14 Towns And Cities And Counting Lined Up To Take Action Against Maximus On March 2nd #ScrapWCA

Maximus-same-circus-different-clownsMaximus claimed that they would not face protests due to their involvement with the Work Capability Assessment.  They couldn’t have been more wrong.  14 towns and cities have already called events as part of the National Day of Action Against Maximus on March 2nd.

Please help spread the word about events near you and join in, as organisers Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) say: “If there isn’t a protest where you live – why not organise one? – we can help you with advice, leaflet designs, placard designs and put you in contact with local groups near to you, if you are interested email us on mail@dpac.uk.net”

Have you been sanctioned by Maximus?  DPAC have also asked for people to contact them if with their experiences of attending the Work Programme or other forced work schemes with the company.

  1. That’s a Monday. I will try go along to the Glasgow one if possible. (Might be at work at the date tho)

  2. Vote CLASS WAR!!

    EAT THE RICH!!

  3. Think we are up to around 19 now – but not all the details have been fixed for some, so watch for updates on the DPAC blog, more announcements coming soon……

  4. Just been listening to Radio 4’s You and Yours which was discussing employment agencies. They mention that work programme providers were also running agencies so that they received money from they government when they ‘placed’ jobseekers into these ‘exploitative jobs’. Also mentioned was one company who expected their workers to travel 25 miles as the crow flies, Liverpool to Blackburn was given as an example; this was one way the agency dodged paying travelling expenses. Workers were ‘offered’ at least 7 hours of work per week but not ‘guaranteed’ it. Jacobs (United Biscuits) was only slated as a major user of ‘throwaway’ agencies workers – something to think about next you consider buying a packet of Clubs or Cream Crackers. Programme will be available on the iplayer if you missed it.

  5. Signing on Adventures – Take 2.

The adventures of signing on continues. After laying on DWP a requirement that they explain in writing required use of UJM & access, it went strangely quite. Well today the quite was broken. Advisor with a Manager sitting off to one side to nudge them on started on the old “I need you to use UJM… I need Access… Why wont you use UJM… I wont answer your questions as I am your advisor and am here only to help you into work…” I pointed out unawnswered questions – had the letters been read/answered. Read yes, answered no. Told them as continuing with pressure to reply in writing and wished them good luck on that.
At silent nudging of Manager the advisor gave it one more good try for good old blighty. I then pulled my Rabbit out. “Is not true that ALL Civil Servants are Duty bound to answer verbally and in writing when requested any questions that are posed to them?”. [Its Part of the Civil Service Code – their employment contract ALL have to sign] Silence was my reply. I was then hurridily sent on my way. I wonder why?

  6. Good for you – standing up for your rights. Good Luck.

    Afternoon Drama

Men Who Sleep in Cars by Michael Symmons Roberts

Three man whose lives have been turned upside down by the recession sleep in their cars, caught in an economic trap.

On one night in the week preceding England’s first World Cup fixture , Marley, Antonio and McCulloch spend the night in their cars on the streets of Manchester having lost all their economic and social power . They hide away in disused car parks or in industrial estates, trying to snatch sleep . They listen to the radio for company, hearing the build up to the World Cup where some of the most powerful men in the world of sport compete on the world stage .

As they play develops we gradually learn how these three came to sleep in their cars, and how their lives interconnect. There’s an excitement, a freedom even, to living alone out in the world like this, the moments of peace – rain on the car’s roof.

    Q84 Debbie Abrahams:

Can I ask about monitoring of the quality of the process? You will be aware from the debate last week on the Work Capability Assessment process that there are issues about the quality of the process. People are describing it as degrading, dehumanising and getting things wrong. I had a constituent on Friday who said that her father, who was going through a process, was told he was in the middle of a heart attack as he was in the process. He was told they had to stop. When it came to the actual results from that, it was said that he had left the assessments and, as a result, he was sanctioned. They got personal information wrong, saying he had sons, rather than daughters. It was an absolute mess.

