How The DWP Is Drafting In Doctors To Promote Iain Duncan Smith’s Warped Ideology

fit-note-guidanceAre you working hard enough?  Are you sure?  What if you get sick, or have an accident?  Are you prepared to go to work anyway, even if you don’t think it would be good for your health?  What if your doctor and boss agree you could do something other than your usual job instead of malingering at home?  Like making cups of tea all day, or cleaning the bogs, or any form of work your empoyer can dream up to force you not to take time off.  Because that is now the chilling reality as the DWP attempts to inject Iain Duncan Smith’s warped ideology into the NHS.

Last week the DWP issued patronising new guidance to GPs on when they should issue a Fit Note.  Doctors are warned of the dangers of ‘worklessness’ and told they must consider “the vital role that work can play in your patient’s health”.  According to the department, “the evidence is clear that patients benefit from being in some kind of regular work”.

This is an outright lie.  What the evidence says is that on balance most people might be better off working but the beneficial health effects depend on the nature and quality of that work.  In the report on which the DWP’s claims are based – a paper incidentally commissioned by the DWP themselves – the authors actually warn that “a minority of people may experience contrary health effects from work”.

This study – called Is Work Good For Your Health and Well Being (pdf) – has formed the basis of government policy ever since the Labour administration launched the despised Work Capability Assessment for out of work sickness benefits in 2008.  It features a reasonably wide-ranging review of the evidence of the health risks and benefits of work and concludes that work, on balance, is better for most people’s health than unemployment but with important caveats.  These findings have been consistently misrepresented by politicians who have used them to claim that any kind of work is good for health, and that this applies to everybody.

The study found that in some cases – possibly 5-10% – unemployment can lead to improved health and well being.  It warns that negative health impacts of unemployment are “at least partly mediated through socioeconomic
status” – meaning it is not work that is good for you, but poverty that is bad for you.   The review points out that whilst the evidence is conflicting, shift work and long hours could have a weak negative impact on health.  It also finds that school leavers who move into ‘unsatisfactory’ employment can experience a
decline in their health and that economically secure people who retire early may experience beneficial effects on their health.   Even if this report is taken at face value – and it comes loaded with assumptions about the social and moral imperatives of work – all it shows is that work can be good for your health – but only if it’s a good quality well paid job.

If you are in low paid or insecure work then what your GP should tell you – based on the existing evidence – is to take a few days off if you aren’t happy or feel unwell.  Perhaps they should warn that you might be one of the 5 or 10% of people who are healthier if they are unemployed, despite the loss of income.  A more recent study carried out in Australia, and quoted on The Conversation, found that people “who moved into poor-quality jobs showed a significant worsening in their mental health compared to those who remained unemployed.”

What the new guidance to GPs is intended to do is impose workplace dicipline via the healthcare system.  Much like a seven day NHS is a health service for bosses, not patients, and likely to lead to pressure on workers not to book medical appointments in working hours, the Fit Note scheme is designed to bully people into the workplace even if they are sick.  That is why the guidance states that if GPs consider their patient could do any work at all, regardless of their usual job, then they should tick a box suggesting amended duties, or workplace adapatations rather than issue a full Fit Note.  And if doctors are too squeamish to treat patients this way then they are instructed to refer them to Maximus – the shadowy US conglomerate brought in carry out health assessments under the new Fit For Work scheme.

To help doctors decide what is best for their patients, or more correctly their patient’s employers, the new Fit Note guidance features case studies, with recommended courses of action that GPs should take.  They include an example of someone diagnosed with anxiety disorder who says that her work in customer services is giving her panic attacks and that she is too distressed to carry out her duties.  According to the DWP her doctor should first warn her that working is important for her mental health and “remind her that there are still other things that she can do – for example, physical tasks or back-room duties.”  This will help her feel more positive according to the department.  Then she should be referred to Maximus who will develop  a plan with her boss, such as sending her on a course to learn coping techniques, or doing quieter shifts.  And of course bosses, being always right and always reasonable, will not abuse this new power to force sick employees into the workplace.

Yet even the most bullying of bosses are to be accommodated according to the DWP.  Another case study features someone – a woman again – who complains that a poor relationship with her manager is causing her severe stress.  She says the manager has been ‘really horrible’ to her and she feels unable to cope.  Rather than raise any concerns about what seems to indicate workplace bullying however, her doctor is instructed to declare she does not have a health problem and she should speak to her human resources department, or union rep.  She should not be issued with a Fit Note and her GP should explain that they are “acting with her health interests in mind.”  It is better for her health to be bullied and abused in the workplace than be workless, even for a short while, according to the DWP.

The introduction of this guidance makes it clear that the scroungers vs scroungers narrative is now impeding on healthcare even amongst those who are not on benefits.  It is not hyperbole to suggest that the credibility of doctors is now at stake.  For too long the entire healthcare sector has remained silent whilst scientific evidence is distorted to further the ideology of modern capitalism and increase the power of employers over their staff.  Any GP who believes in evidence over rhetoric should tell Iain Duncan Smith to stick these guidelines up his fucking arse.  Anything else is a betrayal of the role of doctors as guardians of our health and well being.

  1. If anybody says something to me that I don’t like I retaliate and it doesn’t matter how big they are I wade in so it could be said I am a danger to myself or others, normally others, I have a 100% record on that and mostly against males that are bigger than me.

    • Those obscenely overpaid NHS ahem.. ‘professionals’ have been turning a willfully negligent blind eye to all of the DWP’s criminal abuse for years.
And now they are being asked to collaborate a bit more… of course they will, kerching.
      .

      • I was a staff nurse in accident and emergency. I was retired out on ill health grounds after really bad spinal surgery. Had to learn to walk again. 10 yrs later I still have acute pain and problems associated with the poor surgery. My gp said I’m not fit for work. But that means nothing to dwp who kicked me off benefits despite going to tribunal. It’s worth noting that at NO TIME did I have a meeting with a MEDICAL professional from dwp. None of which helps my mental health!

        • Invasion of the 'Decision Makers'

DWP don’t have MEDICAL professionals or any other kind of professional for that matter 😀 DWP have ‘decision makers’ 😀

          • The DWP don’t have ‘decision makers’, they have ‘Criminal Abusers’.

        • Sheena the system they had with Atos and now Maximus is the same people are doomed before their appointment with the charlatan medical professional. In litigation if someone has non visible injuries and they try to sue their employer solicitors for the company and employee are all insured by Royal Sun Alliance. Then when I found out my injuries were covered up as I had written evidence I could not get a lawyer to represent me, and I found out the complaints systems were actually protection systems for professionals. The new setup of the DWP is doing the same covering up peoples medical problems because they are now in their view economic units not human beings. And the NHS complaints system is non existent just like complaining to the Law Society of Scotland or the General Medical Council. Finally if it were not for people like you I would be dead.

        • Sheena, look up the ‘Benefits and Work’ website (has facebook page too). It was set up by lawyers and advisors and is independent of government who is not happy with them for helping the likes of us. Don’t give up. Good luck!

‘Where this includes the linkage of social security benefits to the receipt of “state therapy”, as announced in the chancellor’s latest budget, this is totally unacceptable. “Get to work therapy” is manifestly not therapy at all. With the ominous news that Maximus (the US company replacing Atos to do work capability assessments) will also be managing the new national Fit for Work programme, it is time for the field’s key professional organisations to wake up to these malign developments, and unequivocally denounce such so-called “therapy” as damaging and professionally unethical. More generally, the wider reality of a society thrown completely off balance by the emotional toxicity of neoliberal thinking is affecting Britain in profound ways, the distressing effects of which are often most visible in the therapist’s consulting room.’

