The planned closure of the Independent Living Fund, the money which provides vital care for disabled people with the highest support needs, will see disabled people forced back into care homes campaigners have warned.

From DPAC: “There are 20,000 existing users of ILF in the UK. The Coalition Government wants to jeopardise their support too by forcing them to rely on local authorities from 2015 by closing the ILF permanently. Local authorities already face severe cuts and cannot provide adequate support. Some local authorities are already saying that residential care homes will be their only option: we expect others to follow.”
This change will devastate lives, sending society back to the days when disabled people were shut out of sight at the mercy of charities or even worse private care homes. That it is even being considered tells us everything we need to know about this toff Government’s attitude to disabled people.

The ILF being abolished, along with cuts to local authority services, as well as all the worries about DLA/PIP, are causing immense distress.
Many disabled people are finding that their care packages are being cut but cost more; they are likely to lose out when the “bedroom tax” comes in.
At the same time, JSA claimants aged betwen 18 and 25 will, unless they can prove they have worked in full-time paid employment for 6 months minimum between school and the claim, will be mandated to the Work Programme from day one of the claim.
The pilot involves 6,000 young people in London (oddly, in areas where riots took place last year) and the work they will be required to do is in care homes and for charities.
This will be likely to lead to a disgruntled untrained workforce who will not be interested in the quality of care they give.
Many local authorities outside London (Worcester, Gloucester) are already block-buying care beds to accommodate those who will not cope in the community when the changes come in.
So – remove the ability of disabled people to care for themselves at home, have beds available for them in private care homes, and staff the homes with free labour.
A disabled person claiming Support Group ESA, top rates of both DLA components, Housing and Council Tax benefit, and the maximum ILF grant, costs the taxpayer about £25,000 PA.
A person in a residential care home with the same needs costs in excess of £120,000 PA. They will not get JSA, as they are not capable of or available for work; they will not get ESA because they will be considered an in-patient; and they are unlikely to qualify for PIP because they are totally dependent so won’t need payments for independence.
This is not – and has never been – about saving money. It’s about reversing decades of progress, it’s about finding a way to get disabled people out of the public eye, it’s about removing “useless eaters” from the rest of this dystopian society.
The DWP and Freud call people like me “stock”.

Where they will be looked after and supervised by “work experience” workers who will be furious and resentful because they are being forced to work for no pay and will be boiling with rage and frustration because they know that all they all they have to look forward to for the rest of their lives, is working without pay until they die.
So inevitably many will take out their anger and frustration on the disabled people in their care. Instances of torture and abuse of the disabled in these institutions will skyrocket, but the politicians and the ruling elite couldn’t give a fuck about any of that. It wont be their loved ones; their mothers, their fathers, their children who are being abused, so they couldn’t care less.
They consider the sick and disabled to be completely expendable worthless vermin and an expensive nuisance. These greedy fascist psychopaths would love to put the undesirables; the sick and disabled and unemployed to sleep and wouldn’t hesitate to do it if they thought they could get away with it.
R33 I agree! Not only that, but people who don’t hate their charges, but have disabilities themselves, will be forced to do this work. So things could go wrong and they could cause an accident to/involving the people they are meant to be looking after. So could an ablebodied slave worker, because most people don’t have the skills PAID staff are asked to have.
A friend of mine her ex husband worked in a care home this was several years after they divorced,.. it was found that he was sexual abusing the clients. Now he was record checked but he hadnt got a record.
Now if there are a lot of people on placement will they have CRB’s. Some really sick people could abuse very vulnerable people.
If you don’t pay your workers you are going to get psychos! 🙂

Off-topic but I think relevant for everyone here – the DWP are set to introduce a new jobsearch system via a new site, called “Universal Jobmatch” that will include conditions for mandatory registration for all jobseekers. As you can see this will have enormous implications for jobseekers’ rights to privacy and data protection, giving staff at the DWP unprecedented powers to supervise and direct jobseekers’ activities and jobsearch. This is set to be introduced this autumn, and is part of the government’s introduction of a new mandatory 35 hour per week jobsearch, to be introduced as part of the roll-out of universal credit. PS jobsearch is so dull and the same jobs go round hundreds of times in loops. It can be so boring it brings on my spontaneous falling asleep. If I had to add all the waking hours up when this happens, I’d need to be by a computer 24/7 and never have any normal sleep, to make the target of 35 hours. (on machine at JCP all day today)

This is a perfect example of a humanity favorite when society wants to push the away the right, but maybe harder resolution and choose an easy exit. Why not help them to integrate into the society. Why push them to hide the care houses. Why not help them to feel better in their own houses, instead. Or in the society. Do we have to point our finger on them, so they will be feeling more prosecuted? With slight modifications everything can be made easier. It may not be the easy solution, but we should think about what they need, not what we need.
The T4 Program was responsible for the murder of over 100,000 German citizens…babies, children, adults, and elderly…who had physical and mental disabilities. Developed in 1938 and carried out at six different sites throughout Germany and Austria, the T4 Program provided the Nazis with a heinous and systematic way to eliminate those individuals considered to be life unworthy of life. A variety of killing methods were tried on these victims, including allowing the babies to starve to death in their cribs, poisonous injections, and gassing. This program continued until public outcry caused it to be shut down…just at the start of what would become the Holocaust.