    ……………………….THE COMEDIANS

  11. Conspiracy Theory

‘Harry Clarke’🙂, the ‘driver of the Glasgow bin lorry crash’ ‘has no memory of the accident’…. not that old chestnut… how the fuck can you NOT have a recollection of that – must think we are fucking stupid!

    • Conspiracy Theory

      ‘accident’?!… more like ‘incident’…😉

    • Considering he was actually unconscious, I don’t think he was in a position to remember much. All the accounts of the disaster tell of the guy slumped at the wheel. I don’t see why this should be brought in to it anyway.

      • But how can you be ‘slumped at the wheel’ with your foot on the pedal. The accelerator (gas) pedal acts as ‘dead man’s handle’ of sorts, and as soon as your foot comes off the gas ‘engine braking’ kicks in. How did the vehicle change up the gears to obtain a relatively high-speed for a bin-lorry; these vehicles are never seen travelling at more than a snails pace, don’t think they ever get out of first gear. Why didn’t the other crew members grab the wheel, change it to the lowest gear to force ‘engine braking’, it is one helluva distance for a vehicle to travel with the driver ‘slumped at the wheel’. No explanations whatsoever!

        • The garbage trucks in Glasgow are automatics. If the other crew members didn’t drive, and didn’t know how to stop the truck, there was nothing they could have done at that time. These are not easy machines to handle without the proper training. And these are also not slow machines when driving at normal speed. But even at a slow speed, these are nonetheless still dangerous enough to kill if you get in the way of them.

          • PWD Waste Disposal

What about the “witness” on Sky News who said the bin-lorry was “doing 70 miles and hour”?

          • Never Trust a Copper

At the end of the day everyone would have been scurrying around in order to ‘cover their ass’ and giving them enough time to ‘get their story straight (hence the long delay before anyone announces or ‘confirms’ anything) to avoid any potential criminal prosecutions, health and safety breaches, or anything more sinister that need to be ‘covered up’

        • Natalie Bennett (Leader of the Green Party) was on Women’s Hour yesterday saying that her mother died in a car crash because she fell asleep at the wheel. It was early in the morning and Natalie was a passenger in the car.

    • ……………oxygen deprivation ti the brain is not uncommon during a heart attack. Tis can lead to long or short term memory loss, amnesia as we know it.
It is more than probable that the bin lorry driver did suffer in this way, it is only the likes of ATOS, CAPITA and MAXIMUS who fail to recognise disabilities and sickness.

As for your motives, the brain damage seems irreversible, the traits of a HCP or a PCS i imagine…………………………

This is very welcome news indeed from Johnny Void. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be one in Bristol, but that could change. It’ll be interesting to see if the Beeb covers these demos, of if they continue to live down to their reputation as the government’s poodles and ignore them.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please advise me whether a sanctioned claimant is still expected to
      make themselves available for work?

If so, please make clear whether they must still do the mandatory
35 hours a week jobsearch expected of Universal Credit claimants,
and give guidance on how someone with no money for food,
electricity, mobile phone credit, internet access or transport to
their Jobcentre is expected to do this without incurring further

  23. Grieving relative confronts DWP minister Esther McVey after benefit sanctions inquiry

The sister of a diabetic who died after having his benefits cut wept after hearing the minister say there is state support for vulnerable people.

    New Statesman – 4 February, 2015

Esther McVey, the Employment Minister, was handed an image of David Clapson – the man found dead in his flat from diabetic ketoacidosis, two weeks after his benefits were suspended – following a select committee inquiry into benefits sanctions this afternoon.

In the emotional confrontation, Clapson’s younger sister, Gill Thomspon, presented the image to McVey and said: “A diabetic cannot wait two weeks.” A reference to the amount of time a Jobseeker’s Allowance claimant, when sanctioned, has to wait to receive a hardship payment.

