Workers Of The World Relax, Universal Automation Hits Google Store

Universal-Automation1-appIain Duncan Smith’s plans to force claimants to spend 35 hours a week endlessly applying for unsuitable jobs via the DWP’s shoddy jobsearch website have suffered another humiliating blow.

Universal Automation, which was recently released as a trial version, has now been launched in google’s Chrome store and is free to download.  The app automatically applies for jobs on Universal Jobmatch, the Jobcentre website that claimants are often forced to use as a condition of claiming benefits*.

According to the developers the latest version has several new features:

  • You can now set all Universal Jobmatch search parameters in the extension options. We added distance, posting date and job type.
  • The extension will apply for jobs on all pages of search results, not just the first one. To control that, you can set the maximum number of jobs the extension will apply for in a single session.
  • When the extension finishes applying, you can see a report with all jobs that were applied for.
  • There is a new delay option. It can be used to slow down automated applications so that the extension behaves more like a human using Universal Jobmatch.

Universal Automation was recently featured on The Guardian website, where those behind the app explained that the project was about more than just making life easier for unemployed people and winding up Iain Duncan Smith, but also aimed to highlight the drudgery of much of the work we do:

“We need to look at structural issues, such as role of unemployment in capitalist economy in general and also the particular condition of British economy at the moment. Basically most of work we do is at best socially useless and at worst actively harmful. Constant banging on about strivers, hard-working families, the squeezed middle and so on is only meant to obscure that,”

Whilst the app has designed to appear as ‘human’ as possible, obviously claimants should us this at their own risk.  As ever @refuted has good advice on twitter: “Would suggest anyone mandated to use #Jobmatch should create alternative account for experimenting with”.

* Whilst registration on the Unversal Jobmatch website can be compelled, there is currently no requirement to tick the box allowing the DWP to snoop on your jobsearch (you can also untick the box which asks if they can send you emails).  You should be under no obligation to use the website anywhere but Jobcentres and there is really no need to tell the DWP if you have a home computer.

      I don’t know about apps – but you could try learning knot tying, hangman’s noose isn’t actually all that tricky. Or you could tie up a tory instead. There is a form of specialised Japanese bondage that combines knot tying with string-figures (on the person being tied). If that’s too elaborate/or too sexy (!), then learn to tie knots that a tory can’t get out of. Then add railway line, car crusher, top of high building, whatever creative embellishments you want. Or you could make a monkey’s paw/monkey’s fist (a type of knot), and use it as a sort of mace to whack a tory in the face.

      Boris Johnson said he wants more done for people with IQ’s of 130 and above. Really, Boris? I think you’ll find, most of them are (thanks to government policies) stuck on Workfare at Poundland. And cleaning for much thicker people (academics) whose mummies and daddies paid for their postgraduate degrees. [Description of the film ‘Good Will Hunting’: says of a man in a university: “he has the brightest mind in the university, unfortunately he’s a penniless janitor.”] And picking up litter. And holding stop-signs at roadworks (poorly paid worker or unpaid workfare slave). And signing on the dole. And on disability benefits. And wiping elderly people in hospital/care. And having to hand out leaflets for crappy companies. And having their souls chipped away in McJobs. And on Work Programme. Or in jail for resisting the system.

      Actually you’d have to be pretty thick and with low self esteem to actually enjoy workfare or work programme, community placement or a McJob. They are aimed at destroying your self esteem and individuality.
      Psychology and psychiatry differentiate normal from abnormal. A normal person would be depressed by bad things happening to them. If you were happy about it, that would make you abnormal. So depression caused by HM Government, and everything stemming from government, is a natural healthy reaction to noxious stimuli (=IDS), called Reactive Depression – this form of depression is non-pathological. So it is NOT a mental illness.

      On the other hand, if you are an ordinary/poor person (it’s logical for the rich to vote in their own interests though), it looks highly pathological to vote for or support the Tories. It looks more like a mental illness to vote for the right, from the Tories to the BNP and UKIP, Taxpayers Alliance, and so on. Actually the BNP, UKIP and their type could have a point about repatriation. They (Griffin, Farage, Tommy Ro*BIN*son) should be DNA tested to prove their right to live here; and we could select the body part representing the percentage of their African DNA, for a start, for immediate severing and Fed-Exing to Africa. If you’re the whitest, straightest, most ablebodied Sun reader and beer drinker, a really macho big guy (with a big cock) and your own girlfriend/wife… then the tories look like your natural party. But how long before ‘they’ come for you? You stop being ablebodied, lose your job, lose your house, are lefthanded, have the wrong colour hair?

      In the same speech, Boris (note that IQ is called ‘average’ at 100; 2% of people are 130 or above) was very rude about “people with IQs of less than 85”. Boris is one to talk, being unable to think his way out of a paper bag. He may know some Latin, but he has less ‘street smarts’ than a tourist covered in bling who walks round covered in cameras and with an open wallet, at night in a high-crime area. He would score very low on general knowledge, maturity, emotional intelligence, and most other measures of intelligence. Real people with anything from a mild learning difficulty (these do not necessarily impair INTELLIGENCE itself!), to a severe learning disability, are much more ‘normal’ (whatever that means!…) and rounded individuals than Boris, the Eton/Bullingdon toffs, and politicians in general. A lot of them are being kicked off DLA and ESA onto JSA, and shoved on work programme and workfare. Even when they have massive additional physical disabilities or serious mental/behavioural problems, substance abuse disorders, social phobia or generalised anxiety disorder.