    • Professor Stephen Hawking

The work done by a constant force of magnitude F on a point that moves a displacement (not distance) s in the direction of the force is the product,

      W = Fs.

For example, if a force of 10 newtons (F = 10 N) acts along a point that travels 2 metres (s = 2 m), then it does the work W = (10 N)(2 m) = 20 N m = 20 J. This is approximately the work done lifting a 1 kg weight from ground to over a person’s head against the force of gravity. Notice that the work is doubled either by lifting twice the weight the same distance or by lifting the same weight twice the distance.

      Work = Force x Displacement 😉

So we all do “work” 🙂

  7. Why should any doctor stand by him after the shafting he’s giving to them over the past five and a half years, none of them should, has hammered them right, left and centre, no doctor should show any loyalty to this odious, little turd of a man and none to his fellow tory chum CHunt either who’s busy destroying the NHS, it proves how desperate they are to dream up this little stunt to fool the people that many still support their crusade in dismantling all of the services in this country.

I’m gutted now my GP gave me 8 weeks to recover from stress and depression this caused and to give migraine meds time to kick in. Really I should have continued working and enduring as it would have been better for me!!

Since there is no one unemployed any more every one has a job & needs Medical Health Insurance Policies wrapped up in one benefit called UC Universal Credit. It also fits with the ESA50 bogus form questionnaire Term & Conditions you agree to by signing it. You are letting the DWP control all medical facts to lies & knows what is best for you like getting medication at the Jobcentre instead of the chemist. Also since no GP evidence is used or looked at when doing the ESA50 & WCA.. A vetting system to get hold of a public form. 150 – 200 people are having their mobility scooters taken away each week. Here is one for the GP`s – I am only disabled because I have never learnt to tie my shoelaces which means I ca n`t get to the office. Do you really expect me to go down the street in my socks & then get on a train in my socks !!!!!! The Care Of Duty is being breached. In the DWP Terms & condition it also says by agreeing the DWP hold no responsibility.

    10 October 2015

My disabled nephew who has autism; learning difficulties, dispraxia
and other problems has been found fit for work and one of the
questions his mother rose [in his appeal papers] was: ‘If he’s
stressed he will lash out and who will take responsibility if he
    hurts someone?’

This raised an interesting question and what I [& my nephew’s
family] would like to ask is:

    1) Since corporate manslaughter is an offence in UK law, how
culpable in law are you if someone physically or mentally disabled,
terminally ill, mentally ill or with degenerating-health problems
whom you have deemed fit for work [by a WCA] is forced back into or
into work or the work programme and they:

    i) kill or injure a third party by accident?
ii) kill or injure a third party by personal attack?
    iii) injure themselves by accident?
iv) or they kill themselves by accident?

New ‘fit for work’ scheme to assess patients by telephone

      PulseToday – 26th Jan 2015

GPs will no longer need to issue sick notes for patients off work for longer than four weeks under a new occupational health scheme to be launched in the Spring.

But the Government has admitted the service will only offer face-to-face consultations with occupational therapists in a ‘minority’ of cases – the majority being dealt with over the phone or online.

The new national occupational health service – dubbed ‘Fit for Work’ – is currently being piloted by 20 practices in Sheffield, with a view to it being rolled out across the rest of the UK from the spring.

Under the scheme, GPs will refer patients likely to be absent for four weeks or longer for an assessment by a Fit for Work occupational health specialist, who will then set up a ‘return to work’ plan with the patient – from which point the GP no longer needs to sign the patient’s fit note.

DWP guidance for GPs explains that patients will undergo an initial assessment over the telephone within two working days of referral, or a face-to-face assessment with five working days ‘if deemed appropriate’

‘Where a face-to-face assessment is required (expected to be in a minority of cases) Fit for Work will pay reasonable travel expenses at your patient’s request,’ it states.

The service was developed following a series of pilots, some of which showed positive results in helping patients back to work.

For example, one project in Leicester saw two-thirds of absentees able to return to work.

However, Dr Rob Hampton, Leicester GPSI in occupational health who led the pilot, cautioned that the majority of patients had mental health problems that required intensive case management.

If a patient has failed to go back to work or find alternative employment or training after three months, they are automatically discharged from the Fit for Work service.

Medicals over the phone = saves £2 Billion.

      • well for a start, if you are deaf, this is impossible and how in the world can you assess someone on the phone if you can’t see what they are trying to demonstrate on the phone? ridiculous ideas that save money bit achieve nothing else. The government ought to start putting citizens first, instead of money. This country is going backwards on it’s morals.

I wonder how they’ll enforce “telephone consultations” on those without access to telephones? Like, for instance, people with serious speech problems like stroke survivors?

  17. Also those doctors now have to choose between exercising their medical practise correctly or probably face being disciplined for it or even sacked, just like the employees in the dole office now do.

    • Doctors do have a pretty powerful union, the BMA, which seems to be becoming pretty militant, as evidenced by the current campaign by junior doctors who face being shafted by this present government.

If you are a union member, put some pressure on your union to come out against these insidious changes in the way that sickness is handled for those in paid employment, and perhaps tell your union they should show public solidarity with the junior doctors in the BMA and also make representations to the BMA that these changes to the way that sickness amongst the employed is handled is not only wrong, but marginalises the medical profession as it uses non-qualified staff to assess sick people. The government is trying a stitch up of both the medical profession by dumbing down the sickness benefit system (and we all know what happens when that’s allowed) and those in work by regarding them as automatically malingerers of some kind.

    • When work doesn’t pay

Those who moved into optimal jobs showed significant improvement in mental health compared to those who remained unemployed. Those respondents who moved into poor-quality jobs showed a significant worsening in their mental health compared to those who remained unemployed.

So now we have a slightly different answer to the question about the unemployed being better off in work. Yes they are, as long as they are in good-quality jobs. If they are in bad jobs, there is a perversely strong chance that they will be worse off – especially in terms of their mental health.

Good info JV. However, in my experience, doctors have always sided with government and employers. Back in 1985 when I went to my GP with significant mental distress caused by being bullied by a bunch of evil moron bosses at work, he said he would not give me a sicknote. Instead he proceeded to lecture me staying positive and using coping strategies and that I should ‘man up’. If the cunt had bothered to read my medical health notes he would have seen that I had a history of serious mental health disorders. Instead he forced me to go back to work and I tried to commit suicide. Only when I was in hospital with a broken mind and body did they take me seriously. GP’s who force unwell people back to work should be struck off by the General Medical Council.

    • paultheswineherd

Santa hates you – a friend of mine years ago had problems getting the right treatment provided for a relation of his. He threatened to report the totally uncooperative Doctor to the General Medical council – it worked and his relation finally got the vital treatment that he needed!

      • paultheswineherd – Thank you for the advice. In this country it seems if you suffer from a mental health condition the only real way to get vital treatment is to hurt yourself or lodge a formal complaint. My support from the NHS only really started after I ended up in hospital after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Shame on the government and shame on those GP’s and other medical professionals who support a broken system.

    • “GP’s who force unwell people back to work should be struck off by the General Medical Council.”

Amen to that, Santa hates you. If nothing else, GPs should definitely get a warning to not do it again. Otherwise, it can cost people’s lives.

