Jobcentre Fashion Tips: Unemployed People Should Wear Tailored Suits, High Quality Silk Ties And A Classic Wristwatch

rhondda-fashion-tipsFollowing on from earlier news that the DWP is offering free advertising space to Sarah Vine – wife of Education Secretary Michael Gove – and her fashion and beauty website, it now seems that local Jobcentres are attempting to set themselves up as stylists.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Jobcentre have been handing out fashion tips on twitter telling claimants what they should wear at job interviews.  Unemployed men, living on just a few pounds a day, are advised to wear fitted wool suits, a classic wrist watch, high quality silk ties and dress shoes.  As the Jobcentre insists: “It is always important to invest in a good pair of dress shoes”.

Meanwhile women are instructed to wear a medium heel and if they must wear trousers then they should ensure that they are hemmed and do not drag on the floor.  A sensible skirt appears to be preferable to these wannabe Gok Wans, along with a tailored blouse, a fitted suit and good quality knitwear.  More Prada than Primark darlings seems to be the message from the DWP.

The ludicrous advice comes as part of the department’s attempt to establish a credible presence on social media and which has already seen them become a laughing stock.  An online chat hosted on their facebook page today merely resulted in scores of people criticising the dreadful Government jobsearch website Universal Jobmatch.  Meanwhile their hashtag, #job2014 has been bombarded with tweets condemning the vile regime that unemployed people currently face in Jobcentres.

The fun doesn’t stop there.  On Friday the Jobcentre managed  account @SouthLondonJobs will be preaching the value of workfare which is sure to go down a storm on social media.  Why not join in and let the Government know what you think of their attempt to force young people to work without pay.

As previously mentioned, be careful if you use your real name on social media, this is the DWP after all.  Also don’t say things which could land you in court.

  1. I’ve got an interview for a part-time, minimum wage, shelf-stacking position at Lidl’s next week. Having the piss taken out of me by being given ridiculous advice like this only make me feel worse. The fact that idiots like Gove’s wife – hard to believe that any woman would want to marry an annoying little twerp like him, but there you go – actually believe that poor bastards like me should dress up to the nines in clothes we haven’t got and couldn’t afford to buy, in order to impress our interviewer(s) enough to snag a shit manual job with absolutely no prospects or decent pay is insulting.

(Can anybody really tell a silk tie from a synthetic tie without looking at labels? And why the fuck should a candidate wearing a silk tie be preferred to a tieless individual?)

    Jesus Christ!

I wonder how much longer it will be before claimants begin to be sanctioned because they look a bit untidy or have fly-away hair or whatever?

  2. oh great are they giving them out for free.

  4. The utter stupidity of being told to dress like a high flyer whilst at the same time starving to death..because as we all know the only way to prevent hunger is to look for work and the only way to increase employment is to starve people..
At some point a dickead is going to tell you how to save money by not wasting it on expensive clothes so you can eat. Or give up eating to buy expensive clothes to look for work which I guess in their fuzzy world is 100% guaranteed you will get..

    Its fucking surreal…

top tip: don’t forget to let your maserati tick over for a full 2mins before shutting it down…

    • I completely agree with this post. It is such a bizarre system that every corporate organisation expects of people trying to find work again. Why the hell do people employ others dependent on their looks or outfit. Surely it is how well they do the job or great track record.

It is all just one big fucking act that we have to go through. I am fortunate enough to still have a suit I bought before I lost my job last year. I have had 4 interviews since I lost that job due to cuts. I have my 5th interview this Friday, and every interview I go to, I find it more and more difficult to conjure up the willpower to put on this silly act where what happens is; is we lick out the arses of these corporations at the interviews, for a stab at the chance of getting a job that pays a pittance anyway.

I have no more in the pipeline and if I don’t get this one, which will probably be the case lets be honest; then I am going to have to think outside the box and at least try and become self employed doing something… anything… because I have had enough. I know I am a diamond at work, but nobody is giving me the chance to prove myself as I am fresh out of University with little experience.

It fucking IS surreal, and I am sick of it. All a big act at the end of the day, if you are not what they want in an employee, their minds have usually been made up by the time you have said “hello”. The ‘suit thing’ just adds to the hilarity.

  5. James "Jobseeker" Bond

I find that a classic Rolex wristwatch complements my hand-stitched, bespoke cashmere signing-on suit. Its also give a good impression to draw up to the jobcentre in an Aston Martin

  6. overburdenddonkey

i suppose next they’ll be offering tips on how to present and run social media sites….robert the bruce: if at 1st you don’t succeed try try again, well only if one is a spider living in a damp cave and it has always worked before or one thinks being a laughing stock is a good thing….

  7. Sack cloth and Ashes about all there is for many – before being dead, this state of dress for the plebs would suit the perverted tory mentality.