      Again in this speech, Boris said that inequality is an essential component of economic growth. Why doesn’t he go the whole hog-roast, and get himself a Plantation, sip iced gin in a mansion all day, and stick a bunch of black slaves to work the fields? (Cue Boris having wet dream about this, then waking up drunk at one of his silly private clubs for the richest and dimmest upper-class twits in the universe, and their invited guests. “BOY!”, he yells at a nearby black man. “Get me another Pimms, or I’ll whip you!” An aide comes over. “Um, Lord Mayor? It’s 2013, you’re pissed, we lost the colonies decades ago. And that’s the leader of Senegal!”)

      In fact there are slugs that can outsmart Boris bloody Johnson. And many of them are dead ones.

      People with a learning disability (etc.) are part of the disabled community, and should have the right to fight back against what the system is doing to us all (the poor etc.).

    Receipt of a negative report is all they ever set out to do and any transparency of the contract between ATOS and the DWP would prove this fact, this is why they seek to protect it’s content at any cost……………

    Personal tragedy, destitution and homelessness, undernourishment and death, were acceptable and cleverly overlooked by the decision not to have a real impact assessment done.

    Disability denial is not a crime if backed by the government, it seems…………………….

    …….but nobody has immunity from prosecution when the shit hits the fan….

    If that new app is available as a Mozilla Firefox addon I will certainly make use of it into my Firefox browser and fuck up any attempt of my JCP to try and make me do forced jobsearching.

    • Me too. I’m using Firefox on Ubuntu.

      • You can use Chrome on Ubuntu, just check out the repositories. The plugin would probably work in the un-Googlised version of Chrome called Chromium, also available for Ubuntu. I use Chrome on Linux Mint.

          • I do believe that there is an Ubuntu cola, but the word is from the Zulu language and means ‘humanity to others’. I’ve used the Ubuntu operating system for computers for over 5 years now. There is an amazing selection of software available from the Software Centre, most of it free.

            I do wonder why our governments at all levels, as well as businesses still use Windows, as it is costing us taxpayers a hell of a lot in licence fees. I put in an FoI request to my local council asking what they paid Microsoft for a licence to use just Windows XP… in 2010-11 it amounted to £234,000. If they all migrated to using Linux that figure would be zero for licence fees, though to be fair there would be some costs involved as they’d need to retrain some support staff, but as many of the support staff who have to keep Windows based systems running all day actually go home at the end of the day to a proper computer operating system – Linux!

            Doh, of course, what am I talking about? Of course they’re not going to adopt Linux… our governments are crap with computers and would far rather have the tax payer waste money on IT systems that can’t or don’t work.

            Windows 8 was considered such a risk that the games developer Steam decided to port to Linux as a hedge… and has now developed the Steam OS based on Ubuntu which will run on the upcoming Steam games console.

            One also wonders what Microsoft will want to charge us the tax payers for the dubious privilege of having Windows 8 on government computers?

        with a bit of luck then, when Microsoft end all Windows XP support and formally remove this obsolete operating system all the computers used in jobcentres (jobpoints, public access computers, job staff’s computers will no longer operate. Ha ha ha!

        • You are both correct JCP computers mostly run Windows XP, but some are still using Windows 2000, both systems now outdated unless you work at the DWP, for them it’s cutting edge – DOH!!!

          If you check the Jobpoint machines upon start-up (if you’re in a Jobcentre as they are just opening) you will see they all use Windows 2000.

          • The jobpoints in my lame JCP is more modern than that for they use Windows XP to run them. Nice of my JCP to keep up with the latest computer technology and operating systems. To them, Windows XP is all the rage and new-fangled.

            My own Windows 7 PC is much more faster than the jobpoints and the Windows 7 Professional computers that the desk monkeys use. Not that they even know how to operate a computer. I’m surprised they even know how to switch one on, let alone even manage to use it

            The QWERTY keyboard can be a strange, confusing, unknown thing to the desk monkeys pretending to do any real work…

      • To be fair to the DWP (never thought I’d say that…) XP is still an extremely popular system with many business and home users. Microsoft are desperate to get people off XP and using Windows 8 (or even 7), but many users are reluctant to give it up, even with next April’s deadline looming.

  6. Job Centre staff at my centre FORCE us to tick the box by claiming you have too. And that’s not just my advisor. I know from their idiot site and ToS and the fact the button is unticked by default that you don’t have to let them see anything. However, try explaining that to them. I could do their job better. Its like they look at you as if you’re an ignorant pile of crap when you try to contradict them no matter whether you’re right or not, and they’re the ignorant one’s. I bet they know we’re right and are told to ‘enforce’ the lies to get quotas of sanctions. Then I think some Job Centre staff are better than others, more knowledgeable, still remembering what it was like to be hunting for work.

  9. An assessor is expected to see about 40 people per week, 65% of whom, the data shows, are expected to fail the assessment. The remainder will be split between the ESA support group (14.5%) and the work-related activities group (20.5%). Those who pass, in either group, are then further divided across five sub-groups, which specify whether an applicant should be expected to recover in six-24 months or “longer term” (in practice three years). Only 2.6% of WCAs are expected to result in a “longer-term” prognosis, which effectively means an assessor can allocate the prognosis to just one person a week; allocating a single extra person across a month hovers on breaching the allowed 20% variation. All other applicants, no matter their disability, are labelled as expected to have recovered within two years or less.

