Fuel Poverty Protest Nov 26th London

fuel-poverty-picvia Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC)

Join Fuel Poverty Action, UK Uncut, the Greater London Pensioners’ Association and Disabled People Against Cuts for an outrageous, creative and inclusive protest against fuel poverty deaths on November 26th at 11.30am in Central London. Meeting point – well it’s a secret, for now.

On November 26th, the number of people who died last winter from cold homes will be announced. But we won’t stand for any more unnecessary deaths caused by price-hiking, polluting, profiteering, tax avoiding energy companies. So …join us as we take to the streets in central London to target one of the main energy robbers driving fuel poverty.

As the Big Six energy companies hike up prices we are told the only answer is to put on a jumper, leaving millions of us to choose between heating and eating. While the energy companies spread the lie that ‘green taxes’ are to blame, we know that the real problem is the privatisation of our energy for profit and the skyrocketing cost of dirty fossil fuels.

So bring your kids, neighbours, grandparents, your warmest jumper and your latest energy bill — and come join the fightback for the alternatives: warm, insulated homes and clean, affordable energy. It’s time to bring down the Big Six and put power back in people’s hands.

Meet outside Royal Exchange by Bank Station for short march to destination target.

See you on the streets.

  1. Guy Fawks was much maligned! Bring on the Nuremberg type trials for IDS and all his marionettes!

  2. And don’t forget your cold weather payments as well..

  3. Absolutely disgraceful state of affairs. There should be no profit in services, gas, water, electricity. Little wonder the likes of electricitynorthwest and other infrastructure companies set up to maintain the networks plead poverty. Cables over 60 years old supply many homes with earth being provided to many via old gas mains which isn’t safe, legal or reliable. All the chancers in the cartel operating need jailing immediately to prevent them spreading their greedy sleazy nonsense elsewhere. Cameron said he would make them offer lowest tarrifs???. Hello..what about a national price of 4 pence a kilowatt hour no service charges and same prices to.poor sods on pre pay meters?. Let’s hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth…corporate manslaughter charges may focus culpability for causing death by hyperthermia.

  4. Smash the System

I’m going to try to make this one. But I’m due to start MWA with Seetec sometime before Christmas! Remember, warm clothes umbrellas and waterproofs are the order of the day if you are going.🙂

the cold saps one’s energy, and requires one to eat more…my sitting rm is 12c today..i wear many layers of clothes, woolly hat, and layers of thermals, as i suffer more blood supply problems than dracula, including mild to severe reynaulds.
i always arrive early for appointments to get warm, and to admire the summer ware attired by the staff of official buildings, and to gasp at the frivolity of an open window, at this time of year….
it’s not all bad at least least it is comforting to know that the administrators of the system are warm and cozy, that the energy playing field is level and fair, and that all of this is fairly considered at our joyful smiley meetings….
still i can always see a debt management counsellor, to see which part of my vast £72/wk income, i can drastically economise on, perhaps i can even stretch it to buy an extra lump of coal. then maybe i should not bother, save the bus fares, being exposed in the outside cold, hungry, save the energy of getting there and buy extra fuel with that money. oh wait, i’m still broke… clause V, re-nationalise, all key public service industries, put them back into the hands, of we the people and we’d also get many jobs back, in infrastructure, maintenance and up keep, they should profit we the people, not the holders of portfolios…

    • The vast £71.70,I know what you mean,I have been staying in my van and sofa surfing for almost 3 years and using a C/O address, not ideal at 50yo but I get by(yes i have applied for every type of help) The JCP clerk has insisted that I write down where I stay daily, who I stay with and if they are claiming benefits, paying Council Tax..Ect.Ect. I asked what for? We need to know! Ok but why? You need a permanent Address..I agree, can you help? No,you should save your JSA and rent private and then claim HB….Last time I was told that JSA was for “The clue is in the word Job and Seeking” by you when I asked about travel to interviews, now I should save it for a deposit? Can I have that in writing? and what do I live on?..Meeting over!