      • Hang on, we should report these new GP “guidances” to the General Medical Council. After all, they were written by a department which has no medical training. Thus they should rendered invalid by the medical profession. 😉

The rich are getting richer – the poor are getting poorer and now even the sick (in work) are being targeted. It’s high time that this Government and IDS was definitely targeted in some way. The fucking bastards.

Government resistance to funding long-term out of work illness/disability benefits followed the 2005 publication of the monograph: The Scientific and Conceptual Basis of Incapacity Benefits (SCBIB) by Gordon Waddell and Mansel Aylward6, followed by the 2006 report: ?Is work good for your health and well-being by Gordon Waddell and Kim Burton.7

What is constantly overlooked is that both these influential reports were commissioned by the DWP. They were both produced when Aylward and Waddell were funded by Unum Provident Insurance at the Unum Provident Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research (the Centre) at Cardiff University, with funding by the American corporate insurance giant, Unum Provident, from 2003-2009. Aylward is listed as the DWP Chief Medical Adviser until April 20058 and is identified as being appointed as the new Director of the Centre from 2004.9

Lord David FREUD is the causal link to all the welfare mortality deaths, for it is he who introduced the tainted works of Waddell and Burton to Parliament in an effort to reduce welfare spending……..

      • At UnumProvident we have a non-medical, enabling model of rehabilitation
and we are working with our partners at the UnumProvident Centre for
Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University to better
understand what places people at risk of long-term or chronic illness.
Further information about this model can be made available
        to the committee

………………To enable the cull of the poorest and disabled, the DWP sought to build a network of carefully selected chess pieces to bring about change…………

DAME CAROL BLACK WAS THE INSTIGATOR OF CHANGES TO THE DOCTORS SICK NOTE.

In January 2007 Professor John Langbein of the Yale School of Law produced a paper identified as ‘The Unum Provident Scandal’29 that exposed Unum’s practice of disability denial, and in November 2007 BBC News reported that the British government were being advised by an American insurance company with a reputation for ‘racketeering’ (THE BBC NEWSREEL HAS MYSTERIOUSLY GONE WALKABOUT FROM THE INTERNET)

        Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope

A previous Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Work and Pensions, Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope, is listed in the House of Lords Register of Interests (Session 2006-2007) as the Chairman of the Unum Customer Advisory Panel for which he received payment from Unum and additional payments for other work for Unum.

Extracts from the Report of the Physical Function and Mental Health Technical Working Groups.
        Commissioned by DWP sept 2006.

There is still work to be done,to test the proposed new assignment in a live environment. This will be done by asking ATOS MEDICAL SERVICES DOCTORS to complete a PCA on incapacity benefit claimants.

The Guardian, Wednesday 12 September 2012 21.00 BST

This week the sixth International Forum on Disability Management, IFDM 2012, takes place at Imperial College London. It is sponsored by some of the world’s largest medical insurance companies, Unum among them, and speakers include DWP chief medical adviser Dr Bill Gunyeon and Professor Sir Mansel Aylward, formerly DWP chief medical adviser and director of the Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University, which was sponsored by Unum from its inception in 2003 until 2009.

Unum’s website states that during this sponsorship period “a series of papers was published, identifying the range of factors that determine why some people become long-term absentees”. The Cardiff papers advocated a “biopsychosocial model” of disability which Unum says “informed its approach to medical underwriting”. It is the same approach upon which the current Atos work capability assessment (WCA) is based. Concomitantly, the company were advising the UK government on welfare reform.

The Department for Work and Pensions announces today the appointment of Dr Bill Gunnyeon as Chief Medical Adviser, Medical Director and Chief Scientist to the Department for Work and Pensions.

Currently Medical Director of Capita Health Solutions and President of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Dr Gunnyeon will take up post on 1st June 2005.

He succeeds Professor Mansel Aylward CB who is retiring from the Department at the end of April to take up post as Chair in Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University and Director of the new UnumProvident Centre at the University. He will also chair the newly established Wales Centre for Health which will lead on improvements in the nation’s health.

Dr Hamish Meldrum, Chairman of British Medical Association (BMA) Council, said: “A Fit for Work service that provides patients with better access to services such as physiotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and debt counselling services may be useful ways in which people can be helped back into work and the launch of pilots to investigate this approach is the right way forward.” He gave a more cautious welcome to the “fit notes”, adding: “The GP must continue to act as the patient’s advocate, not a policing arm of the Department for Work and Pensions.

The Porcelain Doll – Very well said – I am sure that most on here would totally agree with your views – the Tory pigfuckers.
Just been up late watching Question Time – one poor working woman has just said that when her Tax Credits are reduced she will be snookered.
This comment was directed at the Tory Energy Minister Amber Rudd (another completely fucking bitch by the way she’s behaved on there tonight!). I am sure that the Tax Credits issue will eventually be the downfall of this lot – just like the Poll Tax helped Thatcher to go!

      • I watched it as well Paul, the lady was close to tears and shouted, “shame on you”, twice…………..
Amber Rudd did not know where to look, completely taken aback.

Hopefully it will lead to a rebellion never seen on our streets for as long as i can remember.

I would love to drive my fist into the faces of the snooty scumbags who make up most of the audience. They have absolutely no idea of the evil that is being brought upon our lower castes, myself, in particular…..

Geoff – yes, it was quite an eyeopener – I bet that’s she’s now really regretting voting Tory – however, it will hopefully now be all over the News (and possibly the papers also!). I would’nt be too surprised if the ‘audience’ are hand picked to be ‘rich and proud’! The Tories cannot keep all of their terrible cruelty covered up for ever. The U.N. are also now on their case and hopefully they will get to the bottom of it all and embarrass this lunatic shower all over the world – when their report is published – with a bit of luck though perhaps they will get it published promptly.
Also, that is terrible what they have done to you – making you live on a measly £33.60p per week. That Judge Mark Rowland should be stripped of his title and his job and all of his ‘decisions’ overturned as he seems to have a definite ‘conflict of interest’. Totally corrupt to the core.

  31. My niece took a pay cut of several thousand and moved jobs, which included down sizing from a house into a flat and moving to a different town with her partner, rather than continue working in exactly the environment you describe. Funnily enough she worked for a ‘charity’ (I use that description loosely and in fact was 2 charities that merged) contracted to deliver certain elements of government unemployment support/administration systems. At the point that she quit they were in consultation for redundancies. Even though there was a chance she could have waited and either kept her £23k+ job or recieved approx £3k redundancy she took alternative employment at £8k less just to get out of such a stressful environment. As it turned out just as she handed in her notice they had decided to keep her as she wasn’t one of those ‘chosen’ for redundancy. Her view though was, having been threatened with her job for the past couple of years over anything including hospital appointments that could only be attended during work hours, she’d had enough. Decent pay doesn’t necessarily compensate for a miserable, bullying and autocratic work place. To think these 2 merged charities were originally set up to ‘help’ those people unemployed who struggled to engage with the work environment or struggled with disabilities. Now they are actually assisting this government to deliver a system that has seen the very same people victimised and abused by the media and bullied by systems that have led to very real, heart wrenching deaths. There are no words printable to describe my views of the lot of them.
I really miss my niece as she was also part of my own support system but I would rather struggle myself than see her so badly morally compromised and abused herself by this appalling experiment on the people of Britain. It really is just plain sick.