    This suggests an explanation for some of the stranger Atos rulings, where people with lifelong or degenerative disabilities have been told their conditions are expected to improve in six months. Any assessor struggling to keep down their average for longer-term prognoses has to be tempted to assign a shorter prognosis instead. Someone with a long-term disability should theoretically face an assessment once every three years, but if they are consistently assigned to the six-months prognosis group, they will potentially face not one but six assessments in that period.

    Similar problems exist for points awarded during the assessment. The “descriptors”, if matched, are worth six, nine or 15 points, and many disabled people will match multiple descriptors. It takes 15 points to qualify for the ESA, yet the report suggests national averages of 2.1 points for physical issues and 3.6 points for mental issues. The only way to maintain such low averages is by scoring several people at zero points for each one who passes. Are cases of people who score zero points when they clearly should pass simply evidence that the assessor saw too many seriously ill and disabled people that week? There is already an outcry over the state of the work capability assessment, with roughly one in six of all assessments successfully appealed against, at a cost to the Tribunals Service, and the taxpayer, of more than £75m per year. If that failure rate is not caused by poor quality work at the healthcare professional level but is a consequence of the Atos management system, which in turn is driven by the contractual requirements placed on it by DWP, then shouldn’t that outcry be louder still?

    • I noticed that in the government policy on welfare reform, it said assessments would be designed to focus on what you can do rather than on the condition you have to supposedly help you back into work meaning if your suffering a terminal illness but can lift a box then you could stack a shelf in their eyes so your deemed fit for work.

When I went to sign on yesterday at a job centre on Teesside, I was told by a DWP advisor that Thornaby job centre plus near Stockton-On-Tees have completely done away with the jobsearch booklet and have forced claimants to put their jobsearch activities on UJM only, this person also said that all job centres will be adopting this shortly and it will soon be mandatory to let them look at your jobsearch and personal details on this site.
    Surely that can’t be right. I said that even if Duncan Smith personally directed me, I still wouldn’t do it. There must be some sort of legal challenge in this, they are going too far!!!!

      If it is the case then they will issue you with a jobseeker direction. They probably won’t because what they say has no legal basis and is probably untrue I’d be inclined to think.

      I have found there’s an awful lot of bluff as well as ignorance of the rules amongst Jobcentre staff.

      The first step would be that they’d need to provide internet access – they have no right to demand what sites you visit on your own computer. Secondly, competition laws regarding which “commercial” business sites you use would I’m sure make that illegal.

      The beauty of the Jobseeker direction is that it has to be “valid”..it can be challenged legally after all. The hearsay comments are worthless and should be ignored.

    • Ask them to put that in writing and sign it before you would consider doing it. Or take a tape recorder with you and tape what they say to you after letting them know that you’ve been advised to do so.

      • Each time they have asked me I have refused and said that I will not give them access to my account until it becomes written law. They are fine with that at the moment and to be fair, I don’t get much hassle from them as unfortunately it tends to be the youngsters who they bully the most.

        However, what is concerning me is that this other job centre has purposely done away with the written job search booklet and is at the moment refusing to accept written evidence of job search and stating that all claimants have to allow them access to their account. It seems to me that some of these job centres are doing things sneakily by the back door and soon others will follow suit.

        • As far as I know claimants can present their jobsearch record in any way they fancy, written or print-outs from Universal Jobmatch or whatever. I hand mine in written neatly in handwriting. Perhaps somebody can correct me if I’m wrong.

          • That is exactly the way the way I have been doing things, however, it seems that because many are now refusing to allow them access to snoop so job centre managers are sneakily inventing new ways to obey Duncan Smith and his warped agenda.

            • I don’t really see how they can refuse to accept a written jobsearch, particularly if you include some printouts of email responses and online applications. If you apply by snail mail the only evidence you can supply is in written form anyway. Does anybody actually log their jobseeking efforts on Universal Jobmatch as notes anyway? What a load of ka-ka.

            I do jobsearch on the CV Library website then print out the list of Applications I’ve made as evidence. The Jobcentre are quite happy with that and I even overheard the Adviser giving someone a Jobseekers Directive to create a CV Library profile and telling him to use it as I do for supplying the required evidence.

          • They “may”. The onus is on them (us) to satisfy the sanction-person that however we opt to present evidence is “reasonable” (to both sides), seems to be the way they choose to interpret the wording of the relevant sentence./section of the rule-book as it’s currently written …

            • As JB Boro says, above – what’s been quite ok suddenly becomes ‘unacceptable’ or called into question. I’m sure this happens very often but it’s being used as a tactic where people either haven’t allowed access/or have been able to agree to not use UJ (or there’s an ‘r’ in the month). One way is by ‘explaining’ the ‘You Must’ element by taking the words which define what JCP’s can/can’t do and twisting them round (changing the emphasis) to slightly alter the meaning. At the same time using veiled threats of handing down a ‘direction’. Because they do this with such great certainty (& menace) it’s easy to think ‘are they right & I’m wrong?’ & under pressure/fear of sanction, agree to what they say.

