The 2013 London Anarchist Bookfair will be held on Saturday 19th October and feature two workshops on fighting welfare reforms.
The long running event which hosts workshops, films, political stalls and lots of people selling books attracts hundreds of people every year and is being held at the Queen Mary’s University on the Mile End Road. The event has a creche for both younger and older children and all meetings and workshops are accessible – for full access details visit their website.
Boycott Workfare will have a stall at the bookfair and will be holding a workshop from 2pm in Room 326. Earlier at 1pm activists from Brent Housing Action and the Haringey Solidarity Group will be discussing all aspects of welfare reform in Room G.07.

‘New welfare support and action groups starting up’
I’ve just watched Qestion time on the parliamentary channel (BBC1 thu)
Yvette Cooper still spouting that they will provide jobs and an incomes guarantee provided by taxing bankers bonus’s, yet she does not state what the type of jobs are, or how much the incomes guarantee will be for the young that choose earning over learning, there will be sanctions according to her for any that fail at either earning or learning, what a cow.
Most of these welfare support groups are only spouting what the government consider to be your rights and will stand by their sanctioning activities, I have found them to be totally ineffectual in the past and could be considered another sector of the poverty pimps brigade.
Medhi Khan of the Huffington post was the only one on the panel that spoke up for the left and the poorest in society – not the 3 main parties or their representatives and certainly not Quinten Letts, the only thing I agreed with him on was the fact that political correctness has gone mad.

i can personally vouch for claimant run, grassroots, welfare rights groups, and are the only ones i’ll seek help from…they do their very best under difficult circumstances, the relief of being heard is vital…
yeah, they’re good people in those groups, they should be supported and we need a lot more of them
I helped start up a community association group with other unemployed people, we got grants to run things but did not take a wage it was all voluntary, then as things progressed some demanded salaries which I guess was inevitable because they were sick of years on the dole, then they got greedier and wanted bigger salaries, then they became labour councillors and were running the organizations as work programmes forcing the unemployed to work for nothing. I was not party to this as resigned due to the corruption deciding to campaign against them myself.
It was the self same councillors that were responsible for having me locked up along with our mp. Nobody was allowed to rock their brainwashed boat of sanctions, so much for the unemployed helping the unemployed, none had qualifications, none knew anything about politics or where their policies were leading but they followed them blindly anyway.
ps. by the way one has resigned as councillor for not paying staff the minimum wage and the community association has gone into liquidation, another has started European funded community businesses most of which have failed and he is constantly criticized in the press for his exploitation, they are all in it for what they can get.

i agree this can and does happen, and i know finding and choosing genuine people to help, with ones welfare rights is difficult, and often comes with bitter experience of let downs, i too have suffered these, being dropped right in the mire let downs, which is why i favour grassroot groups, even if they don’t get it right all the time, the genuine sharing of problems, as opposed to lip service is vital. you’ll also know people such as yourself, that will always seek truth no matter what, those who do listen, our intuition is vital, people who speak out and have their say and won’t blindly accept another’s pov, if it does not feel to make sense. people have often pointed things out that i did not at 1st see clearly, but i had a vague notion that they were right, and after looking at a matter, what they said made perfect sense, for the people by the people..as you know, there are some true twats out there, there are some really genuine people out there as well. once bitten twice shy..there are those that collude with the state, even when it is clearly wrong, for/in their own self interests, our common sense, when available tells us who they are.

Yesterday i received a letter from one of the DWP’s ambassadors of death, JOHN ROTHWELL of Blackpool.
He informed me, in no uncertain terms, that my Disability Living Allowance has terminated…………..
Surely this is the act of celebration after all?
I was robbed of my “lifetime award of disability” over a year ago and are still awaiting my appeal, thanks to an exterminator working for ATOS, EMMA BRODRICK.
The reason they terminated my DLA was because i refused to fill in a 35 page questionnaire they sent to me that asks about my disability. it was a DLA80.
It states that i have to fill it in so they know that i am receiving the right amount of benefit…………..
As you all know, this is just a load of bollocks that seeks to reduce my benefits further.
To put it in a nutshell, Esther Mcvey told parliament that existing holders of DLA benefit would not face PIP tests until 2015. The new tests are engineered to strip the mobility from as many as possible by using descriptors that hardly anybody will achieve.
Not content with leaving existing DLA claimants till 2015, they decided on a plan to relieve you of your benefits even faster by claiming your circumstances have changed after receiving the answers you wrote on your questionnaire. Indeed, this is entrapment or trying to gain pecuniary advantage by deception………….
A well known underhand trick to push you to another ATOS examination and further reduce your pittance.
Stangely, when i examined the law regarding the matter of informing the DWP of a change of circumstance, i found this;
“The effect is that claimants are required to report any change of circumstance which the secretary of state (ie the DWP), has told them to.
However, there is no specific provision about where or how the change must be reported”.

