The London Mob Is Rising, Rage Against The Tories Hits The Streets Within A Day Of Election Result

filth-batons

This is what policing by consent looks like.

Over 2000 people took to the streets yesterday as rage against continued austerity exploded in an unprecedented and largely spontaneous protest.

The day began with several hundred people answering the call on social media to gather outside the Tory Party Headquarters.  As the crowd swelled and the protest took to the streets hundreds more people joined the unofficial march and soon a defiant mob of over 2000 people brought Central London to a standstill.

The demonstrators thronged the streets from Trafalgar Square to Piccadilly Circus with a mobile sound system keeping spirits high.  Chants of ‘Tory Scum’ and ‘Tory Cunts’ were met with an enthusiastic welcome from many passing motorists, bus drivers and even tourists.  The crowd finally stopped outside the gates of Downing Street where a huge police presence had assembled to protect the heartland of state power.

As batons were drawn and riot police arrived scuffles broke out as an attempt was made to clear the streets of people.  A bungled attempt at kettling the demonstrators was thwarted leaving only around 100 people trapped inside police lines.  A tense stand off soon emerged as hundreds of coppers swarmed into Whitehall eventually pushing those outside the kettle down into Parliament Square.  17 people were arrested as police used a couple of minor injuries and some daft graffiti as a licence to throw their weight around but the truth is they were disorganised and taken by suprise and most people escaped unscathed.

This unauthorised protest was the fourth time recently that people in London have taken to the streets in huge numbers without asking anybody for official permission.  The recent March for the Homeless saw a crowd a thousand strong occupying roads and clashing with bailiffs in defence of London’s homeless people.  Then just two weeks later an anti-gentrification protest in Brixton led to the storming of Lambeth Town Hall, damage to a local Foxton’s Estate agent and a bold attack on the police station.  On Mayday hundreds of people out-manouvered the police and took to the streets for the lively Fuck Parade organised by Class War.  Each protest has been bigger, more boisterous and more diverse than the last.  Something really is stirring in the capital.

What recent events show is that the days of boring A to B marches, with routes agreed in advance with police and heavy stewarding, are clearly no longer what people want.  If thousands are prepared to take to the streets then that should be the only mandate necessary.  Fuck asking permission, there is no law anyway that says you have to go crawling to the authorities before you can hold a static demonstration.  And if that demonstration is so strong it can take the streets then there is fuck all anyone can do to stop it.

We do not have to accept five more years of misery. Whether organising against workfare, Maximus assessments, housing benefit cuts or whatever other shit they come up with, we can be the spanner in the works that breaks the machine.  Rarely, if ever, has a new Government been greeted with such anger.  Fuck all the talk about democracy, or majorities, or whatever the fuck the stupid Labour Party decides to do.  Millions in the UK do not even have a secure home and hundreds of thousands of people are forced to use foodbanks.  A country that treats people this way should be ungovernable.  And it could be.  That is the choice facing everybody this week.  Do we wait another five years only to go through this shit again?  Or do we start doing something about it now?

Above pic from The Independent.

The state opening of Parliament is on Wednesday May 27th.  Class War are mobilising.  Keep it free.

  1. hi vis vests, police liaison officers and self-policing demos where did all that control freak shite come from?

    • overburdenddonkey

the 1975 health and safety act…. can never be too careful, steady as you go now….🙂

      • A boisterous demo of a few hundred use to be a weekly occurrence of democracy several decades ago now it is viewed as a major uprising to be crushed by police thuggery.

  2. About time somebody took the lead in the fightback against these cruel, evil bastards. Wish I was fit enough to take part.

  3. Those are the same type of units they used to beat the miners into submission all those years ago. They’re still the state’s stormtroopers. So this is what policing looks like then nowadays on the streets eh?

  4. And not a mention on BBC.

  5. Well done Johnny, a rousing write up. Heartning to see people of all ages out yesterday.
    Enough is enough.

  6. Far too many folk destitute using food banks and not the filthy unwashed ‘can’t be bothered’ we are led to believe. Maybe the toffs will descend from their Olympian Heights to actually see for themselves. Mind, they don’t care. Fifth richest nation yet homeless rocketing and will increasingly do so as overall benefit cap applied in no work available areas. Minimum wage is an excuse to boost their fkg profits. No one working full time should have to rely on benefits to pay council rent or food banks to feed families. Some of us remember the Poll Tax riots and see little better now than causal factors back then

  7. Great article and we need more of the same, both the variety of article and the demonstrations. The only issue I have is a slight one, which I hope will be taken in the spirit in which it is meant. I’m referring to the use of the word ‘mob’. Many years ago I was taken to task by my history lecturer at college for using this word in reference to, I seem to remember, the crowds assembled during the Merthyr Rising of 1831 (the first time the red flag was raised by working people in the British Isles). My lecturer pointed out that ‘mob’ (used in the sense of ‘rabble’) is a negative word, and one that would be used by those whose intent is to discredit, and that ‘crowd’ is a much more neutral word with no negative connotations. But, yes, we do really need a lot more of this kind of thing. I think the time is ripe, as I’ve yet to meet anyone is happy that we have another five years of the fucking Tories.