              When they say “We no longer have the job log books (for eg)”. it may well be quite literally true. But what they should be telling people is: “If you still prefer to write it down then do so – on your own version/piece of paper, notebook or whatever – you’re allowed to” – but they won’t say this – claimant’s have to raise it first. Then they shift tack (perhaps saying “You seem a bit aggressive today” or “Don’t you want us to help you find work?” “You want to find work don’t you?”) – all of which aren’t genuine queries about the job search situation, just different ways to try to get people to capitulate or (ideally) to relieve their own mounting tension through use of bully-boy tactics – if not hand out a sanction.

              For over a year now, it’s been drilled into the sanction officers/jcp staff that they need to get Everyone Signed Up to UJ & then they need to aim to get Everyone To Tick The Box Allowing Access. At this point they’re becoming desperate & as JB says, using (more & different) dirty tricks to Make It Happen or Make Someone else pay when they can’t manage to. It’s frustrating for them & they need to hit their targets (us). Also the WP are tellling (some) people something similar – “It’s only acceptable for you to jobsearch in X way & to allow access” …

              This is why it’s important to ‘Be Prepared’ & to keep reading this site/following Freedom of Information requests & sharing information (as knowledge is power) & it’s sink or swim/dog eat dog whenever anyone takes a step inside their friendly (!) neighbourhood JCP any time they have to. Who’d have thought it? I take the point that someone else has made about them bullying younger people more gleefully/successfully but it’s not confined to any one group & if they see a window of opportunity to sanction/pressurise people over UJ & etc. it seems to also be ‘open season’ …

          • You are allowed to present your evidence in any way you see fit. Thus it could be written on a sheet of paper or even read from a list. I have been tempted to give them an old style floppy disk (which I could write on my very old PC) and see if they can find a suitable disc drive with which to open it.

          • Job searches must be carried out using UJM it MUST be used it MUST be used otherwise IDS will look like a fool. Loyalty to IDS is more important than anything else.

        • They cannot refuse written evidence of a job search. Who gave them the divine right to declare how you provide your evidence so long as you are providing your evidence – this government has no mandate to harass the unemployed to death.

          • What a pile of steaming bureaucratic shite it’s all become, it reflects the mentality of IDS. The amount of tax payers money this poor excuse for a man has wasted is laughable when all this is supposedly meant to be saving money… for all the wrong reasons and methods. It’s shows his lack of intelligence to understand how to deal with welfare so those who are entitled get it and those who are certainly not entitled to it are refused or caught under a fair and properly organized series of measures that would and should kick workfare into touch. Was under the impression nobody wants to touch the site… thought it was riddled to bits by script kiddies and viruses. It would make no difference if it was based on some hosting server in Russia, India or even China.

          • Four weeks ago any references of jobs applied for were the requirement as part of a written record (which is fine) – this week that’s no longer enough & “We Must Have Printouts. Get us the printouts!”

            Of course, this is not because they don’t believe what’s being put in front of them … it’s just not “proof” (or evidence enough). Officially, these could then be just glanced at &, almost as quickly as if looking at a UJ record/account, they can be ticked ‘as seen’ & signing could happen quickly, smoothly and without any debating of terms … allegedly.

            But only until the week arrives where printouts/other documentation were somehow not available to bring – for whatever (logistical) reason …. then it [could just as easily] be sanction-city.

            I don’t want to give them what they are currently insisting on/attempting to force & possibly wanting to write into an agreement but its not for the reasons they think (give me strength).

        • If everyone folds to their threats we will soon end up in a dictatorship. I for one will not be intimidated and stand my ground. For this reason alone, I find they do not stand on my toes!

          • I too have had no real problems. Though I have spoken to a lot of young people who have had lots of hassle, though fortunately they seem to know their rights under the system. My Workfare advisor did try to convince me that I’d get sanctioned when I refused to fill in and sign the initial forms, but that came to nothing… and once I sent in the withdrawal of consent to share my personal information, (by recorded delivery, of course) I got even less hassle, and everything has been sweet since then. I attend my monthly meetings and they last approximately ten minutes and that’s it for another month. On my last visit my advisor actually admitted that Workfare could offer me nothing I couldn’t (and am) do for myself.

            I’m still not signed up to UJM. My JSA advisor tried to gently persuade me to sign up, but gave up doing that, and hasn’t hassled me about it since early December last year. However, something strange is happening with JobFit Interserve, as evidently they are putting all the ‘clients’ on their books through the sign up process again in the new year – they’ve already piloted it in Caerphilly. I don’t know details, so if anyone has any information about it, whether it’s happening in all the areas where JobFit Inteserve have the contract for Workfare, or is it just in Wales? It’d be nice to have just enough info so that at least an attempt could be made to mess the process up 🙂

      We cannot specify to a JSA claimant how they provide us with records of their jobsearch activity and Universal Jobmatch will not change this.

      So they’re either totally ignorant of the rules of the system they’re administring, or they’re lying.

      If it was me, I think I’d write

      (a) A letter to the JC manager, saying that you’ve heard this from his staff and could he please confirm it in writing.