Therefore by not filling in the questionnaire, and informing them that my circumstances have not changed, i have fulfilled my obligation.

THIS NOTIFICATION ACCEPTANCE IS ALL THEY REQUIRE TO STOP YOUR EXISTING BENEFITS.
IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU DO NOT REPLY TO THE ESA QUESTIONNAIRE, THEY HAVE NO POWER TO FORCE YOU TO ATTEND AN ESA.
THE PROCESS IS HIDDEN WITHIN THE SMALL PRINT
AMENDMENTS OF THE EMPLOYMENT AND SUPPORT ALLOWANCE ( TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS, HOUSING BENEFIT AND COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT) (EXISTING AWARDS) (NO2) REGULATIONS 2010.
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY;

All the letter actually says which bears on the requirements that must be met in order to qualify for conversion is that “To decide if you are entitled to Employment and Support Allowance we need to assess and understand how your illness and disability affects the amount and type of work you could do”. In particular, it is of note that this says nothing at all about the degree to which a persons illness or disability must limit the amount or type of work they could do. As such it does not bear at all on what the requirements for conversion actually are.
12. It is plain that the purpose of Reg 4(2)(c) is to ensure that a claimant knows about the nature of the test they are to be assessed with so that they can prepare for the examination. A further purpose is clearly to put in legislation a requirement that a claimant has been given a clear and accurate explanation of the process into which they are entering (the anxiety caused to long term ill claimants by the process having been widely anticipated.
13. As the notice does not do this, it is submitted that the claimant is not a “notified person”. Therefore, the SSWP had no power to make a conversion decision in this case and the tribunal is invited to find that the purported decision is of no effect.

Government tells employers they can overrule GP fit notes

The Government has indicated that employers may, in principle, be able to overrule a GP’s advice in a fit note as to whether or not a person is potentially fit to return to work.
The little-noticed change was incorporated into new guidance on the fit note published by the Government in March and could allow an employer to give precedence to the views of an occupational health practitioner over those of a GP.
In the guidance for employers and line managers, under the headline “Is the fit note binding on me?”, the Government has made it clear that the answer is “no”.
The guidance states: “The assessment about whether your employee is not fit for work or may be fit for work (and any other advice in the fit note) is classed as advice, and it is for employers to determine whether or not to accept it.

If they teach people that work can be rewarding they would be liars, because when it comes to working class incomes on the paye system there are no rewards, not even enough to cover their cost of living. It’s only middle and upper class incomes that rewards pen pushers for NOT working.
pre “skills for work”, they word it like that so the “student”(victim) has to do all of the work, and work out what this actually means, ie give their terms meaning….they browbeat one into actually believing, one must be learning about something, but one can’t work out what one is learning, so one becomes dependant, on them for explanation, now do as you’re told!….coz, one already has skills ready for work…so what they do is patronise one for several weeks…it is bullshit to baffles brains…don’t need no pre skills for work, we already have them.
what is really needed is real waged employment, to get real work skills, not pretend work, simulated work, with simulated pay, and simulated human rights,..all we need now is a few million jobs, not no wage slavery, wage slavery is evil enough…

Police warn struggling families not to turn to crime after spate of shoplifting

POLICE have urged struggling families to seek help rather than turning to crime in an attempt to beat the recession.
In September, Cleveland Police were called to 75 incidents of shoplifting where food and other groceries had been stolen or attempts had been made to steal items.
Among some of the goods taken were loaves of bread, meat, cheese, eggs and biscuits and other groceries including coffee, fabric conditioner and washing tablets.
Police believe there are people who are ashamedly forced into shoplifting to feed themselves and their families.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Dickson said: “My message is directed to those who believe they have no choice but to steal food to survive; there is help and support and turning to crime is not the answer to the problem.
“A criminal record will last a lot longer than a phone call to a support agency.
“Don’t be ashamed to ask for help.”
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland Barry Coppinger said: “As Teessiders we need to pull together to help those living in our area who are in need by raising awareness of local support mechanisms.

