Support The Students And Help Kick The Cops Off Campus

riot-police-stand-guard-millbankWednesday 11th December, Meet at 2pm at the University of London Union (ULU).

Please share/blog/tweet the facebook call out for the protest.

Shortly after this Government weren’t elected the student inspired storming of the Tory Party HQ at Millbank launched a fierce, if short-lived, campaign against the huge hike in tuition fees.  A series of well-supported and spiky central London protests brought chaos to the capital whilst universities were occupied across the UK.

Recently the student movement burst back into life with occupations in universities across the UK including Edinburgh, Birmingham, Liverpool, Exeter, Brighton and Sheffield.  Many of these occupations have been linked to strikes or struggles by both education staff and low paid, often casualised workers.  The response from university bosses has been injunctions, threats and spurious suspensions.  Last week Senate House, the main building of the University of London, was occupied by students in solidarity with outsourced workers fighting for sick pay and other workplace rights.  Students are also furious about plans to close down the the university’s student union, ULU.

On Wednesday night those occupying the building were subject to an appallingly violent response with hundreds of police storming the campus leading to protesters being “thrown to the ground, kicked and punched, and dragged to the ground by their hair.”  A film has appeared online showing the extent of the attack.  36 people were arrested.

This has only increased the determination of students who have called a day of national and local actions this Wednesday December 11th to show that they will not be intimidated by violent attacks carried out by the police.  As well as fighting for low paid staff at universities, many students have supported protests against workfare and other cuts to social security. Claimants coming out on the streets for students could help kick-start a new fightback against the constant and devastating attacks on the young, the old, the poor and public sector workers everywhere.

So called political leaders of all parties believe the only answer to the crisis created by the rich is for the rest of us to work harder, for longer, for less pay.  Join the students this week and help start a new wave of resistance to every attack and let’s start to build a world worth growing up in.

To join the protest in London meet at ULU, Malet St, WC1E 7HY at 2pm.  Please help spread the word and share the facebook details of the event.  Tweet using hashtag #copsoffcampus.

These occupations are a product of the introduction of tuition fees and the increasingly exploitative employment culture in Higher Education. Many of the teaching staff at the universities are on extremely low wages and part-time contracts. When I was studying for my own Ph.D., my supervisor told me that a doctorate was actually the one qualification that would actually leave you poorer. Tenured teaching jobs at university at now very rare, and many lecturer spend years doing post-docs before they are able to find a permanent, paid post. This depression in the wages and employment conditions of the teaching staff appears to be directly coupled to the expansion of university management. I read a piece in one of the American Libertarian blogs a little while ago that argued that while American tuition fees were now massively inflated, very little of this was actually spent on the professors, who actually stood in front of a whiteboard and taught. Most of the money either went to senior faculty, who seem to do very little for it, or university management. While I don’t agree with the economic and political views of the blog in question, I think their analysis of the current situation in American academia is accurate. And it has been imported into Britain. Back in the 1990s and early part of this century I met lecturers, who, despite their qualifications, were only part-time and on poor wages. It’s all part of the great, new Corporate culture that was introduced by Maggie and the Conservatives back in the 1980s. I’ve also no doubt that with this new wave of student unrest various Right-wing pundits will start shaking their heads and claiming that it all started in the sixties. This is simply not true. Student unrest, exactly like the occupations and protests that are now occurring in Britain’s unis, occurred long before the 1960s as far back as the fourteenth century. Then as now university students had to pay for their education, and they were frequently attracted to particular universities by specific ‘star’ lecturers. However, the European monarchies and the church frequently took these lecturers away to work on official state or ecclesiastical business. The students were instead taught by inferior, temporary teachers. The result was that students went on strike and organised protests in several Spanish and French universities. See the relevant paper in the book ‘Intellectual Culture in the Middle Ages’. Student protests like the present unrest have occurred throughout history. They are not the product of 1960’s radicalism, but a reaction to an exploitative corporate environment that demands high tuition fees while delivering very little, and increasingly treating the real teaching staff extremely poorly.

  7. Using the words,”POOR QUALITY”, is another feeble excuse to try to redefine “COMPLETELY BIASED MEDICAL ASSESSMENT THAT ROBS THE CLAIMANT OF BENEFITS”.

Toying with words is just another cowardly way of the DWP trying to distance from the horrors, and i mean horrors, that were perpetrated against the people less able to fight back.

The ongoing attacks against the most vulnerable are being broadcast across the globe and are attracting the attention of HUMAN RIGHTS commissioners.

Indeed, many people have contacted them after having the benefits afforded to them in respect of their disabilities, stolen…………………

ATOS and the concealment of it’s contract details are proof enough that the whole game of “medical charades”, was designed exclusively to rob, steal and cheat…….

What concerns me at the moment, is the amount of pain, suffering and grief that claimants have had to endure.

You have been subject to DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION, not by a person, but by a government department, the DWP.