    This is highly ironic. Automation and the use of computers has been used to force people out of work as their jobs have been mechanised. Now IT is also being used to help them apply for jobs on Universal Jobmatch. This will no doubt be to the ire of IDS and his squadristi, who demand that every job seeker should spend five hours a day looking for work.     • (just to reiterate) coalition have OT passed legislation forcing job seekers to use Universal JobSnatch. They’ve made it so that they can present it as JCP’s ‘default’ & preferred means while selling it’s (alleged) good points aggressively & ‘persuading/cajoling (pressurising)’ as many as they can to use it. The situation is still that it’s been engineered so that claimants have to be able to demonstrate/give reasons why they might not want to use it and is preferring to use other alternative ways to look for work – & it’s up to JCP ‘advisers’ to accept those reasons or keep pushing.

      Of course, the reasons given have to be valid (within the rules) & can’t be the whole truth (it’s a sanction machine; full of dodgy jobs) etc. They have to be around how the person prefers/can most successfully jobsearch & this can lead to lots of use of semantics/arguing/threats and general nit-picking – so in some cases it could be ‘easier’ to sign up & even use but not a blanket ruling to now.

    • The Poll Tax didn’t disappear, it just got modified a little and had a name change to Council Tax. Not a lot of difference, it’s still regressive and unaffordable to those on a low income, and indeed is relatively higher for smaller houses than big. And now that the unemployed are liable to pay an element of Council Tax it’s come full circle.

    In order to register for UJ you must first open a Government Gateway account. Apparently you CAN NOT be mandated to open a Government Gateway account.

    So they can mandate you open a UJ account, but not the GG account they you need to open a UJ account !

    It seems a neat little catch-22 situation, if correct. Has it been tried before ?

    I have an advisor meeting next week and, having still not signed up for UJ, I’ll be bringing this point to his attention and asking for a written confirmation or rebuttal.

  18. Another thought – what if someone was to open a fake UJ account, replace their CV with a statement regarding UJ and what they think of it and its instigators, then use UA to send it to as many companies as possible ?

    Of course I wouldn’t do anything like that myself, nor would anyone here I’m sure, but just hypothetically – is that possibe ? (I’ve no UJ account so far, so not sure of the details).

    Unfortunately, to confirm if the department holds the information you have requested would exceed the cost limits under the legislation.

    The law allows us to decline to answer requests under the Freedom of Information Act when we estimate that it would cost us more than £600 to confirm that the department holds the information requested. You may be interested to know that the limit is equivalent to 3.5 working days’ worth of work, calculated at £25 per hour.

I’ve always wondered, in a world that has never had so much money floating around in it, why they can claim that a decent life for all is somehow unaffordable, and how the UK, one of the richest nation states on the planet is so skint that it has to try and save money by persecuting the poor and the disabled and the sick, and yet somehow finds the money to give politicians large pay rises, spend obscene amounts of money on departmental furniture, or waste money on IT schemes that don’t have a hope in hell of working.

            I’m an anarchist, but I don’t go around smashing windows, and I often wear a three piece suit, (it is black, and I quite often get mistaken for an undertaker!) on which I always make sure I have a little black star – it makes for conversation. I’m going to give it a go, on a spoof account of course, which is perhaps the best way as it’s still new software, and I don’t want it coming back at me and biting me in a painful place. And using it on a spoof account will still result in effectively using UJM as a protest against this obnoxious regime.

    I easily applied for eight suitable vacancies in my travel to work area in under five minutes using the new Chrome App with info from my search criteria. Kind of makes the 35hr per week minimum jobsearching quota laughable doesn’t it.

    I’d like to see the twats at the JCP try to sanction me for using the Chrome App. All it does is make jobsearching more accessable and wider ranging than before. And it helps to find and apply for suitable jobs I would have otherwise missed and later discovered another day have been removed from their (spyware) infested website.

    I’m doing what is asked by jcp in using UJM and applying for jobs on there, so what is the problem for them? I’m using a method which will no doubt help me to find and apply for jobs faster and easier.

    As for the tick boxes, I will never enable them and set myself up for an illegal sanction without any knowledge or not. the jcp advisor i sometimes have to see is a right stuck up cow who tries to trip everybody jobseeker up when they have to sign on with her.

    I know about the UJM app available on Chrome, so I will be taking steps to make it a new ruling in my Department of mis-work and mis-pensions, that use of the chrome app will be an automatic 3 month sanction without and fucking appeal.

    As you can see from their reply, they accept that the HCP carry no recognised qualifications, say no more…….

    However, to further announce that he will be working to help them get some medical qualifications, is admitting that all prior tests are not worth the paper they are written on…….

    Imagine getting an MOT certificate, only to be told later that the examiner was not really up to the job, unqualified!!
    Then, to put you at ease, don’t worry, we will try to get the appropriate accredition……

    To brand the whole Work Capability Assessment as a complete fiasco is an understatement.
    What you are witnessing is a complete failure of reassessment by charlatan operatives that the Secretary of State saw fit to enable, to steal disability benefits………………..

    The only qualifications that are worthy of any value are those that are recognised by our existing medical organisations.

    It’s no good trying to fast track a qualification that carries no weight, you can’t make a tyre fitter into a piano tuner by creating a pie in the sky certification system, but this is just what the DWP will try to do.