  32. Hard Times Come Again No More by Stephen Foster, a man whose life ended in tragedy. He gave us over 200 beautiful songs, all American classics. Foster tried to make a living as a composer, but it was difficult, and his wife and daughter eventually left him. Alone and impoverished, he lived in a run down hotel in New York City, and during a bout of illness, fell into a china wash basin, broke it, and cut himself badly. It took three hours for a doctor to arrive, and he died shortly thereafter. Hard Times Come Again No More could have been his personal anthem, even though it speaks of the human condition in general. Thank you, Stephen Foster! I have no doubt that angels are singing your songs!

    • my name is " my, name

While walking down the street one day a Esther McV is tragically hit by a truck and dies. Her soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. “Welcome to Heaven,” says St. Peter. “Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high? official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.”
“No problem, just let me in,” says Esther. “Well, I’d like to but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.”
“Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven,” says Esther.
“I’m sorry but we have our rules..” And with that, St. Peter escorts her to the elevator and she goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open and she finds herself in the middle of a green golf course.. In the distance is a club and standing in front of it are all her friends and other politicians who had worked with her, everyone is very happy and in evening dress.
They run to greet her, hug her, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are having such a good time that, before she realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives her a big hug and waves while the elevator rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on Heaven where St. Peter is waiting for her.
“Now it’s time to visit Heaven.” So 24 hours pass with Esther joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before she realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
“Well then, you’ve spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now choose your eternity.” She reflects for a minute, then Esther answers: “Well, I would never have said it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in Hell.”
So Saint Peter escorts her to the elevator and she goes down, down, down to Hell. Now the doors of the elevator open and she is in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. She sees all her friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags. The Devil comes over to her and lays his arm on her neck. “I don’t understand,” stammers Esther. “Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and club and we ate lobster and caviar and danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.
The Devil looks at her, smiles and says, “Yesterday we were campaigning. Today you voted for us!”

    • Aren’t you doing nothing nowadays Esther McVile given that you got sacked? Claiming benefits perhaps? 😉

    • I am pretty sure that you wouldn’t want to be on your feet all day sorting out shitty brown strained underwear, it’s fucking disgusting and a bloody health hazard!

This is how a Daily Heil hack describes Ms Batmanghelidjh

“Everything about Camila Batmanghelidjh is such a mad muddle – her name, dress-sense, logic, grasp of detail – that you wonder how a supposed intellectual such as Alan Yentob fell for her.

Perhaps he mistook her for something from one of those Commonwealth novels on the Booker Prize shortlist. Perhaps his patronising egalitarianism just found her too yummily multi-cultural to resist.

She arrived at Parliament yesterday wrapped in textiles of 100 colours: yellows, pinks, scarlets, greens, indigos, and more tartan that they use in the carpets at Balmoral. She’s as tall and wide as a heavyweight wrestler, with Ronnie Barker spectacles and a Robbie Coltrane chin. Her accent is what a chef might call fusion: West Country by way of Tehran, Brick Lane and the Caribbean.

Scarlet-painted talons protruded from plaid-patterned, tipless gloves. Her multi-coloured turban rose towards the ceiling, high as a Victorian’s stovepipe hat. On her vast frontage she wore a rosette that would have put Cruft’s to shame. Her outfit was completed by cherry-coloured training shoes and earrings as long as lavatory chains.”

        • I would rather have a million people swathed in a plethora of colours than one odious , evil bastard in a dark blue suit that punches the air and celebrates as the needy are pistol whipped……………

        • Nothing but Daily Smear, isn’t it? To dissect Ms Batmanghelidjh’s dress sense as opposed to what she does. Journalism it isn’t.

              • Mr Donkey – You seem to be having severe difficulty understanding my argument that “fit for work” is a meaningless generalisation. I will illustrate your stupidity with a question…… Do you think Stephen Hawking is fit for work?

                • EL not everyone is a scientific genius. If only they had a fit for work test that was fit to see if you could work and helped you properly into the sorts of work you could actually do while providing the correct help and equipment to do it, no one would be complaining. I see Stephen Hawking has all the equipment and help he needs to do his job.

                • Maria – Precisely! The point is that there is no such thing as a sensible “fit for work” test, because the phrase itself is meaningless. Professor Hawking perfectly illustrates that point. Some people such as Mr Donkey don’t seem to understand this and persist in using the DWP rhetoric, apparently without realising that they are just playing into their hands.

The boss did it too and no one was treated any different and they really did train you up in all possible aspects of the job. But places like that are rare, especially these days. there is nothing wrong with cleaning toilets and making cups of teas, as long as you truly do want to volunteer to do it or that you are paid a decent wage and treated and employed properly for doing it. It is one of those tiny pens with you find in the bookies with only enough ink in it to sign the direct debit like ‘charities’ send out with “Parker” badly printed on it.

      • You seldom have a need to subscribe to a prepaid funeral plan nowadays because the private health insurance company’s that advise the DWP ON welfare strategy have come up with a corker of an idea………..

“PUT THE SURPLUS OF CLAIMANTS TO DEATH AND THEN WHEN THE OUTGOINGS ARE LOWERED, WE WILL TAKE THE REINS”

This is only good commercial thinking, lower the payment threshhold to create a good marketing strategy.
Nobody would invest in a zoo where most of the livestock was limping !

Lord David Fraud let the cat out of the bag when he made reference to the long term disabled as, “Stock”, although hansard kindly rewrote it as something completely different to avoid embarrassment.

Equally Fraud made no mistake when he spouted that the disabled were not worth a normal wage and the sum of £2 per hour was mentioned.

It was also Lord Fraud who introduced the observers book of medical bullshit to the government, the one that Johnny cites in his intro, Wddell and Burtons Eugenics manual…………………..

Lord Fraud has no place in medicine, even his distant relative, Sigmund is now looked upon as a pure rambling nutter.

Between him and Lady Muck, Dame Carol Black, the DWP body count has got out of control……………….

Being typical Tory scumsuckers, they refuse to analyse their chronic mistakes, instead, pressing on ahead with a recipe for death.

They know that they have fucked up big style, they are now just arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic……………….

As the body count rises, they will fall, their prophecy of terror, self fulfilling.

…………as for DUNKO THE CLOWN, Broadmoor has a closed door policy.

        • Lock the bald bastard in broadmoor with pig fucker Cameron, and make em sort out bin bags full of stinking shit strained, fishy knickers all day, that’ll finish them off!

The scheme has been plagued by problems and delays since its launch

    Independent – 14th Oct 2015

In 2013 the DWP was forced to write off £34m of IT work on the project after problems and serious criticism, from the National Audit Office, who criticised its “weak management, ineffective control and poor governance”.

The whole roll-out was originally due to be complete by 2015/16 but has now shifted back to 2020.

    • If you divide the latest DWP write off of £34 million pounds by the 2380 that they have laid to rest, it will give you a rough estimate of the value the DWP put on a human life…………

Likewise, if you factor in the savings generated by stealing my disablement benefit of £236 per week (now £33.60p), a total of £202.40, then project this over just one year, the DWP has gained £10,524.80p, minus my huge christmas bonus of course………………

I am now sixty years old and if i live to be around the median of 76, they will have achieved a saving of £168 thousand, three hundred and ninety six pounds (at todays rates)

“NO WONDER THEY WANT US ALL DEAD”

Now project the savings from just myself across the whole spectrum of welfare cuts and it will make you realise just what rich pickings the private health insurers wish to control……………….

      • and the only way the private health insurers could get their grubby hands on the welfare payments pot, was to enter a tryst with our government that allowed the introduction of fake medical reports……………..