There was also a spontaneous demonstration in Cardiff, which I believe was organised by the People’s Arsembly, but I was that the Radical Workers Bloc would be there in large numbers. Sadly I couldn’t be there, but if the May Day procession in Cardiff, (organised by Cardiff Trades Council and all the usual suspects, such as Unite, Unison, PCS etc) is anything to go by where the Radical Workers Bloc was largest element who peel off from the main march and occupied the main branch of HBSC in the city centre with a protest outside. This didn’t please the march organisers, who, upon realising that we’d disappeared, (or that ‘their’ march had suddenly got smaller) turned around and came back to find us – and boy were they miffed.

They went off to the civic centre, (which is dead on a Saturday afternoon) to listen to speeches after their leaders. The crowd listening to those speeches was small, consisting of all those Unite, Unison and PCS members for whom doing something effective such as occupying a bank and then engaging with a crowd of onlookers asking what it was all about, (the first time this has happened here in Cardiff in anyone’s memory when it comes to anti-austerity protests) who were for the most part at the very least benign and often supportive. Given the number of people capturing video of it on their phones it’s probably all over Facebook. I took some video too, but it’s not yet been published as it may be required as defence evidence.

Ten police vehicles turned up, and two were arrested. All in all, a very good day, and an improvement on last year when a branch of Barclays were occupied. What really made it this year was the huge crowd that gathered to view the proceedings and ask what it was all about. There were some people who were a little miffed about not being able to get into the bank, but even they expressed sympathy and understanding when informed about what the protest was about, but it wasn’t the anarchists or Radical Workers Bloc who were preventing people entering or leaving, but the police.

    • Know what you mean but the word “mob” has a historical significance for London protests: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Mob

      • What is the desired outcomes of all the protests? To force the westminster mob to change? It’s obvious they won’t like beating your head against a wall
Then do what? Pull it down and then what?

        Run country without Govt?

My only concern is that it might turn into another version of dog ear dog or another bunch of those in charge looking down their
        Noses at the rest

        • overburdenddonkey

          bob
so you don’t approve of the right to be heard, but many others do….and that if one does speak out one should be chastised, punished and/or beaten….and accept our pedagogical system…good luck with that…

      • Yeah
        Lynch mob
        Hate mob
        Mob rule

        • Any form of government is composed of the few ruling the many, and even the so called ‘benign’ governments of socialists make sure that they have the police, (and often an enhanced secret police, Stasi, Securitate, KGB etc) and ultimately an army, just in case the ordinary people ‘get out of line’. Mob rule of any kind is no alternative either, as no doubt the more powerful elements would seek to control the weaker.

Anarchy offers a sane alternative to both government and mob rule, (which are very similar) and is as simple as ordinary people coming together and organising society in a non hierarchical way where everyone matters and has a voice. Sadly the term anarchy is misused, as anyone seriously contemplating anarchism realises. Far from being a state of chaos, as is implied by many uses of the word, anarchy is actually very orderly, with a love of rules, but rules constantly subject to change through processes of true democracy.

Thanks Noel for pointing out the significance of the London Mob, I did know about it, but obviously wasn’t thinking when I wrote my comment!

    • What about using ‘gathering’…. sounds quiet peaceful and chilled… a happy, clappy gathering🙂

    • … a gathering of like-minded people🙂

  8. The government needs to be bought down, they gained power years ago as soon as they promised a referendum in 2017, it was a given that people would vote them back in but slaughter then in 2020 at the election after the referendum vote, that’s if they last that long. I am going to be asking my MP to contact Cameron to give a precise date of the 2017 EU referendum, and tell her I don’t want a it hasn’t been decided yet reply. As soon as her email is up on the parliament site I will be asking.

      truly….rabid…

    • I was certain it must be some kind of joke when they said one of their mistakes had been to stick up for the poor instead of the’aspirational’ classes.

      Delusional, the lot of them.

      • Saw that on the bbc too.

Seems there’s no votes in ” the poor “

        • Seems there’s no votes in ” the poor “

Well there certainly wont be in future.

