend me!)
One of the biggest things that offended me was Nigel Farage saying “I want my country back!” – and then, when the Referendum result was announced, this total cunt saying “I’ve got my country back”!
I really believe that his words was the real trigger behind so many of the racist attacks upon so many ‘immigrant’ (including East-European) people in Britain.
Who the fuck does he really think that he is? – the (now resigned) ‘head’ of UKIP. For 17 years now, a self-proclaimed ‘saviour’ to ‘get Britain out of the European Union’), whilst going over to Brussels and getting goodness knows how much money from them for doing so (as an MEP).
He is and has been, a hyprocrite – (he even has a German wife!)
I only hope now that if he returns to Brussels next week, or whenever – he is told to smartly fuck off back to Britain.

    • paultheswineherd

Also, if Nigel Farage had not suggested having this ‘Referendum’ then Cameron probably would not have done it – but, he (Cameron) ‘promised’ to do it and to retain any credibility at all, to go through with it he had to do!
For once, Cameron truly stuck by his avowed promise and carried it through – the result came in – ‘LEAVE’ – and Cameron promptly resigned.
He of course does not want in any way to be involved in any of the ‘leaving’ negotiations. As you rightly say Johnny – this now leaves the incumbent Home Secretary (Theresa May) – a ‘remainer’ – up against a relative ‘newcomer’ in the form of a junior Tory Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom. (An ‘outer’). What happens next is anyone’s guess.
After all, it all now totally relies on the ‘Tory Membership’ comprising of between 125,000 & 150,000 (less than 1% of the total ‘electorate’) Tory stalwarts to ‘choose’ our next ‘new’ Prime Minister. (Aged mostly 50yrs and over – middle class and upwards and mostly living in the South East of England and the Home Counties).
It all now relies on ‘these’ people to eventually decide!
One thing is fairly certain however – the ‘poor’ and the ‘working poor’, as well as all claimants are unlikely to be looked after at all.
Their records are as follows: Theresa May – a right wing Minister who would dearly love to introduce an all encompassing ‘snoopers charter’ and Andrea Leadsom, – a supposed ‘family woman’ – who would like to look after and encourage ALL members of our society in Britain.
ALL THAT I HAVE TO SAY IS – NEVER TRUST A TORY – OR FOR THAT MATTER A BLAIRITE LABOUR M.M./MINISTER EITHER.
Our political system in Britain is broken and indeed, it is on the edge of anarchy – but with the way the ‘ordinary’ people are now – I am really afraid that they will not rise up (as in the 1970’s/1980’s) – a lot of them are sheep and total pussies – and will accept anything that the Government throws at them – with no questions asked.

      • paultheswineherd

Correction: Labour M.P./Minister either – most of them will stab their very own friends in the back for ‘POWER’. Michael Gove is a pure example of this!

      • If you don’t like the referendum result why don’t you move to Europe and get a job there seeing you like it so much?

        • paultheswineherd

Raining – Are the Tories really going to look after you – I don’t really think so!

          • And do you think Labour will? They’re the one’s that brought in Atos and the WCA that destroys people’s lives, not the tories. As i said red tory or blue tory in the end it makes no difference to me. I want to see a Labour party that stands up for it’s traditional beliefs and at least Corbyn is making a stand for that right now. That’s why the smug self satisfied Labour MP’s hate him for it and are moving heaven and earth to get rid of him..

            • Under Corbyn Labour has hardly ever polled better than the Tories no matter what kind of trouble they were in. If Corbyn had the potential to lead Labour to victory Labour should be well ahead of the Tories at this stage in the electoral cycle. (In fact no opposition which fails to be at least 20 points ahead of the governing party at some point during a parliament has ever gone on to form the next government.) Labour will not win under Corbyn; it is a statistical impossibility.I suppose the best you can hope for is that he will change the party and that somehow it will be returned to office in 2025, 2030, 2035 or later.

By then though will there be anything left to save or salvage?

            • Correct Raining, People like to forget that New Labour brought in the dreaded WCA, all the Tories have done is taken advantage of this fact to make life even worse for the sick and disabled.

              • But are things better after six years of Tory rule with the Bedroom Tax, Personal Independence Payment, ramped up Work Capability Assessment. Universal Credit farrago, Universal Jobmatch, infinitely harsher Sanctions regime, benefit caps, benefit freezes and benefit cuts, slow abolition of Tax Credits, demonisation of benefit claimants and so on and so forth coupled with huge gains made by the richest in society via Income Tax, Inheritance Tax and Corporation Tax cuts. New Labour wasn’t good but the Conservatives under Cameron have been diabolical.

So for me any kind of Labour government is better than any kind of Tory government, all things being equal. And now that we’re out of the EU and likely to end up a much poorer and less influential nation goodness knows where even more savings could be made without ruining millions of more lives.

I’d settle for getting rid of the Conservatives for now, whoever happens to be leader of the Labour party. Trouble is, statistically, Jeremy Corbyn has no chance of enabling this ti happen if he stays on as leader.

My suggestion for a workable compromise is that Jezza stays on for another two years and if Labour hasn’t made any significant progress under him that he stands down and lets somebody else take over in order to try to stop the Tories gaining a bigger majority.

        • Couldn’t agree more, the Remain brigade throughout the campaign (and particularly since) have really shown their utter inability to embrace democracy. The infantile nature of not getting their own way and wanting a 2nd referendum is absurd. However I’d suggest Uganda rather than Europe if they don’t like the UK post June 23rd as that really is a place where democracy is obsolete. You have to see the bigger picture of how powerful a statement voting to leave was and how many careers ended of those the usual suspects would normally be bitching about. You can’t have it both ways.

  8. Scotland has proved you can have a government delivering anti austerity policies within the EU. Westminster chose austerity.

    • paultheswineherd

deeko – yes and exactly so!
I will probably be ‘shot down’ by many ‘Scots’ saying that I am talking total bollocks – i.e. – Nicola Sturgeon is a ‘POWER’ politician who is only looking after her own ends. BUT – with our Tories in POWER nowadays – Nicola Sturgeon could not be in any way worse that what ‘we’ now have!
As I have said before – I only wish that Nicola Sturgeon was our Prime MInister. (Iris said – ‘are you mad’) I say to Iris – “you move to England and see what you end up with”! A mad and idealistically austerity Tory party – who would even sell their very own ‘parents’ and ‘grandparents’ into their own ‘austerity’ for a company profit. They are total bastards – make no mistake about that.

      • Well….I won’t shoot you down, but I will say do I disagree about Nicola Sturgeon. It is what is best for Scotland that motivates her, rather than what is best for her. That seems obvious to most ppl in Scotland, even those who disagree with some of her policies. And there are a few I don’t care much for. But as you say, she is certainly to be preferred to the out of touch things wanting to take over the New Nazi tory party!!

        • OK just to let people know that using the word nazi (and several others, but thats the one catching normal posters) in a post will send it to a moderation queue. This is temporary hopefully, due to an ongoing influx of far right spam.

    • Absolutely.

The uncomfortable truth is that Johnny Void is citing voter intention with a lack of empirical evidence.

I’d love to see where he got the data citing the reasons people voted as they did.

    • They’re only saying that though because they don’t have to implement the policy. If the SNP had total control over welfare spending and policy then i’m pretty sure you would see a different side to their two faces.

  9. I wondered when Class War was going to come out of the woodwork again! We need some more of those anti-nazi league “rock against racism” gigs we had in the early 80s. You are right. The Labour Party no longer represents the working classes. The angry youth were lost and fair game for grooming from the extreme right wing groups. It is going to get nasty before it gets better.

  10. Dissidentdiva

I wish we WERE “on the edge of anarchy” but like you say Paul, people just take what the Government throws at them. The leave vote was the first time for years – since the 80s? That something collective and positively anti- establishment has rocked the elite.
As JV says, we have an opportunity – how best to take it?

    • paultheswineherd

dd – Yes, I agree entirely – the days of ‘anarchy’ I very much fear are over.
The ‘people’, (all too afraid to lose their 0 hours contracts and their insecure jobs) – working all hours under the sun – to pay their rent and their mortgages, do not have the balls to stand up to the ‘politicians’. The media – the liars that they are are – have got most of the population within their grips, pandering to their ‘wishes’ – the Murdoch & the BBC media fully supporting the Tories aims and views. I, and many people in this day and age could be ‘out of a job’ tomorrow – but of course the Tories (and even Labour now!) do not care. Every man and woman for himself/herself from now on. And as for Andrea Leadsom – she has had children! – but Theresa May ‘has not had children’!

  11. I think we should elect government ministers directly, instead of letting MPs do the job. Reform democracy. Take our country back off the elites.

    • paultheswineherd

Jonny Morris – That is an excellent idea.
But, the only problem with this though is that the M.P. ‘elites’ would not in any way agree to this being done (even though they are ‘your’ elected representatives) – if they did, they would have too much POWER (and money and expenses!) to lose!

      • paultheswineherd

The whole ‘electoral’ system in Britain is in so much shite and disarray – the ‘ordinary’ people in Britain really have no say whatsoever.
Because of the ageing demographics, (unfortunately) the Tories have so much sway – too many middle and upper middle class voters – too many voters who are in the 50-55 yrs age group plus (private pensioners only) – unlike myself who has the terrible prospect of working now until my ‘minimum’ pension age of 66yrs (51 yrs now!)
        Fuck the lot of them.

        • paultheswineherd, I agree whole heartedly with your healthily cynical point of view. However there is one chain of events you may have overlooked…

I predict that once Scotland decides to do a bunk – and who could blame them – then the whole tottering edifice of the ‘UK’ will collapse into a steaming heap of bollocks. Len McClusky will declare himself King in the North. Dragons will escape from a cave in Snowdonia and start laying waste to the Midlands. London will declare itself translucent and float off into the ether, like the Hawkmen city in Flash Gordon… and everyone else will have to find a new way of doing things. Where it might just be possible to break from the current system. Or they might just re-instate the monarchy instead, who knows?

    • totally agree, ministers should be elected by people and the ones that are in positions of authority should have to apply for the role along with other potential candidates, they should be subject to a external interview process, be held accountable and have to justify there decisions instead of the whoops made a mistake, lets make a bigger one to cover the other one up syndrome, then they have to be put through to the vote, perhaps a your hired type competition followed by your fired if your totally useless, how many of them would survive in industry with the mistakes they make?

    • They tried something a bit like this in Zimbabwe. It didn’t work out too well.

    • In a country of sixty million how would you know who or what your were voting for unless they all had individual manifestos if you took party politics out of it? It’s unlikely you would know or have met any of the candidates. How could you pick one from another if they were standing on their own merits?

      • Strangely enough, it might not be as hard as it sounds. You can easily follow what our ‘political masters’ are up to these days. For instance, George Osbourne gave a stunning speech in autumn 2003, praising the Iraq war and condemning those ‘cowards’ who voted against it. The third paragraph is especially damning.

        http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2003-10-22.734.0

So how did such a totally callous fuckwit get to be Chancellor of the Exchequor? Simple. He knew about the pig and the offshore bank account, and who knows what else. Nothing else explains it. Does he have anything on Theresa May? We’ll soon find out.

Anyone could put up a manifesto on a blog and ‘run for office’. Jonny Void could do it here! I’d vote for him, based on his fluency with expletives. It could be useful if he was Minister for Culture, swearing being a bit of an art form. Maybe not as Minister for Health though, since then he’d be in charge of the NHS, and every hospital in the country. He’d probably need more than being really good at swearing for that.

Although he’d probably still be better than Jeremy fucking Hunt.

Set up an online petition site to vote for your favourite would-be minister. You could do it so you have to log in with your real name and postcode, which could be verified by sending out a password in the post, to the name at that address on the electoral role, for the price of a few quid, paid by the user. It’d be secure enough to get a rough estimate of who’s the most popular.

It’d be wise to find out the real name, photo and career history of someone before you voted for them, if you’re doing it for real.

You could even set up an alternative shadow cabinet, to replace the one that just recently went missing. A £10,000 salary for 20 candidates would be £200,000 a year, which is peanuts for big political donors. The alternative shadow cabinet ministers could spend all day analysing everything the government minsters do, and moaning about it.

If nothing else it’d publicise a different way of doing things.

Really it’s just a re-hash on the political press, Internet style. It might even work!

        • paultheswineherd

Jonny Morris – excellent post. (I’ve only just found it!)
And yes, I would definitely vote for Johnny Void for being the new ‘Health Secretary’ in Theresa May’s lash-up of a Government.
He would sack Jeremy Cunt and look after all of the patients in the N.H.S.
(as is normal in any Health Secretary), he would be totally independent of any of their needs – from the youngest ‘babies’ to the very oldest ‘OAP’s’ with their frail, complex and often ‘life-threatening’ needs – Johnny would look after them all – and make sure that any of the remaining ‘Old-Boy- Network was sacked – if only due to their all encompassing need for money, expenses and not least, the POWER of their Government positions!

  12. “thinking difficult thoughts and recognising that having concerns about immigration policies, at a time of savage austerity does not mean someone is automatically a closet nazi or swivel-eyed extremist”, of course, but it makes me wonder about your commitment to class solidarity with working class immigrants…. I’ll get my coat (and my latte to sip, because evidently I’m one of those soft southern ‘no borders’ anarchists) and be on my way!

  13. Dissidentdiva

A bit of nostalgia for you paul.

    • paultheswineherd

dd – Yes, thank you for that – brilliant – and it really sums it all up. I was very young at the time, but I can just remember The Kinks!

  14. Void you are an idiot. I lost all respect for you when you started the four letter words in your column titles. There’s no need to stoop to that as it makes you look like an uneducated thug and we have more than enough of them. Then to compound it you come away with that nonsense about Farage. The man fought for what he believed in and that’s the whole sum and substance behind it. You truly need to get a grip.

    • paultheswineherd

Raining – You are the one that needs to get a grip my friend.
Johnny Void (swearing or not!) has made his views known – and these views cannot in any way be disputed – either by yourself, or anyone else for that matter.
Nigel Farage has, by his own actions, created (through Cameron also) a ‘Little England’ mentality – “I want my Country back!” and “I have got my Country back”.
Nigel Farage has gone and ‘sat’ in the European Parliament for 17 years now – and whilst trying to get Britain out of the E.U. – this man, hypocritically has taken in his ‘expenses’ of goodness knows how many millions of ‘Euros’? from this organisation.
Is this really the sort of Britain that you want to live in.
If Nigel Farage had any integrity at all over all of these years, he would have ‘fought for what he believed in’, created the UKIP and stayed in Britain. He would not have gone and taken ‘millions’ in E.U. expenses for all those many years. The man is a total sham – he has now shown that by ‘resigning’ (again) from UKIP.

      • I do understand the idea of UKIP going into Euro elections, after all, it is a political party and wants to gain votes and ground. However, what has been unedifying is the manner these idiots have gone about it in the European Parliament. Also, if he thinks he has succeeded, surely he would resign from his MEP post now? After all, he has what he wanted! UKIP are now going the way of the tory party, and before long, I doubt there will much of it left to bother with. as there will be no more EU Parliament elections….that’s them more or less stuffed!

      • I beg to differ as i come from Scotland and wanted out of the EU along with another 40% of my fellow countrymen. How does that stack up to your idiotic ‘Little Englander’ slight against Farage? Your insult doesn’t seem to hold any water does it. As for your moronic statement about Farage attending the EU for 17 years: Yes and what? He had to be a member of the EU to learn first hand about the shambles it is and to build up an opposition to it. He wasn’t going to be able to do that by being a member of Labour or the Tories.

You clearly don’t have a semblance of a brain cell.

    • Dissidentdiva

Johnny knows and gives us the truth – sometimes the truth makes us angry and we fucking swear.

      johnny – for you.

      • It makes him sound like an uneducated thug and that inevitably turns reasonable minded people off and leads to people not taking him seriously. No need for him putting swear words all over his posts it’s a sign either of a lack of intelligence, or a lack of vocabulary, or both.

        • Farage is a cunt, plain and simple. If that is the view Johnny Void has, what do you expect him to say? Wanker, tosser, arsehole, bastard, cretin, imbecile, fuckwit…. is that enough of a vocabulary for you? And your defence of him is ‘he fought for what he believed in’… is that your defence for the far right scum that have come crawling out of the woodwork since the referendum result as well?

          • No he’s not actually. You may dislike him but to say that is just beneath contempt and puts you in the gutter. As for the far right scum you mention: they’ve got nothing to do with Farage, who as far as i’ve seen has conducted himself with decency and dignity throughout the campaign. If they choose to act like morons and thugs then let the police deal with them..

            • I think Farage is worse than a cunt.

I well remember him saying awful things and whipping up hatred to wards foreigners, whether it was saying that we should stop refugees entering the country because they might bring in AIDS, or that we should only take Christians because anybody Muslim (man, woman, child or baby) were threats in respect to terrorism, to sucking up and affiliating UKIP with the Europe of Freedom and Democracy group in the European Parliament, which Farage chaired. adn whose founder, Umberto Bossi, once called for illegal immigrants to be shot – shit!… the list of Farage’s perniciousness, nastiness and idiocy goes on and on. He whipped up fear, hate and xenophobia in respect to the other, spread suspicion, repulsion and fear through certain sections of society like some sort of Typhoid Mary, while at the same time cashing in personally, institutionally, and shamelessly, hand over fist, as far as EU funding went.

              http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/apr/29/10-good-reasons-not-vote-ukip-nigel-farage-europe

When it turns out that leaving the EU fails to make Britain better, fails to stop immigration, fails to grow the economy and makes everything generally, especially for the poor, people will turn on Farage and ask him why he lied and was so wrong about everything. And do you know what he will say?

“Well, you didn’t have to believe me and do my bidding did you, suckers.”

FARAGE IS A MALICIOUS LYING DELUSIONAL CUNT!

Thank God the freak is now simply a stain on Britain’s political history.