  8. Landless Peasant

Alternatively, perhaps you could wear a T-Shirt:

    http://www.redbubble.com/people/letthemeatart/portfolio

    • Errrrm….actually
I got a ob as a kitchen porter ‘cause I wore my Rome GUCCI t shirt. !!! Honest !
Pal is in Roma. (I’ve never been there but he was). He buys Gucci in Roma store, then gets back to Scotland an finds he’s too wide to wear it…so gives it to me.
I had interview with the head chef at a restaurant, so I wore it…an got the job! That said, if it was one of the managers, I probably would not have worn it, an probably wouldn’t have got the job either!
Most expensive tie I ever saw was in a shop in Kansas City, MO, it was $60.
Most times I go for interviews…which don’t happen very often…, I wear fancy pants, fancy shoes, fancy shirt, an gold plated cufflinks (my dads!)….an still don’t get the job….So there must be something about GUCCI….
Anytime I sign on at jobcenter tho…which is too often…I usually only ever go in my beloved sports shorts….even in rain or snow! I’m well know for it. Long live shorts!
How I hate formal guff. !!!

      • …..should have read….I got a JOB as KP, etc.

      • But Italians use Gucci, Verscace and all that crap to wipe their arses, dry their dishes etc.

PS Our postman wears sports shorts in all weathers too… come rain, hail or snow. That’s a good idea for job interviews – wear sports shorts lol 🙂

        • Our postwomen women wears sports shorts too 🙂 all year round and what a fine pair of legs she has 🙂 Seems posties have a thing for sports shorts lol 🙂

  9. Good tip.
I would also advise turning up to the interview in a swanky new car.

Oh Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz
I ain’t got a job so I must make amends
The Tories are douchebags, the LibDems are nuts,
and they never stop talkin’ from out of their butts

  10. Landless Peasant

Dear DWP, should I dress to the left or to the right? Please advise.

Also, should my tie be fastened in a single Windsor, or double? Which do you recommend?

Is it advisable to attend an interview wearing a woman’s dress (I am male), like the bloke who works in my local Jobcentre?

    Regards,

    Landless Peasant

    • You should ask these at the next DWP q&a session:-)

    • @landless also a good pair of brogue shoes too. Make sure you wear black shoes because brown shoes suggest you are a communist or gay or both.

      • Landless Peasant

Damn. I have some brogues (£2 from a charity shop) but unfortunately they are brown. Hang on…isn’t brown the new black? Or, according to the Tory scum, black is the new white? It’s all very confusing. Can’t I just wear clogs like me dad?

  11. and how are people on JSA supposed to afford these clothes pray do tell!

  12. The new Protect & Survive

  13. Remember plebs, if you must faint after having not eaten for several days and are due to attend an interview, you must do so only when the interview is concluded. Being unable to complete an interview because you were suffering the effects of starvation will result in immediate sanction.

    We are working for you.

The Right Honourable Iain Duncan-Smith MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

  14. Reblogged this on Beastrabban’s Weblog.

  15. When I first saw this, I thought that April Fool’s Day had come early! Even if being dressed in expensive clothing could improve someone’s chances at interview, it takes the pi$$ to think that someone on £71 or £56 a week JSA could afford this.

  16. Ive only had one interview out of the 10000s of applications ive sent out, better get saving for that Gucci suite next interview when ever that might be.

  17. It’s been stolen anyway and the logo removed with no attribution given:

    • I’m not sure this advice would be particularly useful to a typical graduate either.

    • The DWP are THIEVES AND PLAGARISTS!!

Probably an American site too – with the reference to ‘pants’ i.e trousers

      • Brenda Barnstubble

For a moment I thought the blooming jobcentre were expecting us to attend job interviews in our blooming bloomers!!

        • Calm down dear!

i have been there today and the stress/strained atmosphere is palpable – and i only went as in to the front of house bit. (And that was just the receptionistas/fashion police).

1st Receptionist (to 2 men): Only one of you can go up, you can’t go too.
Man: Oh, I can’t go with him to translate?
Receptionist: No (thinks for a moment) … We’ll arrange for a translator.
Reception 1 to 2nd reception person (who’s been away for 5 minutes):
We can’t let people be accompanied if/when they need someone to translate now …
2nd Reception person (seeming surprised but also not): Really?
1st Reception person (Firmly): No. We can’t. (looks meaningful/weary): Apparently it’s not allowed now …

  18. Yosserian Hughes

It’s alright if you’re that fat cretinous fuck known as boris – the fuckin’ state of him?!

  19. Should be interesting getting all that gear in oxfam and feeding yourself from a £71.70 dole cheque.

  20. Hello all, first time posting here but have been reading here for about 6 months. This is unbelievable what’s next the sweat shops for the out of work to make cheap suits I can see it coming sadly our own range of suits probably with special labels showing we are out of work with the profits going to the (sarcasm mode) lovely wonderful caring Tories, that f**king dumbshit Smith twit makes me so annoyed with his stupid ways thieving gits all at Westminster.

  21. Yosserian Hughes

“It is always important to invest in a good pair of dress shoes”……

    …Unless you’re IDS (1min 27sec in) 😀

    • “You’ve got cheap shoes!” LOL. And by the look of it a cheap suit. Man at C&A hasn’t got a look-in!

    • “and you’ve got cheap shoes …” a classic line, and heartfelt.

What must IDS have taken away from that encounter when he thought back on it over a nice glass of chianti (or something stronger) that evening. So glad someone managed to film it. He must be oh so proud when he reflects on his day-to-day encounters with ‘ordinary’ people – the people he is (still) insisting he’s out to ‘help’.