These cowards must be brought to trial and found guilty of the crimes they committed.

We must pursue these faceless cowards until we get the satisfaction of justice……………….

No amount of compensation can bring back loved ones who have died as a result of these heinous acts.
This has been acknowledged by virtue of the fact that the DWP continue to try and hide the escalating death toll from public view………….

Mutiny is about to be witnessed across our cities. The sooner, the better i think.

Public outrage is hidden by the puppet media of the government. They saw fit to light the touch paper, just let the fun begin………………..

This may well piss off one or two of my readers (and any plod who read this as well) but sod it, this is about student worker solidarity so up it goes…

  9. While people are being asked to wait over six hours in ambulances, none essential operations cut back to a minimum, people thrown on the streets, jobless working for slave employers and disabled robbed of their benefits, we have the prince of clowns throwing £40.1 million down the proverbial, shitter……

Duncan SMITH is not a comedian, yet his department, the DWP, are employing the biggest fool ever………….

Which other country would allow, this legend in his own lunch time, the space and power to write off this mind blowing amount on the “GRAND UNIVERSAL CREDIT FUCK UP?”

How many people do you have to sanction, displace, or drive to death, while Cameron’s crown jester squanders vast amounts on a pie in the sky scheme?

It’s been proven, time and time again, that a software cannot cope with the multiplexity of social situations that arise from a claim, it is for this reason, that it was always doomed from it’s inception on the back of a fag packet.

This guy could’nt win a one legged arse kicking contest, yet he is free to waste cash of these proportions………….

One things for sure, whatever sum the DWP have admitted to, will be a fraction of the real amount that has been blown.

Telling the truth, and the DWP, don’t exactly go hand in hand, neither does the bottle to admit how many lives have been lost due to ESA and other, dark, draconian, methods of human torture by brown envelope.

………..forty fucking million, and the rest, what a fucking joke!

The travesty of all this is, if you had got £40 they would instigate a major operation to force you to pay it back, sanction you and probably lead you onto the street, homeless………..

…….and yet the “comedy of errors” continues at our expense….

  11. DEAR DWP,
YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO FUCK AROUND WITH THESE POSTINGS, TAKING THEM OUT OF CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER, BUT ONE THINGS FOR SURE, YOU CAN’T HIDE THE EVER INCREASING PILE OF DEAD BODIES MOUNTING UP IN YOUR GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE………..

  12. DEAR DWP

WHAT IS YOUR LATEST BODY COUNT?

YOU KNOW, THE ONE THAT YOU ARE TRYING SO HARD TO STIFLE, THE ONE THAT SHOWS HOW MANY HAVE DIED SINCE YOUR VILIFICATION OF THE POOR AND DISABLED…..

YES, THE FIGURE THAT YOU ARE SO DESPERATE TO HIDE FROM THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION,

THE ONE THAT WILL BLOW THE LID ON YOUR CONCERTED “ETHNIC CLEANSING REGIME” AND EXPOSE YOU FOR WHAT YOU REALLY ARE,

THE MOST FINELY HONED KILLING MACHINE HIDDEN IN WELFARE REFORMS……….

THE STENCH FROM THE CORPSES THAT YOU KILLED, WILL NOT GO AWAY.

MEDIA CLEANSING WILL NOT REMOVE THE STENCH EITHER, TRY AS YOU MAY, YOUR ACTIONS WILL ALWAYS BE HIGHLIGHTED BY THE ONES LEFT TO TELL THE TALE………..

I AM JUST ONE, BUT MY VOICE IS MANY……………..

…………ALL BEARING WITNESS TO YOUR EVIL DEEDS.

  13. ………..extract taken from staff bulletin to DWP internal departments on 7th Nov 2013, as highlighted in Daily Mirror;

evidence to be obtained before a decision can be made on balance of probabilities.
    12. In exceptional circumstances, should all sources of evidence be exhausted and it is still not
possible to reach a decision on balance of probabilities, the designated person may seek
advice from ATOS using the DBD 385 via the medical evidence wizard.
    ………………………………………………………………………………

…………..they are saying, the use of ATOS material in making a decision on a disabled persons claim, must only be used if every other avenue has been thoroughly exhausted…………….

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO ATOS WERE HERALDED BY THE DWP AS THE MOST HIGHLY TRAINED FIRE BREATHING DRAGONS OF THE HEALTHCARE WORLD.

TODAY THEY ARE NOT EVEN ON THE BACK BURNER……

NAMED AND SHAMED AS THE CHARLATANS THAT THEY REALLY ARE,
“THE PRODUCT OF A STATE ENLISTED, DISABILITY DENIAL MACHINE THAT HOLD NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER, A SHAM IN EVERY RESPECT”

…………a ruthless organisation that has brought about deaths in our community, sponsored by the DWP in collusion with another government department, Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service,

“A FINELY HONED, WELFARE AND DISABILITY KILLING MACHINE”