              • What a negative horrible wee man you are. Have you not even considered the chance that this might be a great chance for the UK to flourish outside the EU instead of being imprisoned in it?

                • Raining, what the fuck has happened to you? You support Farage The Shitcunt? Did you do some dodgy acid or something?

                • Lex: No i don’t support Farage. I dislike his policies regarding nearly everything but i just don’t like calling him the C word. Seems kind of low and horrible and uncalled for. Plus at the end of the day what has it accomplished Void coming away with that? Nothing really, as no one would listen seriously to anything he’s got to say when he writes posts like that. People just think it’s a moron writing the blog and dismiss anything he’s got to say.

        • Swearing is an abortive attempt of the brain to express itself😉 Fuck it!😀

        • Uneducated Thug

@ Raining… how do you know JV ain’t an “uneducated thug”? Innit?

      • SIR Paul fucking McCartney

You fucking beat me to posting this, dissidentdiva😀 Even the mighty John Lennon swore when he was fucking angry😀

    • He’s a cunt, come on.

    • No one is going to agree with any article JV does 100%. Surely we are all old enough to have learned that we all have different ideas and opinions. He is hardly any more of an idiot than you, me and the general public at large. However if you read through what he says ignoring the four letter words you would have to admit he is stating facts. Nigel Farage has created an image of himself that he knows appeals to the lowest common denominator. “Down the pub, fag and a drink, man of the people”. It doesn’t automatically make him what he claims to be. But everyone will have a different opinion of him. All politicians apart from a small minority create an image or public persona to garner votes. Politics is not an honest profession at the best of times. I have no personal beef with Farage but can see through the surface veneer quite easily.

      • Buying into Farage’s “down the pub, fag and a drink, man of the people” image is about as nonsensical as believing George Osborne is a Bob the Builder -type because he is often seen on building sites wearing a bright-yellow tabard and hard hat😀

        • Can he fix it? No, he can’t.

        • Yea. The privately educated son of a stockbroker slumming it trying to show that he could mix with the great unwashed. What a phony cunt!

          • You need your mouth washed out you lowlife ignoramus. That’s your dumb perception of what Farage was doing. Anyone with half a brain cell could see he wasn’t doing anything of the sort. Is it only working class people living on council estates that like to go to the pub and have a drink ?

            • That’s a bit of an over reaction don’t you think? So anyone who disagrees with you is a lowlife ignoramus, has half a brain cell and is dumb. Look out folks the ego has landed. Never mind Martinn your opinion obviously doesn’t count with some people. Ha! Ha!

              • It’s not over reaction it’s just a simple fact. Using foul language to demean someone is just a sad low way to carry on and says more about the user of that language than anything else. Especially when it’s done by the writer of the blog. That puts most reasonable minded people off and they think “God listen to that ignorant thug!” You might disagree with Farage and i disagree with just about everything he supports politically. But that doesn’t mean you need to resort to being in the gutter.

                • TruthTeller

But some people might think you are ignorant! On the whole if you ignore JVs swearing the basics of his piece were on the whole correct. There’s not a lot of difference between using four letter words and calling someone “a lowlife ignoramus, has half a brain cell and is dumb”. Are you really that blind to your own shortcomings that you don’t see that? If you can’t see it maybe your actually in the gutter with those you rail against.

                • Maybe you’re right, i have plenty of shortcomings. But demeaning someone with foul language is not one of them. Plus i don’t write this blog. And i’m using ordinary language as i point out the repulsive ignorance of people who are reduced to insulting someone with four letter words because they have nothing else to say worth listening to. To add to the fact i’ve already mentioned do you think that’s a justifiable and decent way for the writer of a blog to behave? If it is why don’t the BBC and all the daily newspapers allow their writers to slash obscenities through all their columns? Answer? Because most decent people find it a bit repellant and disgusting.

                • ffs Raining, maybe JV just ran out of fucking adjectives (‘describing’ words)

            • Lot’s of people think like me and would agree with me that Farage is a cunt. If you don’t like it and remain out of step you should fuck off abroad to another country populated with people of like mind. I suggest North Korea. Bye.

              • See what i mean Truthteller about this oaf above?

                • Just copying you. Although I only want you to fuck off out of the country not 48% of the population which voted remain and loathe the result of the EU referendum – an outcome achieved only because of a campaign of lies.

Didn’t you yourself suggest that CraigR sling his hook because he had regrets about leaving the EU?

“So you don’t believe in your own nation and it’s abilities to run it’s own affairs? Then arrange a job in the EU and pack up lock stock and barrel and move there. The UK doesn’t need your kind of negativity at this juncture.”

Well, I’ll be buggered, it appears that you did.

So you don’t think Nigel Farage is a cunt who turned the EU referendum into a feeding frenzy in respect to foreigners and immigrant labour? Then arrange a job in North Korea and pack up lock stock and barrel and move there. The UK doesn’t need your kind of psychopathy at this juncture.

                  Tee-hee.

                  What a bozo.

                • You are a lowlife ignoramus and your use of foul language says everything about you and your lack of decency and self esteem. You are a disgrace and should be completely ashamed of yourself. But i know you won’t be as you have to have some morals to feel ashamed. Something you clearly don’t have.

          • Well whatever I am at least I know that the first-person singular nominative case personal pronoun “I” should be capitalised and not written as a lower case “i”. Which is something you seem ignorant of. Off you toddle now. North Korea needs well educated and measured individuals like you as much as the United Kingdom doesn’t. Toodles. Mind the door doesn’t break your arse as it slams shut behind you on your way out. Ha, ha, ha.

        • The trouble is the people do buy that image and I have heard that stated by people I have spoken to. Sad as that might be!

“HOW THE DWP RECATEGORISE CLAIMANT ERROR TO FRAUD IN AN EFFORT TO SEX UP BENEFIT LOSSES”

………………..How the internal crooks cook the books

The document is stating: We changed the way we categorise overpayments after 2013/14. This change in methodology means some overpayments have switched to being categorised as fraud rather than claimant error. This is driving recent trends: fraud is now at its highest recorded rate; claimant error is at its lowest recorded rate.

I would like to know which category(ies) of claimant’s error have been recategorised as fraud.
If that does not apply to Abroad Fraud overpayments, I would like to know which action DWP has taken which has led to an increase from £3m to £27m in ESA fraud

“DWP STILL HIDING REPORTS OF THOSE THEY KILLED”

Black Triangle Anti-Defamation Campaign in Defence of Disability Rights
    7 July at 13:16 ·

‘The ‪#‎DWP‬ is delaying the release of benefit ‪#‎deaths‬ reports (again): There has been a continuing battle to get the Department for Work and Pensions to disclose details of secret investigations into the suicides and other deaths of benefit claimants. It took nearly two years for them to publish information about 49 benefit claimants losing their lives. Now it’s emerged that ministers are yet again delaying the release of nine such secret reviews.’

A response to a freedom of information request by Disability News Service was completed by the DWP at the end of May, but DNS reports that the documents have still not been released.

Notably, this comes in light of calls for the Brexiter and former work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith to face a criminal investigation, after his failure to act on a coroner’s concerns about the safety of the now notorious fit-for-work tests.

While we look one way, there is plenty to be vigilant about elsewhere. Don’t let them get away with it.

” STEPHEN CRABB, FATHER OF TWO, CURER OF HOMOSEXUALS AND A SEX FIEND”…………………
Tory leadership candidate and family values man Stephen Crabb sent young woman ‘sex messages’

…………………..A married Government minister who based his failed Tory leadership bid on strong family values sent sexually charged messages to a young woman.

Stephen Crabb, 43, a devout Christian and father of two – who withdrew from the Conservative leadership race this week – engaged in a series of flirtatious and sexually explicit exchanges with the young woman during the run up to the EU referendum.

In one late-night exchange last month Mr Crabb, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, allegedly told her he wanted to kiss her “everywhere” and asked her to call him.

It is also claimed described a sex act he wanted to perform, prompting the young woman to ask what he was going to do about “your downstairs situation?”.

But the Prime Minister defended Mr Crabb, saying he should not be forced to resign over what was a “private matter”.

THIS PERVERT WAS PUT FORWARD AS A LEADERSHIP CONTENDER?

    • I think Crabb’s heterosexuality needs curing or at least curbing considering he’s a married man who supposedly lives his life by Christian principles, which don’t, as far as I know, include pursuit of young women outside of wedlock. Odd isn’t it? Nearly all of these “religious” and “moral” wankers turn out to be more phony, cruel and rotten than non-pretentious often non-religious people.

      • Sorry Martinn, that’s a gross generalisation. I suggest a visit to a Benedictine Monastery would be good for you. The Monks there are not like any of your descriptions. Oh, and I am not Catholic either! There are plenty of non religious, immoral wankers who are mostly phoneys too if you cared to look properly and take those blinkers off.

        • Actually, although I didn’t make it explicit, I meant supposedly religious politicians who pretend to be compassionate and sympathetic to the underdog while doing terrible things politically to the selfsame people. Examples of such people would include Margaret Thatcher (persecutor of the poor, jobless and disadvantaged), Iain Duncan Smith (impoverisher of benefit claimants and dispatcher of the sick and disabled), Tony Blair (brazen liar and warmonger) and now dinky little Stephen Crabb (champion of the moral majority by day and apparent lecher when off duty) all of whom claim(ed) to be devout practising Christians while doing awful things, by choice, while pursing political careers.

          Phonies and tossers all.

    • A non story IMO, just a piece of garbage to “big up” Crabb to be one of the boys, also to deflect his connections with homosexuality.

Wait!!! what`s this in this article …Brooks Newmark, the MP who claimed sexting and other related sexual antics.
      CURED HIS DEPRESSION.
Just what till you have your next WCA, having sex will cure your disability.
Straight out of Sigmund Freud`s Tavistock.

  18. There is a call for an uprising in this country, in fact your owners demand it to further their agenda.

    • Don’t leave it there, sage – what further foul agenda is this?

      • As we know, peaceful protests do not work any more, no matter how many thousands attend.
However a violent revolution would play right into their hands, one only has to look at France and America to see the game being played out.
What an opportunity for the bloodlines to take our rights away to protect the good and obedient citizens from the scum, who dare call out the government.

If a revolution does not happen soon, then expect rent a mob to start one.

        • The sage – yes. makes sense. Riots and civil disobedience on a grand scale will give gov. more ‘reasons’ to further erode our freedoms and rights – although that is happening anyway, with low paid, part time and 0hours contract workers being in the stranglehold of UC with its stringent and cruel conditionality.
          Big Bro writ large.

    • Pray, do tell🙂

  19. I was depressed when I woke up this morning but this article has given me a boost. JV states it just how it is. Living in an affluent part of the South East of England as I do, makes it particularly hard for me. I get very despondent at times living in the heart of the “I’m alright Jack” society. But even here homelessness is increasing fast as benefit cuts destroy peoples lives whilst the rich increasingly live behind gated communities to shield their wicked eyes from the suffering they have caused. It’s a very sad state of affairs.

  20. This is all of what I think and mostly why I voted, but have never been able to get across so succinctly, so was good to be able to share it. Hoping now that there will be some understanding to offset the vitriol.

  21. The ANGRY Family

An Apology on Behalf of the ANGRY Family:

We were fucking angry when we posted comments in the early aftermath of the referendum and we’re sorry if we offended anyone.

  22. How will being out of the EU be better for the working class. It looks more to me as if the EU protected workers and the poor through its work directives, e.g., no one can be made to work for more than 48 hours a week, social regulation and extension of human rights to individuals, all of which will now be torn up by a free-market mad Tory party and replaced with something that favours their principles, putting power back into the hands of landlords and employers and robbing it from citizens hand over fist.

Economically the country looks set to be worse off economically, already slipping to sixth place in the GDP league with France overtaking us, so expect many more welfare cuts and attacks against state support to the poor and struggling.

I invite any Brexiter to explain to me how leaving the EU will benefit British working class people? And don’t tell lies, e.g., hundreds of millions a week will be repatriated to spend on the NHS.

With Labour about to split, which put the party out of power for eighteen years, leaving the EU looks like we’re doomed to Conservative government indefinitely with all of the cruelty, injustice, pain and misery associated with such administrations.

Leaving the EU, as far as I’m concerned, will be a disaster for Britain’s poor and suffering. And I’m not a pampered member of the middle classes saying so or who voted to remain in hope of a better future.

    • Thanks God for some sense here Iris. Yes there is a lot wrong with the EU but anyone who thinks we are going to better off is deluded. It’s not a victory for the working class. They’ve been shit on forever and that won’t change. Well done sticking it to the man but why wreck the country whilst doing it? I can see nothing good coming out of this. Although I had a degree of sympathy for those who thought getting rid of a neo-liberal elite structure was a good thing we haven’t got anything to put in its place. Tory rule forever? Well done chaps.

      • Well you were going to have tory rule forever anyway. Whether that was blue tory or red tory was the only question. And unless Corbyn can rid the Labour Party of all those careerist red tories then there will never be any change. And do you have no faith in your own country to run it’s own affairs? That’s a pretty sad EU poseur outlook.

        • Corbyn has/will make the Labour party unelectable in which case it won’t matter what it stands for. Corbyn’s victory is pyrrhic. Apart for a few occassions, when Labour moved a point or two ahead of the Tories, the Conservatives have always been ahead of Labour no matter what. And Labour could split! Which, when it happened in 1981, when the “gang of four” left the party to found the SDP (which later fused with the Liberals) Labour remained out of power for 18 years.

Corbyn and his acolytes could spell Labour’s doom.

          • But it was unelectable under Miliband! You really think Angela Eagle is a better leader for the party than Corbyn? I’ve got news for you; Labour under Eagle wouldn’t have a cats chance in hell of winning an election but would undoubtedly undermine their credibility as far as the rank and file are concerned by trying to return to their tory-lite guise that has been exposed these past months/years..

            • I think almost anybody would be better than Corbyn and give Labour a better chance of, at least, robbing the Tories of their wafer thin majority which would make it harder for them to pursue a full-blooded right-wing agenda. I can’t see Labour winning again under anybody in the foreseeable future to be honest but least of all under Jeremy Corbyn who couldn’t persuade Labour voters to vote remain and certainly won’t persuade non-affiliated uncommitted voters to get him into Downing Street. The real danger is a full split of Labour into two parties vying for the same constituency and quite possibly going extinct in the process.

Even Jezza doesn’t pretend he wants, or is fit, to be Prime Minister.

              • And yet under Corbyn the party has won by-elections plus the London Mayor’s position? Instead of rallying behind their elected leader and holding the tories to account, these self serving MP’s have wasted their time plotting a coup against one of the only true Labour politicians left. The rank and file will never forgive the plotters for that.

                • Labour won the London Mayoral race DESPITE Jeremy Corbyn! Sadiq Kahn cannot abide the man and distanced himself from Corbyn during his campaign.

                  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/07/sadiq-khan-attacks-jeremy-corbyn-hours-after-winning-london-mayo/

                  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36201884

Labour has only held onto seats in by-elections that it already won during the general election in 2015. The party hasn’t yet taken a single seat in a by-election from another party yet and lost councillors in the recent council elections. The party isn’t making any headway at all only standing still.

There is no reason why Corbyn shouldn’t remain leader if members want it. The party has lost two general elections already in the past. Why not go for the hat trick with Jezza? And after that: what, where and with who?

                • But that’s not the point Tim. The point is if Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership was as bad as you and the backstabbing red tories are making out then the Labour vote would have collapsed in the London Mayor’s position and the by-elections that have been held since he took over the reins in protest. I can’t remember the figures but i’m sure the margin for victory in the by-elections actually increased.

              • Nope. You’re wrong. There will always be a reservoir of loyal Labour supporters who will always vote Labour come what may. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always supportive of the party. However, under first-past-the-post electoral system, with several parties vying for power, it is very unlikely that any one party can win a majority based on votes received from its own supporters alone. The vote in London was quite different from any vote nationally (due to the capital’s varied and cosmopolitan electorate), Kahn’s personal appeal as the “decent guy”, and disapproval of Zac Goldsmith’s disgracefully racist campaign. You are correct about by-elections in the sense that Labour did increase it’s majority in (already Labour held) seats it won – a bit – but looking at more widely it is obvious that Labour is getting nowhere as far as positioning itself as a potential party of government is concerned, continuing to remain significantly behind the Tories in pretty much every poll taken since Corbyn became leader.

At the same point in Ed Miliband’s leader ship, i.e., about nine months in, Labour was generally five or more points AHEAD of the Conservatives.

Corbyn is in reality doing badly as far as the general voter is concerned.

This wouldn’t be the case if, as you seem to believe, Labour were on the road back to power. I really don’t know how this is going to play out but as things stand Labour not only won’t get back into power at the next general election but may have even fewer MPs representing the party in parliament from 2020 onwards. In less than four years we will know which of us was correct.

                • Martinn said: At the same point in Ed Miliband’s leader ship, i.e., about nine months in, Labour was generally five or more points AHEAD of the Conservatives.

And look how that one turned out Martinn!

      • You would have thought that looking at the line up of the most committed Brexiters would have given the game away as per their agenda. All of them were ultra dry-as-dust right-wingers: Iain Duncan Smith, Preeti Patel, Christopher Grayling, John Whittingdale, Bernard Jenkin, Peter Lilley, Nigel Farage – all head-bangers far to the right, politically, of Atilla the Hun. With people like this championing Brexit how could anybody, even for a moment, have though that the Britain they wanted would be in the least bit better for working class people.

Sometimes I think that the country has gone mad.

It is the working class who will suffer most of all when we leave the EU.

  23. If Osborne and Cameron had suggested Leave I would have voted Stay.
I was adamant that, whatever way they stood, I would have voted the opposite and I did. This was the same for Labour. It made me sick to the core watching Tory smug faces and Labour standing by their side. My vote was purely to cause chaos and it has. Halleue !!!!!!

