This week: take action to stop workfare and sanctions

Boycott-Workfare-Poster-ColourThe Week of Action Against Workfare and Sanctions begins tomorrow (Monday December 2nd) with a noise protest outside the annual welfare-to-work conference.

There will be online actions everyday, announced on the Boycott Workfare website (and probably here a bit later).  Tomorrow will see online action aimed at the ERSA conference where delegates will be tweeting using the hashtag #ERSA2013 – more details are to come on how to challenge the poverty profiteering conference online.

Please help spread the word and share, tweet and blog details of all events both on and offline!

Here’s the list of what’s taking place so far via Boycott Workfare:

Things are very wrong: each month 70,000 people face hunger and hardship due to benefit stoppages – ‘sanctions’. Millions of hours of work which should be paid are being replaced by workfare. But we’re taking action and having an impact.

This week, from 2-8 December,  join thousands of others across the UK to push back against sanctions and workfare – with action online and on your high street. Here’s the latest list of actions planned across the UK. Let us know if you’re planning something too and check back here Monday-Friday to take online action every day.

the whole wca system is crap and should be scrapped, it is wrong on so many levels…how can a wca be carried out before proper diagnosis is known, unfortunately many are..so often one does not have all of the medical evidence, it can often take a yr or more to get full diag…my advice is don’t delay get MR app in quick, and/or if condition has worsened reapply for esa benes…one should go onto support group payments 1st the whole system is a crank…often these crazy fcukers are telling one is fit for work, before one has even got a full and proper diagnosis, how can that be right….i was even not fully diagnosed at the time of my 1st appeal tribunal! the wca, is little more than tea leaf readings…

  4. Workfare Slave of Seetec

I wanted to attend the Noise Demo at the workfare conference, but I’m on Workfare and will be sanctioned 3 months worth of benefits if I was to attend instead of going to my workfare exploiters.😦

  5. something survived...

3rd December is a day of demonstrations at the Palace of Westminster, against the welfare benefits cuts and Atos, to mark International Day of Disabled People..

  6. I’ve taken the day off work for edinburgh , I hope it’s a good turn out 🙂 , numbers matter .

  7. If you are awake and not one of the sleepy ones, then please go on to the kateofgaia website and read the ONE STOP TRUTH DOC and also Pope Francis’ Apostolic letter written Motu Proprio (of one’s own impulse) which came into force September 1 2013 drew a line in the sand with regards to all things CORPORATE and removed ALL IMMUNITY from all crimes being committed by bankers, lawyers, judges, government/city officiials kings and queens, police, military, etc et al where they can no longer hide behind the veil (apocalypse) of CORPORATE FICTIONAL ILLUSION as it has been for hundreds of years.
Have a read, it will open up PANDORAS BOX
THE CORPORATE HOUSE OF CARDS IS COMING DOWN
    PROMISE!

  8. Hope the protest includes plenty of placards about MPs abusing the public purse- see articles in today’s Daily Mail about Andrew Lansley and George Osborne:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2516338/Minister-claimed-6-000-expenses-London-hotel-stays-despite-having-OWN-1million-flat-just-15-minutes-walk-Parliament.html

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2516362/Chancellor-George-Osborne-spent-10-2m-modernising-Whitehall-HQ.html

They’ve got a bloody cheek spouting forth about how people must ‘work for their benefits’ when Tory MPs are blatantly taking the pi$$ out of the public purse.

  9. Why does 38 degrees want your e mail address in order to sign their petitions, I stopped them from posting to my address because some of the petitions as far as I’m concerned were trivial rubbish. I think your name should be sufficient.

    • Yeah guy the gagging law tthat’s rubbish save the NHS thats rubbish ..another one is about benefits claimants rights again rubbish and stuff about atos and disabled again more rubbish ..just don’t bother with this hard left organisation which tories fear .and keep on moaning

there is also one about demanding boris takes an iq test, but i’ve checked, the weschler scale nor binet go down that low….

        • I think it was being ironic donkey….after all boris is a cucking funt..

          • something survived...

Boris DID take an IQ test, but was beaten by a table that had been squashed by a juggernaut and was on its way to the municipal tip.