“I think you’re inflaming this,” McVey added. “We followed and looked at what we did, how best we worked in supporting the individuals . . . but we ensured that we followed all of our processes correctly.” “”””””

      • I think your inflaming breakfast TV Esther McVile.

      • “”””But despite the mounting evidence – substantial amounts were officially submitted to the inquiry – McVey echoed previous statements issued by the DWP and said: “Categorically, there are no targets for benefits sanctions.”””””

        • Ok let`s change the word targets to goals & aims & think tank talk that result in the meaning of the word target but don`t use the word. Our goal is our aim to sign contracts with Atos & Maximus that have targets & goals to get. You don`t sign a contract without that because it would mean nothing to business. Very long winded target.

          • Target Practice = Not a real target. So no targets just target practice.

            http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/news/local-news/union-blasts-tory-chief-ducking-3906825

            “DWP REWARDS FOR SANCTION TARGETS”

Government cabinet member Iain Duncan-Smith has been accused of dodging angry anti-cuts protesters after pulling out of a visit to Smethwick Jobcentre.

Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union rounded on the Work and Pensions Secretary after his scheduled visit to the jobcentre was called off last Thursday.

The union had warned that members would stage a protest at Governent cutbacks to coincide with Mr Duncan Smith’s visit.

They targeted the minister after he claimed he could survive on £53 a week “if he had to” in a huge row over benefit cutbacks.

He said in a radio interview: “I have been unemployed twice in my life so I have already done that.

“I know what it is like to live on the breadline.”

But Andrew Lloyd, Midlands Regional Secretary for the PCS, said: “Mr Duncan Smith avoided being confronted by protesters.

“Instead of seeing the Smethwick protesters he was sneaked into the Child Support Agency in Dudley without virtually any staff.

“Staff at Smethwick had been told that Mr Duncan Smith was visiting to thank them for being a high-performing office because of the number of benefit claimants it gets off benefits.

“As well as ducking the Smethwick protesters, Mr Duncan Smith is developing a habit of ducking issues.

“Recently nearly half a million people signed an online petition asking him to live on £53 a week for a year, in response to his claim that he could live on benefits.”

Mr Lloyd said Jobcentre workers had threatened to tear up £25 Marks and Spencer vouchers received for getting claimants off benefits as part of a DWP ‘carrot and stick’ approach.

He said: “The carrot is a small one and a number of PCS members from Smethwick were considering tearing up their vouchers in front of IDS to show their feelings over the matter.”

Mr Duncan Smith’s Parliamentary office failed to respond to requests for a comment.

        • ………….WHICH IS STRANGE, GIVEN THEY SAID THIS ON THE 20TH JANUARY 2015…..

The Department for Work and Pensions aims to transform people’s lives by
helping them find and remain in work and to ensure work pays.

The Department no longer has a target regime. Instead, the effectiveness of
Jobcentres is monitored by a range of performance mechanisms which
includes Cabinet Office’s Structural Reform Plan and the internal Performance
Environment. Jobcentre Plus staff performance is measured in a variety of
ways including how quickly they help get people off benefits and into work.

      • ” but we ensured that we followed all of our processes correctly.” = “we were following orders” or in the case of McVile: “we made the orders so live (or die) with it”. We need a Nuremburg II to try IDS, McVile, David Fraud et al.

      • RIP David Clapson

As Stailn famously said: “One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic” – that is why these fuckers never go into individual cases; they just trot out statistics.

  28. The excellent Benefit and Works website (advises claimants) has come up with a cunning plan to oust these parties from power altogether.

The poor have more power than they ever had for last century to change government utterly.

See how on my personal website:
    http://www.anastasia-england.me.uk

    • So why has England failed to form an opposition to the muscular liberalism of its three mainstream political parties?

  29. There will be a demo in Edinburgh, ‘presuming they use the same building’ (as ATOS), at 3 Lady Lawson St, EH3, 9SJ, at 1pm — so CHECK details nearer the time.