    • paultheswineherd

Bernadette H – I am sure that a lot of the voting in the referendum was strategic as well – very many of them wanted to get rid of Cameron and if ‘Leave’ won, then Cameron would have had to have gone! And he did!
Even before the referendum it was said on TV that this could happen – and it did!

    • That’s kind of crazy and reminds me about the story of the scorpion and the frog.

Scorpion meets a frog beside a river and asks the frog to carry it to the other side. Frog say no because the scorpion would only sting and kill it. Scorpion says that it wouldn’t be able to do such a thing while crossing the river because if it did both scorpion and frog would drown as a result. Frog thinks about it for a moment, decides it makes sense, jumps in the river and allows the scorpion to hop on its back. Half way across the river the scorpion stings the frog. As they both begin to drown the frog looks up and asks the scorpion why it stung him dooming them both to a watery grave. Scorpion replies that it hated frogs and couldn’t help itself because stinging things was fundamental to its nature. Both animals die. The end.

I hope you don’t drown because of your decision Bernadette H.

      • @Tim, It is called having nothing else to lose. Besides, a tiny Island surrounded by the sea, I am not carrying anyone anywhere. As Paul has stated, a strategic plan to bring the Tories down. Hopefully, they will drown. But I get the gist. Thanks for the warning.

  24. comply or die

    From ‘another’ forum:

“I wish they would just retire people like us on health grounds and concentrate on the fitter people who can manage and allow us to do some voluntary work if we are able to manage it. That`s how the system SHOULD work, but it`s one rule for everyone.”

Just how fucking annoying are these selfish cunts (on ESA) with their fucking ‘Do it to Julia’ attitude. Enough to make your fucking blood boil! And “voluntary work”, yeah sure, you lying cunt!

    • Dear comply or die
What do you propose should happen to those who are permanently unfit to work?
      Only asking,

      • Do It To Julia

Don’t pretend you are fucking stupid, Bernadette. comply or die isn’t taking about claimants in a vegetative state or coma. They are talking about those cunts on ESA who want to be left alone to collect their ESA – they don’t want any ‘help or support’ from the jobcentre to get them back to work, but at the same time they want JSA claimants to be harassed to death: ” concentrate on the fitter people ” i.e. JSA claimants! Do it to fucking Julia! Like the character in George Orwell’s “1984”. What an utter, utter fucking CUNT!

        • @ Do It To Julia, Hang on a minuet; comply or die’s post was not initially clear to me. Big deal. Besides, he could have show the source of the post to make it clear.
And, don’t assume that we have all read 1984, well not all of it anyway. As for ESA claimants who don’t want to work or cannot work, I don’t give a shite. Let’s not fall into divide and rule.

        • And, by the way, Tim, stop using a pseudonym. It’s not big and it’s not clever. How are your?

“HOW THE DWP ROBBED THE POOR AND DISABLED OF £I.8 BILLION”

………IF THE DEAD COULD ONLY TALK

Struggling families were underpaid vital benefits by bunging officials last year to the tune of a staggering £1.8billion.

Blunders at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) saw benefit underpayments soar to an all-time high, the National Audit Office found.

The estimated 2015/16 figure of £1.8billion equates to 1% of all benefit spending – and is up from £1.4billion in the previous year.

NAO chief Sir Amyas Morse, announced he could not sign off the DWP accounts because of the levels of fraud and error.

“MAXIMUS IS A WALL STREET CORPORATION DEVOID OF ANY HUMANITY”

    ……………Whistleblower says

Directors of the controversial American company whose UK subsidiary implements Government ‘fit-for-work’ tests “offloaded millions of pounds worth of shares” ahead of revelations that the company is performing badly, a whistleblower alleges.

He claims executives, including the President and CEO of Maximus Inc, sold over £7.9million in shares ahead of revelations the company is performing even worse than the previous firm to take the role, ATOS.

This week, the former senior PR manager, who worked for Maximus’s UK subsidiary the Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA), filed a complaint to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

He claims that “directors knew of serious problems just months into the contract and still sold millions of pounds worth of shares”.

Maximus says the directors of the Virginia-based company – which operates government contracts all over the globe – traded in line with regulations and they have not received a complaint from the SEC.

The former local government official claims he was fired by CHDA after raising concerns about spending on PR.

He added: “Maximus is a brutal, Wall Street corporation devoid of any humanity and only interested in the US share price.”

…………………Meanwhile the embarrassed DWP continue to hide the reasons for claimant suicides, petrified of the most costly lawsuit in British history…………….

“2ND CLASS PENSIONS FOR UNIVERSAL CREDIT RECIPIENTS”

    From: Del

    Delivered 9 July 2016

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Unemployed citizens in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance also receive Class 1 National Contributions for the duration of their unemployment, maintaining their entitlement to the full old age pension. I have been told that Universal Credit claimants only receive Class 3 National Insurance payments when between jobs, meaning that Universal Credit claimants could well end up retiring on a lower pension than Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants for similar periods of joblessness.

    Is this true?

If it is true why should Universal Credit, a benefit which is supposed to parallel receipt of income via employment, doom its claimant to a lower pension after retirement than was the case under Jobseeker’s Allowance all other things being equal?

    Yours faithfully,

    Stephen Toy

  28. The governance of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland should be reinvented within a new voluntary union in a bid to save the UK from disintegration, an independent all-party group of experts will argue this week.

The Constitution Reform Group, convened by former Conservative cabinet minister Lord Salisbury, is to make the the case for radical constitutional change in the UK by claiming the need has been boosted by the vote to leave the European Union.

Their proposals say the existing union should be replaced with fully devolved government in each part of the UK, with each given full sovereignty over its own affairs. The Westminster parliament, the group says, should then be reduced to 146 MPs. The individual nations and regions of the UK would then be encouraged to pool sovereignty to cover the matters they wish to be dealt with on a shared basis.

  31. Al bin to Etongasworks

I enjoyed the article which I followed from a link from the Class War Page. I guess they will call you a racist, and you might note that the current class war line is that race supersedes class, and to maintain that class divisions are fundamental is racist. What we need now, more than ever, is a class based movement that opposes racism, but recognises that working people have to stand up because there is no movement on their side

  34. Santa Hates You

JV – You don’t have to apologise for feeling angry as I enjoyed your post. You speak about the true reality of everyday life in this shitty class divided country better than most people I know.

My real concern now JV is about the Tory agenda to flush our human rights legal protection down the toilet. With Brexit, both Tory leadership contenders have already committed themselves to doing this which of course will impact on the most vulnerable and poorest in our society.

I expect a watered down version of the human rights act to be on the books once Article 50 is declared. Of course, anything the Tories decide on will protect those with wealth the most at the expense of the poor. After six years of Tory rule I’m surprised at nothing these bastards will do to protect vested interests and the rich.

Class war as never been so obvious as it is in politics today.

  35. For all their concerns with global competitiveness, migration and terrorism, only one prospect truly terrifies the Powers of Europe: Democracy!

They speak in democracy’s name but only to deny, exorcise and suppress it in practice. They seek to co-opt, evade, corrupt, mystify, usurp and manipulate democracy in order to break its energy and arrest its possibilities. For rule by Europe’s peoples, government by the demos, is their nightmare.

The European Union could have been the proverbial Beacon on the Hill, showing the world how peace and solidarity may be snatched from the jaws of centuries-long conflict and bigotry. Alas, today, a common bureaucracy and a common currency divide European peoples that were beginning to unite despite our different languages and cultures.

Now, today, Europeans are feeling let down by EU institutions everywhere. From Helsinki to Lisbon, from Dublin to Crete, from Leipzig to Aberdeen. A stark choice is approaching fast. The choice between authentic democracy and insidious disintegration.

At the heart of our disintegrating EU there lies a guilty deceit: A highly political, top-down, opaque decision-making process is presented as ‘apolitical’, ‘technical’, ‘procedural’ and ‘neutral’. Its purpose is to prevent Europeans from exercising democratic control over their money, communities, working conditions and environment.

The more they asphyxiate democracy, the less legitimate their political authority becomes, the stronger the forces of economic recession, and the greater their need for further authoritarianism

    https://diem25.org/manifesto-short-version/

    • Democracy is to impose a life changing decision on many people that did not even have a say (eg. migrants or young people) by misinformation and misleading. And to impose that decision in an irresponsible way without planning absolutely nothing.

Many of you have no fucking clue of the meaning of the word democracy.

      • Why should migrants have a say in the running of the UK? Undoubtedly you’re all going back to your own country at some point so that would be a stupid thing to do. You’re not a UK citizen and you never will be.

And don’t be cursing on this blog you empty headed moron.

  36. Yes, sure you call for solidarity with immigrants… And still show none at all. As an immigrant I feel disgusted by a message that puts English worker class over the rest of european workers.

Me and many of my friends flew into the UK in a cheap Ryanair flight with all our savings when austerity hit our countries and we could not find a job or afford paying basic stuff in our countries. We came here, started working (not cashing benefits, ffs, no one leaves his or her home country just because benefits, and that you even insinuate that immigrants care about benefits is laughable to say the least), paying taxes, building communities and started to build some savings. Some brought their families, and so and so.

You know how was this possible? Thanks to the fucking European Union. Yes, a Union that has a lot of terrible things (as does the UK government), but which still enabled many of us to seek a better life in a different country without the need of a visa, or even a passport as EEA cards are enough, and on flights that were cheaper than train tickets.

Now we are living in uncertainty, the pounds we saved or exchanged from euros are worth less than ever, many of us don’t know how long we will be able to keep our jobs for, many others don’t know if they will be able to bring their families anymore when they have enough savings to do so. All of us will lose some (and more likely many) rights sooner or later.

But hey, English people cashing JSA cannot fly to other European countries because they do not have the money!! If you really think that the European migrants that came here are precisely rich you prove exactly my point: you are completely ignorant of the different European migrant communities. Many of us came here with just the money to be able to rent a room for a couple of months, a Ryanair flight and a second Ryanair flight to go back home if things turned south. Found any job and started improving from there.

I have not met one European immigrant in the UK that supported Brexit, not one. A process that happened from the right wing, by the right wing and supported by every single fascist. A process for which no one ever had or will have a plan to ensure we do not lose a single of the rights the EU grants us.

You want to show solidarity towards us? Stop your rhetoric in which the English “working class” (or not so working) is more important than the working class from other countries. Start building a climate in which despite Brexit we will not lose any of the rights we currently have.

But yes, I guess then that would not fit in your idealist views and our real problems are not worth enough considering as they do not affect you. Meanwhile, we, the migrants, will move on and try to thrive working wherever we can and wherever we have more chances to do so.

Please, at least have the decency to not to proclaim yourself as our voice.

    • Santa Hates You

Molotov – Yes, Brexit, has I’m sure you are aware, has changed everything for the future for immigrants in this country. Equally and unfortunately it will fuel the rise of extreme fascism too. Today I saw some hate crime graffiti on a wall against immigrants which looks to be the work of some far right group. It was signed off with a cross within a circle.

Since the Brexit vote hate crime against immigrants has gone up by at least 30% in some areas. Hate like this has a way of ruining everything in a tolerant society.

    • Right on Molotov. I am disgusted by our vote to leave. A vote to leave has given justification for the the far right to propagate their hate agenda. This is no victory for the working class (sorry JV, I usually agree with you but this time you are wrong) it was a protest vote that did not work. This country is fucked unless the Labour party can stop their infighting (although I still think we’re fucked if we leave the EU). Tell us JV what are you intending to replace the subsidies to replace those currently given to farmers, scientists, inner city deprivation.

      • So molotov “Thanks to the fucking European Union. Yes, a Union that has a lot of terrible things (as does the UK government), but which still enabled many of us to seek a better life in a different country without the need of a visa”
So which country do you suggest the “english working class” (which you give the impression you despise) fly to (once they have basically just spent an entire giro just to get a fucking passport) to seek a better life? Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, any of those stand out.
People will always tend to gravitate to where (they think) life is going to be better and richer.
All we see is an updated eu version of the saying “London streets are paved with gold” from Dick Whittington.

      • CraigR an answer to your question where will the subsidies come from now we are leaving the EU. In 2015 we paid in to the EU £19.1 Billion and we received back £9.2 billion in grants and subsidies. These figures have varied over the years. In 2015 it meant that for every £2 we gave them we received £1 back however in 2008 we received £1.45 back for every £2 we put in. 2013 was different again we received back £0.45 for every £2 we put in. So you can work it out for yourself that those subsidies can be covered now we are coming out of the EU, but with the Tories handling the cash it will not be coming the way of the poor, sick or unemployed. More likely to go for tax cuts for business and the rich donors to the party. These figures can be obtained by google searching for the EU’s pink book where these things are recorded.

        • And in addition to the facts just stated, if anyone would like to know why we received less back that we paid in to the EU. The whole system was meant to work in a manner where the richest countries paid in more to assist those smaller member countries to upgrade and change there internal systems to match the rich countries otherwise known as harmonisation. (It has it’s flaws as in the case of Greece) Now it matters not to me whether you believe in an EU superstate or not, but those that criticised the EU for trying to create a superstate were correct despite the denials of the EU. The feelings of many peoples in EU member states is one of apprehension and many would like the same chance we had to hold a referendum. Cameron knew he was taking a big gamble holding one but had to promise it to hold his party together and win the General Election. That tactic worked and he then believed that a concerted state sponsored effort to persuade doubters to remain would also work, but he misjudged and lost. The response of the establishment media proved this to be the case when the results came in and reported this news more like a death than an act of democracy. Now just to add I don’t care whether we are in or out so no need for anyone to go on the attack. I just deal with facts.

      • You mean like the million of ESF funding that was used to pay for Community Work Placements (workfare). They can keep that for a start.

        • That’s right. I dealt with the ESF funding through my job when it was first introduced back in the early 2000’s, at first it was used to help fund charities who offered further education courses such as IT CLAIT and similar. The Charities were paid according to who qualified by passing exams. It worked well for that purpose, but then it was changed to be used for payments to coerce people in to work and reputable charities rejected this. That’s when it fell in to disrepute. Mind you the Tory Government decision to introduce the Work Programme was the worst thing ever. A push toward outright exploitation if there ever was one. It made New Labours pathways to work look like a fair scheme which it wasn’t, but that’s how bad the Tories really are. If they can hurt people they will.

      • CraigR said:I am disgusted by our vote to leave.

So you don’t believe in your own nation and it’s abilities to run it’s own affairs? Then arrange a job in the EU and pack up lock stock and barrel and move there. The UK doesn’t need your kind of negativity at this juncture.

        • I’m disgusted every time people elect a Tory Government but I don’t expect to have to leave the country because of it. You carry on being disgusted if you want CraigR. The UK is made up of many differing opinions so you don’t need to leave the UK because of that

        • Wow! That sounds Stalinist! Only one way of doing things, ours, and if you disagree or dissent you’re not a free citizen in a democratic country but a traitor who should emigrate abroad. Which is, of course, the way that refugees get made. Have a word with yourself for goodness sake.

          • Not at all Martinn but if you’re as disgusted as you make out and you’re not just feigning indignation and disgust and taking into account you love the EU so much i think it makes perfect sense that you would want to look for a job and move over there. After all with this free movement of people in vogue at the moment that the EU just loves then it should be no problem.

            • Unbelievable! Raining? You don’t actually believe all that bad tempered nonsense you spout do you? Martinn also makes a good point about Stalinism. Maybe a spell in North Korea or another dictatorship would soften you up a bit. Your philosophy on life seems to be “we do it my way or else”! You can’t throw everyone out of the country just because you feel morally superior, that’s just sad!

              • Well thing is i’m going through a bad bipolar episode just now where i don’t feel very well so maybe not. But actually i do believe it all, every bit of it. I’m not saying he has to leave the country that would be a dictatorship. Just that maybe if he feels that badly about it and likes the EU and everything it does them maybe he should consider it as an option..

                • TruthTeller

That’s interesting! I am Bi-Polar as well. However I don’t get the extreme high as some do, I just tend to go slightly above and then deep lows. It is a noticeable side effect of bi-polar that sufferers tend to over analyse things, I know I do, and become obsessive about certain subjects also one of my problems, however it is still a positive thing overall, it gives you a sharp intellect.

“BILL TO BE PRESENTED TO PARLIAMENT TO HALT NHS PRIVATISATION”

…………..Time to see who are real enemies are

“The NHS was 68 years old this week. We need to make sure it’s there for all who need it for the next 68 years too” says Margaret Greenwood MP.

And next Wednesday 13th July Greenwood – the Labour MP for Wirral West – will present a bill on the NHS to Parliament which aims to get the NHS off “life support” and secure its future.

The Bill – designed by lawyers and leading NHS experts including Professor Allyson Pollock – has already been backed by most of the leading NHS campaign organisations, including Keep Our NHS Public, the Socialist Health Association, Unite the Union (which represents over 100,000 health workers) and 38 Degrees, as well as being overwhelmingly endorsed by the British Medical Association last month.

Margaret Greenwood MP said it was a “privilege” to present the Bill to the House of Commons, adding:

“Doctors, nurses and campaigners across the country have been working tirelessly to combat the privatisation of the NHS that we are seeing. The Health and Social Care Act 2012 provided the framework for the privatisation of the National Health Service. As a result we are seeing big private health care companies snapping up contracts, taking them from existing NHS providers. This means that money that should be spent on health care is going into the pockets of shareholders. It’s just plain wrong.”

So what does the Bill do? In a nutshell, it sets out to stop the privatisation of the NHS and return it to its founding principles, removing competition and the profit motive as a driver of policy and replacing them with the public service ethos which has been the hallmark of the NHS since its foundation.

Campaigners point out that the move is far from impossible – Scotland did something similar and patient satisfaction and value for money have risen as a result. But they also see that the alternative is unimaginable – that unless the expensive, bureaucratic, commercially driven system crippling the NHS is properly tackled, the drive towards drastic frontline cuts and also towards charges or ‘co-payments’ will only become more inevitable.