    Rather than admit defeat, headed by the most famous comedian, IDS, they will carry on blowing countless millions in their wake, as they have done in every thing they have tampered with……………

  30. No more point in using Universal Jobmatch, it has become a distribution warehouse for other Jobsites. Might as well just go straight to C.V. Library or one of the others as their all 1000% better than the DWP’s own mongrel UJM, which fucks up all of the time.

    • 99% of all jobs advertised on Universal shitematch are now lifted directly from all other job recruitment sites as employers are losing faith in actually using UJM as a sole means to advertise their vacancies.

      is it a government plan (or conspiracy) to make USM force all other job websites out of existence by nicking their own job adverts and therefore all jobseekers being told to use USM only?

      I’m pretty well sure that if all the other job websites refused to be kowtowed (against free business competition laws) into giving their own job adverts to USM (against, that the dodgy DWP website will cease to function and therefore be brought into question even by the faceless bean counter lackeys,( of which turned the other way when IDS flushed £40 million quid down the bog on his useless reforms).

      Nearly every job I apply for on USM now takes me directly to a random job website where if I had an online account with them, I would have still applied for the job anyway regardless of using USM or not.

      Fuck the DWP. I’ll do jobsearching my way, not how you fucking tell me to. My way is more constructive and productive and I will use the Chrome App whether the twats at the JCP like it or not. Besides, they cannot tell me on how to use my own computer nor which on websites to search for jobs on, either on my PC or not.

      From now on, I’ll auto apply for jobs on my own PC as it is more faster, easier and more productive and when I next go to the bollcocks work programme I will simply fuck about on their computers looking at eBay or Amazon as I would have already done MY jobsearch prior and not later having to waste my valuable time in a work-house type environment.

      * As for the WP, I told them a few months ago to fuck off by issuing them a Data Protection Act Section 10 letter formally ceasing their access to, and the storage of, both my CV and Email address as I was no longer happy they could exercise their unlawful rights over me.

      Roll on next year when I will tell them in person to fuck off and get real proper jobs instead after I exit the mis-work programme.

    • Don’t forget that the work programme actively encourages people to accept Zero-hour contracts under a false threat of JSA sanction for non-compliance. I was offered three seperate zero-hour contracts by my useless WP provider and basically messed them around each time.

They are only obsessively interested in harvesting people’s CV’s and email addresses for their own gains and to boost their coffers if this information is passed on to the highest bidder (any employer keen to make a good impression with the provider. Any offer of employment they give should be viewed with suspicion as chances are it’ll be a zero hour contract only from the agency with close ties to the WP provider – this I know to be fact as my own fucktard provider has done this on me and later denied/ignored it.

      And if you request information as to where you’ll be sent to carry out this type of work contract, they will refuse/ignore to tell you where the work is, wage structure, what type of work is involved, etc.

      When I asked about one contract that the WP tried to off-load on me in where I would be working, I was met with a stony wall of deafening silence from my advisor.

      So since then, if i get messed about by them, I simply return the favour and piss them around.

        Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants are not required to apply for zero hours contract vacancies and they will not face sanctions for turning down the offer of a zero hours contract
        Print it out and wave it in their smug faces, the next time they try to push you into a zero hours non job.

I’ve come to the conclusion that being on JSA is akin to being dangled on the end of a worn out piece of string over the toilet bowl, and that when each illegal sanction is given out the string holding you up is in effect cut in half, thus dropping you feet first straight into the un-flushed bog.

    When the forced sanction is ended, this is nothing more than being dredged from the toilet by the puppets controlling your life and that the string is repaired with a sticking plaster.

    The more times your string is cut, the less chance it can be repaired and that your insistance for a new piece of string is refused as you can only be issued with just one piece of string, as all the other bits of string has previously been given to the scroungers who smoke dope all day long.

    Civil servants have been told they can judge whether to pay benefits to ­the sick by ­Googling their illnesses, after proper tests were scrapped.

    In a memo leaked yesterday, Department for Work and Pensions staff were instructed to look online when assessing new claims for Disability Living Allowance for under 18s and Attendance Allowance for over 65s.

    Shadow Work Secretary Rachel Reeves accused the Tory-led Government of showing “utter contempt” for disabled people.

    The Labour MP said: “Out-of-touch ministers need to explain to disabled people how they’ve got to a situation where guidance is being issued telling civil ­servants to look for advice on complex disability cases on the internet.

    “It’s just one more sign of the utter incompetence of DWP Ministers and their total contempt for a fair assessment process for disability benefits.

    “It beggars belief that staff are instructed to look online for information on complex medical conditions until a full service is resumed.”

    The fiasco comes after medical examinations run by hated contractor ATOS were scrapped and the rolling out of the new benefit, Personal Independence Payment — which is replacing DLA — was delayed.

    Disabled people whose conditions have worsened are also being assessed by officials surfing the web.

    The November 7 DWP staff bulletin stated: “Medical Practitioners will no longer be available as a source of evidence.”

    Decision makers are advised to consult the “recognised internet sites such as Cancer Research UK and NHS Choices”.

    Other suggestions include phoning the claimant or their carer, discussing the case with colleagues and seeking advice from social services.

    But the DWP stressed officials were not just looking conditions up online.

    A spokesman said: “Decision makers can also use information from sources including the claim form, care plans, medical reports and carers.”

  55. Just received our quarterly magazine from our Charitable housing association of how they are micro managing us and our affairs.