And so ‘statesmanlike’ & revered! … it can’t be easy for him to travel out and about with the levels of adulation he’s insipid/’s inspiring.

      • Sooner or later someone will throttle the bastard. I remember reading that the filthy swine even used to put his underwear on expenses.

  22. UJM site is saying service unavailable….. Not fit for service that lot

  23. Why do they state the obvious do they think no one but them has a clue? It does just demonstrate they have no idea about the value of money themselves and how far £71 goes towards food and bills. The saying “heating or eating” doesn’t even include clothing.

  24. Reblogged this on Still Oaks and commented:
How long before the first sanction for not owning a slik tie?

  25. overburdenddonkey

this dress to impress campaign is morally despicable, they are trying to dress impressionable minds, and imply that jsa is generous etc etc…anyone fortunate to get an interview in this jobs starved economy, is going to be seen as a right pratt by an employer, if they turn up other than themselves, any self respecting employer wants to see the potential employee…this is the purpose of an interview, to get an impression of the PERSON, and that they will add value to their income….

  26. Seemingly tomorrow they are giving advice on grooming! I can see it now: Have a bath/shower and wash your hair, clean your teeth, have your hair styled or do it yourself, make sure your nails are clean& manicured, use an anti-perspirant/deodorant. Men, shave on the day or trim your beard etc. Women, do not wear too much make up keep it natural. Wear a little perfume/aftershave, use a breath freshener, make sure clothing is clean and pressed with no loose buttons or hanging hems. If you suffer from sweaty palms use a wet wipe – how am I doing at stating the blo*dy obvious, is it patronising enough?

    • Yosserian Hughes

Well ‘Jaunty’ olive-cooper tried to tell folk at a4e in Doncaster how to wipe their own arses……

    • curiouser and curiouser. All tips gratefully received as it’s been some time now since a course i went on that managed to have ideas both above and below its station (1980s but could as easily have been the 1880s). We had the whole of a lesson devoted to this very important ‘essential advice for the workplace’ (also were taught good housekeeping and how to open doors for one another). In between stressing the importance of correct grammar (G) and of never, ever pressing ‘1000’ on any photocopier or how to problem-solve/run away should the worst ever happen, we were straight-facedly treated to an A-Z of qualities essential to a successful and (!) rewarding work-life.

Eerily similar to this latest ‘bright idea’ it included such commonsensical & groundbreaking nuggets of advice as: E – Efficient and Effective ! (Miss Jean Brodie never died, she just moved to West Yorkshire and taught in a technical college). Most hilarious and also most patronising of all & somehow the saddest of these mantras (no-one knew whether to laugh or change courses), was: F – Free from breath & body odour. It did lead onto a fairly feminist/political discussion at break time and to a feeling of solidarity among most of us as well as a desire not to be any further patronised/pigeonholed or even typecast in the workplace. (There was one man on the course as well as several people retraining/upskilling – or fleeing earlier career choics & at the time it seemed both hilarious and a bit mystifying) … all references to support workers/secretarial staff were always given as female/all managers/employers described as male. It was a while ago but it felt archaic even then & this is how far we have come @2013.

Employers often (used to) ask at interview what the course included … i think they wanted to know if we had been shown how to recognise a keyboard at 100 paces and whether we were any good at making tea.

    • Unemployed people are stupid…thats what they think all that dole money spent on booze and drugs ..as well as mugging old ladies and growing weed..that’s their world view ..

  27. Just been lookin at DWP facebook page, what a fuckin laugh. Caroline the robot must have went into meltdown, never seen 1 decent reply back from it.

  28. As for the Jobcentres handing out info on how to dress – fuck ’em.

Some advisers in Jobcentres are reasonably dressed, however I and I’m sure most of you on here have witnessed some truly disgusting sights when it comes to advisers (men and women).

I’m not even going to get on about the smell of some (B.O.) also unshaven, stains on their shirts (incuding stail sweat), bad breath and so on – bloody hippocrites.

    • Invasion of the Decision Makers

And this is just the FLS (Front Line Staff)… ever wonder what a ‘decision maker’ looks like?… probably some ugly, alcoholic, unkempt lard arse sat in their pyjamas in their shit-stained knickers scratching their hairy arse as they sanction your benefits.

      • It’s why those so-called ‘decision makers’ take months to consider a JSA claim. Constantly drunk, un-washed, and always shifting about in their seats as their arses have never ever seen a toilet roll. People on JSA are better dressed and have better manners than the hidden-away DWP slobs with fancy titles – ‘decision maker’, etc.

    • For a short time I was on JSA when the my daughter’s DLA was stopped, the fat cow who could barely fit behind her desk as she was so huge, at the joblesscentre who constantly was itching to sanction me, stank of B.O. dressed like a scruff & spent the whole time stuffing her ugly mug with chocolate.
Will these “dress codes” apply to joblesscentre staff, as well, or is it to just the poor plebs who have the misfortune to step through the doors of these vile places?

      • The staff in my own rotten JCP don’t comply with or follow any dress-code themselves. If they did, the clothes being worn would all be smart business clothes appropiate to office/administration type employment. Not instead of what they currently wear, which resembles cheap clothes bought from 99p Stores or from Poundland.

Years ago JCP staff DID dress in clothing appropiate to the line of office/administrative employment they claim to be in, not any more though.