“BARCLAYS BANK, RWE and N POWER HELPING TO FUCK OVER THE POOR”

………ULTIMATE CONTROL OF WHAT YOU EAT, WHAT YOU SPEND AND WHERE YOU GO, A VIRTUAL PRISONER ON JUST A MEAGRE SUM THAT WAS DESCRIBED IN 2012 BY THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AS 40% BELOW EXPECTATIONS………..

The UK government is trialling the use of distributed ledger technology and a mobile app to help welfare claimants track what they are spending their benefit payments on.

The proof-of-concept, which kicked off last month in the North West of England with a tiny group of volunteers, sees claimants use a mobile app to receive and spend their benefit money.

Then, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) minister Lord Freud told the Payments Innovation conference this week, with claimants’ consent “their transactions are being recorded on a distributed ledger to support their financial management”.

The DWP is working with fintech outfit GovCoin, Barclays, energy utility RWE npower and University College London on the trial.

GovCoin stresses that the transaction data tracked by the DLT is not seen by the government, but feeds back into the app so that claimants can see their available funds and monitor and allocate their spending to “jars”.

Jeremy Wilson, vice chairman, corporate banking, Barclays, says: “This initiative focuses on adding an additional layer of richer data and identity onto payments, so that a deeper and more effective relationship can be established between the government and claimants.”

    • GEOFF REYNOLDS

…………..and yet the toff’s sit in the Lords for ten minutes, pick up the grand figure of £300 per day, enjoy subsidised meals and drinks whilst the poor are chastised for receiving £72 that is expected to last a whole week…………..

  39. With passion! A wonderfully argued piece. I voted ‘remain,’ not because I was staunchly pro-EU, but because I genuinely believed that the EU’s regard for human and workers’ rights was better than was our government’s. I still think that there is a better hope for cooperative opposition to austerity within the EU, than under our own increasingly divisive governments.

    • paultheswineherd

Martin – Well said (as also CraigR in his post above) – this referendum has caused so much heartbreak on all sides and with a useless Government (as well as just a useless Opposition too) in ‘power’ with infighting as to who are going to be the new ‘leaders’/’prime minister’. They also had none and still do not have any firm plan at all to deal with the Brexit consequences and any fall out from it. I am sure that the people (especially the poor and the working poor) and the economy will all suffer.
The Bank of England is already signalling a ‘cut’ in interest rates next week.
Many ‘private’ pensioners use this ‘interest’ on savings to push up their incomes – I don’t see them being best pleased by this move (especially as so many of them probably voted ‘leave’!
Out of the EU, surely any ‘protection’ that there was originally (it seems very little anyway!) there will be gone. Unions are very likely to be targeted by the Tories for further destruction as the time proceeds.
A dead, or virtually dead Labour party, and a possibly increasingly right-wing and totally unfettered and unrestricted Tory Government, supported by their friends, the Judiciary, – a new ‘British Bill of (No) Rights and the destruction of workers rights and many other peoples rights (Priti Patel has already said that she will make sure that this will happen). I am extremely worried as to what the eventual outcome of all of this is going to be.

      • Well there is the crux in a nut shell.
A rise in interest rates is long overdue.
Property prices are filtering thru into every aspect of business and causing inflation. These prices have been sustained deliberately for exactly this purpose.
Cheap money for businesses does not create jobs that pay,it creates min wage jobs for chancer rich bizzo types to exploit the low paid.
You keep slaving away for minimum wage whilst your landlord makes 10k/ yr capitol gains just from a london bedsit.
The ‘rich’ will suffer in an economy slow down, the poor have fuck all to lose.
In earlier decades this would have been sorted out by now after a few general strikes.
Unions are toothless because agencies can be used to hire add infin.
Same goes for european employment law; it was never implemented.
We got all the sh1t from Brussels except 9 million unskilled workers to further erode the employee quality of life and nothing of use.
The referendum HAS NOT caused heartbreak on the leave side.
The quality of life for a manual worker was twice what it is now compared to 30 yrs ago and stability in life was great.
Those who voted out did so with long memories.

        • The Brexiters seem not to have noticed that when “The quality of life for a manual worker was twice what it is now compared to 30 yers ago and stability in life was great” the world economy was massively different and powerful developing economies like China weren’t in the mix and dominant in the way they are now . The idea that leaving the EU will turn the clock back to a more prosperous past, when Britain was a great manufacturing nation, is a fantasy. All that will happen is that our country, soon to be isolated and alone, will be even more vulnerable and prey to rising economic powers like India, Brazil and China.

The future isn’t what it used to be.

          And nor was the past.

        • paultheswineherd

puzzled – You’ve made some good and very valid points there.
However, with this now (unelected) Theresa May going to jump into Cameron’s shoes, I now fear even further that nothing will change.
It will still be rich people, in a rich Government, fully looking after the rich in society. Theresa May issues weasel words saying that she is going to pull away from the more drastic ‘nasty party’ policies.
I do not believe it! She is hard on the outside and she is made of stone on the inside. In many ways, similar to Thatcher – and once she becomes P.M. on Wednesday – she will have real POWER and that tends to change most people, often for the worst!
As for ‘triggering Article 50’ – I will believe it if and when I see it, but my feeling is that is still a long way down the line yet.
As can be seen from the Independent article, constitutionally, it is far from clear exactly how this can be done without ‘new legislation’.
That in itself will take time and it is possible that it’ll be long drawn out.
I forecast that ‘Brexit’ voters will eventually still regret voting ‘leave’ – it is unlikely that this Tory Government is going to make life any easier, either for ‘working’ people or for claimants – probably far from it in fact.

      • my name is, "my" name

They had no intention of leaving. Boris and Gove were Red Herrings!
        In my opinion!

      • Sad but true Paul😦 I too am very concerned about where we are going with this, and when Teresa May looks like a moderate right winger we’re in deep shit….

  40. Theresa May vows to put Conservatives ‘at service’ of working people.

Setting out plans to change the way big businesses are governed, Mrs May said consumers and workers should have places on their boards.

At the event in Birmingham, Mrs May set out her desire to address inequality and restore trust in politics.

The home secretary acknowledged the criminal justice system treats black people “more harshly” than white counterparts.

Outlining some of the social issues she wants to address, Mrs May said: “Right now, if you’re born poor, you will die on average nine years earlier than others.

“If you’re black, you’re treated more harshly by the criminal justice system than if you’re white. If you’re a white, working-class boy, you’re less likely than anybody else to go to university. If you’re at a state school, you’re less likely to reach the top professions than if you’re educated privately.

“If you’re a woman, you still earn less than a man. If you suffer from mental health problems, there’s too often not enough help to hand. If you’re young, you’ll find it harder than ever before to own your own home.”

She said that “fighting these injustices is not enough”, and added: “If you’re from a working-class family, life is just much harder than many people in politics realise.”

She also said politicians often failed to realise how hard life was for working-class families.

    • Meanwhile Leadsom to ‘quit Tory leadership bid’

      • I don’t believe that Leadsom is competent, even when judged by the low standards of the Conservative party. And, honestly, considering that bankers are largely responsible for fucking up the world economy, why the heck would any political party choose to crown one Prime Minister unelect at a time like this? Politicians? I piss on ’em all, male or female.

    • I seem to remember Margaret Thatcher saying something similar after she was elected and quoting St. Francis of Assisi: “‘Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope’” All Tory leaders talk like this and then stick it to the poor, sick, disabled, single parent, unemployed and the disadvantaged in the cruellest manner imaginable usually claiming in order to free them from the scourge of “welfare dependency” and to “help them” by exercising “tough love”.

      May will be no different.

      • of course, she’s just telling everyone what they want to hear.

      • Wonderful quote Martinn, and me being an old guy, I can still remember that day when she made that speech on the doorstep to Number 10 and me and my dad burst out laughing knowing full well what the working classes were about to suffer. The Tories love to spout this stuff. It’s a bit like Teresa May saying she would rule the UK on behalf of the workers the other day. I mean there’s more chance of the Earth being made of Mint Chocolate than that statement being true.

        • Especially if her pal Philip Hammond becomes the next Chancellor of the Exchequer.

        • Professor Brian Cox

To be more precise and in simple terms so that a BBC One audience will understand, out wonderful planet Earth is actually made from mint chocolate with a soft caramel core. Mint chocolate is the building block of all matter in the Universe. And out of interest soft caramel is formed at the core of dying stars because it take a much greater temperature to form caramel; the reason why there is more mint chocolate in the Universe than soft caramel.

          • I never knew you were a Tory, Coxey.

          • Good to know you recognised BBC One audiences need things explained in simple terms Prof. British TV is so dumbed down these days especially Commercial TV it’s difficult to distinguish it from USA TV apart from Adverts for 20 minutes in every hour rather than adverts for 40 minutes as in the USA.

Commercial TV is so dumbed-down it is now officially unwatchable. And why do the commercial channels all conspire to put the infernal ads on at the same time – if you go channel-hopping during a ‘break’ you are met by a wall of ads.

          • Remote Control

            • How about squeezing some energy from the quantum vacuum, Doctor Cox, so that my bills get reduced. Do something useful for fuck’s sake. And while we’re about it what about giving the strong and weak nuclear forces a fair crack of the whip during your Forces of Nature series? You seem gravity and electromagnetism mad! And what about the police and armed forces? No mention of them either. Fuck off back to Manchester, lay low, and say nuthin!

Urgent question in the House of Commons at 3.30PM this afternoon!
Brexit has undoubtedly opened a very vigorous can of worms for this Government!

  50. It’s high time the working class developed a voice and a spine and stood it for itself instead of doing the usual thing, being apathetic, head up the arse mentality and just bending over and accepting everything the government enforces upon us, look where that attitude has gotten us, a country that is a complete, bloody mess and the people have no faith and hope in anything!

    • Don’t forget RT, they have a backbone too!

      • All news Channels are used for propaganda purposes. RT don’t have any more backbone than any other TV news outlets. RT is good at exposing stories that our broadcasters cover up, but the reverse is also true. BBC and western broadcasters expose wrongdoing in Russia which RT covers up. Example; ever seen a pro Israel story on Aljazeera? Thought not! Ever seen a Pro Palestinian broadcast on Israeli TV News, again thought not! They all have hidden agendas and rely on the plebs to believe what they tell us.

…………BUT IT’S ALRIGHT BECAUSE CHRISTOPHER GRAHAM THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION CSAR WILL HIDE IT TO ENABLE HIS KNIGHTHOOD…

I don’t know if you can help me as I’m just a disabled mum who after 11 years of receiving full mobility component and middle care component [of DLA] I’m apparently healed.

My disability though invisible is very painful and I don’t walk far.I can’t. I use my mobility car when I can to take my kids to school. Day trips. Doing things with them when I’m able to. I have osteoarthritis in my hands now so my 8 yr old daughter helps me with my pills as I can’t open the bottles, packets, blister packs or childproof lids. She can.

My 8 yr old daughter is my biggest worry as she is autistic and has mobility safety issues herself. She has no sense of danger on roads and I certainly cannot run after her. My car is my lifeline to give me and mine a semblance of a normal life. I missed out by 2 points. 2!

This car is the difference between me having a life and me not having one. I have a carer yes and he can do stuff for me. However just for sanity’s sake a person needs to feel useful. To contribute. To bring something to the table.

Having spoken to motability today I feel how truly sad the people there are. Trying to do a job that they’ve lived for so long that now means they are hurting and punishing people on a daily basis. Motability are stars to help people like they do. Never had a bad word to say about them in 7 yrs I’ve had a car with them.

On the 9th August my car is being taken from me. My last act of defiance is to tell them it’s here.. come get it. I refuse to take it to them – it will break me. I won’t.

I can’t use public transport they won’t take my mobility scooter on buses and taxis. The train isn’t an option really. I have high anxieties and when I need to leave a place because I can’t cope any longer I need to leave then and there.

I feel I’m being punished for something I’ve not done. Today I sat looking at my tablets and thought how easily I could just take the lot. Disappear. Become a statistic soon forgotten by the Tory party.

This government, just like the last two, is happily making social security worthless so they can insist we all buy insurance instead from their crooked business chums. It’ll open up a multibilion pound industry. No doubt they’ll be very, very well rewarded indeed. Does it all make sense now?

    • She must appeal the decision. I advised a person I cannot name due to privacy reasons to appeal recently and she won her mobility car back. The media is ignoring the fact that Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour is pulling ahead in the polls

About 10 days ago, The Times published an extraordinary voter poll, which the paper commissioned from YouGov: It showed Labour with a three-point lead over the Conservatives in voting intention, and with Jeremy Corbyn’s personal ratings seven points ahead of those for Prime Minister David Cameron. Here were the headline results:

    Lab: 34%
    Con: 31%

And when asked to rate whether they trusted the party leaders:

    Cameron: 21%
    Corbyn: 28%

The Times played down those results and focused instead on what the poll said about how voters might decide the Brexit referendum.

A cynic might suggest that this was yet another example of the biased Tory press ignoring its own polls in its unfair coverage of Labour. A realist might add that the poll was an outlier — similar polls taken before and after the April 12 YouGov sample show the Conservatives more consistently ahead of Labour, by about four points.

    • And here’s a very recent poll showing Labour eight points behind the Conservatives, suggesting that the party would lose any general election held in the near future very badly and lose more MPs.

      https://www.politicshome.com/news/uk/politics/opinion-polls/news/77197/labour-would-lose-snap-general-election-new-poll-suggests

As far as I remember, prior to the last general election, Labour was either level pegging with the Tories or ahead of the Tories in the polls and went on to lose that election badly. God alone knows, after a disaster like that, what going in to another general election would mean with the party eights points behind the Conservatives as it is (according to the poll mentioned above) at the moment.

As they both begin to drown the frog looks up and asks the scorpion why it stung him dooming them both to a watery grave. Scorpion replies that it hated frogs and couldn’t help itself because stinging things was fundamental to its nature. Both animals die. The end.

        • Although I think “two E grade A levels” Corbyn is pretty hopeless, inept and stilted I wouldn’t go so far as to call him a scorpion.

Labour’s NEC set to ensure Jeremy Corbyn is on leadership ballot

The Labour leader will be automatically included in the party’s contest, senior figures have told the New Statesman.

It means that it looks like Jeremy Corbyn will not have to seek 51 nominations to get onto the ballot paper, making life extremely difficult for leadership contender Angela Eagle.

It is also thought that there are moves afoot to make the contest swift as the Tory leadership contest came to an end today.

It will probably coincide with a new bill of rights to relace the Human Rights and changes to the right to assemble, demonstrate and voice dissent.
All of these changes should sail through Westminster with the new media elected Blairite faction that has the audacity to wear a red rosette.

          • Dissidentdiva

Assembling, demonstrating and voicing dissent no longer has any effect, anyway. A pleasant stroll through central London while carrying a banner is not going to bring the Government to its knees.

    “VOID CONTRACTS AND THE DWP”

    Void Contracts

Void contracts are a contract which doesn’t apply as the way it is entered into means there was no “meeting of the minds” which means no contract even though you have signed one. With a void contract neither party can enforce any conditions within that contract, so let’s look at how a contract may be void.

Most commonly it is through misrepresentation and this is easily proven, any false statement of fact made by any Jobcentre advisor renders a contract void, and they use a lot of misleading and false representations. Most common are:

You have to sign the new contract

We can revoke your old contract at any time

If you don’t sign we will stop your money

If you don’t sign we will/can report you for sanction

We can mandate you to sign a new contract

We can issue a Jobseekers Direction to force you to sign a new contract

There will be many others used depending upon the advisor you see

We already know that nobody can be forced into signing any contract and this alone excludes many of the above reasons or false claims they make towards you. You don’t have to sign any contract, they cannot revoke your contract unless they can prove non-performance, they cannot stop your money for refusing to sign a contract, and they cannot report you for sanction, mandate, or use a Jobseekers Direction to force you to sign a new contract; it’s illegal and unlawful and if you are pressured into signing it’s a void contract.

Misrepresentation also has a sinister side which is illegal and this is where any action they take causes you loss or puts you at risk of a loss and if we use the Fraud Act 2006 it states:

“DWP WORK PROGRAMME SLAVES ON SUICIDE LIST”

Having fought for over a year to keep the information secret, the DWP have finally been forced by the Information Commissioner to reveal that claimants on the work programme were among the 49 people whose deaths were peer reviewed by the DWP.

Back in June 2015, we asked the DWP two very straightforward questions via the Freedom of Information Act:

How many of the 49 claimants whose deaths were peer reviewed were ESA claimants who were, or had recently been, on the work programme?

How many of these were deemed to be vulnerable claimants in relation to ‘safeguarding’ procedures?

These were questions that only required a single number each as answers.

Nonetheless, the DWP repeatedly refused to answer either question, claiming first that they could not do so because it might identify the claimants and then that it was information gained in the course of their duties and so could not be disclosed.

The DWP continued to dig their heels in until instructed to answer by the Information Commissioner in May of this year.

The answer is as short and simple as we always maintained it would be:

“Of the 49 peer reviews two individuals were ESA claimants who were or had recently been on the work programme. Of these one individual was identified as being vulnerable.”

We know from a separate Freedom of Information Act response that 22 claimants in the peer reviews were ESA claimants. We now know that 2 of this number had been obliged to participate in the work programme – it is possible they volunteered but it seems extremely improbable.

“ALTERNATIVE BITCOIN CURRENCY FOR THE PEASANTS AND CRIPPLES”

The government is monitoring the spending of welfare benefit recipients in a new technology trial backed by the minister for welfare reform, Lord Freud, who said:

Claimants are using an app on their phones through which they are receiving and spending their benefit payments. With their consent, their transactions are being recorded on a distributed ledger to support their financial management.

Freud announced the trial at the Payments Innovation Conference on 4 July.

Given the cynicism directed at benefit recipients by the current government, it hardly seems surprising that there are plans afoot to begin snooping on how people are spending their hard won welfare payments. Although Freud’s statement implies some choice as to whether transactions are transmitted to the app, there could be something even more sinister afoot.