I liked the one that demanded we should force IDS to live on £53 a week. Which he of course ignored.
Funny how the tory bastards respond if it’s a petition like the ‘150,000 Daily Mail Readers [are utter cunts and] want all immigrants thrown out/kept out’, ‘bring back hanging [especially for badgers, treehuggers, jobseekers, people who claim to be disabled or sick, single mothers and their bastard progeny, lesbians, lesbian seagulls, men who like cake or icecream, women motorbikers (if we haven’t hanged them already if they were a lesbian or a single mum), vegans, scrounging parents who look after their disabled kids instead of getting a Job, Muslims, Asians, race traitors who sleep with an opposite sex person but of the wrong colour, people who play Scrabble, Guardian readers, metrosexuals, people who don’t like Jeremy Clarkson]’
Or petitions like ‘Daily Mail readers [who are experts on disability of course] know it’s a scientific fact there is no such thing as sick or disabled and all such claimants are lying thieving scrounging fraudsters who should be thrown in jail to break rocks till they die.’
You know, moderate compassionate-conservative stuff all right-thinking people could get behind.

from the same bacterial accident that produced ‘Enoch was right’, ‘We love Nick Griffin’ and ‘headscarves are the instruments of satan’.

I think however there is an error in one of the above Change.org petitions (the real ones). It’s the IDS one. I think it’s a small but significant typo. It’s the incorrect placement of a decimal point. Below is the amendment necessary:

Make IDS live on £5.30 a week.

      • PETITIONS ARE NOT THE ANSWER THEY GET THROWN IN THE BIN!!!

    • Shock horror guy 38 degrees asked me to send petition to my MP and do you know what she actually replies to me every time and thanks me for drawing her attention to the matter…

      • Chewie I visited my mp over sanctions and was screamed at for my trouble, I have written to him also since about sanctions and got no reply.
Your tell me why only a small percentage of the unemployed have not signed this petition? I was just trying to offer a reason as to why they are not signing.

  10. Does anyone know what is going on with the ITV channel on tv, some of their programmes have been taken off air?

    • Recently they had a retune in the Scottish borders area- I don’t know about elsewhere, though. Which programmes do you mean?

    • overburdenddonkey

          • But I doan tno want you at tawknig ablout

            • Oh btw this is what happens when companies with their own interests conspire to fuck up things for people.

1 my lock on my door ceases to function due to housing association spending little money on things like
              Security heating power..etc
              2 repair hotline number posted
3 unable to phone repair hotline because BT has barred the use of that number
4 contacted staff over serious matter of being locked out of my room
5 staff unable to deal with matter due to staff cuts owing to private firm that employs them saving money
The joke is that the nature of these premises is all about care…

Anyone wanting to discuss the value of the free market can fuck off…

            • something survived...

I’d be tempted to go round to the home/office of their boss/CEO and glue up their locks. Or brick them in/out. You know, as in ‘if you can’t get in they should not be able to get in’. they sound like wankers. getting in/out is obviously a tenant’s right.

      • ITV put on their screens this programme cannot be shown for legal reasons, but other programmes keep freezing all of the time too, forcing me to reset which only sometimes works.

    • TV catchup has been in court with ITV claiming copyright ..however TVC won case as they claim they are acting like cable tv company..hence itv channels and c4 missing from tvc

      • I phoned itv and asked why if it was only the northern region that w as affected and was told it was and that there was faults with the technology – so much for progress.
When I enquired as to it being for legal reasons as they stated she replied that was the only sign they could put up on the spur of the moment. Who is running these broadcasting companies?

Dear Everyone on this void blog I refer you to above link and ask what the harry Ben fuck is going on with that ?
Is this some kind of disinfo setup ?
It doesn’t seem to fit most peoples experience at all….
    Answers on a postcard please…

    • There is the odd advisor working for them who isn’t an arse. Further down that discussion though there are various posts from people whose experience of the Jobsworth Centre fits in more with the typical arseholeishness.