I’m expecting one day to walk in to my JCP and see all the staff wearing disney t-shirts and shorts all with donald duck or mickey mouse emblems all over them.

    • Sometimes I can smell a strong presence of alcohol wafting about in my JCP. I don’t suspect for one minute that the customers can be accused of being drunk….

  29. When shopping for your Edwardian wool frock coat, always line the inside of your carrier bag with aluminium foil, so as not to trigger the alarms as you leave…………………….

………….never go to shelf stacking as the naked rambler, getting aroused could prove fatal……………….

  30. This is the true outpouring of the idiot inbred upper class. They think they have managed to fool enough people (so far) into believing their lies, or for IDS just to believe his own lies. Now they are now so convinced that their views of the Manual Working Classes, or plebs for short, is validated so offer this fatuous advice. It falls into many of Gove & others own traps that they actually do think they are better than “us” and that we are to be treated like the backward natives in the 19th century colonies. Gove is of the opinion that food banks are needed because the plebs can’t budget the household income. That rather reminds me of a cookery book I have that advises on how to serve breakfast without a servant.

Or perhaps they suggesting that when we’re all out shoplifting to fund our drug habits we keep some of the better knock-off for the job interviews as commodities traders or the Whitehall Civil Service or Think Tanks or political assistants to the MPs? Oh dear, all THOSE jobs have already gone to the offspring of this unspeakable class of idiot. No wonder we’re in a depression.

    • I had a copy of that cookery book at school 40 years ago. If I remember correctly it was called the “Dundee Guide to Domestic Science”, the illustrations were all drawn in a 1950’s style as were the caveman attitudes to women portrayed in the book. Could only have been written by a man.
Used to envy the boys, they got fun stuff like woodwork!

      • Almost chopped my finger off in woodwork… … still got the scar to prove it… it was fucking dangerous… ‘Elf & Safety should have been crawling all over it!

      • When at infant school the boys had woodworking, so I asked to join, Rather a large kerfuffle followed, and I was allowed to join the group. The teacher, however, limited my role to “holding the nails” for the boys to hammer in – six year olds with full sized tools. After a strong complaint I was again banished to the knitting group, but at least I was able to still use my hands. Cavemen indeed.

        • And what about ‘metalwork’… we didn’t even have safety glasses… all sorts of shards of white-glowing metal flying all over the place… circular saws whirring round with no guards. One of my classmates cut his finger and the blood was gooshing a few feet high. The modern day equivalent would be ‘mandatory work activity’ placement!

          • Anyone remember the ‘technical drawing’ and the ‘T-square’… if you bent them over to fold them in two… which is what you 🙂 the fucking things snapped 🙂 just… and only just before the ends touched lol 🙂 Wasn’t me, Sir 😦 lol 🙂

  31. “Whilst in an interview, men should continually masturbate and shout, goodbye, goodbye, at the top of their voices……………..

……………..in this respect, they will not be able to tell if you are coming or going!”

  32. So if you go to an interview for a job (regardless if you get the job or not) the jobcentre will phone the employer to make sure you turned up and how you were dressed?

If you went to the interview in some nice clobber and you wore a nice watch, I’ll bet the Jobcentre fraud team will pull you in wanting to know where you’ve got your nice clothes from and how you paid for them – not to mention the watch!

    • overburdenddonkey

      obi
my fear is that some will take their advice plunge themselves into deep debt….

    • @0bi I already explained the surreal aspects of all this..
      1 starvation creates jobs
      2 buying clothes helps employment
3 buying clothes means starving yourself

      Starving yourself means you die
That way you are removed from unemployment statisctics and saves tax payers money.

      See it all makes sense..

  33. To quote Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars – ” IT’S A TRAP”

  34. So long has IDS doesn’t say “I am your father” fancy being related to that.

  35. Have Camoron and his sidekick Osborne learned how to tie their shoelaces yet?

  36. Did you all know that if you secure an interview the Jobcentre still have a fund that they can buy you New Pants, New shoes, New shirt and a tie. It’s limited to £200 per person and available to everyone signing on.

Ask your adviser about this next time you sign on and if they say no, call a floor manager over and they will soon say yes.

    • Last time I used it the Jobcentre sent people to Topman (Quality) to get your clothes – Now they send you to Matalan (Cheapo).

    • It’s called the Flexible Support Fund, seems to vary between Jobcentres whether its possible to access it or not though, some info is at: http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/research/briefing-papers/SN06079/jobcentre-plus-flexible-support-fund

      • @johhny I wonder if MPs use this fund oh wait they have their own special fund don’t they…

      • & as well today they’ve implied that any clothing allowance no longer is to come out of the flexible support fund. Or that they suspect this was a (recent) chang (OR else felt it safest to say so in case)? – Kafka-like. They “think” it will come from Adviser’s Discretionary Fund (?) instead – which sounds nebulous/unlikely.