The app, which requires benefit recipients to use a smartphone, is being developed by GovCoin Systems Limited, a London-based startup specialising in platforms that utilise alternatives to cash, such as bitcoin, which they call “commons money systems” – a term that appears to have been coined (pardon the pun) by GovCoin’s own chairman, FinTech entrepreneur and investor, John Edge – but they are usually referred to as “cryptocurrency” and are based on an IT platform called blockchain.

This begs the question of whether the government is considering the possibility of creating a bitcoin-like benefits currency that can only be received or spent through this app.

What will happen to benefit recipients who choose not to, or cannot, use a smartphone?

Could this become compulsory, making it standard practice for the government to sanction recipients who, for example, spent more money on cigarettes than on food, over the past month?

……………..The labour party donor who gave £400, 000 to the labour party has mysterious links……..

    “MATTHEW FREUD”

Public relations guru Matthew Freud and Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of Rupert Murdoch, are set to divorce after 13 years of marriage.

Murdoch, 46, and Freud, 50, are expected to be granted a decree nisi this week.

The couple, who have two children aged 13 and 7, are worth an estimated £250m between them.

Although their separation has been the subject of speculation for some time, the divorce comes after a year of alleged tension between Freud and Rupert Murdoch over the former’s friendship with Tony Blair, the ex-prime minister who allegedly met the 83-year old’s wife, Wendy Deng, several times without his knowledge.

Rupert Murdoch divorced Deng, 45, last year, while friends of Blair have always said the relationship was platonic.

The growing tension between the two men reportedly saw Murdoch banned from Freud’s 50th birthday party last year, where Blair and his wife were guests.

“MICHAEL FOSTER IS PARTNER WITH MATTHEW FREUD”

The name of one of Britain’s oldest talent and literary agencies, Peters Fraser & Dunlop, is to disappear following a takeover by Matthew Freud and agent Michael Foster.

Home to distinguished literary estates such as JB Priestley and historian Simon Schama, PFD will become The Rights House. It marks the end of an era for PFD, which was hit by a walkout two years ago by many of its leading stars and writers, including Ricky Gervais, Tom Stoppard and Kate Winslet.

Under the terms of the deal, Foster will merge his company MF Management with PFD and hold a controlling interest. Foster, who is agent to Chris Evans among others, will be the senior partner at the new company, along with the PFD chief executive, Caroline Michel.

Broadcaster and former Sunday Times editor Andrew Neil, who headed the consortium that bought PFD for about £4m in 2008, will step down as chairman. Neil’s consortium is expected to retain a stake in the company, and he may take a seat on the new holding company’s board.

Labour donor explains why he heckled Jeremy Corbyn at Israel event

By Marcus Dysch, October 1, 2015
    Michael Foster

A Labour supporter who heckled Jeremy Corbyn at a Labour Friends of Israel reception has explained his reasons for shouting at the party leader.

Michael Foster, a Jewish donor who stood as a Labour candidate in the general election, said he had been unable to understand how Mr Corbyn could speak for eight minutes at the event without using the word “Israel”.

As Mr Corbyn moved away from the microphone at the LFI reception in Brighton on Tuesday evening, Mr Foster shouted: “Say the word Israel, say the word Israel.”

A former showbusiness agent who is one of the party’s leading donors having given more than £400,000 since 2010, Mr Foster told the Times: “I find it difficult to understand how the leader of the British Labour party, when he has spent the conference talking about decency, respect for human values and human rights, kindness and a new way of conducting politics, can appear on a platform in front of 250 or 300 Jewish people . . . and cannot find in his lexicon of words at that meeting, the word ‘Jew’, ‘Jewish’, ‘the UK Jewish community’ or the word ‘Israel’. That is not leadership.”

“BLAIRITES TRYING TO STITCH UP THE VOTING PROCESS”

………MEMBERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO VOTE AFTER 8 WEEKS OF JOINING………

Labour party members who have been in the party for less than six months will be barred from taking part in the forthcoming leadership election unless they pay £25.

A crunch meeting of the party’s ruling body in London tonight decided leader Jeremy Corbyn will automatically be on the ballot for the contest.

But Labour members who have signed up after Tuesday, January 12 will not eligible to vote.

That means the claimed 100,000 new members the party claims they have attracted since the referendum will be excluded from the process.

But they may still be able to take part in the vote if they’re willing to stump up a £25 ‘registered supporter’ fee.

Applications to be a registered supporter will only be open for two days – and it’s believed those who became members since January 12 will be allowed to sign up as registered supporters.

I’ve been a member for almost a year, so I shouldn’t have to worry about this ridiculous charge – but I will still kick up a stink on behalf of those newer members who have been f***ed over by the NEC! I don’t even see how this is legal, since the rules clearly state that members should be able to vote within 8 weeks of joining – this ruling MUST be challenged for the sake of fairness!

    “CONSENT AND THE DWP”

Is there any legal requirement now in place for claimants in receipt of
Jobseeker’s Allowance or the Jobseeker’s Allowance element of Universal
Credit that allows the Jobcentre to retain or photocopy a claimant’s work
search activities without the claimant’s consent”?

To put the format of this response into context, it may be helpful if we explain
about the Freedom of Information Act. The Act concerns the provision of
recorded information held by public authorities such as DWP; the Act does not
require that we create new information or generate answers to questions.
Therefore, if a request is made in the form of a question, we provide the
recorded information already held that answers the question.

In this instance, we can confirm there is no law that allows the jobcentre to
retain or photocopy a Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit claimant’s
work search activities without their consent. Therefore, there is no recorded
    information that answers your question.

If you have any queries about this letter please contact us quoting the

  114. Jeremy Corbin takes his new shadow cabinet out to diner , the waiter asks Corbin what he would like to eat, Corbin replies ” I will have roast pork . the waiter replies ” what about the vegetables sir” Corbin looks around at his new shadow cabinet and replies ” oh they can same same!!!!…..

  115. I wish these birds that May has brought into her cabinet had bigger and more shapely boobs and bootilicious backsides. If they ain’t much cop at political stuff at least when they appear in the Sun they ought to be curvy and ogleable. Whe-hey!

Besides, when you are on that track in life, nothing is ever enough.Greed, greed, greed, me, me, me, so on and so forth.

  117. Jeezus, we`re on the eve of destruction😦

  118. News flash 15/07/2016

David Cameron, since self-resigning from his cushy, easy job has been seen in Central London yesterday attempting to squat illegally in one of the currently empty top-end properties near to his former rent-free home. The Met Police, whom are aware of the situation, are advising local residents in the area to avoid this person as he might turn violent or dangerous if confronted or stopped from breaking into and squatting in empty houses. If you feel your public safety is at risk, please do not hesitate in calling Crimestoppers on 999.

George Osborne, formerly known as Gideon “Ozzy” Osborne has gone missing after being sacked from his high-flying job fiddling the country’s financial bank account and interest savings to feather his own nest, therefore resulting in people losing their jobs, wages, homes and families; and resorting to using food banks to survive. Gideon, the public school toff is now wanted by the Fraud Squad in connection with money laundering and scaremongering people into an emergency brexit budget for the worse.

Floppy-haired Boris Johnson, who shares his hair brush with Donald Trump has finally got his mojo back after landing a top job under Mrs. May. His new role will have its ups and downs as he deals with both Mrs. May along with exporting UK values to the rest of the world. Rumours that Mr. May is unhappy that the blonde-haired Casanova is trying to get up and down with Mrs May are as yet un-confirmed. Our news reporter tried to speak to Mojo but all was said in return was ” flobalobalob”. Billy Smart’s Circus, incidentally, is now advertising for a new tightrope cycling clown following the resignation of his star attraction Mojo the Clown.

  119. @Fen, If Only!!
    Hope you are well.

  120. Caring in later life significantly harms employment prospects say Age UK & Carers UK.

Age UK and Carers UK call for fresh approach to support those juggling work and unpaid care.

Age UK, together with Carers UK, is calling on the Government to make all jobs ‘flexible by default’ to support longer working lives, for those with caring responsibilities as well as those without.

    http://www.welfareweekly.com/caring-in-later-life-significantly-harms-employment-prospects/

  121. Unfortunately, caring for anyone at anytime in one’s life means nothing to any political party, paid or unpaid. This Country has a backward mentality that assumes/supposes, that, we should all look after our friends and family with no monies paid. On the one hand, this makes sense, especially if you are loaded and have a loaded extensive family who maybe do not have to work. On the other, if you are poor and need to eat it does not make sense.

    • Which is why, of course, people in poor countries often have very large families. to try to guarantee that there’ll be enough sons and daughters to look after mum and/or dad in their old age. The very poor don’t “breed like rabbits” but have large families to shoulder the cost and time required to look after elderly relatives. They have no choice.

  123. Is that contemptible bastard David Freud being kept on as (unelected) Minister for Welfare Reform? That monster has the survival ability of a cockroach, moving from Labour to Coalition to Tory (under Cameron) to Tory (under May). How much death has this evil swine actually caused? How much heartbreak, anxiety and misery has this black hearted devil spawned? It would gladden my heart to hear that, like George Osborne and David Cameron, he was no longer meddling behind the scenes, seemingly answerable to nobody.

    • That’s the problem with job centre cock roaches. Even if a nuclear bomb was to strike the jobcentre they would still be sat there on their four arses doling out sanctions.

  124. paultheswineherd

Sky News reporting that a military coup is underway in Turkey – Istanbul & Ankara airports in lockdown, state media taken over and a curfew has been imposed.

  125. Soft Southerner

What the hell was Theresa May playing at, wasting hard-working taxpayers money traveling all the way up to that barren wasteland Scotchland to meet the deformed dwarf, smurf lookalike, tinpot dictator and all-round non-entity Nicola Sturgeon!?

  126. A fairer sanctions system.

Benefit Claimants Sanctions (Required Assessment) Bill 2016-17

Mhairi Black: – “My bill, the Benefit Claimants Sanctions (Required Assessment) Bill 2016-17, was introduced a few weeks ago and has already won cross-party support from, among others, Tory MP Andrew Percy, Labour veteran Dennis Skinner, Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville-Roberts, Green MP Caroline Lucas, and my 54 SNP colleagues. This is important: for the bill to have any chance of success it will need as much support as possible from both sides of the chamber”.

    http://www.thenational.scot/comment/mhairi-black-if-we-must-have-benefit-sanctions-lets-make-them-fairer.20051

    • It will need support from a baker’s dozen of Tories to get through too wouldn’t it? And considering how much they all seem to hate benefit claimants and such like how much chance has that got of happening?

    • This “Bill” is a load of old bollocks, but what else can you expect from a hairy-arsed lesbian!? This comment gives the intent away (as well as Mhari’s example of the “single parent”):

      “Corrinne Vallely · Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire
Will ‘single parent’ include fathers who co-parent, aren’t on an equal basis with their child’s mother, but who do not qualify for housing benefits etc…. Because only the one parent (most times the mother) gets the child benefit? Single fathers get no benefits for their child if the mother regardless of her circumstance is the one getting the child benefit.”

It is all about removing FEMALE single parents, and probably females as a whole group, from the sanctions regime. It is back to the whole so-called ‘vulnerable group’ crap: let sanctions be the preserve of single, white males.

Fuck this transparent shit: End sanctions without exception – or fuck off!

      End Sanctions – Without Expection

“Pamela Mitchell · Edinburgh, United Kingdom”The other vulnerable groups are single people who are also targeted, many of them are mature adults who end up homeless because the benefit amount is so low and inadequate to cover gas and electric or food.”” But fuck them, eh Mhari!

Mhairi Black is a fly little shit: “I came into politics not as a career but to help the poor”. Yeah sure Mhairi, we believe you😉 Mhairi Black is just another self-serving poli-fucking-tician! Get real, folks. Just like wee Nicola, another careerist riding to power and money on the backs of the poorest and most vulnerable in society. What’s the betting wee Mhairi is angling for and being primed for wee Nicola’s job when she leaves office. Mhairi Black (on £70,000 a year plus expenses) doesn’t give a flying fuck about the effects of benefits sanctions.

      Enigma

  127. paultheswineherd

Mhairi Black – I do not really give a tuppeny fuck if she is a lesbian or whatever – however, what we do know is that she has stood up to Cameron & the Tories in the past. She has asked pointed and very valid questions in PMQ’s with regard to what the Tories have done – including ‘benefit sanctions’ and including the ‘bedroom tax’. THIS IS BY FAR A LOT MORE THAN WHAT THE ‘BLAIRITE’ LABOUR M.P’s have done.
CORBYN in PMQ’s has, in the past asked questions to Cameron of all of this – and Cameron has bypassed and totally twisted his questions sideways – to the total jeers and laughing taunts of so many Tory M.P.’s.
(I am not on Facebook/Twitter – but if any of you would care to send this message directly to Mhairi Black, then I would very much appreciate it!)
    Many thanks

    • paultheswineherd

Mhairi Black has indeed, shown true guts to stand up to Cameron and his cruel Tories. The Tories, given the chance would crush everyone – the poor, the almost poor, the working poor and the lower middle classes even!
The only true winners over so many recent years have been the middle and upper middle classes and upwards, whilst also meanwhile, the ‘no questions asked’ child carers – taking the ‘hard-earned’ money of so many of these ‘long-hour working’ people. Sucking at the huge milk bearing tits of money that these ‘workers’ produce, most of these people ‘want out of Europe’ – but – what have they got to ‘look forward to’ – (Answer) Loads more working hours, fewer ‘working hours’ protection, less in the way of ‘health and safety protection’ and last, but by no means least, less in the way of ‘data and human rights’ protection.

      • paultheswineherd

Whilst also under an increasingly authoritarian regime under our ‘new Prime Minister’ – Theresa May. A self-serving and totally cold-hearted ‘politician’ who really wants to bring in the ‘snoopers charter’, the scrapping of the Human Rights Act in favour of a ‘British Bill of (No) Rights’ and who, singlehandedly totally destroyed Britain’s ‘Border Force’.
Oh well, at least Theresa May is probably an only slightly better ‘firm hand on the helm’ than what Andrea Leadsom would have been!

        • paultheswineherd

It could worse though – Nigel Farage could be Prime Minister😦

          • paultheswineherd

Re Turkey – I definitely would not like to be in the shoes of any of the ‘arrested’ members of the ‘Military’ in Turkey now – torture and/or death beckons for these poor unfortunates now!
Even though Turkey is a ‘member of NATO’, human rights is Turkey are shite and apparently getting worse by the day, (due to Erdogan’s regime)

What’s this about? 25 and under expected to job-search for 48 hours a week under Universal Car Crash

    https://refutedarchive.wordpress.com/2016/07/16/48hoursbs/

    • Nobody – ABSOLUTELY NOBODY – could spend 48 hours a week looking for work. (Nearly seven hours a day seven days a week,) In fact I would go so far as to say that nobody – ABSOLUTELY NOBODY – spends 35 hours a week NOW actively seeking work as ordained by the DWP. Let’s face it such a demand is impossible to carry out and impossible for the DWP to police and enforce strictly. What a complete and utter bunch of idiots!

When are jobcentres going to provide toilets for their ‘customers’? Sign the petition… with excrement😀

    • That’ll be when they also provide drinking water, baby-changing facilities and …. phone charging points – around the time hell freezes over.

Don’t remember now if it was during winter or summer at a time when the JCP- was v. busy (a couple of years ago), full of people sat waiting. A young couple with a small baby asked if there were any baby-changing facilities in the building – they must have been new to the JCP- & that, of course, resulted in much puzzled ‘going to find out’ with the reply coming back that the nearest were in the bus station, over the road …

      • Pitchfork Revolution

It is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT for premises such as the Jobcentre to provide a drinking water fountain. The DWP is IGNORING THE LAW! What’s new!?😀

-VERIFYTHE DIAGNOSIS WITHOUT DISTURBING THE PATIENT. HESHOULD NOT BE AWARE FOR THE REAL SITUATION OF INSTITUTIONS ,FINANCIAL MARKETS INVOLVED. NORMAL PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF VERYCOMPLICATED EVENTS. ASK Draghi , Juncker , Yellen BULGARIAGOVERNMENT , BULGARIA NATIONAL BANK , MILITARY HOSPITAL IN BULGARIAVERY DISCRETELY WHY THEY DO NOT POSTPONE THE OPERATION BUT TRYTO MAKE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS THERE ARE STRANGE CIRCUMSTANCES WITHIMPORTANT PEOPLE ACCUSED IN CORRUPTION – THAT IS PUBLIC SERVANTTHAT HURTS THE INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY OR UNION ON PURPOSE . WHATMATTER IS THE HARM TO BE PROVEN NOT THE PAYING OF SMALL OR BIGAMOUNT. . ARE THEY READYALL MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS TO BE VERIFIED. DO THEY HIDE SOMETHING ANDIF THEY KNOW SOME OF THE OTHER PLAYERS IN THIS SCHEMA.