      • John, they want to know where you’re staying so that if they are claiming housing or c.tax benefits they can inform the council to make deductions for a non-dependent (you) living with them. It’s a fair old deduction as well. Don’t tell them….

        john
they do not live in the real world, many not even in this solar system. all done to blame the victim and abdicate their causal responsibility role in administering draconian laws, set to use the levers of hardship against those most in need, as if, suddenly one will experience a miraculous breakthrough overnight, develop wondrous skills, insights, abilities, wake up and see things their way, which is impossible..the only true insight is that they abuse one, that one is a normal human being, who is stuck where they are through no fault of their own, and is in need of genuine help, but under this abusive system is very unlikely to get any, except to be told they are being “helped”…a “welfare”, state that makes people even sicker..

    • When spending is needed on infrastructure the privatized utilities go cap in hand to the state and tax payers,if failing to get a response they push up prices unrealistically so that there is a call for it to be renationalized after they have made a killing in profits. If then renationalized there will be no profits just spending on updating infrastructure and top salaries for those from the private sector until it is ready for re-privatization again.

  6. ……….and place your chestnuts on the embers of what Westminster used to be before the revolution took hold……….

  7. It’s really cold in here, but slightly warmer than being outside.
I constantly hear sobbing and sometimes a tap on the top.

Never did i think that my disability would afford me a place like this, but my little urn is where the collaboration between ATOS and the DWP decided i should be…………………………………..

  8. How can we join this protest if we don’t know where it is??

  10. I sincerely believe that the government does nothing to cap energy prices because it recieves kickback from the big six.

  11. Thank you both.

  12. Thanks for posting this. People do need to organise to stop the cynical profiteering of the energy companies.

It’s time to make a stand; not just against the big six, but against this cruel and greedy government also.

I wish I could attend, but I will share and hope others do too.

  17. It’s about time some of the faceless bastards that work behind the scenes of the DWP, and broke ranks to show they have some sympathy for the people they are sending to their graves……..

Nothing is so easy as pretending you don’t know what’s happening.

Cowardice, while others are subjected to pure evil, is akin to witnessing a murder and failing to come forward with evidence to nail the perpetrator……….

Most of the DWP staff are part of a union, Unions were structured to help others from the wrath of unpleasant employers by combining their unified strengths and speaking as one……………

The word YELLOW comes to mind, cowering behind their desks as the letters of social hate spew forth into the arms of the most vulnerable……

The question of MAN or MOUSE seems totally appropriate.

“WILL YOU SIT BACK AND WATCH YOUR MASTERS DESTROY THE LIVES OF INNOCENT VICTIMS, KNOWING YOU ARE PART OF THE MECHANISM THAT ENABLES IT?”

or will you cower in fear of what might be said by a bullying boss?

“WAS TAKING LIVES PART OF THE REMIT OF YOUR EMPLOYMENT?”

FOR CHRIST’S SAKE, START TO REALISE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

IT’S NO GOOD GIVING EVIDENCE AT AN INQUEST, IF YOU WERE IN A POSITION TO STOP IT BEFORE IT HAPPENED.

“Let your consciences be your guiding light”………………..

  18. CHRISTMAS IS COMING,
    THE TREASURY’S GETTING FAT,
    AND SO IS DUNCAN SMITH,
    THE EVIL FUCKING TWAT…….

    TRY BURYING THE EVIDENCE,
    ESTHER USUALLY DOES,
    WHILST KILLING THE DISABLED,
    FOR A TORY SEASONAL BUZZ……..

    START LOOKING RIGHT BEHIND YOU,
    WITH JUSTICE ON YOUR TAIL,
    AND G4S YOUR WARDENS,
    IN A SHABBY, CRUMBLING JAIL…..

    MURDER IS A CRIME,
    THAT CAN’T BE OVERLOOKED,
SO TRY TO SEE IT IAIN,
    YOU’RE WELL AND TRULY FUCKED….

  19. Landless Peasant

Over 30,000 people in the UK died due to being cold last Winter. Ten times the amount killed in the 9/11 attacks. Shocking and disgraceful. The power companies MUST be re-Nationalized!

    • We’d have to get rid of Dave’s Nastzi Party first, (a free cyanide pill for Dunkin Doughnuts) – and then the Cloaked New Nastzi’s with our Ed, so basically a completely new government system with a decent constitution. Isn’t going to be easy with the current levels of majority ignorance and indoctrination. Plus the revolution might clash with East Benders, or Coronation Street Crap and fizzle out?

      • The problem isn’t the Tories or their friends the LibDems or Labour, it’s the notion of government itself that is at the root of the problem. Immediately a government is in a position of power it becomes at odds with the governed.

Do away with government entirely, think outside the box!