    They tell us of all the good projects they have financially contributed to within the community ( which should be council business not a housing associations), yet when you try to get a repair done they tell you it’s months before the work can be carried out because the tradesmen you want are all off sick or on holiday or some other lame excuse.

    They ask us to fill in surveys for another new department opened up to provide well paid jobs for councillors or failed businessmens kids, while kids from the rented sector are told to do workfare for them in their gardening sector.

    They do dog chipping, garden inspections, planting trees etc in no mans land, give money to youth clubs yet cannot afford to pay peoples bedroom tax that they have willingly imposed via orders from those on high then deny that it is their doing only national government are the baddies.

    The only thing they should be providing is adequate housing and a repair service, the rest they should bloody well mind their own business and stop asking for people’s opinions which they then ignore or whitewash or lie their way out of any complaints.

    The councillors will tell you bedroom tax is not their business along with the mp who just ignores emails you write complaining about government policy.

    I have never yet been sanctioned, but everyone not under a sanction has been given a list of times when they sign over holiday period including gaps in signing (ie excused signing) due to their offices being closed and a list of dates when payment is issued/sent and thus we can more or less work out when we will actually receive it (it will be sent/issued slightly earlier if the banks are shut when we were due to receive it because it takes so many banking days to clear) . If they have agreed that your sanction is over by 3 months then they surely must owe you the information about the time when it is issued/sent and you would then work out when it will actually be paid due to banks being shut etc. Have you asked to speak to a manager yet? If not, then ask to speak to one, because you are still “a customer” if the end of your sanction is in sight and they owe you their service including precise information about payment dates, especially if you are still signing, which I presume you are otherwise your sanction end would not be in sight. It is unique form of torment for them to expect you to be on time for signing and fulfil every part of your side of “the agreement” and yet they are unable to fulfil theirs.
    I’m sorry to not be able to give you better advice than this, but it’s all I can think of. Every time I read Geoff’s and others’ comments about the government I agree wholeheartedly with them; I can’t believe what this government is doing to their own people while condemning other openly oppressive regimes, and sending billions to the victims of those other regimes.

    Hey all you job centre bods, for a look into your non-existent future take at look at elsewhere on the gov.uk e.g. at how the DVLA issues driving licences – there is absolutely no human interaction in this process from beginning to end (save for the postman who pops the licence through your letter box); the application is made on-line (there is no envelope to open), the identity checks and verification ( DWP/Passport database checks are all automated), photo signature is retrieved from passport database, the licence is printed and posted automatically. Of course, we know that A LOT of staff at the DVLA have been made redundant… and you smarmy paper-pushing fookers at the DWP who think you are in a cushy job for life will be next for the chopping-block for very soon there will be no paper to push… it will all be AUTOMATED 🙂 lol

    My questions refer to security processes surrounding the Work &
    Pensions meeting held on 9th December 2013 at 16:30 in the Wilson
    room.

    According to multiple witnesses (members of the public, mainly
    physically or mentally disabled) who arrived to observe the above
    meeting, they were initially met by standard airport and court type
    security, metal detectors, belongings checked, they were frisked –
    all pretty much what I would expect.

    The public area was off camera (although some public members did
    appear in view of the camera to find their seats and I did witness
    one electric wheelchair user briefly on camera.

    However the witnesses stated something rather disturbing which
    wasn’t seen on camera which could explain their unusual silence
    throughout the proceedings. There were several policemen or
    security guards with machine guns, not pointed down, instead
    pointing TOWARDS the public area throughout this meeting.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Who from the DWP asked for these guards with machine guns to be
    present?

    2. Who from the DWP asked for these guards to keep their machine
    guns pointed toward the public area?

    3. Please provide the report which deemed it necessary to have
    guards with machine guns pointed toward the public during this
    meeting.

    My fourth question is only for if you’re unable to answer any one
    of the above questions.

    4. Please specify the Government department I should send this FoI
    request to if you don’t hold the above information on any question
    I ask above.

  72. @ bamboozled, I hate the place myself, but it’s best to “grasp the nettle” and at least attempt to get the matter sorted out, because by the time of the holiday it will be too late. It is hard, also, not to raise your voice when you are talking to them about such an emotive matter, but it’s worth trying to control volume and tone in order to be assertive without being seen as aggressive. All the best with your next meeting with them!

      When threatened by dwp workers why should you give them an easy ride, it is not aggressive to raise your voice, it is a natural intonation when being provoked, just like a dog will bark to warn off predators, which these jcp workers most certainly are.
      So don’t give a flying f**k what they perceive as aggression because it is a natural reaction which they are trying to suppress and could cause you more upset and illness to stifle it.

I am recommending that that is what bamboozled does because that is what I try to do since I have often been told by housing association staff etc to lower my tone and my voice when I am upset about something as I have a naturally loud voice. I try to do this in the jcp to some extent as well since I would rather give them, as you call it, “an easy ride” and still get a result than give them what they see as aggressive behaviour and be sanctioned, which is giving me a hard time and does not affect them at the end of the day when they go home. I will argue with them as is my right. Not shouting does not make me a wimp. Everyone knows how unreasonable the jcp are in what they term aggressive. Before I was unemployed I worked in a call centre and people thought that if they shouted and swore they would get better service, when what they got from me and others was hung up on, or as they term it in call centres, a released call. I would rather be sanctioned than actually work for jcp but if they told me there was a job going there I would apply for it if they gave me a direction to do so, because if I did not apply for it I would be sanctioned. If I went for an interview however I would make it clear to them that I would under no circumstances sanction anyone, and I would put that in writing and send it special delivery to them, and also e-mail that message to them. I would hope that that would mean that they would not offer me a job there, as it would destroy my mental health completely to work in such a place, even if I was not sacked for refusing to sanction anyone.
        I am not going to argue with you further about this.