But there seemed to be even higher-than-usual levels of confusion/people being sent round in circles in friendly-neighbourhood jcp today … who knows if this could be just one person’s ‘belief’ and/or this particular jcp’s ‘advice’ could change (back again) tomorrow? Something like battle-fatigue seem to be setting in, almost as though the speed of so many recent changes is causing an increase in levels of uncertainty as to which way is up (in advisers). Some barely-contained anger/stress was on display from one frontline staff member – their whole manner could just about be described as civil, but barely. They went quite ott on suspecting someone of having left a bag unattended near to the entrance – v. bad vibrations & an air of quiet desparation. A million miles away from the public image of a supportive organisation they appear so desparate to present for public consumption. (Sorry Iain, but it’s true).

    • I had an interview in November, I asked for help obtaining an outfit and was told I had to ask The Work Program people as I was now under them (bearing in mind I then quite literally had one day to get the outfit because only when you have secured an interview are you entitled to any help with such things as an outfit).

I had to walk to the other side of town to the venue of The Work Program – I did this and was told I would have to come back the next day. The next day I was presented with a £30 Primark voucher card for an entire outfit.

It is not easy finding a full outfit, including shoes in a shop that is`nt the best in any varied approach to individual taste/ Nor top quality tailoring to fit – A black skirt (I would not normally be seen dead in, My size 12 waist for some reason assured I must have ginormous hips in Primark world of tailoring), A white blouse, A pair of tights and A pair of shoes indeed came to under £30 ( £27) but, mid winter I needed a sensible top to not only keep me warm but, also flatter the ensemble (My everyday coat is a hand me down sporty jacket).

I wore an old jumper to the interview, in honesty it isnt a disgusting old thing but, it didnt exactly flatter and some (snobs) might say `I looked like I hadnt put in any effort`.

I didnt get the job (dont think the jumper did it??)

      .

      • elohimette … wait for it … you were lucky!
This week the WP (mine anyway) are pleading poverty themselves – due to … “government cuts” & their budget’s been slashed. This week – it’s a shiny new five pound note (tops) & don’t spend it all at once! This offer might not be around for long … get it while it’s hot. Just don’t all rush at once as even maryqueenofshops would struggle to translate this into something fabulous ,,,

    • @obi how soon will they say ‘ yes ‘ has it been timed ?

    • The same world as FinkFurst over on tom pride blogg. They are nothing but a pack of piss takers.

      • @fawkes yeah he gets up everyone’s nose….

      • overburdenddonkey

        g fawkes
every one is complex in this crazy world, our strength here is that we know everyone needs the vitals of life or we suffer and/or perish…we protest against all those who loot our pasts, presents, and futures, therefore those who think their lives are of more importance than ours….

  37. As someone has already pointed out – how are people supposed to pay for this? I agree that people should try to dress well for interviews – how about clothing grants to assist with this? Perhaps not to buy new clothes, but at least to have suits and coats dry-cleaned, shoes mended – perhaps even a hairdo? People are caught in a vicious circle, aren’t they – you give a bad impression if you go to a job interview looking scruffy, but if you’re unemployed, you can’t buy clothes,,,,and so on. Is there any way we could petition for the DWP to set aside some funding for this purpose? And travel expenses is another thing.,…

    • Could have just been me,but for some reason I couldn’t help noticing shop displays yesterday, Next, for example, the only men’s clothing displayed in the windows were formal suits & looking in the store the women’s dept seemed to be infested with plain white shirts(£38!) black A-line skirts, matching jackets & trousers all to be finished off with black frumpy court shoes.
Same with M&S & even Primark seemed have double the amount of similar garments on the rails.Just seems very odd. Could there be some subliminal message being sent out….?

  38. I’m pissed off having to use that web shite called Universal Jobmatch. It never fucking works!!!! A big pile of donkey bollocks implemented to sanction is all it is.

    • I dont use it – I pretend that one of the jobs I have indeed applied for was a direct link from UVJM.

      • Landless Peasant

I don’t use it either but was recently notified that my account would be terminated if I don’t log-on as it has been a year since I last used it, and then I would be sanctioned. So now I just log-on once a week just for the sake of it, but actually use CV Library for my jobsearch instead.

        • JCP cannot issue an illegal sanction if they do not have automatic access to your UJM account. Their own UJM toolkit webiste clearly states that UJM access can only be given to them on a purely voluntary basis. If they issue a sanction over non-automatic access, see the JCP manager and ask to see their own rules and guidelines regarding account access.

        • @landless the shit goes on..a bloke on guardian cif told me he was frogmarched to a jcp terminal just to be forced to login on UJM…

        • Havnt had that happen to me yet but, when I do? (Which I undoubtedly will do) I will follow your route

            56. You also cannot issue a Jobseeker’s Direction to mandate a claimant to give us access to their account – this is their decision not ours.

            Actively Seeking Employment.

            92. We cannot specify to a JSA claimant how they provide us with records of their jobsearch activity and Universal Jobmatch will not change this – it is not therefore possible to require JSA claimants to give DWP access to their Universal Jobmatch account.

  39. hi folks, the job centre has an allowance called the flexible support fund. the sneaky bastards dont make it known but you can ask for it to purchase interview clothing and suitable footwear. its a voucher you can use in slaters, matalan, dorothy perkins and a few other places…. maybe if everyone starts asking for it to buy decent interview clothing they will get pissed off. i know after 6 months on the dole after graduating my decent clothes have been sold or dont fit…… hope this helps a bit and if you remind the advisor of this advice by mrs gove being government approved then it should be justified you get the money 🙂

    • I believe that fund ends when one is put on the Work Programme, at least that is what I was informed by the Jobcentre. The JC tell you to ask the WP advisor for these type of expenses. That funding ended and then transferred to the Work Program providers to cover their registration fee I’m sure robbing Peter to pay Paul. A fiddle in other words.

