May Day Round Up – 2008

April 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Once we looked like this

Still, thing’s are shaping up for a full week over May Day starting with the usual trot through town to Trafalgar Square with the TUC. The London Anarchist movement will join the weird bunch of stalinists, liberals and confused tourists and are meeting at Clerkenwell Green at 12 noon.

Then at 1pm those artschool anarchists the Spacehijackers have invited the Met to re-enact their historical role in ‘clamping down on civil liberties and the freedom of the people’. The location will be revealed on their website on the day: http://www.spacehijackers.org/

It’s May 2nd though when the real fun starts with a gathering of anarchists outside City Hall at the announcement of the mayoral election result. The assembled hordes will be demanding ‘Neither Crook, Toff, Copper or Fascist’. Meet at 6pm outside City Hall, more details here.

If you really wanna get away from things a trip up to the Highlands is probably more your bag. Faslane Peace Camp will be hosting a Punkx Piknik featuring sounds from Headjam and the Inner Terrestrials plus many more.

And finally a bunch of yoghurt weavers and toffs are attempting to hijack May Day to waffle on about global warming – it’s workers’s day kids, not a good move.

The fun doesn’t stop there however. For thse who can’t wait there will be an anarchist presence at this Sunday’s Rock Against Racism nostalgia fest and two London Social Centres are holding benefit events this weekend. Head to RampArts or the newly opened Social Centre in Shoreditch, both tonight (Friday).