          • Yeah maybe we saw that coming and yet still clung to the idea of elective democracy

            Shows over folks.

            • There was a bunch of stuff that came out in past few days about ballot rigging in country where some areas had more returned boxes than expected
              And postal vote discrepancies

          • the poor will get poorer and of course the rich will get richer, ! i fear for the future to be honest, but must keep fighting!

            • I see two things coming together
What looks like a corrupt westminster elite system demonising and disenfranchising the most vulnerable in soceity and that happening at same time the westminster VIP paedo scandals. And the cover ups

What you see is westminster elite thumbing their nose at us plebs.
And not giving a fuck any more

Those two issues will surely drive people into going it alone

      • to think if it wasn;t for the void;s good work all we;de hear about is how wonderfull the bloody torries are, from tv media, thank God we have people who stand up for our rights instead of just taking all that crapp.

  11. THE STATE PENSION IS GONE TO THE POOR AND SQUEEZED MIDDLE CLASS JUST THE SAME

There is a small revenge coming to Tory wives.

And not a few Tory male voters of the average waged and below.

Mundane as it sounds. The SERPs opt out and National Insurance record are merged to calculate the state pension on and from 6 April 2016.

So a lady opted out and paying the reduced NI contribution (and her boss getting a 3.4 per cent rebate on his employer NI contribution on your wage) is getting formal government forecasts for retiring on and from 6 April next year, of just £38 per week after 45 years in work.

See end of my petition for all the losers of ANY STATE PENSION FOR LIFE in this Work til you die or starve if you can’t, in my
Why is this important section, at:
    https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/state-pension-at-60-now

SIGN PETITIONS AROUND ANYTHING TO DO WITH AUSTERITY CUTS INAS MUCH GREAT NUMBERS AS YOU CAN

Even if this does not effect you for decades yet into the future, signing petitions in big numbers around anything to do with austerity cuts, will get debates in parliament that maybe the Scottish SNP might be able to do something with?

Sahre by word of mouth and social media so that employed or unemployed, of alla ges, we sign petitions en masse from now on.

TORY WIVES – NIL STATE PENSION
So even with the raised required 35 years of NI history, if been opted out from SERPs in any of those years or from SERPs’ beginning 6 April 1978, then the Tory wives have NIL NI HISTORY.

The flat rate state pension pays NIL STATE PENSION FOR LIFE for 10 years or less NI history.

TORY HOUSEWIFE – NIL STATE PENSION

Also the flat rate pension abolishes the housewife state pension, from husband’s NI history, as well as getting that pension as a divorcee or inheriting as a married widow.

TORY WIFE OF GREAT AGE – NIL TINY TOP UP PENSION

Someone turning 80 next year will not get the CATEGORY D TOP UP pension on a small part state pension.

SERPs OPT OUT HITS WORKS AND PRIVATE PENSIONS
See why on me pension pages on
    http://www.anastasia-england.me.uk

WORKING POOR – NIL STATE PENSION
The poorest men and women will have been out of the welfare state and state pension system, because on low wages or low income self employed below the LOWER EARNINGS LEVEL you do not get automatic NI credits.

Now you get some state pension from 1 year’s NI history onwards.

From 2016 need over 10 years to start the calculation to get any state pension.

Like the lady with 45 years in work, getting £38 per week from 2016, you can do the math backwards to see how much NI record the SERPs opt out from 6 April 1978 has wiped out over that 45 years.

So there is the Tory wife paying 10.4 per cent not the full standard rate of 12 per cent off her wages, with the boss getting a 3.4 per cent rebate off employer NI contribution on your job, geting ZERO STATE PENSION from each year opted of SERPs.

That never existed as an extra payment, but was a reduced NI payment.

    • As a disabled woman who is 100% financially dependent on her husband (I get DLA but not ESA) I have no NI contrib record since I had to cease working in 2000. Prior to that I have 3 years of full-time NI – as my family moved to Australia when I was 16 and I returned here in 1997, I have no NI prior to then either. If I was eligible for ESA, then NI would be recorded for me but I was given the wrong information years ago regarding contrib based claims & it is now way too late to successfully claim.

TL,DR; I will have NO financial support, ever, except for via my husband – who gets no tax breaks etc for supporting me – even the ability to sign over my tax threshold would be useful.

  14. Well done to those who turned out to demonstrate. Please remember that there are more who simply can’t do this but would like to. I’m sad that it takes unrest and arrests for the protest to make the teatime news. Yes there was a little bit. However now we know what it takes to raise awareness!

  15. The divisions in the united kingdom with Scotland pulling away is now shown. the union is in trouble and the future isn’t looking good.