    • Can this fund be used to purchase a pair a sports shorts and digital watch to attends interviews? 🙂

  40. Good to see Tesco, Morrisons and Marks & Sparks profits plummeting and their fucking share price plunging 🙂 Serves the cunty capitalist workfare exploiting bastards right lol 🙂

  41. A bit off topic but does anyone know what the policy is regarding selling personal items on ebay whilst on benefit? A simple Google search reveals nothing concrete other than it is more than likely safe as long as you are in fact selling personal items as opposed to those bought with the intent to sell on. And of course have a private seller account rather than a business one which obviously would be benefit fraud…

    • It is as you’ve said, as long as it’s your own items then it’s alright. If you buy stuff to sell on – either through a business account or a private one – then that counts as income, and it’d have to be declared.

    • Don’t tell them or they will sanction you for 6 weeks and say you are self employed. They will actually encourage you to sell on ebay first!

This is the petition against the disgusting channel 4 program ‘ benefits street ‘ why the fuck are tv ppl still churning out this shit even lord fraud says the figures not high who is behind all this crap

    • Like Big Brother, or I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, the general public, reduced to its lowest common denominator, likes nothing better than to watch real people making spectacles of themselves, particularly when what viewers see has been deliberately edited in order to reinforce false prejudices amongst the audience. If we still had public hangings large numbers of people would attend them too.

The media pillory benefit claimants because it gets punters to buy newspapers or watch television programmes. No doubt the advertisement slots on C4 before during and after the Benefit Street programme will be purchased by companies whose customers will be in the demographics most likely to disapprove or or even hate people in receipt of social security.

  45. I will happily wear an Armani Suit and an expensive rolex watch to any interview provided the jobcentre will happily and freely give me the money to spend in Harrods in order to buy these luxury items…

    • If you were an MP you could get your posh suit and watch on expenses
.guess who gets to pay for that lot..

      • Most of the JCP staff put in fraudulent claims just like their bosses in Whitehall – those smug tory wankers ( with money and travel expenses falling out of their arses) claiming to run the country.

I just got that comment from the guardian CIF on thread on why tesco and other high street stores not doing so well..its got nothing to do with economy oh no. In fact some commenters claim its to avoid those low life claimants who shop who have that Lidl experience as they call it…
I note that workfare not mentioned

  50. Ever so more deluded and out of reality now as facebook and teaching us how to dress for interviews is more important than actually supplying real jobs and real help.

All we get is universal shite match ( a sanction machine). Of which I am fucking about by using the chrome app and applying for any job automatically to save me from having to waste valuable PC time on a dodgy website.

  51. Went to sign on today and I was telling the adviser that Universal Jobmatch had major issues (not being able to log in, losing connection, repeated jobs and so on). To my suprise he said it’s a total waste of time and the money could have been better spent in updating the old system.

  52. Iain Duncan Smith

Reading the comments on here I must say that it is of no wonder you are all fucking un-employed plebs.

If you want to land a successful interview, it is therefore imperative that –

    (1) Your hair is cut short and has been washed. Being flop-haired like Boris Johnson, or having a slap head potentially showing tattoos does not bode well. A visit to the hairdressers pays dividends on first impressions.

    (2) Be clean shaven and also wash your face with soap; the use of aftershave is advisable also. Having a beard or stubble on an un-washed dirty face could see your potential boss write un-desirable on your application form. The caveman look is not in fashion so there is no excuse to go around looking like bigfoot.

    (3) Wear a suit and tie, preferably not with garish colours or styles. The wearing of an B.O. stained T-shirt and dirty jeans will see you fail your first impression with the boss. Oh, and remember to wash your nether regions and wear clean pants too. You don’t want to have your cum stains showing on your trousers, or the smell of underwear B.O wafting out from between your legs.

    (4) Remember to get there no more than 20 minutes before your interview time slot. Don’t fucking stay in bed until the last minute as this will cost you the job, you lazy cunt.

    (5) If you have gained the job after following all my sound advice, you will be one less person I have to fucking support through my department.

……….but the corrupted media peddles the same old crap, day in, day out.

Reality is not an illusion, just ask anybody outside of London…………..

  60. Does anyone remember a similar project recently? It was also from an US site, but way more abstract. Men’s wear only demanded a tailored suit while women had to wear a fitting skirt, blazer, blouse, heels so on, as stated above BUT it also detailed every little make-up and hair detail. It had nice photos of what not to wear – of course, it had a lady slouching in a suit and flat shoes. Progressive, aint it?

Also, does the Jobcente consider that in some jobs such a frock would be a no go? Imagine a builder coming dressed like this or a cleaner. People are usually biased on clothes so I believe the thought progress would go like this “ohhh, fancy suit – SUSPICIOUS – they’ll move on quickly!”. Also, yes JC should provide protective wear for such jobs, but I’ve heard plenty of people asking and getting denied.