A COLLEGE is breaking records after seeing a rise in the number of apprentices it has enrolled.
Hartlepool College of Further Education has enrolled its 850th apprentice for the academic year which started last month.
The college is expecting to cross the 900 mark in the next few months as a number of full time learners are currently converting to employment.
It comes after Hartlepool Borough Council launched a new campaign which aims to tackle the high rate of youth unemployment in the town and improve job prospects for young people.
The mail also launched the Work in Progress campaign to highlight the plight of the town’s jobless.
The Hartlepool Youth Investment Project (HYIP) aims to get 150 16 to 24-year-olds into employment, and 500 16-18-year-olds to have access to an internship with a local company.
The college works in partnership with over 500 employers across the North-East who are convinced that engaging apprentices is the way forward to develop their business.
Fred Felton, apprenticeship manager at Caterpillar Peterlee, said: “We have worked with the college for a number of years now and the quality of their fabrication and welding apprenticeships, along with other engineering disciplines, has delivered for us and we keep going back for more.
“Our partnership works very well and we look forward to continued investment in apprenticeships with the college well into the future.”
Town firm Gus Robinson Developments has taken on apprentices for a number of years.
Dan Robinson, chairman of Gus Robinson Developments said: “The company is determined to support local students to develop leading edge skills that will allow them to flourish in a global economy.
“We are passionate about people being able to express themselves and compete at every level. This is why we have supported the college for over 40 years by engaging very capable apprentices across a variety of fields including plumbing and electrical engineering.”
Steve Wallis, assistant principal at the college, said: “We really have to thank our employer partners for their continued support in so many areas including engineering, manufacturing, health and the service sectors.
“We have a long history of supporting apprentices in Hartlepool and in the last five years we have widened this to the entire North-East region making the college one of the largest regional providers of apprenticeships.
“We have further plans for expansion particularly in the science, engineering and construction disciplines where we have introduced high quality provision in laboratory technicians and heritage craft skills in the last few months.”

The Hartlepool Youth Investment Project (HYIP) aims to get 150 16 to 24-year-olds into employment, and 500 16-18-year-olds to have access to an internship with a local company.
The college works in partnership with over 500 employers across the North-East who are convinced that engaging apprentices is the way forward to develop their business.
Fred Felton, apprenticeship manager at Caterpillar Peterlee, said: “We have worked with the college for a number of years now and the quality of their fabrication and welding apprenticeships, along with other engineering disciplines, has delivered for us and we keep going back for more.
“Our partnership works very well and we look forward to continued investment in apprenticeships with the college well into the future.”
Town firm Gus Robinson Developments has taken on apprentices for a number of years.
Dan Robinson, chairman of Gus Robinson Developments said: “The company is determined to support local students to develop leading edge skills that will allow them to flourish in a global economy.
“We are passionate about people being able to express themselves and compete at every level. This is why we have supported the college for over 40 years by engaging very capable apprentices across a variety of fields including plumbing and electrical engineering.”
Steve Wallis, assistant principal at the college, said: “We really have to thank our employer partners for their continued support in so many areas including engineering, manufacturing, health and the service sectors.
“We have a long history of supporting apprentices in Hartlepool and in the last five years we have widened this to the entire North-East region making the college one of the largest regional providers of apprenticeships.
“We have further plans for expansion particularly in the science, engineering and construction disciplines where we have introduced high quality provision in laboratory technicians and heritage craft skills in the last few months.”

MORE than 100 jobs are set to be axed at Caterpillar, in Peterlee, as bosses look to cope with fluctuating market conditions.
The truck manufacturer, in Mill Hill, is looking at making around 70 production staff and 45 office workers redundant from its 740-strong workforce
It comes after the firm released 70 agency workers on Friday, September 27.
Easington MP Grahame Morris said this wave of redundancies is “disappointing” and he hopes it will place Caterpillar in a stronger long-term position.
Bosses are asking for voluntary redundancies.
Mr Morris said: “The continuing success of Caterpillar is important to our manufacturing base in East Durham.
“Personally I don’t differentiate between agency and core staff being made redundant, all job losses are a blow to families affected, especially in the run-up to Christmas.”
A Caterpillar spokeswoman said: “We value our employees’ contributions, and these actions are not a reflection of them, but rather of the business climate.
“As a consequence of the market conditions, our facility is operating at less than its installed capacity and we expect demand will remain relatively flat year on year. It is our intent to reduce the structure to reflect the industry demand and position the facility for long-term competitiveness.”
A 45-day consultation period began on September 22 and will end in November.

You will find that most charitable donations go to pay ceo’s top salaries or to bribe corrupt foreign despots.
What I meant was the government schemes that they send people on post work programme are obviously meant to simulate work or a work routine. If they don’t give people any extra benefits(pun intended)they are sending out the message that there is no incentive for making an effort.

If like the caterpillar factory near us they are making workers of retirement age redundant and taking on apprentices, the redundant retired will not show up in unemployment figures and it will look like new jobs have been created.