Enter, ATOS, CAPITA, SEETEC AND MAXIMUS, the pickpockets of the private healthcare insurance industry.

        The rest is just history…………..

            WIKI: Work Capability Assessment

            The WCA in practice[edit]

The process starts with a healthcare professional approved by the DWP scrutinizing the ESA claim form and deciding whether to seek further evidence from the claimant’s GP or another appropriate source. If the evidence shows that a claimant probably has both limited capability for work and limited capability for work-related activity (in other words: the claimant would be likely to get a ‘top score’ for certain functional activities, or a non-functional descriptor would probably apply) then a face-to-face assessment is not normally required, the claimant is recommended for the Support Group and the higher rate of ESA is usually granted. Otherwise, the healthcare professional arranges a face-to-face assessment – usually in an examination centre, but occasionally in the claimant’s home.

At face-to-face assessments, the assessors – who are nurses, doctors, physiotherapists or occupational therapists – are guided and prompted by a computer programme, designed by Atos in conjunction with the DWP, called the ‘Logic-integrated Medical Assessment’ or ‘LiMA’ (despite no longer carrying out WCAs directly, Atos is still paid by the DWP to operate LiMA because Atos owns the software, although the DWP owns the intellectual property rights). A large amount of lifestyle data and some clinical information is obtained from the claimant and is entered into the computer by the assessor. As the assessment progresses, LiMA tries to gauge both the impact of the disability on the person’s daily life and the person’s fitness for work – but while LiMA suggests options to the assessor, it is ultimately the healthcare professional who is responsible for making the recommendations.

As well as taking a clinical history and exploring the claimant’s ‘Typical Day’, the healthcare professional will make general observations of the claimant’s hearing, mobility and posture, etc. and there may be a short physical examination. The claimant’s mental state will to a large degree become apparent as the interview progresses, but specific questions might be asked in order to elucidate any disordered thinking, abnormalities of perception or cognitive impairment.

During the face-to-face assessment, if it becomes clear that the claimant qualifies for the Support Group on the grounds of severe functional disability, the interview should be brought to an early close and the finding recorded on the claimant’s file.

After the interview and examination the findings are summarised in free text using Standard English prose, and a typed report – largely, apart from the summary, constructed from modified pre-set LiMA options – is sent electronically to the DWP. This report attempts to describe the claimant’s ‘Typical Day’ and to justify the recommendation by comparing and contrasting the disabilities described by the claimant against the criteria – the descriptors – constituting the legal framework of the test[29][30] (as well as considering the other factors, such as whether there would be a substantial risk if the claimant were declared fit for work). This report normally concludes with the points score intended to reflect the level of disability together with a final recommendation on fitness for work and a work-related prognosis. If the assessment is carried out in the claimant’s home, the report is usually written by hand and is substantially shorter (normally, only doctors are authorised to write reports by hand, i.e. without using LiMA).

If assessors encounter practical difficulties or are unsure how to apply the test’s criteria in specific cases, telephone advice is available.

These assessments[31] have been criticised for their repetitive impersonal style, while the reports have been criticised for several aspects of their overall quality and for the accuracy of their recommendations.[32][33] Poor evidence-gathering before an assessment and a perceived reluctance to recommend claimants for the Support Group are specific and longstanding criticisms. The reliability of LiMA in gauging disability has never been independently demonstrated.

In September 2015, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain produced a report describing the experiences of 1,780 of its members who had undergone DWP disability assessments. 57% said the test did not accurately measure the effect of their condition, while more than a third felt the face-to-face assessment had caused their condition to relapse or deteriorate.[34]

One strategy adopted by the firm to boost the number of assessors was to raise the top pay offered to new nurses to almost £40,000 a year. In September 2015, anonymous healthcare professionals who had failed their basic training at Maximus complained to Private Eye that they had been “lured” from secure NHS jobs by the prospect of a substantial pay rise, only to find themselves unemployed when they failed the historically tight tests imposed by the DWP on its assessment providers.[100] In response, Maximus said: “Inevitably, some people do not meet the required standard or voluntarily exit”.

The DWP don`t like to talk or write about their contracts or anything about their HCP`s – Why don`t the DWP like talking about HCP`s since they have contracted them for a public service with public money. Some useful tips, not enough direct help to the diverse problems, or obvious ones over 50s face. How much can you get done for 20+ people in 2 hours?

Not the ladies fault though. Said would be asking DWP about the changes and people laughed – pointed out that HMRC/DWP has been caught lying in past so good luck on that.

I had my suspicions about the booking itself – and 10minutes in was called out by management. I told them conversation ended before they could say anything, they called me to come back but I went back to the course. Not even a How are you today, just in my face. Obviously management think I am a fool. Good.

    • Duh

      Actually its unemploymentmovement

    • That is chilling reading. Now they’re going to cut people’s benefits because they’ve been unemployed for a certain amount of time and also because they may stay at home with family or friends!! So they don’t get housing benefit that people who live independently get. Why should their benefit be cut over and above that?

What a friggin’ shithole this country is and every day it just keeps getting worse and worse.

      • It is the Isle of Man but you know it’ll be extended… before the proles rise up that is…

        • Yeah i read it all. It’s IOM but if they swallow it without making a stand they’ll roll it out here on the mainland UK too. You can count on it.

So these cockroaches decide that because you may stay at home that your money is to be cut? Why’s that? You’re a human being who needs food water etc same as anyone else. People living in their own house already get a higher rate of benefits to cover that through getting HB and CTB. Also if they have kids they’ll get a higher rate of benefits.

So over and above that they want a single person to get shafted further and their benefits reduced? Also bear in mind they might be forcing the affected people to do workfare for that reduced pittance as well!

Makes you wonder where it’ll all end doesn’t it.

          • Labour Exchange

Back in the day claimants who ran their own households got paid a premium. This was in recognition of the fact that it does costs more to run a household and it is more costly in comparison to claimants who live with friends/family.

      • Part of the ‘rationale’ behind this is the DWP know that the claimants who ‘fail to attend’ schemes etc. are in the main the ones who don’t live independently. Furthermore, it is predominantly young people living at home with their parents who ‘fail to attend’ schemes etc. They have a roof over their head, their parents put food on the table so it is not such a big deal if they get sanctioned. But being sanctioned is a lot bigger deal if you have bills to pay and are trying to keep a roof over your head. Can see the DWP going after this group so that they are more ‘amenable’ to workfare schemes etc. and won’t just ‘fail to attend’. We see this group in the jobcentre; they just shrug their shoulders and laugh when they are told they have been sanctioned, but we also see older claimants breaking down in tears when told similar.

        • Fuck the jobcentre and their shit

The only people you see on these fucking schemes are the ones who don’t have any choice. You will never see a middle-class/rich nobhead shovelling shit for jack-shit. And parents with dosh aren’t going to let their kids go on these health-destroying, demeaning, humiliating, soul-destroying, back-breaking slave labour schemes. It is always the poor that suffer, has always been the case.

  68. We can all sit here and attack the WCA ad nauseam but what is the Labour Party proposing to replace it, given that they commissioned the WCA and replaced Incapacity Benefit with ESA in the first place.

It was clear as far back as 2010 when I had my first WCA overturned by tribunal that the whole system was unfit for purpose. That was when I first read about Mansel Aylward and his twisted ideas that depression could be ‘cured’ by work, no matter how serious or debilitating it might currently be.