ASKPUBLICLY IF Draghi , Juncker , Yellen BULGARIA GOVERNMENT ,BULGARIA NATIONAL BANK IFTHEY CONSIDER ME FORMENTALLY ILL OR I HAVE TO STOP A CLEAR CASE OF REVENGE BYTHIS FALSIFIED OPERATION AND THE FURTHER INTENT OF YellenTO MAKE A SHARE BUBBLE AND Draghi , OFSTEALING DEPOSITS. BY NOT INTRODUCING RATIONING. THEIR RICH FRIENDS ARE DESPERATE AS A 15YEAR CRISIS STARTED , THE DATA ARE FALSIFIED AND THEY HOLD HUGEAMOUNT OF OVER 20 TRILLION OVER ESTIMATED SHARES THEY HAVE TO SELL TOSOMEBODY. DO THEY BELIEVE THEY WILL BE ABLE TO APPROPRIATE THESEMONEY , WHEN I AM EXCLUDED FROM THE GAME BY PROVOKING ME WITHINTERNAL ORGAN FALSIFIED OPERATION OF MY FATHER IN FRONT ALL OF THEWORLD. IT IS CLEAR THAT I HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION TO SURVIVE , BUTDIFFICULT FOR THEM TO KILL ME STRAIGHT. SO GOING FOR MY FATHER THEYWILL TRY TO ANNOUNCE ME MENTALLY ILL WHEN I TRY TO STOP THIS EVENT. IT IS CLEAR THAT FROM THEINFORMATION REVEALED TO ME OF THE BULGARIAN GOVERNMENT AND CENTRALBANK THAT THEY ARE CORRUPTED FROM ECB AND EC THE CONSEQUENCES WILLBE SEVERE. FROM HERE THEBULGARIA GOVERNMENT ,BULGARIA NATIONAL BANK ADMITTED TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF Draghi , Juncker , Yellen AND THEAUSTRIAN BANKS TO CONTROL THEM FOR CARTEL OT STEALING FROM THEBUDGET. THE AUSTRIAN TELECOM IS PERFORMING THE IT AND COMMUNICATION FUNCTIONS OF THIS ORGANIZATION WITH RUDIMENTARY SURVEILLANCE. THEYCANNOT BEAT EVEN ME WITH NSA BEHIND THEM . SO THIS LACK OF KNOWLEDGEEXPLAINS WHY COMPLETE TELECOM AUSTRIA IS IN FRONT OF BANKRUPTCY WITHAUSTRIAN BANKSHOLDING HUGE BAD CREDITS OF THE 200 BN BORROWED FROM THEM THAT ISVERY CLOSE TO REVEALING THAT UNICREDIT AND DEUTSCHE BANKS WILL BESPECULATIVE OR ALREADY ARE WITH TRANSFERED TO THEM FROM AUSTRIA BADCREDITS. INCLUDING THE TELECOM AUSTRIA ITSELF. THAT IS WHY BREXITHAPPENED AS UK WANTED TO DEFEND THEIR BANKS FROM SYSTEMATIC RISKCONTAGION.

ASKPUBLICLY IF Draghi , Juncker , Yellen IFTHEY SET COMMITMENT IN FRONT OF ME THAT THEY WILL KILL MEMBERS OFMY FAMILY OR INJURE THEM IF I DO NOT TRANSFER THEM SOME EQUIVALENTAMOUNTS TO HUNDRED OF BILLIONS AND TRILLIONS.

ASKPUBLICLY IF Draghi , Juncker , Yellen TOPOSTPONE THE OPERATION THAT LOOKS NOT TO BE URGENT AT ALL , NOT THEPATIENT TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN DIE THERE OR LATTER FROM SOMEINFECTION.

    • No, they are not correct, its about 5 million. and rising.
Mushrooms are kept in the dark, and are fed bullshit.

    • The unemployment figures are correct because of the dishonest way unemployment is measured. All statistics can be manipulated to show what you want. these two news stories appeared the same day and both were “basically” true. However they both give a different perspective on the same subject or you could say the/a bigger picture
      http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-36844302
      https://www.rt.com/uk/352083-middle-class-poverty-poor/

From these two stories you can easily get to the truth which is that unemployment is down due to people being forced in to any job, whether suitable or unsuitable, whether you can survive on the wage or not, and in conclusion this is a form of state slavery. This is the real key to how the Tories have been able to reduce unemployment. Create a slave class with no workers rights and dismantle the safety net of benefits so that any work is better than starving. This is why the Tories are called SCUM by those who understand the issues at stake. They really are a sadistic bunch.

      • Sadism and the masochist go together like a hand in glove. One sits on the right and one sits on the left.

This organisation is supposed to be looking after the interests of all ‘Taxpayers’! Where are they now and what are they going to do to tackle the undeniable waste of ‘taxpayer’s’ money in Britain today?

          • @Paul
The Taxpayers’ Alliance is a hard-Right Tory organisation that doesn’t like taxpayers’ money being frittered away on things like the NHS and Social Security (inc pensions) or ordinary folk trying to have a decent standard of life.

            • paultheswineherd

              @pete,
Yes, thanks for that – having looked fully into it, you are correct. They seem to be no friends of the poor etc!

            • Pitchfork Revolution

One of the ‘small government’ crowd. A government small enough not to provide healthcare, social security, pensions or a decent standard of living for the poorest in society. But just big enough to provide a police force and army to protect the property, money and interests of the rich – all paid for by the poor of course!

  147. I think the poorer people who voted to remain, prolly did so because they have been told how much the EU is giving to various areas/enterprises and charities etc. It sounds good. Who wouldn’t want money to be given to poor areas etc? Trouble is, they’ve not noticed that the money the EU gives Us is money They’ve taken out of the £350 million per week that we would be giving them if we didn’t have the ‘Rebate’ and various ‘Grants’ etc. In short: What was our money first, has had to be offered to the EU so that they can say keep it and spend it on ‘something nice’.

    • Sean you are absolutely right about how that money will now be in our British Budget. However that £350 million pounds will more than likely be squandered on more tax breaks for the already wealthy. As I have pointed out time and again, if you want a better deal for the poor you need a left wing Labour Government that will end austerity, create real jobs with decent wages and good conditions and invest in the infrastructure and build council housing. Also I might add if anyone wants a free healthcare system and votes Tory you are like Turkeys voting for Christmas. You won’t ever get a fair and decent society with a Tory Government whether in or out of the EU.

“DUNDEE SHERIFF’S COURT MEMBERS SUPPORT TORY ETHNIC CLEANSING OF THE DISABLED”

Welfare advocate Dr Tony Cox is sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work after swearing at assessment centre staff
    July 22nd, 2016 – 12:55 am Janice Burns
    45 comments

WELFARE activist Dr Tony Cox has been sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work after being found guilty of shouting and swearing at Maximus disability assessment centre staff while accompanying a benefits claimant.

Cox, who volunteers for the Scottish Unemployed Workers Network, plans to appeal against his conviction and community payback sentence handed down at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday.

He said he was extremely disappointed with the verdict and called the ruling a “political attack”.

Cox, of Dundee, added: “I am furious with the verdict, being made to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work within six months is a clear attack on my ability to carry out my work helping people through the Scottish Unemployed Workers Network.”

Trouble began when Cox attended the Maximus Assessment Centre at Caledonian House in Dundee on November 15 last year, and Maximus refused to allow him to accompany a vulnerable woman to her assessment and called the police.

Cox was arrested and held overnight in police cells. The court heard that he argued with Maximus employees that the claimant had the right to be accompanied.

John McArdle, co-founder of Scotland-based disability rights campaign Black Triangle, said: “We allege that the conviction and sentence of Dr Tony Cox is a miscarriage of justice.

“Tony Cox is being martyred for reaching out to vulnerable people with physical and/or mental impairments in distress – whose fundamental human right it is to be accompanied to these notorious Work Capability Assessments by a person of their choosing.

“Black Triangle believes that the Sheriff Court has erred in its findings, which appear on the face of it not to have been made out by the prosecution to the required standard of proof, which is ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ in criminal cases.

“In stating that the court ‘preferred’ the hearsay evidence of the Maximus employees over the corroboration of witnesses in Dr Cox’s defence, it appears to us that the conviction is unsafe, as a decision on Tony’s culpability seems to have been made on the standard of proof applicable to civil cases: the balance of probabilities.

…………..and all the bent judges and all the bent men, supported the murder by MAXIMUS men……….

    • ffs Claimants have a LEGAL RIGHT to have someone accompany them to appointments. And that goes for Maximus, the Jobcentre, ‘work programme’… even to a group meeting, ‘workshop’ you have the LEGAL RIGHT to have someone accompany you. Oh, but Maximus, the Jobcentre, ‘work programme’ will just accuse you of being ‘aggressive’, call the cops, and have you thrown in the slammer. The LAW is a fucking arse, and this country is a fucking disgrace. What has wee Nicola and her fucking ‘just-ice’ secretary got to say about this obvious, blatent and glaring miscarriage of just-ice? Yeah, hee haw, fuck all. Shame on this Sheriff, shame on the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, shame on Police State Scotland, shame on the Scots legal system. Shame on the lot of you!

    • What’s it with that ‘National Scot’ site. You have to log into fucking Facebook to post a comment!? wtf!? Un-fucking-believable! Who in their right mind would log into fucking Facebook to post a comment on a website. Not unless you want tracked and traced by the authorities, have your door kicked in at the crack of dawn, thrown into a meat-wagon and driven off to the slammer for posting and “inappropriate” comment. Just how fucking stupid are people!?

…………EVER WONDERED WHY THE DWP ARE SHIT SCARED TO RELEASE INFORMATION REGARDING CLAIMANT SUICIDES?

    PART OF A DOCTORED REPORT:

More than 57,000 people fell behind on their rent just a year after the bedroom tax was introduced, new figures have revealed.

The Social Rented Sector Report 2014-15, published on the day MPs begin a six-week summer holiday, showed 712,000 families were either in rent arrears or had fallen behind at some point during that year.

Among these households, 153,800 said this was due to a reduction in or delays with benefit, and of this group 57,485 said they had benefits cut for “under-occupying” their home due to the bedroom tax.

“A QUESTION TO THE DWP PENSION THIEVES”

In July 2013 The institute of Fiscal Studies did a report ” A Single-Tier Pension: What Does It Really Mean?”

In page 50 they mentioned the following “The relative advantage of the current system is also greater for those expecting to contribute for more than 35 years. The maximum amount of state pension income that someone in this cohort could receive under the proposed system is £146.30 per week. This compares with a maximum of £213.60 per week under the current rules for a high earner and £189.04 per week for a low earner (both with 49 years of contributions).”
In their example they used £146,30 pw as the proposed new state pension and £213,60 per week under the current system for a high earner.

As the difference is roughly £67 pw can you tell me if you calculated roughly how much a person would need in their pension pot to replace the loss of £67 pw if they were in the Auto- enrolment and also how much they would need if the lost pension of £67 pw was uprated to take into account inflation..

    Yours faithfully,

State pension is also in turmoil. Applied for my state pension months ago and a week before my 65th birthday I’d heard nothing, so I rang them. ‘Not even looked at it yet’ I was told, so no forecast, and no payment date.
On my 65th birthday I rang them again -‘major backlog’ they said, but said that they were now looking at it.
How is anyone on the breadline supposed to plan ahead? No wonder Crabb jumped ship – after seeing the absolute shambles that IDS had created he couldn’t wait to get out.

  152. paultheswineherd

Sadiq Khan and Andy Burnham are ‘conversing with think tank ideas’!
I reckon that if this was taken up, a lot of public service workers could see their jobs go. The City Councils would take on the workfare unemployed for little or no pay. (It is hypocritical of M.P.s to (rightly) accuse the Sports Direct owner of ‘terrible and almost slavery conditions for ‘workers” – when slave labour workfare people are thrown to the lions!)
Here is the article from the Guardian
    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/23/sadiq-khan-devolution-unemployed-programme

    • Council here have just forewarned employees they’re now having to consider the next round of cuts (to jobs & so also likely services). They had already looked at vol-au-vent redundancies & going to revisit this but most likely people can expect some of the other kind of redundancy being ‘offered’ up ahead.

At the same time council leaders keep reminding the workforce of what a “great job” they are doing (in a boris trump-like way) in difficult circumstances/with ever-reducing resources – so that’s all ok then. They are being very transparent – in line with their values.

    • Good article that!
I have been sickened by the BBC and other British establishment media who have been spinning these obvious lies about Jeremy Corbyn being a bully. Strange it never dawned on them that a bully would never allow someone who resigned from the Shadow Cabinet, said he was no good as leader, and then asked for her job back, to actually be allowed to do so with little fuss. This is what happened a few days ago with MP Sarah Champion. Even today when I switched on Radio 4 at 6am they were quoting Owen Smith lies without the slightest hint of question as to whether the stories were true. No right of reply for Jeremy of course! After all the horrible bully was maybe down his allotment talking to his Runner Beans and plotting the overthrow of Royal Family as most terrorist sympathisers do. (Sarcasm Intended) There is no doubt in my mind that the British public are so gullible they deserve the crappy governments they get.

  157. Quick hello from me before I have an early week night into bed – up at 5:30am in the morning to get ready for work, as per usual now. I’m still about on here but don’t feel like much computer time now what with extremely busy, tiring work all day.

dd – marvellous! – Loadsatits and (fairly) big sunburnt ones at that!

Meanwhile – Labour’s Owen Smith has had to ‘grovel’ to apologise for his comments as regarding ‘smashing’ Theresa May onto her heels!
What a total shambles when today, ‘Sky’ has reported that in a ‘poll’ the majority of ‘Labour’ supporters have said that they prefer Theresa May to be a more credible leader than ‘Jeremy Corbyn’.
I am terrified now that we will have another 20 years and more of the despicable and cruel Tories! And now that we are (almost!) out of the EU (for the Brexiteers, it could be another 2 years or so more yet!) – the TTIP deal may well be signed off and delivered (the multinationals will be cockahoop)

      • Blimey!

  162. paultheswineherd

Just admit it! – The ‘Brexiteers’ are now, way and way off of what they actually wanted. They wanted ‘Brexit’ – ‘to get our Country back’ from day one – but, this would obviously never, ever happen in a million years!
From now, we are probably talking of at least 2 years from now (and most probably, more nearer to 3 years from now) to trigger Article 50.
It has been reported today that before we ever leave the EU (and once it is done this is likely to accelerate) – there is likely to be a major surge of immigration to the U.K.
I say now that Theresa May and the Tories will NOT ‘accelerate’ Brexit in any way or form from now on – they want to stay in the E.U. (and so do I also). We are going to be way worse off out of the EU than being in it.
The Country is still split and The Tories are still split over all of this!
This newly appointed E.U ‘Brexit’ Negotiator is definitely NOT going to be a walk over as far as the U.K. is concerned!

Some of the ‘comments’ underneath it are really good – and some are laughable – just like looking at some of the comments from the ‘Daily Mail’!

    • Sour grapes Paul. You and the rest of the REMAIN camp lost the vote fair and square. Stop moaning being negative and looking for excuses. The die is cast and that’s that. Plus you’re full of predictions about the future; what are you some kind of Mystic Meg?

      • Yep! This is sour grapes as you say! The remain camp have really got to try and get over the defeat. Sometimes votes go against us and it’s just the way it is. As for Paul believing all that stuff from sky news, that’s a problem in itself. The general public won’t be so keen on Teresa May after she has been in power for a few months. She is just another Thatcherite Tory who will screw the poor sick and disabled and give tax cuts to the already wealthy.

        • Absolutely correct TruthTeller. All i hear is excuse after excuse and negative predictions about a coming apocalypse. These people really should be ashamed of themselves stirring up this kind of stuff instead of gracefully accepting the people have spoken and getting over it. Another thing is them constantly referring to wanting a second referendum because they lost! Guys! Listen to yourselves constantly whining! Get over it, accept the result and let’s go forward with things.

      • paultheswineherd

Raining & Truth Teller – No it is not ‘sour grapes’ as you suggest. I am not asking for, or demanding another ‘Referendum’ to try to get the decision in any way overturned. It was a democratic decision as such and although the result was very, very close, I am okay to stick with it!
And, no I am not Mystic Meg either – I just listen and watch the various news platforms and I try to get an indication of what may happen next.
As I see it, rightly or wrongly it is looking as though the triggering of Article 50 seems to be being delayed. I am only writing what I am witnessing and am trying to interpolate from there!🙂

        • OK Paul fair enough but you must realise that the BBC, Sky, and all the establishment media outlets are going to keep on with the negative stuff because they themselves have still not come to terms with the fact that the people did not fall for the propaganda this time. I watch and listen to news very carefully and have learned over the years how to read between the lines. Just think of how the TV news keeps slipping in pro Royal non stories in to almost every bulletin even though most complaints they receive are are about this very subject. With the BBC the most complaints about propaganda revolve around Royal non stories and bias in Israel news stories. The British establishment expects the public to tow the line and not question too much. I have monitored the way BBC, Sky, and ITV place the same stories in their bulletins and omit anything that is uncomfortable for the establishment line. They will drop really serious news just so they can fit in a non story such as “Prince Harry tripped on a bake bean today” in order to keep the brainwashing at full tilt. Surely you must have noticed this yourself. At this time in Syria and other parts of the middle east Christians are being beheaded, raped and tortured but non of this is allowed to reach us by mainstream TV news for the sake of “community cohesion”. And before someone shouts racist, I am not suggesting all Muslims are extremists I am just pointing out a plain and simple fact. All news is censored to some extent by the establishment and if they could they would censor the internet totally and this is already beginning now in China and Russia and will spread here soon. Yesterday the BBC had Owen Smith, Jeremy Corbyns challenger on the news channel answering questions from the public, he was given an easy time, I am now waiting for the BBC to give Jeremy Corbyn the same chance to answer questions but I have a sneaking suspicion he will get a lot of placed questions and a rude interview. Bias in the British media sticks out like a sore thumb for those with “eyes wide open”.

          • Dissidentdiva

The BBC, indeed all MSM have to toe the establishment line one way or another. I am terrified at the thought of internet censorship – we need truth. I have often wondered though, if the internet remains relatively untouched so the British establishment can monitor the extent of dissent amongst the populace – they had a wake up call with the Brexit vote, and will no doubt be watching carefully. especially with UC having its death grip on the nations poor.

            • Dd, that sounds very Orwellian (aka probably about right?) … @minitrue.com

            • But look at some sites, like that National Scot site that is often posted on here, you need a Fakebook account to post. Now imagine you have to ‘verify’ your Fakebook account, which Facebook already does, by sending off your passport/driving licence and a a recent utility bill/bank statement. Self-censorship….