As a person in a creative field, I can say that if you apply for a similar job, a more interesting ensemble would get it. For interviews, I waltz in jeans (hah, most expensive one I own cost 15 quid – yes they last :P), the trendy shirt they abhor as pics in the link above suggest, a trendy jacket (FOLDED SLEAVES) – don’t remember the cost: shirts were 15 quid together, jackets (yep, own two) were both 30. This has been expesive as hell for me, as I bought the tops together! Now, the shoes, oh the shoes – MOST PRICEY THING I OWN – docs, yup, 50 quid on sale, lasted 5 years so far. BUT I HAVE A WATCH – does the blue Sekonda one on sale last year (seriously, everyone has them) counts?

One more thing to add – let’s say a woman is physically disabled and can’t wear heels – WHAT NOW!?

  61. Landless Peasant

My mate has just bought a velvet suit for four quid from a charity shop, like new and a perfect fit. BUT is it acceptable to wear a brown velvet suit to a job interview, or does that automatically mark you out as a Fifth Columnist/Communist/homosexual?

  62. Landless Peasant

Is it ok to wear multi-coloured stripey socks like Jon Snow on Channel 4 ?

    • lp, In case your mate does decide to wear velvet to an interview – perhaps leaving out the stripey socks but with a wide-brimmed hat, you (sorry, he) might look a bit like a slightly worn Quentin Crisp, as played by the fabulous John Hurt (& who was also Winston Smith!) – so might possibly be taken for 2 of those 3 – y/he might scare the horses if it’s any kind of civil servant job. Very Englishman in New York …. depends on the shade of brown though – it would have to be a dark shade – obviousy.
      Hope this helps.

    • Once you are established (rich / famous / a total cunt) You can do what you want and wear what you want…..
Until that day (which will never come) you must wear black or `very, very, very, very dark blue socks 🙂

EXTREMELY STRANGE HOW THE DWP ARE DOING ALL THEY CAN NOT TO FULFILL THIS FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST.

WHY WOULD THE DWP TRY TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM THIS RENEGADE COMPANY, ATOS, AFTER SINGING THEIR PRAISES FOR SO LONG?

COULD IT BE THAT THE MEDICAL REPORTS THEY CONDUCTED WERE FLAWED?

COULD IT BE THAT THE SO CALLED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ONLY HAD A CERTIFICATE THAT WAS RECOGNISED ONLY BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE AND NO REAL MEDICAL ORGANISATION.?…………….

OR COULD IT BE THE EMBARRASSING AMOUNT OF DEATHS AS A RESULT OF HEINOUS WELFARE CUTS TO THE DISABLED AND POOR THAT ARE BEING WITHHELD BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA?

POLITICS KILL, AND THE TWISTED POLITICS OF THIS GOVERNMENT, GO UNCHALLENGED………….

    • Agenda to social, class and ability cleanse – I keep referring to the propaganda of Goebbels and Hitler as also the desired outcome.
      .
The methods used today are no different to those used in Nazi Germany, It is not a particular race being targeted but, like The Third Reich the social, the class and the ability cleanse is in motion.

It is why Healthcare is being abused, it is why The mentally and physically ill are being targeted in such a brutal manner, unable to fight their corner and with media bullshit refusing to tell the truth – The Government / Elites are deliberating it all.
Hitler hated the `imbeciles and `incapable` (His words not mine) – weakness of any kind was an insult to humanity, – Today`s Elites are equally as hateful and desire world domination in severity and, thus are already almost there via banking, multinationals and causing mass destruction of society – The annihilation of the weak and vulnerable is the path along the way

People forget (and of course were never educated about) the mass slaughter of the physically and mentally disabled throughout the nationalist socialist reign – Remember after the war the medical scientists of Nazi Germany were absolved of their crimes if willing to come work for both the USA and UK using the same techniques used under Hitler`s authority – There is nothing humane about the drugs forced onto the masses in guise of healthcare – They are killing and maiming brains rapidly

      – Note the amount of mentally ill cases have risen since the revamp of 1950`s brain drugs in the 80`s (2005 Whitaker claimed it as `6 fold`).

People who have initially had psychological problems, Anxiety, Mild depression, fatigue, stress related exhaustion whether from job loss, loved ones dying, overworked, relationship breakdowns etc are being diagnosed and drugged via false science claims of chemical imbalances.

People are being drugged for having normal human emotions and the results are sickening.
In my view (and from personal experience) we are being made ill and deliberately being annihilated all the while a profit is made from us.

  66. I once went for a interview to a local call centre a couple of years ago, and asked the Jobcentre advisor what I should wear to give the best impression. I was advised to wear my suit, silk tie, black shoes and wristwatch as they are advising jobseekers to do currently. Unfortunately they were having what they called a ‘Dress Down Friday’. Imagine my surprise to be confronted by an interview panel dressed in bleached and ripped jeans with football tops on. I felt like someone had written a swear word in biro on my forehead for all to see. Needless to say I didn’t get the job, but received feedback in a telephone call which suggested that for any subsequent interviews I might consider dressing ‘a little more casually[. I no longer take any notice of any advice my Jobcentre issues unless backed up by a Mandatory Letter, since they are all full of it.