      • Well at least it has balance its just that phrases suggesting they are all saints but we never get to hear about it…because we are a load of whingers
Yes I read that on another site ..
So we are imagining all this hate bestowed upon us it seems. .actually I wonder if there is s forum for DWP jcp staff where they go on about dole scum and struggling to deal with the great unwashed ..wasn’t there something about tramps and layabouts not so long ago ?

        • something survived...

Irony is if you go in washed and in new clean clothes they can sanction you for ‘obviously having a secret paid job or being a drug dealer’.

  14. Landless Peasant

My Benefits aren’t even sanctioned (yet) but I have no money, very little food, and one week to go to next JSA. Fuck.😦

    • I know- this is what makes me want to scream when I hear smug git tory tossers saying people should ‘work for their benefits,’ when JSA ain’t even enough to live off. Alright for greedy Andrew Lansley though, claiming £6000 to stay in hotels because he can’t be arsed to use his flat. Andrew Lansley, Greedy Andrew Lansley, TOSSER!!!

My dole came in at the end of last week. I’d bought no food in ages. It’s halfway through Monday, and guess what I’m already broke again. I gave everything that wasn’t immediate bills or other costs to pay my rent, including my HB. I’m still £70 short of my rent! Which will then take a chunk actually half, of this week’s fortnightly dole payment. In rent arrears for 3rd month in a row.

  15. Sorry about your situation landless thats their sense of timing for you…will this post ? Its decidedly hit and miss now. This stinks.

He contributed to doc about malingering and disability deception I downloaded it recently and thought that name was familiar.

  18. I uploaded this comedy clip recently as it seemed quite relevant to what’s going on recently ..
.the ” im alright jack Party ”
Its funny how old comedy clips can seem relevant much later

    • It is quite clear that the non-socialist party that was carrying the I’m alright jack flag had got it dead right. They are the ones that say up yours I’m alright. Perhaps you belong to the don’t knows chewie?

  19. Thanks for this useful information. It’s great that people are organising protests across the country against this exploitation.

  20. I will second that comment beastrabban.

  21. It’s about time some of the faceless bastards that work behind the scenes of the DWP, and broke ranks to show they have some sympathy for the people they are sending to their graves……..

Nothing is so easy as pretending you don’t know what’s happening.

Cowardice, while others are subjected to pure evil, is akin to witnessing a murder and failing to come forward with evidence to nail the perpetrator……….

Most of the DWP staff are part of a union, Unions were structured to help others from the wrath of unpleasant employers by combining their unified strengths and speaking as one……………

The word YELLOW comes to mind, cowering behind their desks as the letters of social hate spew forth into the arms of the most vulnerable……

The question of MAN or MOUSE seems totally appropriate.

“WILL YOU SIT BACK AND WATCH YOUR MASTERS DESTROY THE LIVES OF INNOCENT VICTIMS, KNOWING YOU ARE PART OF THE MECHANISM THAT ENABLES IT?”

or will you cower in fear of what might be said by a bullying boss?

“WAS TAKING LIVES PART OF THE REMIT OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT?”

FOR CHRIST’S SAKE, START TO REALISE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

IT’S NO GOOD GIVING EVIDENCE AT AN INQUEST, IF YOU WERE IN A POSITION TO STOP IT BEFORE IT HAPPENED.

“Let your consciences be your guiding light”………………..

      • SIR MANSEL AYLWARD CB

He played a key role in development and evaluation of the UK’s medical assessment for incapacity (the All Work Test), and was heavily involved in developing the Personal Capability Assessment (PCA). He led the Corporate Medical Group on the UK Government’s Welfare Reform initiatives and made a major contribution in establishing the new postgraduate diploma for doctors in Disability Assessment Medicine. He was closely involved in developing the UK’s successful “Pathways to Work” initiatives and a framework for Vocational Rehabilitation.

The Guardian, Wednesday 12 September 2012 21.00 BST

This week the sixth International Forum on Disability Management,
IFDM 2012, takes place at Imperial College London. It is sponsored
by some of the world’s largest medical insurance companies, Unum
among them, and speakers include DWP chief medical adviser Dr Bill
Gunyeon and Professor Sir Mansel Aylward, formerly DWP chief
medical adviser and director of the Centre for Psychosocial and
Disability Research at Cardiff University, which was sponsored by
Unum from its inception in 2003 until 2009.