            • Imagine you had to have a ‘verified’ Fakebook account to post on here… the Void would be as dead as a dodo… a deserted wasteland. 😀 They want us easily track-able and traceable so we are all scared to voice dissent…

              • Flook the Magnificent

Get yourself a false email address and use it to create a false Facebook account. You are then difficult to track and if you hide your IP address via a proxy or VPN, unless you’re suspected of criminality, no one would go to the trouble of finding you. Post under any identity you like, or, like me, use your own.

          • “Prince Harry tripped on a bake bean today” – OMG! That’s just awful!😦 How did that happen? Hope Prince Harry is OK! Best wishes to his Royal Highness!🙂

          • paultheswineherd

Truth Teller – Yes, I agree with you entirely. As I have said before I look at everything that I can find to try to get to the bottom of – sometimes stacks of lies from the tabloids, Sky & the BBC.
How on earth in a so-called ‘free press’ democracy are they allowed to get away with all of this. (dd – your comment is correct also!)
The problem is that so many ‘ordinary people’ believe all of the shit that is presented before them – they think that – ‘all the Tabloids tell the total truth’ – ‘Sky tells the total truth’ and the’ BBC tells the total truth’ – and as so many of us definitely know now – no they do not!

        • It sounds like sour grapes to me Paul as you seem to be scouring the net for these articles that are drumming up all the negative emotions about Brexit and then you’re posting links to them here. You personally may not be asking for a second referendum but a lot of REMAIN people are. In fact this diddy Owen Smith, the latest Bliarite stooge that they have put in Corbyn’s path, i’m sure was going on about that very thing.

          • It appears my observations have been backed up elsewhere.
            https://www.rt.com/uk/353891-bbc-media-bias-corbyn/

            • Good find ‘Truth’ and yes it’s so blatant now their attempts to try to use every dirty trick in the book to smear or discredit Corbyn. Corbyn represents real Labour with all it’s traditional values and the Bliarite stooges don’t want that. They want the kowtowing up to the giant corporations and all the disgusting practices that you would attribute to the Tory party not Labour.

              • Whatever Corbyn is the general public isn’t buying.

                • Yes Tim!
But you are actually proving my points about how establishment propaganda works. The majority of the public have little interest in Politics and even less interest in the rest of the population. They don’t give a shit about those suffering the brunt of the cuts, they just believe the lies they are told and vote Tory just as the media tells them to. It never ceases to amaze me how people just surviving in piss poor jobs and on piss poor wages still go out and vote Tory. Even if I had only one brain cell I would still be smart enough to know that the Tories will just screw me over as they have always done to the working classes. Is ain’t Rocket Science.

Also, I do not deliberately go out to scour the net for ‘negative’ stuff about Brexit – the press and the broadcast media do that on my behalf!
I wish to confirm that I do respect your wish to be out of the E.U.
And, yes also Owen Smith was indeed, at one point calling for a ‘second referendum’ (probably for his own ‘short-term political ambitions’.
From this moment on, I do not really care! After all, the PRESS and the MEDIA will now decide the final outcomes from now on. They have little, or no constraints on what they can ultimately print/broadcast and the vast majority of the stupid population will believe them. The die has been cast and we will all have to go along with everything that occurs from now on – whether that be good, or bad, in the end!🙂

“MICHAEL FOSTER, LABOUR DONOR, TAKES CORBYN TO COURT”

    ………and yet;

Separately, Labour is being sued by a group of its members over the decision to exclude 130,000 people who joined the party after 12 January from being able to vote in its leadership contest.

Harrison Grant, a London law firm, issued proceedings against Labour and McNicol on behalf of the members, who are crowdfunding to pay for the action.

In a statement, the group said: “We have called on the party to reconsider its decision, but it has not proven forthcoming. We believe the only way we can retrieve our rights is by taking the party to court.”

IS UK DEMOCRATIC WHEN A MASONIC JUDGE SELECTS WHO THE ELECTORATE CAN VOTE FOR?”

The Labour leadership challenger Owen Smith is facing calls to make sure Jeremy Corbyn is on the ballot if a judge rules on Thursday that the incumbent leader needs to collect nominations from MPs.

Manuel Cortes, the general secretary of the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) and a key backer of Corbyn, called on Smith to “show courage” and insist on a fair contest if the high court rules at 2pm that Corbyn is not automatically entitled to be on the ballot.

  167. The rumour mill is saying that by January 2017 all jobseekers will be forced onto universal jobmatch. And by 2017 the data collected will be passed to another platform and without human intervention a secret algorithm will determine if you have satisfied the conditions to be paid benefit or not.

    • Universal Jobmatch is now a condition of receiving un-employment benefits and thus has been a requirement for some time now; now that Universal credit is being rolled out slowly across all jobcentre areas. Without having a UJ account and an up-to-date CV on it, one can expect to wind up with a JSA sanction between four weeks and three months for refusal of actively seeking employment.

Without an active UJ account and no CV on it, JCP staff will do all they can to send this lack of information to a decision maker and stop JSA being allowed until one relents and kowtows to the corrupt DWP system.

      • Dissidentdiva

Hi, Fen! hope you have a good weekend.
        Re UJM…….
Claimants are now often ‘invited’ to attend group signing sessions (which are illegal and cannot be mandated) where they are pressured to allow advisor access to UJM accounts. I have a UJM account, but rarely use it, I am still refusing access, and as this is not a sanctionable ‘offence’ under the DWPs own guidance, through the Data Protection Act, will continue to do so.
Also, claimants are only required to have an ‘online presence’, which can be on job sites other than UJM.
DWP staff rely on claimants ignorance and fear of the system – which is why sanctions will never be outlawed. The threat of starvation is an excellent whip to beat the desperate poor with.
That the minimum amount of money to survive can be summarily withheld on the whims of DWP staff is, of course, an abomination and abuse of power.

Animals, but viscous, cruel and thoroughly evil animals. So viscous, cruel and evil that one naked ape sat at one end of a desk will wantonly starve to death another naked ape sat at the opposite end of the desk out of sheer vicious, abject cruelty. It was Emily Bronte who said that human beings were most akin to cats because they are so viscous, cruel and evil.

    • Flook the Magnificent

Universal Credit apparently now isn’t supposed to be completed until 2022 and nobody receiving old style benefits moved to it until 2019. Probably later than this. At present, thanks to EU data protection, although you do have to have a Universal Jobmatch account you DON’T have to give the DWP access to it and can’t be made to use it outside of a Jobcentre.

Personally I can’t imagine why anybody would allow the DWP to scrutinise their UJM account. For starters if you refuse the DWP access, which you can without fear of any kind of penalty, your Work Coach won’t be able to list jobs on it that you have to apply for or scrutinise your application and activity histories, possibly sanctioning you if your make an error or appear not to be active enough online to suit them.

Keep a written work diary and give that to your Work Coach instead.

Main thing: Deny the DWP access to your UJM account.

After Brexit it wouldn’t surprise me to see the digital privacy laws altered to force Universal Credit claimants to surrender this important right at some point in the future. But for now enjoy it. Don’t surrender your right to refuse to have Universal Jobmatch cookies planted on any computer outside of the Jobcentre, which makes UJM unusable outside of the Jobcentre if you choose to make it so.

“YET ANOTHER IAIN DUNCAN SMITH SLAYING OF A DISABLED MAN”

Parents of Scottish ‘fit for work’ suicide man back call for Iain Duncan Smith prosecution

    David.Barr_

The parents of a disabled man who took his own life after being wrongly found “fit for work” have backed attempts to persuade Scottish police to investigate the actions of former work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith.

David and Maureen Barr have both told Disability News Service (DNS) that Duncan Smith and former employment minister Chris Grayling should be prosecuted over their failure to address serious safety concerns about the work capability assessment (WCA).

Their son, also called David, and also from Fife, was just 28 when he took his own life on 23 August 2013.

Despite his history of significant mental distress, David’s parents believe the healthcare professional who assessed him – employed by the government contractor Atos – failed to contact their son’s GP or his psychiatrist for further information about his mental health.

When questioned afterwards by the Procurator Fiscal’s office – which investigates sudden deaths in Scotland – the assessor claimed he couldn’t remember if he had made any phone calls, according to David’s father.

The Atos assessor completed David’s assessment by concluding, in June 2013: “He reports self harm in the past. He reports he attempted an overdose six weeks ago but he would not say what he took.

“He reports he has had no thoughts of suicide since. The evidence overall suggests that he is not at substantial risk.”

Despite David appealing against the decision that he was fit for work, and telling the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in a letter that he had “serious mental health problems that prevent me from doing everyday tasks which means I cannot work at this moment in time”, the Atos advice was rubber-stamped by DWP decision-makers.

The decision that he was not eligible for employment and support allowance (ESA) was confirmed in a letter to David on 17 July 2013. A month later, he took his own life.

His death is one of three cases contained in a dossier submitted to Police Scotland by disabled activist John McArdle, from the user-led campaign network Black Triangle, in an attempt to persuade the force to open an investigation into Duncan Smith and Grayling.

McArdle wants Police Scotland to investigate the two former ministers for the Scottish criminal offence of wilful neglect of duty by a public official, because they failed to take steps to improve the WCA in 2010 after being warned by a coroner that its flaws risked causing future deaths of people with mental health conditions.

Police Scotland has been handed details of three people – including David Barr – who died in the years after the coroner sent his letter to DWP, and whose deaths campaigners believe could have been prevented if the two ministers had acted on that warning.

The force is currently awaiting further information about the three cases before deciding what action to take.

This week, David Barr’s parents spoke of their hope for justice for their much-loved son, whose death they believe could have been avoided if Duncan Smith and Grayling had taken action.

David Barr senior said his son’s mental health had deteriorated in the last couple of years of his life, but he had previously been able to work intermittently in agriculture and labouring, while his final job, which ended in 2011, was cleaning buses.

By the time he died he was no longer capable of working, his dad said, and he was taking strong medication including anti-psychotics and anti-depressants, and was experiencing paranoid delusions.

David’s father, a bus driver, said: “His mind was gone, and anybody who assessed him should have seen that.”

He told DNS this week that he was fully behind attempts to secure a prosecution.

He said: “If we let a defective bus in the road [and it killed someone] we would be up for manslaughter; that’s why these people should be taken to court.

“They are talking about taking the former prime minister to court for war crimes, but this is just as bad, if not worse. They knew about it and did nothing about it.

“The whole thing is shocking. The ministers in charge of it should have sorted something out, stopped it, changed it, re-directed it, I don’t know what.”

He added: “If I see Duncan Smith on the TV, I just have to walk out, turn it off. I hate the man with a vengeance.

“He has known what was going on and he did nothing about it. He wants to be dragged over the coals for this, and if I can help in any way I will.”

David’s mother Maureen – David senior’s ex-wife – also backed calls for a criminal prosecution.

She said: “It is time someone did something. [Otherwise] there will just be more like David and nothing is ever done.

“It makes you feel terrible that they should have done something [and didn’t].”

His father is certain that the decision to turn down David’s ESA claim was the trigger that led to his decision to kill himself, against a background of continuing financial pressures.

He remembers finding his son’s WCA report and all of his other official paperwork scattered over the floor of his flat after he died.

He said: “It was just dumped all over the floor; anything to do with anything official, he’d just had enough of it. That’s when I picked it up and read through it, this 33-page assessment.”

David’s mother Maureen said she believed the “fit for work” decision was “definitely” the trigger for his decision to take his own life.

She said: “It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

Several weeks after he died, two DWP officials visited the family and admitted that David should have been receiving ESA instead of jobseeker’s allowance for nearly two years.

David’s father said: “They were here for about an hour-and-a-half explaining everything. But these two – through Iain Duncan Smith – had killed my son, and I said this to them.

“They knew that what they had done was wrong and I said to them, ‘Had it been your children in my son’s situation, would you have acted the same way?’ They couldn’t answer that.

“I gave it to them with both barrels and they walked out with their tails between their legs, but it didn’t bring my son back.”

DWP paid the family £2,700 in compensation for the extra social security support David had not received while he was alive (the difference between the jobseeker’s allowance he received and the ESA he should have been receiving).

Maureen Barr said: “They turned around and said, ‘I don’t suppose it will help now, but we have reversed the decision.’

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought, ‘What good is that to him now

  170. Tory policies should ‘undergo a mental health impact assessment’, say Labour.

A survey of 2,000 workers, by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), found that 31% have experienced some form of mental health problem during their working life, up from 26% in 2011. Four in ten of these had experienced a mental health issue in the last 12 months, to an extent that had affected their health and wellbeing. – sanctions while on workfare.

    However

The Tories continue to ignore advice about assessing the effect their policies might have on the mental health of the population.

“A workforce that feels supported and valued will be more motivated and productive at work.” if all are paid the NMW they would.

There’s also a clear role for HR professionals and line managers to ensure that employees are getting the support they need and feel they can speak up. but what will happen if they do?

    A change in the law.

You need a TV Licence to for BB iPlayer😀

As as 1st September 2016, a change in the law means you need to be covered by a TV Licence to download or watch BBC programmes on demand – including catch-up TV – on BBC iPlayer. This applies to all devices, including a smart TV, desktop computer or laptop, mobile phone, tablet, digital box or games console.

Even if you access BBC iPlayer through another provider, such as Sky, Virgin Media, Freeview or BT, you must have a TV Licence.😀

As before, you still need a TV Licence to watch or record any live TV channel, not matter what device you use. 😀

PS This is an official😀 warning that we are carrying out an investigation😀 of your address😀

WE DO NEED NEED A FUCKING ‘TV LICENCE’ – FUCK OFF!!

    • There’s absolutely fuck all to watch on any of the Freeview channels unless you want to see the same film showing twice in the same week, or twice within three months. Bad enough when the ITV channels show a 16:9 widescreen film zoomed into 14:9 in order to get rid of the top and bottom letterbox black bars, thus losing the extreme left and right of the film frame and some important scenery detail or characters, or they have five minutes of adverts for every 12 to 15 minutes of film shown, padding out a two hour movie to nearly three hours.

Either show the fucking film in full 16:9 and quit the adverts for barely 12 minutes of film, or stop showing them altogether. Bad enough when bits of film and/or the end credits are chopped up to remove or reduce language, violence, important secondary plot lines and less end credit times.

dd – thank you for finding this and for putting this on. This also confirms what Marie, Fen and too many other contributors to this site have had to put up with. A cruel Coalition/Tory Government and equally cruel and uncaring set of so-called Charities and Companies who will try to get good, hard working people to work for absolutely nothing. (And the hypocritical M.P.’s say that ‘slavery’ has to be stamped out in Britain. Disgraceful – but at last, in the ‘more truthful’ press, it has finally been exposed for exactly what it has been and what has happened for so many years!

      • I had to do bl00dy workfare programmes over many years ranging from YTS, New Deal, Flexible New Deal, MWP four weeks, MWP two years, MWP six months and finally two weeks employability course all designed to help me back into work, either through un-paid work with various charity shops or proper business.

All what the fuck did I have to show for at the end of each one? An up-dated CV which was previously stated by a prior training scheme as sub-standard. Each time going on a training scheme meant my CV was re-done a different way. CV writing is a key part of attending job training schemes and placement programmes to justify them in the first place. I had my CV updated twice during two years attending Papworth Trust. Six months after leaving I had my CV done again differently by Seetec as they deemed my CV to be un-presentable to any employer. And yet both schemes do the same thing and are paid in part by DWP to get results.

All those businesses that took me as placement could have given me proper waged employment. But no, they refused and instead took money basically from me through government and European social fund grants to pay for the running of the stupid scheme.

No amount of CV updating and jobsearching, either through papers, cold-calling, spec letters or internet access at any scheme I was ever on got me a proper job that pays me f9cking money at a decent minimum wages. I was just used as a cash cow in order to justify lowering the un-employment figures by one (me), to give me the pretence all these schemes made me more employable than if I sat on my ass all day at home watching Jeremy Kyle, and a cash cow to keep the government payments rolling in to the likes of Seetec, A4E, Papworth Trust and others I have no desire to mention as they are all cunts as far as I am concerned.

Not one scheme will ever take credit for me now back in full time employment as I got this job (by Indeed.co.uk) of my own back and through my personal tried and tested own methods of seeking work, not through training schemes ideas of seeking and applying for work.

Named and shamed in no particular order of attendance for using me as cheap un-paid labour and a easy cash cow to keep them going –

        *N.A.C.R.O YTS (Three Years) Wisbech
*Shackelton Associates – New Deal (Six Months, Peterborough
*Papworth Trust flexible New Deal (Two Years), Wisbech
A4E (One Year) Flexible New Deal at King’s Lynn
*Seetec (Twice – four weeks then later again six months) Wisbech

Special interest must be noted for CCORRN community paint recycling depot, Martin’s Avenue, March, Cambs for trying to poison me with toxic paint fumes in a non-ventilated building all in the name of helping me back into work and boosting my employability skills for work.

If that slimey cunt of a manager is reading this. If you are paid wages, how much? I bet it isn’t nearly as much as I get each week. And also how many other people before and after I was there had to be a placement through Seetec or other training scheme you were eager to have in return for £250 a week attendance payments? If I ever see him again his head will be put through one of the saw machines I work off and his carcass kicked into the waste incinerator as fuel.

  177. Corbyn pledges to scrap Labour union laws in favour of collective bargaining.

Jeremy Corbyn would require companies with more than 250 employees to accept new industrial laws under which they would have to recognise a specific union with which to bargain over pay.

Aides to the Labour leader said a Corbyn government would “repeal” 1999 union legislation that was passed by a Labour government to introduce a new French-style framework of union rights.

The best way to guarantee fair pay is through strengthening unions’ ability to bargain collectively – giving employees the right to organise through a union and negotiate their pay, terms and conditions at work,” he writes.

Corbyn also proposes that all employees be given guaranteed hours which must be specified and written into a contract – bringing an end to zero-hour contracts. If an employer wants workers to work beyond those hours, they must specify the length of additional work along with a reason for asking.