Leaked data suggests the Department for Work and Pensions is holding Atos to extremely tight tolerances. Photograph: Janine Wiedel Photolibrary/Alamy
Ask Atos, the company responsible for executing the work capability assessment (WCA), or the Department for Work and Pensions, which defines how the WCA is conducted, and they will tell you that they have no targets for the number of people who pass. Yet a new report from the Centre for Welfare Reform, How Norms Become Targets, uses a leaked set of Atos data to suggest that the DWP is holding Atos to extremely tight tolerances on its results.
Atos and the DWP admit to the existence of “statistical norms” and that these are used to manage the performance of individual healthcare professionals carrying out the assessments. Campaigners have long claimed that these norms function as de facto targets, but were surprised by the detail of the data logged and matched against acceptable ranges. Not only are there figures for overall numbers of people awarded the points needed to qualify for the employment and support allowance (ESA), figures also exist for individual prognoses, for the points awarded, even for the word count of the summary findings. And each Atos region is expected to stray no further than 20% from the national average.
Combining any data-gathering system with pressure to meet expectations will drive staff to converge on the “official” numbers; norms will become de facto targets, and no manager wants to be forced to justify their region’s figures. Unfortunately pressure to meet expectations is exactly the process described to the Guardian by Atos whistleblower Dr Greg Wood, who went public after being repeatedly asked to change assessments, including at least one case that conflicted with his professional medical opinion.
Whether the Atos data represents targets, as the CWR report suggests, or norms, as Atos insists, the numbers themselves are deeply problematic. An assessor is expected to see about 40 people per week, 65% of whom, the data shows, are expected to fail the assessment. The remainder will be split between the ESA support group (14.5%) and the work-related activities group (20.5%). Those who pass, in either group, are then further divided across five sub-groups, which specify whether an applicant should be expected to recover in six-24 months or “longer term” (in practice three years). Only 2.6% of WCAs are expected to result in a “longer-term” prognosis, which effectively means an assessor can allocate the prognosis to just one person a week; allocating a single extra person across a month hovers on breaching the allowed 20% variation. All other applicants, no matter their disability, are labelled as expected to have recovered within two years or less.
This suggests an explanation for some of the stranger Atos rulings, where people with lifelong or degenerative disabilities have been told their conditions are expected to improve in six months. Any assessor struggling to keep down their average for longer-term prognoses has to be tempted to assign a shorter prognosis instead. Someone with a long-term disability should theoretically face an assessment once every three years, but if they are consistently assigned to the six-months prognosis group, they will potentially face not one but six assessments in that period.
Similar problems exist for points awarded during the assessment. The “descriptors”, if matched, are worth six, nine or 15 points, and many disabled people will match multiple descriptors. It takes 15 points to qualify for the ESA, yet the report suggests national averages of 2.1 points for physical issues and 3.6 points for mental issues. The only way to maintain such low averages is by scoring several people at zero points for each one who passes. Are cases of people who score zero points when they clearly should pass simply evidence that the assessor saw too many seriously ill and disabled people that week? There is already an outcryover the state of the work capability assessment, with roughly one in six of all assessments successfully appealed against, at a cost to the Tribunals Service, and the taxpayer, of more than £75m per year. If that failure rate is not caused by poor quality work at the healthcare professional level but is a consequence of the Atos management system, which in turn is driven by the contractual requirements placed on it by DWP, then shouldn’t that out

          • I read that artical on Dr Wood it didnt suprise me the way I was treated in my assesment as the real reason for my application for ESA was ignored instead my mobility was the main topic of assesment. How low can they really go …genocide ?

  70. ………..extract taken from staff bulletin to DWP internal departments on 7th Nov 2013, as highlighted in Daily Mirror;

evidence to be obtained before a decision can be made on balance of probabilities.
    12. In exceptional circumstances, should all sources of evidence be exhausted and it is still not
possible to reach a decision on balance of probabilities, the designated person may seek
advice from ATOS using the DBD 385 via the medical evidence wizard.
    ………………………………………………………………………………

…………..they are saying, the use of ATOS material in making a decision on a disabled persons claim, must only be used if every other avenue has been thoroughly exhausted…………….

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO ATOS WERE HERALDED BY THE DWP AS THE MOST HIGHLY TRAINED FIRE BREATHING DRAGONS OF THE HEALTHCARE WORLD.

TODAY THEY ARE NOT EVEN ON THE BACK BURNER……

NAMED AND SHAMED AS THE CHARLATANS THAT THEY REALLY ARE,
“THE PRODUCT OF A STATE ENLISTED, DISABILITY DENIAL MACHINE THAT HOLD NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER, A SHAM IN EVERY RESPECT”

…………a ruthless organisation that has brought about deaths in our community, sponsored by the DWP in collusion with another government department, Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service,

“A FINELY HONED, WELFARE AND DISABILITY KILLING MACHINE”

    • I WOULD ASK ANYONE ON THIS BLOG, WHO HAS UTTER CONTEMPT FOR THE WAY THE GOVERNMENT TREAT OUR POOREST AND DISABLED, TO GO ON THE 38 DEGREES SITE, TYPE IN SAMUEL MILLER AND SIGN THE PETITION……………………

IT MUST BE IRKING THEM AS THEY KEEP REMOVING REFERENCES FROM THE INTERNET SITES…………..