Unum’s website states that during this sponsorship period “a series
of papers was published, identifying the range of factors that
determine why some people become long-term absentees”. The Cardiff
papers advocated a “biopsychosocial model” of disability which Unum
says “informed its approach to medical underwriting”. It is the
same approach upon which the current Atos work capability
assessment (WCA) is based. Concomitantly, the company were advising
the UK government on welfare reform.

…………SEEMS STRANGE AN INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISING OUR GOVERNMENT ON WELFARE REFORMS

      • UNUM, AN AMERICAN PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY THAT WAS FINED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR RUNNING A “DISABILITY DENIAL” SCAM IN THE STATES, COLLUDING WITH OUR GOVERNMENT……
Extracts from the Report of the Physical Function and Mental Health Technical Working Groups.
        Commissioned by DWP sept 2006.

There is still work to be done,to test the proposed new assignment in a live environment. This will be done by asking ATOS MEDICAL SERVICES DOCTORS to complete a PCA on incapacity benefit claimants.

        Among the experts cited at being present at the meeting;

        Sue Godby-UNUM PROVIDENT
        Dr Angela Graham-ATOS ORIGIN
        Dr Paul Stidolph-DWP
Ann Spaight-Chair of DISABILITY ALLOWANCE ADVISORY BOARD
        Dr Peter Dewis-UNUM PROVIDENT

  24. all had their greedy little fingers in it……..

    Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope

A previous Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Work and Pensions, Lord Kirkwood of Kirkhope, is listed in the House of Lords Register of Interests (Session 2006-2007) as the Chairman of the Unum Customer Advisory Panel for which he received payment from Unum and additional payments for other work for Unum.

    Link to this

  25. ……….and to cap it all,

IN A FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST TO THE DWP, THEY TOLD ME THAT UNUM INSURANCE HAD NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST, DESPITE BEING BALLS DEEP IN THE WHOLE CORRUPT BUSINESS……….

  26. MAY 2011

Unum has been lobbying, sitting on expert groups and hosting meetings at party conferences of all colours ever since. And lo and behold, in May this year, Unum’s then medical officer Prof Michael O’Donnell jumped ship to become chief medical officer at Atos. He barely had time to catch his breath before giving evidence to the Commons committee looking at the welfare reform bill.

But Unum is once again denying any conflict of interest “since our current work with the DWP and our marketing campaign are different.” It said its current consultation work is about helping people return to work and its advertising campaign was educational and does not support tightening benefit changes.

Meanwhile disability activists who have fallen foul and been forced to appeal cuts in DWP benefits based on flawed Atos assessments, and campaigning groups like Black Triangle, think the whole thing stinks and are urging MPs to investigate.

    • overburdenddonkey

      geoff
the state is now working in concert, like a group of loss of capitalist market led, insurance co loss adjusters, trying to wriggle out of any claims, i wonder where they got the idea from…..

      • Some examples of Unum’s Denial Tactics include:

Changing policies after claims are filed (and without the authorization or knowledge of policy holders)
Improperly investigating the claim and obtaining opinions from unqualified people/supposed experts
Misreading medical records, often by their independent medical examiners
Demanding repeated requests for independent medical examinations or denying a claim without any medical examination
Refusing to acknowledge their disability, especially mental disorders, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome
Arguing that the claim is a pre-existing condition.
Denying a claim with the intent to wear the claimant down to a lower settlement
Partially paying a claim for total disability
Use of detectives, friends, co-workers and neighbors in an attempt to discredit the disability

  27. I wonder if UNUM insurance will be lending the DWP several loss adjustors to give advice about the millions that are set to be paid to the families that have lost loved ones due to “DISABILITY DENIAL?”

  28. DOES THIS RING ANY BELLS?

UNUM Provident developed a special list of “independent” medical examination physicians whom it believed would be willing to write reports denying the existence of disability. As part of this plan, Provident made agreements with outside vendors to provide referrals to IME physicians that they believed would be willing to write medical reports supporting the denial of benefits.
