Young? Unemployed? Don’t Expect A Job At The DWP

mcvey1“I have always said that I will do everything I can to help equip young people with the skills they need to get their foot on the ladder – everything I can to encourage employers to open their doors to young people – and everything I can to support the youth of today to get on in life.”  Esther McVey responding to employment statistics February 2014

Despite endless government initiatives aimed at bringing down youth unemployment, just 1% of staff at the DWP are under 25 in a workforce that numbers almost 100,000.

The shocking admission comes in the department’s annual equality report which also shows that only 4.3% of DWP workers are between the ages of 25 and 29.   These figures come despite the Employment Minister Esther McVey repeatedly trying to tell us that young unemployed people are on of her ‘key concerns’.  Turns out she’s far more concerned about forcing young people to work in Poundland for no pay then she is about using her department to actually give people a real job.

Whilst anyone under 25 who wants to work at the Jobcentre should probably spend some time experimenting with drugs for a while first, these are damning statistics for a government that pretends to care about youth unemployment.  The truth is that just like every other grasping employer, the DWP has no interest in providing any genuine help for young people to get started in a career.  Why would they, when they can staff their offices with young people on unpaid ‘work experience’ instead of actually paying them wages.

  1. Not one of Esther’s best pics that one! What happened to her mouth? It’s all funny looking!!! LOL!

  2. Hopefully someone replaced her lipstick with superglue.

  3. I signed-on today. Now they want printed out evidence, phone numbers, addresses and names of employers you’ve contacted aswell as the Job-match history… this crap’s neverending!

    • Think I’ll lock them out of my UJM account and therefore only supply the printed evidence.

Sorry this isn’t on topic. I have nothing to say about that rat-faced trollop.

  4. I have an idea why don’t we raise the pension age – that will surely open up more jobs for the young….. Oh not wait tried that.
Ok lets try getting people to fill vacancies for their benefits…. Ah oh can’t see how but there’s now less jobs.
Oh well we’ll just have to sanction you all…ooh look unemployment has dropped

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
        Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work
and Pensions’s handling of my FOI request ‘Atos Deaths’.

This is disgusting behaviour from a Government Department. I will
        continue to press for answers.

  7. I had to put this on, taken from the BBC web site…..

    “Wayne David, MP

tweets: Dust hasn’t yet settled but it seems clear that in the Tory #reshuffle ‘right’ have pushed out the few remaining centre-right tories.”

    ###############

My God, if Wayne David, MP thinks this government has ANY “centre-right tories” in it he needs to be sectioned under the mental health act!. A truthful description would be….

Pushed out the few remaining far, far right tories, and replaced them them with extreme, ultra right tories.

    • “We live In interesting times”

A famous quote above, it should now be replaced with…..

We live In the most insane times.

  9. Reblogged this on SMILING CARCASS'S TWO-PENNETH and commented:
Although lucky enough to be working now (should I feellucky to be working?) when I was unemployed, most of the staff I encountered were seriously dumb. That’s not to say some weren’t intelligent and often very helpful; just most were thick and ‘jobsworthy’.

One incident will, I think suffice to elucidate. When told I had to attend a basic maths and English course I explained I had ‘O’ levels in both subjects and that I was currently studying for my HND in Applied IT (having passed my HNC) and that the level of maths and English required for the course was way beyond ‘A’ level requirements, so what was the point?

Then I was told that it wasn’t compulsory, but I had to go! When I pointed out the stupidity of such a statement, I was threatened with sanctions because if I was doing a part time (evening) university course, I wasn’t available for work. I wasn’t sanctioned- because I dared them to do so- with the threat of great publicity if they tried.

So, I think I am quite capable of doing a job at the Jobcentre- probably better than most of the thickos employed there- but frequent requests for consideration were rejected out of hand.

It’s a bit like the old joke- I applied to join the police, but wasn’t accepted; I passed the intelligence test.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Under the Freedom of information Act, Can you please supply copies
of your Four reports on the Universal Credit programme

I am aware that An information tribunal judge has unexpectedly
refused consent for the Department of Work and Pensions to appeal
his ruling that four reports on the Universal Credit programme be
      published.

The judge’s decision, which is dated 25 April 2014, means the DWP
will have to publish the reports under the FOI Act – or it has 28
days to appeal the judge’s refusal to grant consent for an appeal.

      Yours faithfully,

      William Pickersgill

      William,

The DWP today submitted a request for an oral hearing in front of an Upper Tribunal Judge to seek reconsideration of Judge Wikeley’s refusal of its application for permission for appeal against the First Tier Tribunal judgement.

It is curious that in 2013/14 the DWP reimbursed staff for single meals costing up to £25.05 yet it does not expect Community Work Placement participants to have any additional food costs. They:

“do not expect there to be additional unavoidable food costs due to attending a CWP.”

  11. If just 1% of under 25’s are actually employed by the dwp, what percentage are working on a work programme for the dwp receiving only benefits?

To keep mortgage payers on side most are employed before those that do not have mortgages.

  16. You’ve only got to listen to Esther McVey to realise what she and Katie Hopkins have in common: they both lack empathy, compassion and conscience. Quite simply, they are both psychopathic, and totally incapable of doing any job which requires emotional input.