  18. rather-die-than-vote-tory

Another great write up, brilliant Johnny! It’s good to see the rising of the people fighting back and making a protest. What a cold callous load of twats they are, that announce cuts to transport for the deaf & blind to get to work, the first day they get elected back in. I work part time and earn a little over JSA money. No chance of extra hours at all. Lucky to have any kind of job at 61 but now worried about when Universal Credit comes in and I’ll have to earn my housing benefit. Never ever thought it would come to this. I have room tax to pay also. If I were in a job that paid a proper wage I might be ok but working in the holiday industry I get ripped off on an ‘unmeasured contract’ so work a lot more hours than I get paid for. The future is scary but at least the people are fighting back now.

  19. Of course the ” impartial ” BBC thought it wise to mention that Welsh Tories called Charlotte Church a ” champagne socialist ” because she was at anti austerity protest
Have they run out of tired old clichés now?

    • I saw something today it was written in the daily mail in 2011 where preists and others were marching to state to the Govt to reduce poverty by 2015.
I wonder when they will start doing that?
I also noticed the likes of IDS and Scameron hanging out with some black youth in Lambeth and promising a bunch of made up on the back of an envelope ” plans ” to reduce poverty.
The photo is the most cynical photo op I’ve ever seen and the face of IDS in that photo
makes him look like a mass murderer

    • Bob, Charlotte Church spoke out before the election, and made a lot of sense. She may be a figure in the public eye, but she is young, and influential amongst the young. I’m sure she has her detractors here in Wales, but she is generally highly regarded here in Cardiff.

  20. Did anyone read the bbc labour party ” polo mint theory ” about labour policy.
Seems labour wasted too much effort in supporting the poor and should have backed the ” entrepreneur class ”
So supporting the poor has no votes in it
Next stop Labour decides to cut taxes for wealthy and goes on tirade against scroungers I bet.

I really think we are on our own now

  26. dirt under their feet

First the fear – then the anger.

From day one they are starting the cuts for anyone who they percieve as weak enough that they can’t fight back.

While from day one there are more benefits for the rich.

From day one we have to show them that we will resist.

They do not represent us. They only represent hatred and greed.

We do not accept their right to cull all of those that they do not perceive as sufficiently productive, even while they yoke all they can into servitude to them.

The government of a nation is meant to be for all of the people of that nation. It is not meant to make people work without a wage, make them destitute, make them hungry, make them die.

We reject this government and everything for which it stands, which is selling us to the rule of global corporations (who would also have been in control if the other lot had got in).

  28. IDS to stay in charge of DWP, thought that would be the case!.

  29. There is also a threat of Esther McVey going to the House of Lords.

  30. Nigel Evans, who was re-elected as Ribble Valley MP, said on BBC television: “Let’s get her into the House of Lords as quickly as possible.”

To protect her from prosecution no doubt.

    • According, to the tories. There planning to stop 18-21 year olds from claiming benefits, and force them to do 6 months community work instead
(aka workfare) also, by the looks of it there also coming up with plans to stop 18-21 from claiming housing benefits aswell.

    • Labour said they would be tougher than the Tories on welfare and now they are being accused of being too much to the left. They don’t want to accept the fact that they are closet Tories and only offered to stop the bedroom tax but keep all the austerity measures the Tories will force on us.

Whoopdeedoo! Iain Duncan Smith has been reappointed as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions! Full speed ahead with £12 Bn of welfare cuts, e.g.. lowering the benefit cap and further limiting child benefit and housing benefit et al. I’m sure we must all be relieved that someone competent, compassionate and honest has his hand on the tiller at the DWP.

  44. One Constituency where both the Tory and Liberal Democrat Vote
Thankfully Collapsed is Sefon Central which Saw a 11.9% Swing to
Labour a 4.3% Drop in Support for the Tories and a 15.7% Drop in
    Support for the Liberal Democrats

Why was the South East of England so Thick as to Vote Tory in too
    Many Cases ?

  46. Even an ardent conservative would balk at the political shape of DCs cabinets this is one mean looney tunes government.

They will be hanging us in the streets, God help us!

  47. The Police are supposed to be independent of the Government of the day and politically neutral.

They are increasingly used to crush any form of protest to dissent. The sad fact is that most coppers most definitely despise the Tories and Theresa May in particular because of the cuts she has made to their pay and conditions.

We, the people, should not be cowed. We should not allow the police, who are supposed to facilitate lawful protest to, enforce laws that are not fair nor justified.

The abuse of citizens rights to free assembly and freedom of movement should not be tolerated. Kettling is illegal, undemocratic and a breach of human rights.