          It’s a fine balance though, having been recently ‘reprimanded’ for “talking very quietly” *(I have a naturally quite quiet speaking voice). They mistook this for somehow being a deliberate act of aggression – when combined with trying to be assertive/querying what they were saying. I was probably unnaturally quiet on that occasion due to trying to (as you say) remain in control/not end up crying or getting up & walking away.

          They seeemed to be one step away from articulating that they’d like me to agree to a label of “passive aggressive” so they could send me off to receive some treatment at the hand of one of their own pre-programmed psychologists … more recently, they queried whether applying for ESA might be something to consider – not tone-of-voice-related …

          Anyone with less than fairly good levels of self-esteem would soon start to question their own validity after a while trying to fend off the ‘helpful interventions’ of these …. (non)-experts in being human(e). They leave me speechless.

  73. “WAITING FOR THE FIREWORKS”

    Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

    My questions refer to security processes surrounding the Work &
    Pensions meeting held on 9th December 2013 at 16:30 in the Wilson
    room.

    According to multiple witnesses (members of the public, mainly
    physically or mentally disabled) who arrived to observe the above
    meeting, they were initially met by standard airport and court type
    security, metal detectors, belongings checked, they were frisked –
    all pretty much what I would expect.

    The public area was off camera (although some public members did
    appear in view of the camera to find their seats and I did witness
    one electric wheelchair user briefly on camera.

    However the witnesses stated something rather disturbing which
    wasn’t seen on camera which could explain their unusual silence
    throughout the proceedings. There were several policemen or
    security guards with machine guns, not pointed down, instead
    pointing TOWARDS the public area throughout this meeting.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Who from the DWP asked for these guards with machine guns to be
    present?

    2. Who from the DWP asked for these guards to keep their machine
    guns pointed toward the public area?

    3. Please provide the report which deemed it necessary to have
    guards with machine guns pointed toward the public during this
    meeting.

    My fourth question is only for if you’re unable to answer any one
    of the above questions.

    4. Please specify the Government department I should send this FoI
    request to if you don’t hold the above information on any question
    I ask above.

  77. The question on everyones mind today is, when will Duncan Smith start his life custodial sentence?

    Surely the draft Modern Slavery Bill will encompass his heinous crimes of forced workfare, as these fit the category almost perfectly……………..

    You cannot have distinctions between forced slavery and workfare as they are one of the same.
    In fact, workfare, is an obvious choice as it does not need any police work to uncover it. It is there, blatant, and for all the world to see………

    There can be no difference from running an underground sweatshop or taking on staff and affording them a meagre subsistence, the motives are identical, to save money……………

    The courts of Human Rights should immediately challenge the UK government on the issues surrounding workfare, as this is, indeed, MODERN SLAVERY, albeit, in a different wrapper.

    Prosecutions should be brought against the employers of slaves and the scorn should continue with mass demonstrations outside their doors.

    ………..the only visible difference with slavery of old is the absence of shackles but this has been carefully replaced with a sanction that could, inevitably, end in death. Therefore the modern version is more severe.

  80. Today I’ve received a scam telephone call at around 3:00pm from this number – 02392 386688.

    After some intensive diggi9ng around on the internet, ii turns out this is a fraudulent phone number originating from Portsmouth and it is involving a credit card scam. I’m beginning to suspect whomever phoned me possibly obtained my home address from Universal Shitematch. If inded I can prove this to be fact, I will in no doubt start world war III at my jobcentre for illegally passing on my CV to an outside third-party that has gained un-challenged access to my UJM account.

    There is not one answer, but a combination of quirks of fate, or chapters in a lifetime, that lay a path for how a person lives their life………………….

    Why should a miner work in a dangerous environment and do hard toil for a small wage, whilst a pen pusher does nothing and receives a handsome salary?

    The equilibrium of who we are is defined by one thing only, money………..

    If you ain’t got it, your nobody, and if you have it, your’e somebody.

    But sadly, it doesn’t end there,because the “somebody” takes on the role as treating the poor as a “nobody” and in an effort to continue the “illusion”, strives to keep them there.

    ………..and that’s the problem in our country today.

    To continue the principal of having importance, the richer of the two sees fit to do two things, firstly to push the poorer into further debt, and secondly to block any attempt for the underdog to catch up.

    To enable these factors to happen, the rich need to belong to an elite.

    The elite is usually formed by distancing from the poor and mixing within circles that have the same mindset.

    Eton and the ilk being the breeding ground of individuals who consider themselves already superior, not by their knowledge or skills, but usually Daddies wallet………………..

    Who needs to do an apprenticeship for four years, when Daddies friend, who usually owes a big favour, has an opening in the city?

    We are not aware of any exercises undertaken by Government on adequacy of benefits.