Unless the proposals of the party now in opposition accept and admit that they made a massive mistake that has damaged millions of people in this country, we have NO HOPE of getting anything better regardless of who is sitting in No. 10 Downing Street.

While I appreciate that Launchpad may give voice to those who have suffered under this regime, it is now about time it moved on, The writers and campaigners have to come up with some concrete and workable alternatives that will ensure that real malingerers are not allowed to thrive forever on benefits, and will return to a claimant’s primary health carers providing the main weight of evidence in any discussion about fitness for work

I hoped that some kind of policy statement and way forward might have emerged from this year’s Labour Party conference, but it seems that even a new and radical leader is not quite radical enough to start to unpick his Party’s biggest and most destructive mistake in a generation.

They can instigate charges against Stafford Hospital Trust for the alleged deaths of four patients but are oblivious to the 2380 who died after being found fit for work.

It’s almost as if somebody is controlling them, don’t you think?

      • A hard days work never killed anybody, did it, GEOFF?

Yet the D.w.p. latest mortality score says otherwise.
I often wonder who penned the phrase, “A hard days work never killed anyone”.

Perhaps it was a Mill owner, a deep south cotton plantation owner or a tory M.P.

        One thing is for sure;

“It was definetely not the person doing the graft!!!!”

  76. “THE LONG TERM HEALTH RISKS OF WORKLESSNESS”

If you go to your keypads and type in the aforementioned heading on google, it takes you instantly to the Cardiff University website and strangely to the report done by Waddell and Burton that was financed by the UNUM private health insurers with the aid of ex chief medical officer of the DWP, Mansel AYLWARD.

How odd that the only true reference to not working and it’s incumbent health risk should be associated to the findings of a major PRIVATE HEALTH INSURER.

    • Prof Rutherford wrote that Unum had also been “building its influence” in a variety of ways over a number of years. He said that in 2001 Le Cascio was a key player at a ground-breaking conference at Woodstock near Oxford, titled “Malingering and Illness Deception”. Malcolm Wicks, Labour work minister at the time, and Mansel Aylward, then chief medical officer at the DWP, were among the 39 delegates.

In the same year, Unum launched a public private partnership to act as a pressure group to extend influence in policymaking. And in 2004 it opened the £1.6m UnumProvident Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University. (The centre has since been renamed and Unum says it no longer provides any funding – no doubt because of claims that academic integrity could be called into question by its influence.)

Unum has been lobbying, sitting on expert groups and hosting meetings at party conferences of all colours ever since. And lo and behold, in May this year, Unum’s then medical officer Prof Michael O’Donnell jumped ship to become chief medical officer at Atos. He barely had time to catch his breath before giving evidence to the Commons committee looking at the welfare reform bill.

But Unum is once again denying any conflict of interest “since our current work with the DWP and our marketing campaign are different.” It said its current consultation work is about helping people return to work and its advertising campaign was educational and does not support tightening benefit changes.

Meanwhile disability activists who have fallen foul and been forced to appeal cuts in DWP benefits based on flawed Atos assessments, and campaigning groups like Black Triangle, think the whole thing stinks and are urging MPs to investigate.

      • @GEOFF

Is Doctor PETER DEWIS, who worked for the Dwp mixed up with private health insurance industry?
All the pieces of the jigsaw are starting to come together. The conflict of interests of those who worked at the Dwp and have links to the UNUM corporation are huge.
AYLWARD, GUNNYEON, DEWIS have connections to outside private medical or insurance contractors, in fact the last chief medical officer of the Dwp, GUNNYEON, is now working for MAXIMUS HEALTHCARE.

The whole system is being deliberately handed over to the health insurance on a plate by these crooks who totally ignore the deaths that they have helped to create.

THE UN INSPECTORS SHOULD BE JUMPING ON THIS STORY @GEOFF.

        • CROOKS IN HIGH PLACES

This is Peter Dewis BSc MB ChB DDAM MRCP, UNUM’s UK Customer Care Director.

‘DDAM’ is the Diploma in Disability Assessment Medicine, a qualification whose training and accreditation is delivered by ATOS ORIGIN.
For sixteen years prior to taking up his current position at UNUM (which commenced in 2000) Dr Dewis held a post with the UK Government’s Department of Social Security (the precursor to today’s DWP). He seems to have worked his way through levels of the DSS, as UNUM describe him as having held ‘claims management, managerial and policy roles’ there. (I would link to the Unum web resource for this, but like quite a lot of their ‘old’ publicity material the hyperlink has disappeared, so the account only remains as an excerpt within a Nexis search result.)

A United Nations team have arrived in the UK and it’s understood they will visit Manchester, London, Bristol, as well as parts of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The team will be gathering direct evidence from individuals about the impact of government austerity measures, with a focus on benefit cuts and sanctions; cuts to social care; cuts to legal aid; the closure of the Independent Living Fund (ILF); the adverse impact of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA); the shortage of accessible and affordable housing; the impact of the bedroom tax on disabled people, and also, the rise in disability hate crime.

The deadline for evidence submissions to the UNCRPD is thought to be 31 October.

Sturgeon: “Send Them Back To Where They Came From”

    • Twice today i have been asked about an underground document called, “Home Visit”.
Being slightly naive i thought it was a reference to doctors. It has in a way, but is more sinister than i first thought.

“Home Visit is a list of all judges and magistrates that have been involved in decisions that have left the poor and disabled in dire straits
It lists their home address and family members.
The list, that is expanding fast, also shows the names and addresses of Health Care Professionals and doctors that have made similar judgements that have left persons at risk.

Each district is utting forward lists of names and addresses and is gathering momentum at fever pitch. The bad feeling has been building for a long time now and it seems that tribal law will soon unleash it’s own brand of retribution.

For too long those who have been seen to wield almighty power may soon be expecting a dose of their own treatment.

What worries me is the lynch mob mentality when face to face with the oppressors.

I expected to see something like this to happen, the policians and advisors must have been walking round in a daze.

Long ago i was told that there was a price on a prominent ministers head. Only time will tell……………….

The WOW will be trying to shoehorn the inspectors visit into the La la land of milk and honey where the pavements are made of gold, trying to steer them from the broken starving communities than run on empty. that feature disabled families robbed of basic support.

Keep up the good work, education is a blessing.

    • paultheswineherd

sarah7 – unfortunately this will NOT be covered by ANY of the standard press or BBC or Sky News – they will want to support, at all costs, the status quo – they will want to support the Tories at all costs.
The BBC will support everything and Sky will support everything.

  90. paultheswineherd

Geoff – thanks for putting this on. Good for Jayson Carmichael for doing this – the Bedroom Tax is totally immoral. The U.N. people should look at this – AND – where is (still!) the European Court of Human Rights – they are saying and doing absolutely NOTHING – are Cameron & the Tories paying them to do this – I would really like to know.
In addition to this, me and my family are most likely going to be hit by the Tax Credits deductions next year – talk about making the ‘pips squeak’ – these Tory bastards are trying to kill everybody – even the ‘working poor’ such as us.

    • paul – sorry to hear about the tax credit deductions affecting you and your family – at least you are not blaming the unemployed as some people are – you know who is to blame – Camoron, IBS, Gidiot and the rest.

    • Proper shithouses this government……………
My friend Toddy has been married to a Thai nurse for 4 years. Each time he applies for a visa for her to come here they block it.
They say he must earn £18600 per annum before she can even come over, yet our local wages are poverty handouts.
They wrote and told him that he could consumate his marriage abroad rather than here. in other words, clear off if you don’t like it….