Parliament is supposed to be the representation of the people! How can we have a government that two out of three people did not vote for? Our system of Government will only be legitimate when every vote counts.

We can fight this and we must!!

but that’s the connection in people’s minds, the vandalism of our lives, to give them their lavish lifestyles…and how it’s reported biased in the MSM…we in scotland have put up with this escalated intensity for the years leading to the scotref, and even now since the ge, but it also enabled us all to see it for what it is….protests don’t work unless they get attention…the right to be heard, is a vital part of free speech…and yes people should refrain from vandalism…we should be allowed to protest outside parliament, this is a vital part of a democracy..

i remember don’t need no stones to remind me of the horrors of war, nor should anyone else, just 2 mins silence for my tears, once a year, not the theme park it is now…

a lot of people think like you, i have come across your line of reasoning often in my many yrs of life…what you propose is called ‘blaming the victim’ and ‘2places @ once’ thinking…you’re implying the religious dogmatic views of good and evil and people are born evil or good, (and may even call yourself an atheist), and able to resist abuse if one is good/decent, which obviously implies if one can’t resist the affects of abuse one is NOT DECENT…your views are behaviourist/nudge and behaviourism is highly destructive to humanity….you’re claiming that CSA/CA victims should stop themselves from suffering the affects of abuse and if they don’t they’re not decent people….the fact is we’re all born sociable, lovable, and non-violent….this fact is obviously one that deep down you’re aware of, as it is the place where your concept of decency comes from…it’s in us all, and true therapy aids one in fully recovering this true non-dogmatic natural human being, as it removes mind numbing gum of abuse affects…
many blame the victims, and therefore still vulnerable victims (still suffering from it’s affects, until healed that is), of CSA/CA for not having the ‘courage’ to prosecute their abusers, even though the victims know their whole histories better than anyone else, and yet this historic experience is brutally discounted and denied by others, and IS further abuse of victims, to put the situation into the present for convenience of the prevalent 2 places @ once thinkers….you expect abuse victims to develop magical powers to overcome the affects of their abuse, just as the WCA does with ‘mhp’s’ and/or physical disabilities….some CSA/CA victims are lucky in the sense that they do meet good people early on in life who do show victims humanity exists, we all fight to recover it, some are more cut off than others alas…ie hitler, stalin etc etc…

i don’t get why you posted that after my comment, are you trying to communicate something to me, if so what is it…?
          ps noop
if our culture was more responsive to CSA/CA victims @ a far earlier age ie @ school age, then the numbers abused would dramatically fall as would the no’s of abusers and the victims could be offered healing and sanctuary far earlier on, and therefore greatly reduce the damage done to humanity…the likes of the well known spans of abusers abusing victims would be drastically cut by early interventions…so it is a collective failure of our culture that prolongs and exacerbates the problem of CSA/CA…not whether a few elderly abusers, after a LIFETIME of abusing, are jailed….

you don’t agree with… which is the reliable supplies of vitality giving vital’s of life for all…? now why is that….? ‘the Poor and Vulnerable Not Victimised…’ but you are by blaming them ie calling them not decent people for one thing, and for the reasons that i have already stated….’Indeed to be a Tory Bonehead is an Abomination against Natural….Human Decency Decent People do Not let themselves be Brainwashed..’ and….’It makes Me Feel Sick how Brainwashed many Boneheads are Out There to Think the Poor are Scroungers when it is the Richos with their Tax Breaks from the Tories that are the Real Scroungers it should be the Rich who Pay for the Economic Crisis instead of riding in Mansions and Prancing about in Posh Cars…’ ..you clearly stated that abuse victims are to blame for allowing themselves to be brainwashed….you called them boneheads…!
there’s no difference between lab/tory…the abuse is them withholding vitals of life, and making one leap up and down for natural rights to be met, this is a very cruel game/sport, which also feeds their lavish lifestyles…that is the actual abuse, that must be fought, which can only be done if people know how to vent their trapped emotions, and know their natural rights….and therefore also what type of system they/we want/need to inhabit…. please stop attributing, as if, people should have magical powers, it really doesn’t help… just saying nooppression does not make it happen, as depression is caused BY oppression…..

  66. We need to start at the roots here. Make the people that don’t actually take much notice of politics but voted Tory because they didn’t want a change, or couldn’t be bothered reading the manifestos – or just thought David Cameron was more well spoken and better looking in the damn TV debates realise what they have done and why it was wrong.

It’s only a little thing but this is my contribution – please sign it and I will take the matter to Channel 4 and other broadcasters as soon as the signatures reach higher numbers. over 500 in less than 24 hours shows me I may have a point here –
