Yet More Disappearing DWP Documents – Now It’s a Freedom of Information Request

The shameful attempt to cover up Iain Duncan Smith and Chris Grayling’s lies about workfare appears to have led to another document disappearing from the DWP’s website.  This follows the revelation yesterday that the Work Programme Provider guidance on the DWP’s website was altered last Friday to remove references to mandatory work experience.

The latest disappeared document, which was a response to a Freedom of Information request, revealed the names of several private companies who have enjoyed free forced labour under the government’s Work Programme scheme.

The document revealed that claimants have been placed at Poundland, ASDA, Wilkinsons and many other private sector companies. Once again this document proves that Chris Grayling was lying when he said “There is no circumstance in which we would mandate any individual to take part in work activity for a big company, that doesn’t happen.”

The document could previously be found at: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/foi-3238-2011.pdf

You can even view where it used to be on google:

Unfortunately it’s no longer there.  But that’s okay because good old google cache has a copy of this as well.

This FOI request was only published in December 2011.  Less than 3 months later it appears that Freedom of Information has been sacrificed to protect lying government ministers.

Some extracts of the disappeared document are below:

If further proof were needed that this is being done to cover up for Chris Grayling and Iain Duncan Smith’s lies, then this older FOI response (PDF), which is still available on the DWP website, is revealing. This happens to show that work experience placements happen to have only involved working for charities in the Maidenhead area. In this case there is no reference to private companies. It is clear from the document above that this is not the case throughout the country. But since this document supports the minister’s claims it gets to stay, those that prove they are lying bastards are removed.

  1. Why would the DWP embarrass themselves like this?! hehe

  2. oh i got full list Johnny

  3. Not being funny Mr Void, but if this is the thin end of the wedge, at the thick end is the police kicking down your door at 2am on some trumped-up misdemeanour, as a pretext of seizing all your computer equipment and insinuating to the neighbours that you are a paedophile.

I would not underestimate the power of a Government minister telling the police to put a stop to all this commie balderdash. Remember the Beanfield?

  4. Thanks for that is very interesting I have passed it on everywhere I can think of…

  5. Laughed at Tory MPs on twitter yesterday attempting to put forward the party line. This is just incredible and unbelievable. Who knows what else can they be covering up to get their way.

    Good stuff JV.

  8. Scary if oppressive stuff as Poster above. I fear they will do anything to keep rich getting richer, poor poorer, merely by living our lives.(exploited everywhere in every way to our detriment).
It makes me torn between just activism and a wish to just get on with my own life.

  9. does this constitute ‘Offence of altering etc. records with intent to prevent disclosure’ under the Acts? Maybe the next step would be to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office?

  10. Act, singular, sorry.

  11. I have another example of a “disappearing DWP document”.

It isn’t specific to the Work Programme debacle, but i can feel a theme coming on…..

  12. Hiya, I wondered how long it would take them to start rewriting history.

Used to be decades now it’s weeks. Won’t be long before they are burning books…. closely followed by people. Very few historians in the government so probably think that they they have invented the concept.

Well done keep it up if they don’t get you soon.

  15. I hope someone has sent all of these alterations to the offical documents by the DWP to all the T.V news programmes such as the BBC – Sky – ITV- Channel 4 news (Jon Snow – one of the best) – Daily Politics – Newsnight (Jeremy Paxman – another guy who’s not scared asking the akward questions).

This needs to be on all the news programmes first thing monday morning.

  16. As there’s a case going to court about the legality of workfare couldn’t these altered and missing documents be construed as ‘perverting the course of justice’? Maybe Caitlin Reilly’s solicitor would be interested in hearing about this? 🙂

  17. Illegal wars, implementing policy before it’s on the statute books or even debated?,rendering UK citizens to The Amerikan Gulag on trumped up charges, endlessly repeating big lies to the public, smashing dissent, flogging off The NHS to enrich themselves & their cronies,re-introducing slavery, aligning themselves with the far right in the European parliament,a supine & ineffective parliamentary opposition……the list is endless.
This shower of shit will stop at NOTHING to get their way.
Make no mistake : they hate US even more than we hate them.
Why? Because they ARE embryonic Nazis. They really are.

  18. My Correspondence with Chris Grayling
    http://alextalbot.blogspot.com/2012/02/correspondence-with-chris-grayling-mp.html

‘This sounds like coercion, looks like coercion, smells uncannily like coercion; I think we are looking at coercion here. But hey don’t just take my word for it listen to the voices of Sainsbury’s, Poundland, Waterstones, even Tesco are calling a spade a spade, why is it so difficult for you?’

I actually thought at the time, I should screenclip it before it disappears.

This has happened a few times now, and not just in relation to workfare.

  27. [Once again this document proves that Chris Grayling was lying when he said “There is no circumstance in which we would mandate any individual to take part in work activity for a big company, that doesn’t happen.”]

You have to read this like a lawyer though. Take a look at Chapter 3 – Mandation, Action Planning and Participant Contact. . In section 4 it says

“4. You have discretion as to whether you mandate participants. However
should you elect to mandate, you are responsible for:… ”

So of course the government is not doing the mandating, it the provider! (It’s called ‘sophistry’). What’s more the government has turned them into a quasi-judicial authority, It’s completely arbitrary whether they mandate someone or not – there doesn’t seem to be any guide lines or lawful authority and as I pointed out in the case of CAP:

There is a word for mandatory unpaid work in the community, it is called a ‘community sentence’ and it is issued by the courts after due legal process. It is not issued by the DWP nor by their Work Programme providers. When did they acquire these powers to impose a judicial penalty? A sentence more severe than any court could impose, (courts are limited to a maximum of 300 hours community service, this is 780 hours). When did unemployment become illegal in this country?