He has not even been able to get a holiday visa for her to visit.
When he got married in a village in Thailand, the whole tiny community attended, even the lord mayor.
Their service was blessed by local monks, a huge civic affair.
The marriage was registered in bth the Thai and British Embassy’s in Bangkok and all paperwork was submitted.

Toddy has to fly across to see his wife. Recently they lost their first child due to a miscarriage that was probably brought on by stress.

We can accomodate 20,000 strangers but Toddy can not have his wife beside him………….

What a real cess pit of a nation we live in.

ps I respect everyones right to a life, regardless of colour, creed or religion

      • paultheswineherd

Geoff – this is totally wrong. How can this Government possibly do this?
But, as usual – this Government does everything as supports itself.
This Tory Government supports bringing in 20000 Refugees over 5 years = 4000 per year. But – they do not support it’s own ‘Citizens’ – Yeah!

      • But “Toddy” must have a £ or two tucked away if he can afford a Thai wife in the first place. Most of are lucky if we can afford a week in a caravan in Skegness never mind flying off to Thailand to get married – must have cost a fortune.

        • You won’t get much change out of £1000 for one bare-bones return flight to Thailand from the UK.

“Toddy” must have spent £thousands on this adventure. It is not like his Thai wife will be paying for any off it. Wonder what the age gap is… 😉 And then “Toddy” can afford to support a child. A Thai “wife” don’t come cheap… 😉

“Toddy” should be also be made aware that if you marry a non-UK national i,e, immigrant the Immigration Department will go through your finances with a fine-tooth comb.

I recall a girl who married a Nigerian guy. She was studying as a nurse and being paid a grant but was also signing on. She was busted and prosecuted. Of course as soon a her “husband” got the paperwork he done a runner… 😉

  91. paultheswineherd

    Fellow JCP Sufferer/Customer –
Thank you for this – I of course do not blame the unemployed, the sick and the disabled and claimants. I only blame the Tories : Cameron, Gidiot and IDS. I myself have had run-ins with the DSS/DWP in the past and of course, because I have a long memory – I have not forgiven ANY of them – far from it in fact – I, like so many people, not least, the people on here know exactly what has been happening.
Just to let you know of my ‘story’ back in 1990, when I was living in my native Cornwall, I was put onto one of the Tories ‘Employment Training’ schemes. I did one year (before the ‘provider’ funding ran out!) (Does’nt that sound familiar!) on an Equestrian Scheme (that was fine and I loved it) – but, at the end of the day, I was working a full 36 hour ‘working’ week for my ‘benefit’ plus £10 a week (plus car travelling expenses). It was basically slave labour – not much different to the ‘Work Program’ nowadays.
There was a ‘promise’ of a full time job at the end of it which did not materialise. Needless to say I absolutely HATE the Tories with a vengeance. These Companies, raking it all in – they did’nt care about their ‘trainees’ – they only cared about the MONEY.
IDS thinks that he is safe at the moment – but he is most probably, NOT.
That bastard had definitely watch his back.

    • paul – yes your equestrian scheme sounds good enough if you enjoyed it, but as you say, you need a proper wage and not just £10 per week plus car travelling expenses. And knowing my experience and others who were on this there was very slim chance of a full time job for any of us. Now it’s even worse. You’re right, they don’t care about us and never have, all they are interested in is getting free labour. I too was on the £10 a week extra “employment training” which lasted for about two years – the “sucessful outcome” (yes, really) of the training after I had survived the constant verbal abuse and harassment and ordering about and criticism and insults by a couple of the ELDERLY volunteers who had worked all their lives but grudged me the remote chance of a paid job was TWO WEEKS OF PROPER PAID WORK WHERE THE EMPLOYER PAID ME THE SAME AMOUNT P/W AS MY BENEFIT (PLUS £10 P/W OUT OF GENEROSITY)!
You are right about IDS, my friend. He is far from safe. All the armed guards in the world working 24/7 will not help him. The storm approaches.

      • paultheswineherd

Fellow JCP Sufferer/Customer: Exactly so – all of them do not care about their ‘trainees’ – only about getting their MONEY.
That is very interesting – to me that suggests that these ‘ELDERLY’ volunteers were on some form of incentive ‘scheme’ themselves!

        • paul – You may be right about those two particular people getting something out of it even then when they were supposed to be volunteering – I think they also hoped that when the “charity” expanded and got new premises they would be the first in line for a paid job to supplement their pensions! However, one of them resigned from the committee having failed to pass a vote of no confidence in the rest of them 🙂 as he like things done HIS way, and is now dead 🙂 and gone to a worse place. The other one, well I’m pretty sure she didn’t get any paid employment there either, and she will either be dead now or in “God’s waiting room”. A couple of years back I was in the supermarket when I felt another shopper standing glaring at me. It was her! After all those years she was still giving me the evil eye!

  92. paultheswineherd

IDS – You fucking bastard – we are on your tail!

  93. paultheswineherd

Refugees – yes indeed – it is very bad
    BUT:
OUR people in OUR Country – they are having to go to foodbanks to survive being sanctioned by our DWP

  94. paultheswineherd

you had better protect yourself – as you see fit!

It does not address the elephant in the room which is Free Labour and equating apprenticeships/workfare etc etc as being equal and just as important, acceptable in the eyes of employers and wider society. Bottom line of course is when a job is labelled an apprenticeship it immediately gives greedy employers the green light to ignore the already sad minimum wage and pay the worker literally sod all to shaft them to the hilt.

They say find work, there isn’t any really and even less work available if you have a disability, because no-one really wants you except to fill their equal opportunities quota. When you do get put on an Apprenticeship / workfare, honestly can’t see the different between them these days, they either give you the worse jobs that no-one wants to do, they make jobs up like they used to do in the workhouse, or you hang about doing nothing and would be doing more work at home. Its just a punishment really, to punish the poor for being alive when their is no work for them.

“Apprentice Data Entry Clerk” is another one that’s a friggin’ joke.

An apprenticeship used to be a craft that took you years to learn, involved days away at a college to further your technical knowledge and then a lot of practicing at what you do.

yes, i did a 5yr one in the 60’s…now i’d be on endless WP/WE….the working classes will now be for all practical purposes excluded from doing apprenticeships…

            • No Raining, I didn’t I did 9 to 5 mon to Fri, they should have paid me the minimum wage. And because I was young and naïve I accepted it. Things have to change its not right being exploited and lied to so employers can use you legally, its slavery but of a more subtle kind, but you are still a slave.

              • This is the whole idea behind these Apprenticeships. The Tories made big speeches about how they were going to create so many of them. Well now we see how they do it; call a toilet attendant or an office filer or a coffee server or a warehouse worker or any other such jobs an Apprenticeship and they kill two birds with one stone; they get the plaudits from gullible members of the public who don’t know any better and get to go on shows like Question Time trumpeting about how they’re creating all these apprentice jobs. Plus they get pats on the back from greedy, immoral, bent employers, because now they can screw the arse of their new employees and don’t even have to pay them the minimum wage.

    From: G Millward

    18 September 2015

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I would refer you to the following article in which the coroner
stated that the death of the claimant was as a direct result of a
DWP decision that he was fit for work

    https://glynismillward189.wordpress.com/

DWP finally promised in March this year – at the conclusion of the
legal case – that it would work with Maximus, the controversial US
outsourcing giant that took over the WCA contract from Atos this
year, to develop a pilot programme to test new ways of collecting
evidence for ESA claimants with mental health conditions.