  30. Why can you report a benefit cheat on-line but you can’t report a tax evader (form doesn’t exist).

    • IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE DOCUMENT YOU REQUIRE FROM;

      SAMANTHA CAMERON
      DAUGHTER OF LADY ASTOR
      OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS CHANNEL ISLANDS
VIA LUXEMBOURG, CAYMAN ISLANDS AND BERMUDA.

FAILING THAT, THE DETAILS CAN BE FOUND AT CONSERVATIVE CENTRAL OFFICE, PART DONORS REGISTER OF CLIENTS LIST……..

      • KPMG AND PRICE WATERHOUSE COOPERS WILL HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION YOU REQUIRE.
THEY ARE EMPLOYED BY THE TREASURY TO HELP ENFORCE TAX COLLECTION, THEN USE THE INFORMATION OF HOW THE UK HMRC COLLECTS TAXES, TO EDUCATE PRIVATE COMPANIES ON HOW TO EVADE PAYING TAXES AND SET UP OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS…………….

“BUT NEVER FORGET, 0.07% OF BENEFIT CLAIMS ARE FRAUDULENT”

DOMINIC LITTLEWOOD KNOWS, BUT I BET HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW MANY THE DWP HAVE KILLED IN ORDER TO RECUPERATE THIS VAST AMOUNT

      • The so-called “big four” accountancy firms are using knowledge gained from staff seconded to the Treasury to help wealthy clients avoid paying UK taxes, a report by the influential Commons public accounts committee says.

Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers have provided the government with expert accountants to draw up tax laws. But the firms went on to advise multinationals and individuals on how to exploit loopholes around legislation they had helped to write, the public accounts committee (PAC) found.

Margaret Hodge, the PAC’s chair, said the actions of the accountancy firms were tantamount to a scam and represented a “ridiculous conflict of interest” which must be stopped. “The large accountancy firms are in a powerful position in the tax world and have an unhealthily cosy relationship with government,” she said, calling for the Treasury to stop accepting their staff to draw up new tax laws.

        • Declarations in the current Register of Members’ Interests show Labour MPs have received more than £540,000 in research assistance from PwC since September 2013, Mrs Hodge says. Several members of the shadow cabinet including Ed Balls, Tristram Hunt, Rachel Reeves and Chuka Umunna have received support from the firm to assist them in their frontbench roles. The shadow work and pensions secretary Rachel Reeves currently has an analyst working to support her who is paid at a rate of more than £500 a day.

They are all in it together.

          • That Reeves is one clueless person. How she ever got into a parliamentary position is a disgrace. But symptomatic of how intellectually bankrupt the Labour party is in it’s present form. All she can think about is repeating mantra like “We will be tougher on benefits than the tories” That’s her summed up in one sentence; an airhead.

      • I’ve always thought that Sam Cam looked a right piece of posh tottie, a right MILF😀

  31. “ITS SO NICE TO SEE THE DWP SQIGGLE AND SQUIRM AND INVENT LIES”
“can the details/medical history of an existing award be used as a precedent for a future award………..for instance your DLA used against PIP or ESA?”

    IN RESPONSE THEY SAID THIS;

Department has not considered this issue, it does not fall within the scope of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and the Department need not answer it.

Has anyone here seen Best Boy? A remarkable film about a lovely couple and a disabled son. The parents die. I don’t know what happened to the incredible and moving son. Today it would be too tragic to think.

Said before, but I’ll repeat it. Parents of afflicted children oftentimes top themselves when they get older thinking what might happen to their offspring when they die. They really love their children. I can only see increasing numbers of these people killing themselves with this present government, and the lying-labour government should they gain power.

IDS is evil. McVey is evil. 30 pieces of silver. How to get to the Top! Just who associates with these people? They sup on the wine of others ruined lives. The true manifestation of EVIL. How do they sleep at night! Let them live long lives: the ghosts of those they’ve crippled and killed will be in their living rooms every night