An employer will also have to give reasonable compensation, akin to an “on-call” payment to an employee, for agreeing to make themselves available for additional work, whether they are ultimately asked to do so or not.

“Economic failure is a central reason why people are no longer prepared to accept politics as usual, across the advanced industrial world,” Corbyn writes.

      Moving on…..
IDS and the rest of the ventriloquist dummies could not organize a piss up in a brewery let alone workfair and welfare reforms.

Its the people and organizations you can’t see, that pull the strings.
IDS was the lighting rod to protect the real corporations and thinktanks behind deaths, misery and the on coming apocalypse of the DWP.

      Problem, reaction, solution.
IDS knew he was going to get the flack for the shitstorm, but the lure of a six figure salary, government protection and expenses made it all worth his while.

      • Stick that shiny headed tosser Smith into the gas chamber for all the crimes against humanity he inflicted upon us

    • paultheswineherd

Another Fine Recession – Theresa May is just another hypocrite when she talks about ‘modern slavery’. Her own Government (and Labour also in the past) have been guilty of producing shameful ‘workfare’ type programmes – (just as Fen very rightly describes also above in his very good post)
The very act that was constituted to banish ‘modern slavery’ really describes ‘workfare’ also.
“The Modern Slavery act 2015 states an offence is committed if someone holds another in slavery or servitude or requires them to perform forced or compulsory labour”
What then is ‘workfare’? The above “quote” from this very Act perfectly describes it! And, yet the DWP and it’s ‘stakeholders’ have been allowed to do just this as described!

    • Just had a look at that list and what strikes me is un-employed people are not draining government yearly spending as they like to otherwise spout off.

      Un-employment £2.2 billion
      Central Government £10.1 billion

Government are the real thieves when it comes to the money game. The poor, disabled, injured, sick, pensioners and un-employed are just easy pawns and diverting targets away from true governmental spending figures. If the £2.2 billion was wiped out by scrapping all benefit payments £10.1 billion would rise to £12.1 billion yearly. Greedy tory cunts.

  179. The launch of Theresa May’s campaign against modern slavery is laudable – until you realise there is one form of slavery she actively promotes.

You might say that wage slavery does not involve anything like the kind of abuse that is associated with the other forced workers – but you’d probably be wrong.

As Mrs May said herself, “People are enduring experiences that are simply horrifying in their inhumanity” – and that goes for people who are forced to seek paid work of the most demeaning kinds, simply to make ends meet.

Employers will force pay and conditions down, exploit their workers brutally, inflict psychological torture on them, just to keep them docile. This Writer has seen it – perhaps you have too.

That’s just fine by Theresa May.

Look at today’s (July 31) report about student debt – released concurrently with the launch of Mrs May’s campaign.

It says, “Having to pay back student debts will wipe out any graduate premium for most professions, claims the Intergenerational Foundation in a report.”

Meanwhile the government is still telling us higher education boosts employability and earnings.

So the cream of UK academia is lured into huge debts that will hang over them for most, if not all, of their working life.

Meanwhile the rest of us – those who can find work in the first place – are already under the cosh because employers know their only restriction is the ‘National Living Wage’ – which doesn’t pay enough for anyone to survive without benefits.

And the benefit system is deliberately skewed to withhold payments from claimants.

“Workie” – i.e .the £8.5 million coloured ‘womble’ that Ros Altmann and her minions in the Work & Pensions Dept. created and wasted a load of taxpayer’s money on the advertising campaign associated with it) has been doing the rounds on the TV this evening. This Government seems to have cobbled together an ill thought out scheme to try to get someone (as early in their working life as possible) to contribute to. “It is the law” and your “employer” has to contribute to it also.
I can honestly see this lot collapsing many years from now – not least as there are likely to be a while lot more “Sir” Phillip Greens of this world out there! What protection will there be? I fear very little, or none at all.
It could be BHS and many more all over again. And then, the pensions will be lost and the ‘pensioners’ will totally lose out (as the BHS ones at the moment are still potentially likely to)

In 1966 the powerful Cathy Come Home shone a light on the desperate housing problems gripping Britain at the time. When the programme first aired, the extent of the crisis shocked the nation – 3 million people were living in slums or stuck in a brutal private renting market. It was a far cry from the popular notion of the swinging 60s.

Cathy Come Home showed the general public the kind of horror that poor citizens faced and so shocked them that the government took action. These days, after years and years demonising benefit claimants and the poor, the public has become desensitised and even warmly disposed towards harsh treatment of the voiceless and the struggling. People once had morals and compassion which seem to have been replaced these days by mortgages and aloofness. Look about you. Homelessness blooms like a poisonous weed and millions queue at food banks to stave off hunger and malnutrition. Such things would once have inspired ordinary men and women to take to the streets in protest. Where is the uproar now? Where is the shock felt now? Nobody cares any more. No one give a shit. And this is why the Conservative government has got away with murder, yes, murder. Looking ahead I personally see no end to the suffering, death and misery.

The world turned and the bad guys won.

I realise that this is ‘old news’, but it is still worth having a good look at!
Iain Duncan Smith’s ‘Flagship’ part of his own ‘Welfare Reforms’ – IDS wanted up to 7 million people to be on Universal Credit by June 2015 – the present total (as of July 2016) is around 250,000 at most – all are ‘single’ people with no families at all – the ‘easiest’ to deal with (via the U.C. Software). ‘Full’ families will come later – ‘Yeah’!!!
Universal Credit will, I would have thought, be dead in the water before too long. It is way ‘out of budget’ – it is far too ‘slow’ in it’s implementation and unless the ‘new’ Work & Pensions Secretary, Damian Green, soon gets it finally up to speed, then he could be out of a job and out on his ear!

    • Flook the Magnificent

I think UC has only been delayed to be honest. I really can’t see the government admit that the thing was shite from the word go and, after spending so much and basing a lot of their financial policy on savings eventually made from cuts to entitlements via Universal Credit, well, I can’t see them cutting their losses and scrapping it.

The shit will really hit the fan in July 2019 when claimants on legacy benefits beginto get transferred onto Universal Credit – if it happens then of course and isn’t further delayed. Considering the next general election, supposing one doesn’t happen sooner, is pencilled in to be held in 2020, I doubt that any sitting government would want a UC shitstorm happening in 2019 and so would bet that the migration of all benefit claimants to UC won’t really occur until after May 2020 i it happens at all.

With no easy way to save face my bet is that the government will carry on with Universal Credit only much more slowly and much more carefully. But like cancer the thing has spread too far now to eradicated.

      “THE DWP’S LATEST VICTIM”

A mum was embroiled in a row over benefits before she took her own life, an inquest heard.

Joanne Smith was involved in an ongoing dispute with the Department of Work and Pensions over sick pay before her death, Teesside Coroner’s Court was told.

The 46-year-old was found hanged at her Middlesbrough home on June 29.

Ms Smith had lived at her home on Wakefield Road, in Linthorpe , for 30 years.

She had two children to partner Lee Grace, who said he believed the dispute was the reason for her depressed state of mind.

In a statement read out to the inquest, he said: “I don’t know for sure but I think Joanne was depressed.

“She had a sick note but the DWP had stopped paying her and this did upset her.”

Ms Smith suffered from asthma and arthritis. Her knee was badly damaged in a car accident when she was just 11, the inquest heard.

She had no history of depression or suicide attempts in the past.

Mr Grace added: “She seemed to have mood swings but generally she was in good spirits and appeared happy.

“I had no indication that Joanne would do anything to harm herself.”

Acting senior coroner Clare Bailey was told that Ms Smith had been been “joking and messing about” with her son Lee Smith just hours before he found her.

In a statement Mr Smith said: “I said goodbye to her and left the house to go on a training course.

“I can remember her saying, ‘I love you’, as I left which I thought was unusual and I locked the door with my key.

“The night before and the morning she died, my mam appeared to be acting normally. She seemed her usual happy self.

“We had been joking and messing about. The only unusual thing was when she said ‘I love you’.

No family was present at the hearing.

A post-mortem examination report found that Ms Smith died as a result of hanging.

Recording a conclusion that Ms Smith had taken her own life, Ms Bailey said: “Joanne was not under the influence of drugs and it seems highly unlikely that she was under the influence of alcohol.

“Considering all the evidence, I do believe I am able to satisfy the legal requirements and will therefore be recording a conclusion that Joanne died by committing suicide.”

A DWP spokesman said: “This is clearly a very sad case and suicide is a complex issue, but it isn’t right to link it solely to a person’s benefit claim.”

  190. “CAPITA EMPLOYS EVIL SHITBAGS THAT GLOAT ON STEALING DISABILITY BENEFITS”

Capita suspends assessor after disablist, racist Facebook posts

A disability benefits assessor with extreme right-wing sympathies has been suspended by the government contractor Capita after she posted disablist, racist comments about social security claimants on her Facebook page.

The posts were spotted by Sarah Goldstein, whose claim for personal independence payment (PIP) had been turned down following an assessment carried out by the qualified nurse.

Goldstein has significant support needs as a result of fibromyalgia, Raynaud’s syndrome, chronic migraines, anxiety and depression, and she was so angry and upset by the “lies” she read in the nurse’s assessment report that she searched online for her social media accounts. She says she was appalled by what she found.

On one occasion, in July 2014, while apparently watching an episode of the Channel 5 reality show Benefits Britain: Life On The Dole, the nurse posted a series of comments about a Roma gypsy who used a skateboard as a mobility aid because he lost his legs as a child in Romania.

In the documentary, he talked positively about the lack of racism in Britain and how he hoped to make a life for himself by working here, and how he had worked as a film extra.

But in one Facebook post, the nurse said: “So it’s not very nice life on a skate board!!!!! He could get a job fitting carpets then maybe just maybe our pensioners could have the retirement they deserve!!!!!!!”

She then added: “I’d like to remove his wheels and catapult the scrounger back to whatever shit hole he came from!!!!”

After seeing these and other posts, Goldstein asked Capita to launch an investigation.

Her husband, Jay, her full-time carer, said the posts made his wife feel “sick” and “upset” at the thought that the nurse had been in their home.

He said: “Sarah hasn’t eaten or slept properly in the last week because of all this. It’s really upsetting for me to watch.”

Disability News Service has found a string of other disturbing posts on the nurse’s Facebook page, showing her far-right sympathies.

In one disturbing Facebook message, posted in April 2014, believed to be just after she started working as a PIP assessor for Capita, she said: “Not sure if a new job [is] supposed to feel like community pay back lol!!”

She has also shared a string of Facebook posts attacking immigrants and asylum-seekers from far-right organisations like Britain First, British Immigration Watch, and Infidels of Britain, including one headlined “Enoch Powell was right!”

Her far-right sympathies also raise questions as to whether the assessment report she wrote was influenced by Sarah’s and Jay’s surname.

Although Sarah is not Jewish, her husband is, and they have a menorah, a nine-branched Jewish candelabrum, on the mantelpiece in the room where the assessment took place.

The assessor visited the Goldsteins at their home in Derbyshire for the assessment earlier this year.

The couple had not been concerned during the assessment itself, but when they received a copy of the assessment report they were horrified.

Jay Goldstein said: “She was very quiet. She would ask questions and would then type a lot. But when we got the report back she had literally lied about everything.”

The report claims that Sarah maintained perfect eye contact throughout the assessment, when in fact, Jay said, she had been “visibly agitated, picking at the skin on her hands”.

He said: “Sarah was facing away from her because she has anxiety issues and didn’t feel comfortable looking at her.”

The nurse also claimed that Sarah had perfect understanding of the questions, whereas Jay said his wife repeatedly “um-ed and ah-ed” and kept looking at her husband for help.

Among other errors, she said Sarah had given birth to their 13-month-old daughter AJ naturally, when the assessor did not even ask how she had given birth, which was through a caesarean.

She also wrote that Sarah could go to the shops and bring back shopping, when in fact she has to shop online, with help from her husband, who puts away the shopping when it is delivered.

As a result of the assessment, Sarah was given zero points and found ineligible for PIP, even though she is in the support group of employment and support allowance, which means she has been assessed as having significant barriers to the workplace.

The decision on Sarah’s claim for PIP – which is supposed to cover some of the extra disability-related costs disabled people face – was rubber-stamped by a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) decision-maker and then approved again through DWP’s own mandatory reconsideration process.

The decision to turn down her claim means Sarah will not be able to apply for a Motability vehicle, which would have made it easier for them to take AJ out of the house, and means she cannot secure other support linked to PIP, such as a disabled persons railcard.

Although Jay can take AJ out on his own, he cannot leave his wife alone at home for long, and without a car they are rarely able to go out as a family.

Her husband said the family would survive without PIP, but he said: “It would be nice if we were given the help that we really need.”

He added: “This isn’t about the money, it’s about the way Sarah has been treated. The system needs to be made a lot safer.”

Gail Ward, a member of the disabled people’s campaigning organisations Black Triangle and the North East branch of Disabled People Against Cuts, who alerted Disability News Service to the case, said the disablist comments on the Facebook page were “appallingly reflective of what many disabled people have to endure daily, which have been made worse by the government’s rhetoric”, while the racist comments “were just as shocking”.

She said the nurse should be “sacked forthwith” and prosecuted for inciting racial hatred.

Ward said the calibre of some healthcare professionals hired by government contractors such as Capita was “alarming”, while the quality of assessments for both PIP and ESA was sub-standard.

She said she was “concerned at the amount of genuine claimants who were losing their cars and jobs due to being wrongly denied PIP, only to be given it back at appeal”.

And she said that disabled people were living in fear of losing the “vital safety net” of support through PIP and ESA, with billions of pounds wasted on repeated, flawed assessments.

She said: “Disabled people do not object to being assessed periodically, as this has always been the case, but they do feel they are being deliberately targeted and live in fear of what campaigners call ‘brown envelope syndrome’.”

A Capita spokesman said: “The individual was suspended as soon as we were made aware of the allegations, and further investigations are taking place.

“All prospective assessors are subject to strict security and vetting checks. We also have strict policies in place which govern the use of social media.”

Capita has told the Goldsteins this week that the report completed by the nurse would not have been approved if it had been randomly selected for a quality audit, and that they would now send another healthcare assessor to carry out a fresh assessment.

“MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION CHARITY, MHF, LINKS UP WITH UNUM HEALTHCARE”

………THE WORLDS WORST OUTLAW HEALTHCARE INSURANCE PROVIDER……

A mental health charity has been heavily criticised for its decision to announce a partnership with a controversial US insurance giant that has made significant financial gains from government incapacity benefit reforms that it influenced through its lobbying.

The Mental Health Foundation (MHF) said the new partnership with Unum would see the two organisations work together to tackle the stigma of mental health in the workplace and encourage employers to safeguard the mental health of their employees.

But disabled activists who learned of the partnership this week are horrified that a mental health charity would join forces with an organisation that has made money from the controversial programme to reform incapacity benefits, and has bragged about steering government policy on those reforms.

They point out that many thousands of people with mental distress have either died or had their health further damaged by the reforms.

Mo Stewart, the disabled activist who has led efforts in the UK to raise concerns about Unum’s influence, has written to a trustee of the charity to alert him to the company’s background.

She told Disability News Service (DNS) she had “spent the past six years researching the links between this American insurance corporate giant with the British government*, their funding of a research centre to produce policy-based research that was used to justify the introduction of the fatally flawed WCA, and the fact that they were identified as the second worst healthcare insurance company in America”.

“A mum of three from Beckenham was left shaken after a Bromley Jobcentre worker accidentally left an answerphone message seemingly accusing her of being a “scrounging bastard that’s popping out kids like pigs”, it has been reported.”

Cecilia Garcia, 44, says she had to give up a job in finance following a difficult marital breakup to care for her three children. Unable to afford the rent, Mrs Garcia reached out for support from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Last Friday, Mrs Garcia checked her answerphone messages and found a message from jobcentre worker Ann Goode, asking her to get in touch to discuss her benefits claim.

However, Goode didn’t hang up properly and can be heard angrily discussing the case with a colleague.

Unaware she was being recorded, Goode first began talking with her colleague about how much Mrs Garcia was receiving in benefits.

“That’s almost a thousand pounds a month – 12,000 a year”, she can be overheard saying.

The cruel and “offensive” jobcentre employee can then be heard referring to Mrs Garcia’s name. “This is Cecilia Garcia. None of them are English names”, says Goode.

In reality, Mrs Garcia has dual Mexican-British nationality and all her three children – aged eight, six and four – were born in the UK.

Goode continues: “I don’t … I just don’t … why are we running around for these people?

“Do you know I resent even doing this work because if I had a person who said I really want a job, I want to go on your case load, yes, all the time, every day of the week.

“But not some scrounging bastard that’s popping out kids like pigs.”

“I’m going to get very politically incorrect this afternoon.”

Rather than being taken aback by Goode’s offensive comments, her jobcentre colleague can be heard saying: “You are, aren’t you? And I don’t blame you one bit”.

Speaking to News Shopper, Mrs Garcia said: “I got sick, I was so upset over the weekend.

“It is really offensive all the things that she says on the voicemail. And it sounds like the other person totally agrees with her.

“The fact that they say things like ‘oh they aren’t even English names’ – this goes beyond everything, saying I pop out kids like pigs.

“I have dual nationality, we did everything right, I’m not illegal. She shouldn’t express this about people from other backgrounds.”

Mrs Garcia says she noticed a change in people’s attitude toward those of a non-British background since the EU referendum.

“We could speak Spanish on the bus or train with no problems but now I tell my children not to speak Spanish in public places because I feel people looking at us like ‘what are they doing here?”, she said.

Mrs Garcia added: “Living on benefits you live on the edge. I study, I have a finance degree. I am trying to go back to work but I had to stop working because I have three children.

“I understand people say that a lot of people are taking benefits but not every single case is the same.”

A DWP spokesperson said they’re taking the incident “extremely seriously” and have launched an investigation.

      • An investigation ha, ha, on what, how to humiliate people on benefits even more.