But so far – more than six months after that promise, and more than
18 months after the coroner’s report was sent to DWP – there has
been no sign of a pilot.

    Can you provide me with the following information;

    1) Will the DWP be undertaking a pilot programme to test new ways
of collecting evidence for ESA claimants with mental health
    conditions?

    2) If the answer to 1) is yes, when will the pilot take place?

    3) If the answer to 1) is yes, how will the pilot be conducted?

    4) If the answer to 1) is no, why not.

I look forward to receiving your response.

    Yours faithfully,

    • UNITED Nations officials have arrived in Scotland to investigate allegations that Westminster welfare reforms have led to “grave or systematic violations” of disabled people’s human rights.

The Sunday Herald revealed in August that the Special Rapporteur and members of UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) were due to visit the UK to probe the complaints and take evidence from individuals and campaign groups, including in Scotland.

Officials arrived this weekend and will spend around two weeks visiting all four of the UK’s nations. All investigations are being conducted in private with participants being asked to sign confidentiality agreements.

The UN investigators will specifically examine whether the British government has committed “systematic and grave violations” of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The UK is the first country in the world to be investigated in this manner.

Meanwhile the Scottish disability campaign group Black Triangle has also revealed it plans to take another complaint to the UN Special Rapporteur under protocols which allow individuals to lodge cases where there is believed to be a “life-threatening situation” or urgent action is required.

Black Triangle said their complaint will focus on the case of Michael O’Sullivan, a disabled father-of-two with severe mental health issues, who killed himself after he lost access to his disability benefits.

Last month, in what is believed to be the first case of its kind, a coroner directly attributed his suicide to being found “fit for work” following an assessment under the controversial work capability process.

John McArdle, co-founder of Black Triangle, said he could not make any comment on the current UN investigation. However, he said the group were planning to submit a separate complaint to the Special Rapporteur which would focus on O’Sullivan’s case.

Black Triangle has also compiled a dossier of more than 80 deaths linked to welfare reform, including a 44-year-old man with mental health conditions whose benefits were cut after he was deemed fit for work.

    • Their £50bn is horseshit, They use a meaningless, arbitrary figure plucked out of the air to distract from the fact that £50bn no doubt includes the cost of thousands of sham tribunals and court cases of disabled people trying to get their rights restored. As usual, its one big, grotesque distortion of fact. Obviously £50bn isnt enough to do the job, even if we pretended the figure represented the real spend on disabled benefits and services. ‘Proud anti-Semite’: Joshua Bonehill-Paine had charges against him dismissed

An internet troll who called for disabled people to be exterminated has been cleared of being grossly offensive because a judge decided it was his human right.

Joshua Bonehill-Paine, 22, was in charged over two articles posted on far-right websites, including one promoting eugenics – the practice of killing people whose DNA is seen as inferior.

A court heard that he said babies with conditions like Downs Syndrome should be killed at birth for the good of the nation.

Bonehill-Paine, who calls himself a ‘proud anti-Semite’ said that the UK should adopt the practices of Sparta in ancient Greece, where physically imperfect babies were abandoned on a hillside.

He accompanied the story, on a site describing itself as ‘Britain’s number one nationalist newspaper’ with a picture of a Tesco worker with Downs Syndrome.

He was also charged over another article in which he claimed food sold by Tesco contained the deadly Ebola virus.

The articles – posted on two separate websites – resulted in charges of misusing a public computer network to propagate grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing material.

But in a hearing at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court this week, district judge Carolyn Mellanby dismissed both charges, saying that his right to free speech protects him from being punished over the stories.

Tesco said that they were alerted to Bonehill-Paine’s article, and were contacted by almost 200 customers concerned that the story was true.

    • @Toddy

The magistrate must be a Nazi surely?

Despite accepting that Bonehill-Paine was behind the stories, district judge Mellanby said he was protected by the Human Rights Act, which guarantees free speech.

She said: ‘Freedom of speech has a very high threshold and I would have breached Article 10 of the Humans Rights Act if I had found you guilty.

‘You have a right to express your opinions. You came close, but not close enough. I therefore dismiss the case.’

Bonehill-Paine, of Yeovil, Somerset, was returned to custody after the hearing ahead of a trial he faces at Southwark Crown Court in December.

He is accused of inciting racial hatred before a neo-Nazi rally in London in July.

A former public schoolboy and briefly a Conservative Party member,[7] Bonehill was sentenced to a 12-month community order involving 100 hours’ unpaid work and supervision by the probation service, following an incident on 11 March 2011 in which he broke into and burgled a police station in Chard, Somerset using his Conservative Party membership card, while drunk.[8]

Bonehill-Paine lashed out when efforts were made to arrest him, assaulting two officers in the process. He was found guilty of the offences of burglary, assault and criminal damage, pleading guilty to criminal damage to a flower bed in Preston Road, Yeovil, on 30 March.[7][8]

In 2013, Bonehill announced plans to lead a “Stand Strong” march in Woolwich, a month after the murder of Lee Rigby, describing it as a protest against “extremism, terrorism and oppression”.[9]

In 2001, three out of four workers (76%) worked in services.
In 2011 this has risen again and four out of five (81%) working people were in the service sector.
This is opposite to the trend that can be seen in the manufacturing industry.
In 2001, 15% of workers were in manufacturing, less than half of what it had been in 1951.
In 2011 this has fallen once more to one in 11 working people (9%) in the industry.
Over the 60 years, agriculture and fishing declined further to 1% of working people. The energy and water sector also gradually declined to 1% of the working population in 2011. The construction industry remained relatively steady and was 8% of the working population in 2011.’

“Any conference I have been to, it [removing tax disincentives to fund healthcare] is one of the things that employers have consistently raised and I understand that,” said Dr Bill Gunnyeon, chief medical adviser at the DWP. “But I’m not making any promises.”

    • The complicity of leading Dwp health officials and the Private Health Insurance Industry is so apparent, it’s unbelievable, our government are being led by those who seek to profit mostly.

The bank accounts of these conspirators / crooks, should be delved into.

  143. Atos and their collaborators are there to bypass the NHS. If a GP has put a patient on sickness benefit and Atos puts them off it both parties cannot be right. The decisions about a claimant going for a so called medical are taken before the appointment. People are fit for work irrespective of how ill they are. They are out to cull those they deem as undesirables by legal methods. And sooner or later the DWP will become the DW, there will be no pensions. The Tories don’t care whether people have work or not, they just want them to stop claiming benefits.

  147. Well that’s what you get for voting conservative! They have been making cut backs and causing prople to lose their jobs for years then demonising them if they go on benefit as a scrounger, using programmes like benefit street and papers such as the Sun and the Daily Mail, with Rupert Murdoch churning out the propaganda on their behalf. Now they are starting to demonise those on tax credits or any one who takes time off sick. Make no mistake about it the conservatives are only for the filthy rich. By brainwashing people into turning against poor people who may have lost their jobs, blaming them for the recession, they have duped people into voting for them. Turkeys voting for Christmas. We need to get these ba****ds out! Any body who is working now is a target for their cut backs, they’ve already targetted unemployed people, most of which are nothing like benefit street! It’s anyone who’s working next ( if your not a millionaire that is). They lost the tax credits vote but they are going to take it off people anyway by switching it to universal credit so it’s still going to go. Next time vote Labour ffs!!!!!
